Forgive me if this has been discussed before - I'm new here - but I find myself pondering: why does Ukraine not renounce its claims to Crimea and the eastern territories? Would this not bring an immediate resolution to the conflict?

These regions have repeatedly voiced their desire to join Russia. Why, then, does Ukraine persist in its efforts to retain them? What does it hope to achieve by clinging to territories that appear determined to part ways?

Russia gov still owns tons of USD, euros, gold... they can use these to buy up rubles from the market, improving it's value. Of course that would mean Putin and his palls giving useful currency they could steal to the Russian people and businesses.
Maybe they will lease more land to China. They already leased a huge country sized forest and water basin. But yuan also isn't great as a currency, who accepts it other than China?

China is taking advantage of Russia, bit by bit.

Moscow, weakened by sanctions, turned to Beijing for help – but this help comes with strings attached. The relationship between the two countries is a “friendship” on paper, but in reality, it is a way for China to get access to cheap raw materials, and export its surplus machinery and consumer goods back into Russia, turning a very good profit, and creating a dependence on its manufacturing capacity and economic power.

Russian oil and gas are the most obvious and common examples of this quasi-colonial relationship, but as sanctions tighten and the Kremlin’s coffers empty, China is expanding to other resources as well.

▪China has become a “hub” for Russian gold. Russia, the second largest gold producer in the world, has resorted to using its sizeable gold reserves to avoid sanctions by offering gold as barter for goods they need. China might also be refining Russian gold, to “launder” it past sanctions.

▪Exports of Russian diamonds to China via Hong Kong have increased 18x year-on-year in 2024. While partly this is done, once again, to avoid sanctions, there are signs that China might be processing and selling them back to Russia – about $12 million worth of diamonds were exported to Russia in August 2024 alone. The largest diamond transaction from China to Russia before this was only worth $200 000.

Beijing is exploiting Russia very smartly, as Moscow struggles to support its war effort.

"The reality is this: Ukraine is fighting for us. It’s not just fighting for itself. The reason so many countries are involved in Ukraine’s defense is because the aggression being committed by Russia is not only an aggression against Ukraine and its people; it’s an aggression against the very principles that are at the heart of the international system and that are necessary for trying to maintain peace and stability," Antony Blinken said during a press availability in Italy following the meeting of G7 member countries.

Here's how currency exchange works in Russia. The state owns dozens of export companies which can be used to regulate the exchange rate of the ruble by selling their foreign exchange income on the internal market. The exact formula is complicated, but its comparable parameter is them selling 80% of the revenues at the beginning of the war VS 25% at the moment. This means there's ample space for economic maneuvers.

The reasons for the ruble becoming weaker are: new sanctions on the bank used for gas trade, geopolitical escalation and relatively cheap oil. The gas trade payments will likely be rerouted in some form and while this happens the government is free to use the tool described above if they deem it necessary.

>russian economy is in a bad shape almost anywhere you look
That's a given. One of big fuck ups currently is the housing market. The big development companies are going down the tubes since sales collapsed, and they don't have a good way out: if you drop prices, then you'll see with losses, but if you keep the pricing as is you'll get no sales. And if those companies go down the tubes, then banks can follow since from around covid shitfest the housing development market was the life support of the banking sector.

Russians will be able to join the Taliban, if it is removed from the list of terrorist organizations, according to Russian MP Ernest Valeyev. He was part of a group of MPs that submitted a draft law to exclude organizations that have “stopped the propaganda, justification and support of terrorism” from the list.

And it's almost certain that Taliban will be acknowledged in Russia as a respectable organization.

Will they recruit people from Afghanistan to join the Russian army, as well?

Sanctions or battlefield disasters never hurt the rubble before because Elvira keeps it artificially inflated. Russia could get nuked out of existance but as long as they have oil/gold/dollars to sell for rubles their currency would stay stable. That's literally all.

Cuz if you have rubles right now, you are DESPERATE to get rid of them any way you can. And that gives you a CHEAP Ruble.

Another example, Yugoslavia basically existed entirely due to IMF loans, never at any point having an economy or budget plan whatsoever. Still didn't collapse due to currency inflation, it collapsed due to nationalism breaking it apart.
The most obvious nationalist movements in Russia are Chechens, who are pro-Putin. Nobody else is organized or numerous enough. Tatars are too close to Moscow itself, and aren't at arms. Russia won't fall apart, the people will just be more misrable and more of them will leave. Its a very slow fall, USSR took 20 years of this to fall.

War economy means the people who'd normally be producing rap music, video games and pornography, are instead forced to produce artillery shells. Russia isn't doing that yet. The government isn't telling housewives to surrender their cooking pans to make more planes from the aluminum. There's no total war in Russia.

If there was, it would fall. If Putin calls for the nihilistic uninterested russian people to actually sacrifice for HIS war, to make HIS war into their war, suddenly some may start to care, and might actually kick him out.

tl;dr there's no war economy in Russia, and there can't be; Putin lacks the legitimacy to ask for it. All he can do is hire more soldiers on the free market, for increasing amounts of money.

Many people wrongly call Russian Aleksandr Dugin a philosopher and thinker, but in fact he is not a serious intellectual and scientist, as evidenced by the sheer number of his books, interviews and other activities. This mass production points to him as the main Russian propaganda machine aimed primarily at intellectuals, or rather people who wish to appear intellectuals.

Moreover, the thoughts he presents are conjectural, full of contradictions, often anti-scientific, devoid of logic and sense.

Thanks to large amounts of money, persistence, and talent as a propagandist, Dugin is popular among certain circles.

Recently, Dugin gave an interview to Arab magazine Al Majalla. As always, Dugin’s rhetoric is revealing of Russia’s policy line and philosophy – but also full of contradictions. I've highlighted some of them for you, along with explanations of what's really going on.

▪ "Biden has already escalated by giving Ukraine the green light to attack Russia directly. It is more than an escalation; it is aggression."
The only aggressor in this war is Russia.

Ukraine and the United States, acting in self-defense, cannot escalate this war, or suddenly become an aggressor.

▪ "If we are talking about conventional weapons, Russia will undoubtedly win on the battlefield."
Russia planned to end the war in 2-3 weeks. But the war has been going on for almost three years, Russia is forced throw people into meat assaults to advance at a slow pace. Also Russia asks for arms supplies from North Korea, Iran and China, unable to cope on it's own.

>Many people wrongly call Russian Aleksandr Dugin a philosopher and thinker

▪ "One more Ukrainian long-range missile strike on Russia backed by a European power could provoke nuclear strikes against NATO."
There have been multiple confirmed long-range missile strikes by Ukraine in the past few days already, including using missiles supplied by UK and France. No nuclear strikes – against Ukraine or against a NATO member – have been forthcoming. This is a clear example of Russian nuclear saber-rattling.

▪ "We cannot control Trump's reaction, but the truth is that his country was the one to declare war on us. […] If we don't show strength, we will find ourselves in a position like the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank or Hezbollah in Lebanon. They will simply destroy and erase us."
Classic Russian tactic: shifting the blame. Russia is the one who has tried to wipe Ukraine and Ukrainians from the face of the earth. It did so without provocation or reason. By suggesting that the US, or the “collective West” is somehow responsible for the war, and even ascribing them the goal of “erasing” Russia, Dugin only reveals the real intentions of Putin in this invasion.

▪ "We might have lost the West, but we are now discovering the Global South […] For the first time in Russian history, the Islamic world has become something of real importance."
Dugin is playing to his audience. Speaking to an Arab magazine, he emphasizes the “Islamic” world, and compares Russia to Palestine. This is calculated.

▪ "Sanctions were a blessing in disguise in that they reduced Russia’s dependence on the West, boosted its domestic production and developed its industrial sector."
In fact, Russia remains dependent on Western products in much of its manufacturing, and has to try and smuggle weapon parts, microchips, and airplane components to keep its industry and military running.

"It is with pleasure that I have accepted the official invitation of the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin's invitation" - Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on his Facebook page that he would attend the May 9 parade in Moscow.

He may become the first official representative of Slovakia to pay an official visit to Moscow after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Is Mr. Fico aware that Russian soldiers who came from the war with Ukraine and who killed Ukrainians took part in the parade on Red Square last year? Does Mr. Fico plan to applaud these war criminals?

The Bank of the Russia canceled the purchase of foreign currency until the end of 2024. Against the background of this news, the dollar is falling by 1.5 rubles.

The official rate of the Central Bank of Russia for tomorrow: 108 rubles for the dollar and 113 rubles - for the euro.

The decision was made in order to reduce the volatility of financial markets, the regulator said in a statement:

“At the same time, the Bank of Russia will continue, in accordance with the previously announced procedure, to carry out operations on the domestic foreign exchange market to sell foreign currency related to the replenishment and use of the National Welfare Fund, including taking into account all operations carried out with the fund's resources in 2023, in the amount of 8.40 billion rubles per day.

The decision on resumption by the Bank of Russia of operations in the domestic foreign exchange market within the framework of mirroring regular operations of the Ministry of Finance of Russia related to the implementation of the budget rule will be made taking into account the emerging situation in the financial markets. The deferred purchases will be carried out during 2025”, - the Central Bank said in the message.

I decidd to actually calculate that shit. I will use the brand I am using by myself, Regina chamomile toilet paper, which is on of the better ons on Polish market. Also because I can buy perfumed toilet paper and don't have to lose my sleep over not being able to afford food because of that expense, lol.
I buy 16 rolls pack, each roll is 150 sheets, which gives us 2400 pieces of paper. Package, that I mentioned before, costs something around 21 PLN, with the current course it's something like 581 rubles. That mean every four pieces are worth a little bit below one ruble.
When I take a shit, I usually use four leaves of toilet paper for first wipe, which basically means I can wipe my ass for a ruble.

God, I love the West.

Quite the opposite comrade, I'll gladly tell you:
> what exactly makes the way I construct sentences artificial
is that you correctly guessed the phrase "a meno che tu non abbia": that's a relatively hard phrase in italian, which in itself is a relatively hard language. 100% of the foreigners I know would make a mistake there, and they live in Italy. So you either are a language genius, and to be quite honest you don't strike me as one comrade, or you probably wouldn't be unemployed and living on gibs, or, more probably, you used a translator tool.

You are thinking with western perspective, you have to think at this from pidor perspective, theyll confiscate babushkas pensions but not to help the war, by that point its over and the oligarchs will want to extract the maximum amount of money before ditching the country and escaping to China, middle east or a south american tax paradise.
It will happen but not to help the war.

The most fucked up thing about Dugin - he was an open homosexual-esoteric-SS fan back in 1980s, people know about it but for some reasons they don't give a damn anymore about it.
Imagine dude who was fucked by half of Moscow in the ass telling you about christianity and moral 40 years later.

https://www.sovsekretno.ru/articles/tri-bogatyrya-v-forme-waffen-ss/

>In "Memory" of the late 1980s and early 1990s. flashed another, now very famous, character - Alexander Gelievich Dugin. However, I first saw him much earlier - around 1984, in a suspicious bohemian-dissident apartment. He spoke about initiation and esotericism, looking with loving eyes at my brutal comrade. I also remember his then wife Debryanskaya, who is now an “arch-lesbian” of the Russian Federation and almost the head of the Transgender Libertarian Party. Later I saw their joint son, whom he called Arthur, and she, it seems, Vasya, and the child twitched in different directions, not knowing how to react. However, why be surprised at the current pseudo-musician Artur Dugin, he is an ordinary drug addict and homosexual, quite popular in the gay community, a bohemian scum. A worthy fruit of two degenerates. But this is so, nonsense. In the late 1980s. Alexander Dugin appeared, accompanied by Dzhemal, at the Zelinskys' apartment and behaved badly: drunk or smelly freaks felt each other's causal places and proclaimed the need for "solar initiation." What this means, I was already aware - blowjob. Here is such an "esoteric alchemy"!

>No one hid then that Evgeny Golovin “dedicated” them all. Good "new universities"! It is clear what they taught there! But before the "Memory" Dugin was trained to be a "democrat", but things did not go well, because other Komsomol goats were enough. "Right" were required; and, indeed, Dugin's "conspiracy" articles in The Day were a clear alternative to Jewish patriotism.

What about this is economic literacy? Russia's economy currently only runs on its war economy and little exports of natural resources. Their currency will continue to drop, unless niabulina increases the key interest rate. However there is pressure by businessmen to not increase the key interest rate, because it makes investments impossible. The economy was prepared for a swift victory, not for a longterm war.

This was easy to see coming. China is DEVOURING Russia. There were even regional map changes coming from China where the international borders were quietly moved into Russian territory and Moscow was silent.

Putin is truly selling the future of not just Russia, but the entire Russian Federation, to China. Including things that Moscow doesn’t even own.
