>how are they different from any other flatbread dish?
They're not too different, although the spices we used for it make it really savory. Gotta love it, but it's waaay too filling and I felt really fat after all of that.

For lurker-chan(I figure that'd be better than "stalker anon"), a not-so-jelly jellyfish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxozoa
These are a group of parasitic cnidarians, the group that has jellyfish and corals in it. However, these myxozoans have become microscopic parasites. They also reproduce via something more akin to spores, which is a huge divergence from the basal animal life cycle and of course that of cnidarians. This isn't the first time cnidarians have done extremely weird things though, but those posts will have to wait for whenever I wake up B^).

i don't really like this year so far. i think we should veto and go onto the next. people asking me "what did you do over the holiday break?" at work is liable to make me break myself. the routine normies do talking about how great of a time they had with family and friends really is a bit much sometimes.

We're almost 1% of the way through the year already, so it'll be over before you know it.
That does sound pretty miserable though. It's easy to say stuff without realising how much it can hurt someone. I'm sure I've done that, and been on the receiving end, a bunch of times.

Personally, Randal's brother Luther reminds me of my maternal uncle. He's in his early 40's but just as young in terms of appearence and mind as my uni peers who are in their 20's. i was kind of isolating, anyway. i just spent a lot of time walking around taking photos the last week and some change. i kind of shattered a few days ago. just going to spoiler since people are sick of when i post non-genki things at this point.

i'm not really sure what to do with the rest of the year. i'm kind of waiting for a few years to pass anyway and then i don't know what to do next or where to go. i don't think i'll be staying where i am at this rate.

>It is a shame ur fren couldn't do anything with u... Did they get back 2 u at least?
no.. it sounds really stupid, but i've had a deep anxious unease in my stomach that makes me think they're not really doing good right now. call it a sixth sense or something, but it's been swirling for the last two weeks easily... it's a feeling that comes in from my dreams. i wish i could be there for them at least, and while i miss them so much, i'm meant to keep away at times like this i think.

I can't help but wonder, after recently looking at loriciferans if it might not be a not too distant relative. Similar body shape for both, both ecdysozoans and with seemingly one opening for the mouth. Even the wiki posits that they could be related to the scalidophorans(or a larval form of one), which is full of the closest living relatives of the loriciferans by molecular(DNA) studies from what I read. So it looks like I got beat to the punch on that idea.

I was doing some investigating on the oil pit squid stuff. It seems I was right to assume that they used an open sludge pit(meaning it wasn't enclosed in a building or maybe with concrete but was a pit dug and then set with liner). However, it seems like they didn't even use liner because they had a whole environmental report about finding VOC(volatile organic compounds) and TCE(trichloroethane in the paper but TCE is used more commonly for trichloroethylene which would make more sense) in the soil that had to be remedied.

How about you, fren? Also pic related is some art drawn in inspiration for the oil pit squids. However, the descriptions from the paper and such compare them to mutated nightcrawlers which lines up really well with my theory for it...

They're waaay slower coming out of their tubes. Tube worms are kind of like that too deep down in the abyss. The key if you want to poke them is to be slow, sudden movements spook 'em but if you're slow they won't notice you getting close until you poke 'em. Also

Have a carnivorous sponge. Unlike their otherwise filter feeding counter parts, these guys feed with hook-like spicules on their surface. Small zooplankton will get hooked onto them, like velcro, when the water current pushes them across. Later the sponge encloses the little guy to digest them(iirc). One of my favorite artists made a pretty picture before with a lady having a harp sponge head too.

They're pretty darn big sometimes too, but they get a bad wrap because of their appearance. Fierce but not so harmless. You're more likely to get seriously hurt from them trying to get away from you than them biting you since they prefer fish they can gobble down. Smaller gar are also like that, but I've caught spotted gar and have to remove the hooks from them. Their bite strength is really weak, you can hold open their mouths with no issue.

Jewfish on the other hand... They earn their name and are mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ia376QKMHM

Nah, you gotta go a good amount of time without any food. 24 hours is a good amount of time, it triggers the body to go through autophagy(basically your body freaks out and starts cleaning up broken stuff in your body and making dysfunctional cells kill themselves). Calorie restriction will just make you burn some fat(but probably just glycogen) which is also not bad, but it doesn't offer the same cancer reduction or slowed aging effect that fasting does because it's not a sudden lack of all food intake, just a slight reduction. Have an acorn worm too.

This place is very heterogenous, as the interior of the state where less people have immigrated is still very southern and holds the old accent, while the coast(where I live), tends to give you a more normal American accent. No, I wouldn't joke about something like that. I was baptized according to eastern orthodox traditions and my parents have a lot of icons in our house but they've always been pretty relaxed/not caring about faith. I wasn't forced to pray or go to church, becoming more cautious about my faith was a personal decision and it helped a lot when mental health was at the lowest.

I've uploaded rants to some of the threads back in Summer if I remember correctly, although I don't think many people cared about random sperg shit B^).

Also, I see. I haven't had many good experiences with the churches and Christian institutions where I live and I certainly can't call myself religious. I do however see the good in Christianity and its morality, but it isn't something for me. Your love of yaoi stuff just left me not expecting you to be devout, as most Christians would certainly be repulsed by it or upset by it, even if it's just fictional and not pornographic or at least what you post here isn't.

Resisting your urges each time they come up. The more you do it without being punished the better you ought to get at it. Other ways of building up willpower would also apply. If it's habitual stuff you want to get over then forming more helpful habits will help, especially if you do them when you would otherwise want to do the more detrimental one(s).

I... Well he knows how to be really provocative. I'll watch that video after I finish this stream from the guy who runs a kiwi farm. Joshua is so far very upset.

Did you know that there are tarantulas who form mutualistic relationships with frogs? The working theory is that the frogs protect them from parasites(or maybe it was parasitioids, the lethal equivalent of a parasite.) and the tarantulas kind of protect them and they get to live in the burrow with with them. They also get a snack if a parasite shows up.

I do love the cute little frog though, I claim to be the frog. Speaking of frogs, baby greenhouse frogs are adorable and so tiny. They skip the tadpole stage entirely and they lay their eggs in the ground, no water needed. Pic related is a baby one. You can find this kind of stuff on YouTube? Also, I see. That would definitely make the dynamic work more so. Although I have to say that I far prefer being the bigger party. It's what I'm used to; towering over people.

For more cool frogs, we have the crab eating frog whose tadpoles can survive in salinities higher than that of seawater and to whom the adults can make temporary excursions into seawater. The mechanism they use for this is actually similar to what sharks do, they use urea being accumulated in their tissues to change the water activity in them. Water activity is basically the preference for water to accumulate in one substance over another, the lower value medium attracts more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab-eating_frog
This was also probably how the giant saltwater temnospondyl(s) of the past managed to live in their marine environments. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trematosauroidea

Are you a good artist, anon? Also, I'm glad you like it, I love it too. It's my favorite frog doodle. You should see cuttlefish eyes too. They have really useful properties. Cuttlefish lack color vision but their eyes act kind of like a prism, so that certain colors are shifted over to different parts of the eye. This allows them to see what color something is(and camouflage themselves) without actually being able to see colors directly.

ROMAN RVLES is a very gay thing, but also there is a weird thing with fujo women and gay bottoms maybe having fairly similar brains. Gay men have more feminized brains and fujos tend to be autistic women and autism is correlated with masculine development. Autistic girls(pre-pubescent iirc) have facial masculine scores in the middle between neurotypical girls and neurotypical boys whilst autistic boys went off the scale from the study I read.
>I remember having a conversation with some anon who wanted to be Randal's human pet and he also wanted to be velvet worm.

They'd be a better candidate for being mammal-like than sharks, as there are quite a few shark species out there that still lay eggs. These tsetse flies also produce a kind of "milk" for their young, which is a defining trait for mammals. Flamingos produce a kind of milk in their throats to feed their young too iirc. It's red, like blood too.

I heard about them a while back before I was looking into fairy shrimp for selective breeding. One of the selective breeding extreme scenarios I had in mind was living in tar and then my brain made the connection that maybe the oil pit squid could've been a kind of fairy shrimp that had adapted to live in the ones at the factory. It'd explain why they were gone by the time the pit was cleaned(as they have short lives and rely on their vernal pools to dry up in many cases). By cleaning them too they likely got rid of any eggs that could've hatched to spawn a new generation of them.
>I was errr... sleeping mostly. I've done a lot of sleeping yesterday
Sleep is good for you, it's necessary for repairing a lot of our body and handling waste too.

Here's an example I've posted before in a prior thread of some pale fairy shrimp. You can imagine how the antennae might be confused for tentacles, especially when they swim backwards like a shrimp to escape a predator.
>>
>>79948166
>>79948248
Also of course, with much more elongated antennae too. But the cerci(the things on their tail) could be confused for 'em too. That pic is of some that get to be about half the size of what the oil pit squids were reported as.

Knightoconus is actually one ancient snail that is thought to be a stem cephalopod(the group squids, octopuses and nautiluses all belong to). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightoconus
The main idea is that the monoplacophorans were the initial state, based on some shell morphology -- however, we have found something that seems to be monoplacophorans in the modern day but they don't actually have a close genetic relationship to squids or anything and instead are more closely related to chitons. It's either the case that these are descended from the original monoplacophorans and the consensus about them is wrong or that these monoplacophorans of the modern day are just convergently evolved to be like the old ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoplacophora#Phylogenetic_position

Exactly! All I'll say is there are definitely much worse pokemon I could have answered with. Much better ones, too, but that's besides the point.
>my favorite is torchic! it's so cute.
I don't think I've ever picked Torchic in my Emerald playthroughs but maybe I should next time. My sister's favourite is Mudkip.
Pachirisu is cute too. I remember Dawn having one.
>it's what used to stop me from starting a new game because i didn't want my team to be gone forever
I think that's perfectly rational. I only do that now you can transfer saves and Pokemon relatively easily so you don't lose them. I would be devastated if I lost my old teams. Remind me to backup my copy of X they're all hiding on when I'm visiting home.
>didn't like it? i wasn't a fan
I found it incredibly slow. I've heard better things about USM. I feel like I should play it because the character designs were so good. GF really dropped the ball after that.
>bw was my first pokemon game! did you like it? which games were your first?
I liked it a lot and I'm excited to play BW2 since I've heard really good things about it. Platinum was my first game and the soundtrack instantly takes me back about 15 years.
>ill get to ss eventually. but scarlet/violet put me off, they look so bad
That's my thinking as well. The rights to Pokemon should be forcibly taken away from GF and given to a more responsible guardian like Monolith Soft or one of Nintendo's EPD teams.

Naked xenophyophores have been seen too, being about 2 inches across. Pelomyxa are another giant amoeba out there too, I'd love to keep them in a culture at some point. I even had thoughts about trying to make nitrate based animals -- that is animals and protists that utilize nitrates in place of oxygen in the water. There are already bacteria that utilize nitrates in place of oxygen where we would use it and nitrates are powerful oxidizers. We use nitrates in gunpowder and solid rocket fuels(potassium nitrate + sugar).

B^)
>would it be hard to do that? and then maintain them?
Maintaining them would actually be the easier part, making it happen is harder. Mitochondria as far as I'm aware lack any ability to utilize nitrates or nitrites in place of oxygen for their respiration. So the starting point would be to give the mitochondria of all of the animals and presumably some microbes the genes necessary to use it.

From there you can gradually lower the oxygen content of the air and water and raise the nitrate content. The reason I'm so interested in it is actually because nitrates have immense solubilities in water where as atmospheric oxygen is actually quite low. One way that the nitrates could be replenished in a closed system too is with electric sparks splitting nitrogen and oxygen in the air into nitrogen dioxide and other nitrogen/oxygen mixes which then end up in the water and lead into a process where they become either nitric acid or nitrates.

I haven't looked into it, but I imagine pelomyxa have endosymbionts that can denitrify and thus use nitrates in place of oxygen as well. This is all one dream project out of a whole bunch though, others involve radiation or electricity to be the basis of the food chain as well as chemosynthetic ones. Far too many ideas and no way to really manifest them )^:.

True, or some wannabe serial killer.

Where is your government housing at? In a city, or somewhere more rural? It may be possible to cut down on your power bill if you ever wanted to be crafty but I imagine you're not the kind of person who wants to mess with electronics.

So many things I'd love to do. All of it crazy B^).
>Its city! Like outskirts so it's more suburban. It's really cozy, only been leaving to get snacks baha.
I see, that makes things more difficult. If you lived somewhere more rural it'd be a lot more feasible to build something like a little dam from a stream. The electricity you could get from that is more than you might think. You could then have a pump system and a water tower for something like a power buff with some batteries. That way you can have things running all at once without needing to take power from the grid. In some places you can automatically sell power back to the grid for money. It's far less viable in suburbia though.
>I usually try to keep most stuff I'm not using off or idle, what are crafty solutions?
Like that above, but also there's the possibility to use liquid CO2 and a turbine or stirling engines. Essentially using heat differentials between the ground and the air/surface to get electricity. It's not super powerful but it's free energy once it's built and in times where the difference is larger you'll get more power(like summer and winter).

That requires pipes underground though and just beneath the ground or on the roof of your house(paint it black too for extra heat B^).)
>Ooo cute actually!!! Idk what it is about them but they look happy ahaha
They've got very cute little faces. I'd love to have them as pets. This little guy is a type of lungless salamander, a mushroomtongue species to be exact. He also looks very happy. Whilst sirens are native to the southeastern US, mushroomtongue salamanders are native to most of central America and go somewhat into South America.

>which one do you think is true?
Honestly I'm not entirely sure. I can't deny that the monoplacophorans of today have to have that more close relationship with the chitons, but I'm also not sure if the monoplacophorans of the past(the original ones, not these imposters or potential imposters) were the actual group that cephalopods evolved out from.

I do think they're distinct, the extant monoplacophorans and the extinct ones. It seems too convenient that they were missing from the fossil record for nearly 400m years and then suddenly we find them again in modern times. Although the explanation of them being confined to the deep sea can help with explaining that(as deep sea fossils are extremely rare and most of the fossils that might've formed in the deep sea are very likely gone), it just can't explain all of it.

I don't think we'll get a good answer to any of this without soft body preservations of early cephalopods and of the old monoplacophorans. If the old monoplacophorans turn out to be very anatomically similar to the modern ones then they're one continuous line, more than likely, which also means that cephalopods must have come from an entirely different mollusk lineage. Soft tissue preservations of cephalopods and other mollusks is very uncommon though. Squids, I remember, have an issue with the production of ammonia that greatly hampers the environment at which they can fossilize. I'm not too sure about all of the other groups, but ammonites are another mystery group. We have no soft bodied fossils of ammonites, only ever their shells. We do not know how many of the ammonites might have looked, to my knowledge at least. All of it is based on speculation from their shell morphology, isotope analyses and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if some fossils attributed to ammonites actually came from a weird group of what amounted to ancient, giant sea butterflies(that aren't true sea butterflies) and they just convergently evolved siphuncles.

>what is algorithmic transparency?
Some people think that the algorithms and model weights that AI systems use should be made available either publicly or to a regulator. While that sounds nice, because of how neural networks work, you're effectively asking for a long list of equations and parameters that don't mean anything. They basically just pull equations out of their ass and somehow arrive at the result you want. This makes it virtually impossible to work backwards from an output and explain how a model got there with the inputs.
In other words, focusing on algorithmic transparency is a waste of time, and you'd be better of regulating how these models are trained and used.
Understandably, this lack of transparency makes people uncomfortable but it raises the question of why we allow such low opacity in other areas of life. Hiring decisions are almost entirely opaque, yet there's only outrage when a robot make those decisions.

>what is ur fav mario game?
Lots of mainline games but rpg series (Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario) have a bigger place in my heart, simply because I love a good interesting story. Odyssey was awesome though.
Also, I wanted to talk about this for a while but I think Charles Martinet stepping down from his role as the main voice actor wasn't that bad of a move from Nintendo. I've seen so many people disliking the new guy, saying his Mario sounds too young but let's remember one thing that is important: Mario series is 40+ year old franchise and it had over a million retcons over the years. Mario may have been conceptualized as middle-aged when he was made and was thought to be so through out the 80's-90's but as for modern era he's either 26 (Smash Bros japanese profile) or 24-25 (Miyamoto's own words) so a young adult. When Kevin Afghani suceeded Martinet in 2023 he was 27 years old, so a young adult voicing young adult characters. May not be a bestest choice for Wario and Waluigi but for Mario brothers? He's perfect. Charles did a great job being THE voice of the series for years but he was getting old and it was bound to happen. And so far (in Brothership, Wonder and Jamboree) Afghani is doing a great job imo.

>what sort of animal did squids evolve from then in ur opinion?
I think they did come from a snail-like ancestor, but the kind of monoplacophoran-like ancestor that's talked about is going to be something like how the lobopodians situation in the Cambrian is. The lobopodians all look very similar and were once thought to all be one clade, but it turns out that they are almost certainly from a bunch of different lineages and all converged on similar traits. I think the monoplacophorans may be like this and maybe the cephalopods came from one group.

An example of that lobopodian stuff would be Hallucigenia( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucigenia ) which is very certainly most closely related to onychophorans, however other lobopodians are more similar to the anomalocarids and others are thought to maybe be related to the tardigrades.

I mostly just think that it's all so murky, the fossil record for the cephalopods and early mollusks.
