Post wacky and wild setups?

The sliding rail has measurements on it that I used to take 6 consecutive shots that should all line up nicely when printed. I have the camera tipped 90 because the film back only likes going on one way. Found some cool flowing textures as a test shot for my idea.

Do not worry I used a lens hood to block the sun from the lens.

And a shitty still life of my coffee stand. I wanted to test it in a few different lighting conditions. It does a pretty good job close up. And confirms that my 3D printed focusing screen is designed correctly, I was worried that the ground glass might be off from the film plane by enough to throw off the focus.

Do you shoot with more than one camera at a time? and if so do you load up different films or use different focal lengths or what? I have a 645 slr, bought a 35mm p&s for a concert because lol like $30 and just bought a rebel 2000 cause it was like $60 and I had an EF lens from a canon aps-c camera from college I wasn't using.

I usually go out with a 35mm in my everyday life and one or two extra lenses, sometimes 2 cameras having color film in one and BW in the other
and when I go out for leisure or for taking pictures I bring the RB with three backs and a 35mm and a couple lenses
and for large format it's only the LF camera because it's heavy and clunky as fuck

my 645 is a pentax645 so its literally an entry level 645 camera intended for entry level wedding photographers. it doesn't even have half stop exposure comp for slide film, just full stop exposure comp, full stop shutter and half stop aperture. I'm pretty sure the MO was someone would be using their 35mm for most of the wedding and only use the 645 for moneyshots that needed to get blown up. hence not needing to change backs mid roll because especially if you had a 2 person crew one could shoot the money shots while the other set up the backup back (or I guess you start with the backs preloaded and then just switch them out yourself)

if that's their target public it makes sense not having this feature
if that's something that bothers you or makes you wish you had a second camera with you, maybe it's worth it to get one with interchangeable backs instead of bringing 2 cameras
especially when we're talking about medium format
the RB is way bigger and heavier, but it can shoot both 6x4.5 and 6x7 too
if it's just a minor inconvenience just stick to the Pentax 645 and bring a backup 35mm for color film, for example

my edc is usually only one camera but if i'm going out to shoot, i'll almost always have multiple cameras. usually one digital, one film. on my last shoot i brought a 645, a 6x6, and a digital compact to use as a light meter. i have two bessas Rs now as well so i will likely end up dual wielding those sometime

my EDC is a Nikon FM2 with a 50mm and a 105mm
sometimes a 24mm in place of the 50mm or I just bring them both with the 105mm
in leisure days i bring my RB67 with the 3 backs (two 6x7, usually one with BW and the other one with color or slide, and one 6x4.5 that i always end up using less frequently)
sometimes I bring the Nikon as well, or I just bring a Rollei 35 since it's small and quicker to use so I don't miss shots that I would with medium format
and then when i go out to shoot large format I only bring the LF because the bag with the camera, the monorail, the lens, the viewing glass, the 5 filmholders, the loupe, the cloth, the lightmeter, the cable and the whole tripod with the head weights 26,5 pounds
last time I brought the Rollei 35 along because the lens is 40mm, which is similar to the 180mm I have, so it helped me compose the shot before assembling the whole camera
the other day I wanted to take a photo of a building, assembled the whole camera and saw that the shot would be shit
I couldn't get further away from that angle, couldn't recompose it better with that lens, so i just lost like 15min getting it all up and then putting it back in the bag without even taking the shot
would have been easier to just grab the Rollei, point where I wanted to shoot and see that it would be shit right away
would love to have one of those director's viewfinders but there's no way I'm paying >$200 up to ~$750 for one of those

I have an app on my phone called Magic Universal Viewfinder which is great for previewing LF shots before setting up the camera and tripod. Lately though I've been using my Crown Graphic a lot more for location work, and that has a built in viewfinder that I can look through with the camera closed up. It also is a lot more compact than my monorail and can be mounted on a Bogen 3001 instead of the giant 20 lbs mega-Bogen I was using with the monorail. I do miss the movement flexibility of the monorail sometimes though.

No unfortunately they don't make anything like that anymore. Fotospeed used to make some fantastic specialty papers like their Old Masters which is even more textured than this Rembrandt paper. Wish they still made cool papers like this still but as the market shrunk we lost a lot of really cool shit.

might try that next time I go to my local darkroom
went there about 5 days ago and made a couple 35mm enlargements and some 4x5 contact prints
but to be fair I wasn't quite content with the 4x5s, it seems like the ones I've been printing in my bathroom tend to come out better
contrast is sometimes hard to deal with at my make-do bathroom pop-up lab
I made a few contacts today and left them to dry tonight, will post results tomorrow

btw, warmer lightsources make images more contrasty when printing?

Magenta is what most papers use for higher contrast.

When I'm doing split grade I'll start at a 0 filter and do a test strip, pick a time I like for the highlights and mid tones and then I'll do a second test strip where I expose the paper for my 0 contrast time then do a contrast 4 test strip over that.

It's a good way to get a baseline for fine tuning.

Oh yeah, something to keep in mind is that higher contrast filters result in less exposure, so if you did 3 second test segments at c0 you may want to do 5 or 6 second segments at c4.

when I went to the lab earlier this week I used a #2 filter, but didn't think of alternating between filters on and off
Yesterday I made some more contact prints at the bathroom and I feel like there's a great loss of image quality
of course there's gonna be some unless the paper has finer grain than the negative itself, but I wanted to know if this looks acceptable or if I should use better paper for this purpose (it's fine for enlarging, though)
