Apparently, according to the We Work Stiff podcast you faggots are always drooling over, the Nakamura/Tanahashi conversation where they both "wanted the match" was had under the impression that Nakamura was going to be a free agent at the time, hence why WWE was never informed.

Looks like you solely have Bushiroad and the NJPW booking to blame for this one, autismos. They wanted Tanahashi vs. Okada for the retirement.

>>
>>19279780
I listened to WWS and the way you framed it was disingenuous.

Because this had been in the works since January; the belief by New Japan and AEW was that Nakamura was going to be a free agent at the time of the match. But as time went on it seemed that Nakamura was not in fact out of his contract. Once word reached Khan that one, they were still exploring the match and two, Nakamura was still under WWE contract he vetoed the match. It was around 1 hour 15ish minutes into the show if you are so inclined to check. They said they were verbatim given the phrase by 6 sources: "TK went ballistic." Upon hearing this was potentially going to happen even though he was still contracted. So it was partially Nakamura's fault, but also TK had a melty.

They're right on how just common fucking sense dictates NJPW was in the works with Nakamura who was playing along until something fell through conspicuously includes an irate Tony Khan. There is no G1 Tag League in Ba Sing Se
>>
>>19282091
Rebranding G1TL was the most unnecessary thing Bushiroad did outside of the title unification. Now you have a tag tournament with no prestige cuz it went to perennial midcarders and filler teams like fucking FinJuice instead of actual top names
>>
>>19282599
and the tag division has no care or prestige so it's fitting (even if I like KOB)
>>
>>19282620
I think it would be cool if one of the defining characteristics of this era was a tag division that was not trash. And this tournament at least looks interesting on paper. Plus we have an exciting ace KoB, so the stage is set really. All it needs is a modicum of care and attention to booking.

The tickets for WK20 are pretty expensive and it's sold out. I think it kills the "le hecking weak yen" narrative for good. So let me get this straight.
-Tanahashi and Nakamura want to have a match, this is the most obvious fact as both of them share a lot of history. Tanahashi said to Tokyo Sports they talked about it.
-They did some teasing
-Something goes wrong
-suddenly Gedo teases Okada (because suddenly him and Okada are friends again apparently)
-It's Okada
-Meanwhile Naito said he cancelled some bookings around WK because he was approached about potentially being Tanahashi's opponent, certainly as a second choice, and now that he has not been chosen he said he has no other reason to come back.
-We are supposed to believe Nakamura vs Tanahashi was never even considered in the first place.

Now here is my question: why would they keep Naito as a plan B if Okada was always supposed to be plan A ? Okada is an AEW wrestler, their partner obviously knows WK is always on the same date and it will be on a sunday which means not during any potential AEW show either.

They have been sending a few of their wrestlers at WK before, it's nothing new and surely Tony Khan wouldn't have any objection to that because his wrestler is in the main event and winning anyway. So why were they still considering Naito as an option so close to WK if AEW was always going to send Okada ?

https://streamable.com/5ccvu
>>
>>19286586
what the hell did he say?
>>
>>19286515
Tanahashi and Nakamura's feud is not anywhere near as hot or pivotal for the company as Tanahashi's feud with Okada first of all. If you can't admit that you're just fucking lying.

Also, Tanahashi specifically said the match with Nakamura was considered but according to reports, it was with the understanding that Nakamura would be a free agent at the time which is why WWE was not informed. The fact that Nakamura would be working as a free agent would mean that Tony Khan has no right to complain thus his vetoing the match is also total fiction.

Fact is if you want to blame anyone, you can only blame the NJPW office.
But you're blaming them for selling out the Tokyo Dome so their choice of Okada was very clearly a massive success and you just end up looking like a retard
>>
>>19286586
based classic yoshi-hashi promo
>>
>>19286515
Naito was more like a Plan C in case Okada wouldn't or couldn't for some reason. I kind of doubt Tanahashi would've prioritized giving Naito that match over Okada, especially since Naito got the honor to be part of Muto's retirement.
>>
>>19286652
What are you talking about ? I never blamed them for selling out the Tokyo Dome in my post, you're the idiot here. I also never said that Nakamura was a bigger feud for Tanahashi but they are both very close and have a lot of history so it would make sense for Tanahashi to want to have a last match with him.
The problem with your reasoning is that you take reports into account while I only take what the wrestlers have directly said and what actually happened booking-wise. The part about New Japan expecting Nakamura to be a free agent is pure speculation from sites that may or may not have real sources so it could be completely wrong for all we know.
>>
>>19286692
>this sourced report is clearly unreliable
>but yes, I will believe Tony Khan veto'd the match which has not been reported by anyone at all... for, uh, reasons...
>and i will deliberately ignore reports to the contrary
Very interesting indeed

Anyway, people remember the Rainmaker Shock, they don't remember shit about Nakamura and Tanahashi's feuds because they are comparatively irrelevant. Okada is the best match to make and it sold out the Dome. There is nothing to cry about by your spilled milk autism.
>>
>>19286715
Why are you trusting reports is my point. "Sourced" ? Yeah okay, how can we know ? Which sources ? Are you really that gullible ? Sources told me you're a flaming homosexual, trust me bro.
You're a complete mark for buying into that so easily instead of actually thinking for yourself based on what the wrestlers themselves said which is the only facts we have. I am not saying we can be sure that TK or someone else had an involvement in this, but if you're not a complete idiot and just look at how things played out, it is a bit weird and suddenly a lot of faggot reporters want to gaslight fans into thinking the Nakamura match was never even discussed. Yeah sure Tanahashi had singles matches with a fuckton people irrelevant to his career, he had matches with Yuto-Ice and Danshoku Dino but he would never even consider wrestling his old friend one last time, makes sense !
>>
>>19286715
>willfully ignores the part of the reporting that stated: New Japan wanted to continue negotiations regardless of Nakamura being a part of WWE and Tony Khan was upset at that fact.

Why else would Tanahashi explicitly state publicly that they could not make the match work because of New Japan and AEW's relationship.
>>
>>19286809
He didn't say that, please post the quote. All he said was that he had discussed the match with Nakamura and that they would like to have a match before he retires. He didn't even necessarily imply the Dome show, might've been talking about New Years

Because I'm not a casual NJPW fan like you and I know that NOAH and NJPW typically do a crossover show around New Years that is NOT the Tokyo Dome show so like everyone else who actually watches NJPW I thought the Nakamura match might take place there
>>
>>19286652
>Tanahashi and Nakamura's feud is not anywhere near as hot or pivotal for the company as Tanahashi's feud with Okada first of all.
There is no Okada without it you dumbass. There's a reason everyone's first choice was Nakamura after a decade apart, then a guy who left New Japan just months ago, and not a send-off match that already happened 2 years ago.
>>
>>19287192
Nakamura was a midcarder when he left NJPW who had lost all heat, who tried in the ring maybe once every three years. And since leaving, he has apparently not had a single good match. Wanting Nakamura is insane period because he can't go anymore.

Anyway, what's your point? Should they shovel out Inoki's corpse to the ring because Tanahashi vs. Okada couldn't have happened if he didn't exist?
You book the best match for the show and they did. And it sold out as a result.

>>
>>19287864
It's a celebration of the retiree's legacy more than literally anything else. That's why they wanted his original decade-long rival over the other 2 great rivals.
>>
>>19287874
>That's why they wanted
Who is this they? The people that bought tickets to the match and sold out the Dome don't count, I guess.

Also his best long-term rival is Shibata, not nakamura. Shibata has a better rivalry with both of them than they have with each other.
Actually, no, that's not even true. If you want to talk about the most big matches against each other, Tanahashi's "biggest rival" would probably be Nagata but that is clearly not the match anyone wants.
>>
>>19287886
>The people that bought tickets to the match and sold out the Dome don't count, I guess.
You're genuinely retarded if you think ticket sales would've been any different if it was Nakamura or even Naito instead of Okada.

I'm looking forward to the development of a lot of the young guys.

Very interested in Knockout Brothers, particularly my man ICE who I hope starts chasing the NEVER belt next year and doing more singles competition.
I'm curious about what will happen with Tsuji whether he wins or loses. The better story for him is to lose I think but that may not be the best for the promotion overall.
Uemura should get the giga push next year. If he doesn't, I'll start to be annoyed. He's ready. He deserves a run.
I also really like a lot of the Young Lions, particularly based Murashima. I am very interested in his future. The way he's been able to get the crowd behind him as a Young Lion is unreal and I really like his style in the ring.
I could honestly keep going and going about all the shit I'm excited about for 2026 in NJPW.

Maybe I'm just older and more patient than you guys but I really like watching the long term arcs.
>>
>>19288038
Thanks a bunch. Also interested in the great legacy content on world as well
>>
>>19288095
Ice really needs more experience in singles. I am curious as to how good of a wrestling mind he has for singles matches because the way both the Tanahashi match and Uemura match were structured was brilliant, but those are also two of the smartest guys in the biz. He actual work itself however, leaves room for improvement. His tag stuff is already great however. And critically he has charisma leaps and bounds above his senors.
>>
>>19288095
Half the fun of puro regardless of promotion is seeing how the young guys develop.
>>
>>19288176
You wouldn't know it by listening to people talk in here. I can only assume they're a bunch of casual fans that aren't around for the long haul.
>>
I think we are guaranteed an interesting New Japan Cup. Uemura should win, but it is not a certainty. Finlay will also be in the mix, but I think it depends on who the champion is. If Takeshita is still champion I'd imagine having Uemura fail would be "good" for building the story of him being the unstoppable outsider. Which would hopefully tee up a Tsuji G1 win or having him face Takeshita at Dominion. If Tsuji is the champ we could instead have Finlay win the cup and have Uemura build into a G1 victory for a dome face off.

Japanese fans only care about bangers, that's why Muto's retirement couldn't sell out the dome
>>
>>19288688
This is why Takeshita winning wouldn't be a good idea (beyond the signalling just how cucked NJPW is). Tsuji as champ has built in feuds with all the younger generation (and some of the old guard) and could realistically lose to any of them. While Takeshita would just be beating everyone until he loses to Tsuji (the gedo classic)

As tired as banging this drum may be the AEW stuff is really sucking the wind out of things. It completely fucked last year until the G1 and now we are knee deep in it with Okada and Takeshita. I'm also big on Uemura and really not much for Tsuji as the top guy so I'm even more hesitant about the upper card.

>It was revealed through interviews by the 17th that UNPASO Inc. (hereafter UNPASO), a company headed by former New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Tetsuya Naito (43) of “Los Tranquilos de Japon (LTJ)” fame, is facing bankruptcy. Citing the discovery of “inappropriate conduct” by an individual to whom business operations were outsourced, Naito is expected to restart with BUSHI and other staff at a new company.

>The two suddenly canceled their scheduled appearance at Germany's wXw event on the 15th local time. LTJ's official X (formerly Twitter) account apologized, stating: “We have decided to cancel our appearance due to truly regrettable circumstances. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to all parties involved.”What exactly happened? According to information gathered from those involved, it was discovered that there were significant errors in the visa-related information provided by Mr. X, who was effectively handling management through a business contract with Unpaso Inc., a company established by Naito in March. As a result of prioritizing the wrestlers' safety above all else, they had no choice but to abandon the Germany tour.Multiple instances of Mr. X's inappropriate conduct were confirmed, leading Naito and BUSHI to conclude it was impossible to continue operating as freelancers under the current structure. Unpaso Inc., in which Mr. X was deeply involved during its establishment, will close by the end of this month as a form of liquidation.

translated so take it with a grain.

>[DRAGONGATE] Shun Skywalker, after first refusing to appear, suddenly reverses course!
>On 11/19, he warns EVIL of a “counter-purge.”

>Dragongate’s “Skywalking One,” Shun Skywalker, has announced that he intends to deliver a “purge in return” against New Japan Pro Wrestling’s EVIL.

>Shun will face EVIL one-on-one at NJPW’s House of Torture special event “Night of Purging ~ PURGE NIGHT OF TORTURE” (19th, Korakuen Hall). Chosen directly by the commander EVIL as a purge target, Shun revealed in an interview, muttering: “The moment I heard he picked me, I shook so hard I thought my legs were cramping.”

>However, Shun insists the shaking wasn’t because he was scared of EVIL.
>“If you’re doing pro wrestling, Shun Skywalker is a lump on your eyelid—no, a ‘Heavenly Calamity Star.’ Challenging someone like that carries considerable risk. Is it supreme confidence on his part, or overconfidence…? Even with that much courage on display, I just flinched a little,” he explained. And when asked again if he was truly not afraid, he added: “I spent more time not being scared.”

>Whatever the reason, Shun began losing sleep night after night, and at first had decided not to participate in the event. But when he realized that EVIL—who declared Shun’s purge on his own, despite Shun calling himself “Heaven”—had crossed a line into disrespect, he chose to enter after all. Then he went even further, saying: “Isn’t it actually Shun Skywalker who should be purging EVIL instead?” and astonishingly announced a “counter-purge.”

>“In the biggest match of this event, purging someone who committed disrespect toward a being of the heavens is the best course of action for social order as well, and in doing so, the original purpose behind ‘Night of Purging’ will finally be fulfilled.”

>Whose “purge power” will prevail on the day of battle…?

>[Hiroshi Tanahashi Series #13] The "New Fighting Spirit Three Musketeers" were formed, but Katsuyori Shibata opposed it. Shinsuke Nakamura...
https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/367167

>At the Korakuen Hall event on October 1, 2004, I formed the first and last trio of the New Fighting Spirit Three Musketeers with Shibata (Katsuyori) and Nakamura (Shinsuke). Our opponents were Nagata (Yuji), Tenzan (Hiroyoshi), and Nakanishi (Manabu), but at the time Shibata was just rebellious. He would kick me out, and Nakamura was like, "I can't take this anymore." I was the only one who would calm them down by saying, "Calm down," and I ended up becoming "Hiro Tanahashi," like Hiro Saito of the Wolf Pack (laughs).

>We didn't function as a team at all, but now I think that the three of us lined up together made a beautiful picture. To me, the New Fighting Spirit Three Musketeers are like the "foreshadowing" in novels. Because of this, future matches will be more interesting.

>Eight days later, on October 9th at the Ryogoku tournament, I teamed up with Nakamura for the first time to face Muto (Keiji) and Nishimura (Osamu). Even if I say so myself, I think I've been messing around in a lot of different directions. When you draw a character relationship diagram, the main character is at the center of all the arrows. If there were any wrestlers in the current generation who could keep that in mind, I think their comments would be incredibly interesting. It would be good if they could send arrows flying instead of just saying "I'll win" or "I'll do my best."
>>
>>19303648
>The Ryogoku tournament was a symbol of the difficult times, and was a chaotic event. In the IWGP Heavyweight Championship match, Kazuyuki Fujita applied a chokehold to Kensuke Sasaki, but he fell backwards and was counted out... I was always watching the matches from the corner of the venue as a "young Tanahashi" who loved pro wrestling, and there was a part of me that felt like I was asking myself, "What can we do to make it more interesting?" So, during that time when I couldn't see what I wanted to see, I watched with mixed feelings.

>Even in the midst of all this, there were voices of support for the younger generation among fans. A singles match between me and Nakamura was voted in as the top choice by fans for the November 13th Osaka Dome event, and it was set to take place. However, three days before the event, (Antonio) Inoki used his authority and the card was changed.

>Even back then, not only the fans but myself had been wondering, "When will my first match with Nakamura take place?" so I thought, "Now it's here." But at the time, that match card probably didn't have the power to draw an audience or the influence to reach Inoki. I think Nakamura, who had a closer relationship with Inoki than I did, was more damaged... In the end, I ended up facing Hustle's Ogawa (Naoya) and Kawada (Toshiaki), who were teaming up with Tenzan and making waves at the time.
