If you live along the Interstate 40 corridor between Oklahoma City OK and Wilmington NC plan on being without power for 1 week. Ice accumulation on trees and powerlines combined with sustained winds over 20 mph will cause wide spread power outages, Many roads will be impassable due to ice and falling trees also. Power line crews will be stretched thin over a large area. You will need water to drink, cook and clean. If your home loses water supply you can pour a gallon of water into the tank of your toilet to flush it. You do not have enough water staged in your home. The temperatures for much of the impacted area will be below freezing for the week following the ice storm. You will need a heat source that does not depend on electricity. Build a blanket fort in one of the bedrooms of your home. Do not try to heat your entire house or apartment but you need a safe heat source for your family. Make sure you have plenty of food that does not require cooking besides the heat provided by your heat source.
