Question For The Thread:
What is the strangest gift you've ever gotten for Christmas?

Previous Thread: >>83386100

>How does it work?
People will post their Amazon wishlist link according to the instructions below. People who enter the thread may post their list, and it is your decision to gift who you want.
-------------------
===[FAQ:]===
READ THE FAQ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS
-------------------
>Does my address get shown?
Your city and state, and shipping name. Refer to the instruction image below. Shipping name can be anything you want.
>How will I know if something has been bought for me?
Items disappear off your list after being purchased. You can also go to your list, press Filter and Sort, then select Purchased.
>Will the information of the gifter be shown to the recipient?
Your first name may be shown. Amazon by default doesn't share but third party items may.
>Why should I gift something? I'm not gonna get anything in return!
This is a different take on a Secret Santa, where anyone can gift or get from anyone. If you're feeling generous, please do consider giving back to others.
>Last year people bought stuff for others and then cancelled them to epic fucking troll us!
And they did that the previous year, and the year before that too. It happens when you have amazon wishlists, it's disappointing to lose out on a gift, but the item will just go back on your list like they never screwed with you at all.
>How often should I post my list?
Once a day or thread depending on the speed of the general
>Can I post multiple lists?
No. Only 1.
>The threads are too early!

A giant protein bar, but it was good. I don't really consider any gifts I have ever received strange though.

I am watching the series called Landman at the moment and then I am probably going to sleep eventually. What are you guys up to?

>What is the strangest gift you've ever gotten for Christmas?
Can't recall ever getting "strange" gift. I've given them, though. My little cousin had a habit of leaving her dirty-ass socks over at our place when she'd visit, so one Christmas I gave her a bunch of her own dirty socks wrapped up in gift paper. Got her a real present, too, of course, but that's the only "strange" gift I can think of.
Lots of "default boy" presents, though. Like a random catcher's mitt or a football-shaped clock or some shit. I feel bad looking back on those as lame gifts, and part of my conscience wants to correct me and be like, "Oh, they at least got you something," but those ones almost felt contemptuous.
There really is a way to do presents wrong. Don't get me wrong here, if Great Aunt Bertha in Nebraska who hasn't seen you since you were 6 and who has interacted with you for 37 total minutes of her life thinks of you and gets you any gift at all, be grateful. The same goes for obvious poverty gifts, like dollar store toys or terrible off-brand movie ripoff DVD's from the Wal-Mart checkout.
But if this kid has been walking around for 2 years uninterrupted covered in Pokemon drip, doesn't actually own any Pokemon games or merch, watches Pokemon every day, keeps bringing up Pokemon shit that they want or like, and then Christmas or a birthday rolls around and his parents, who are massive sports fans, get him nothing but sports-themed gifts plus game tickets for them to go with him to watch sportsball , with Pokemon ENTIRELY absent from the party, and then they keep doing stuff like that for years, after a while those gestures start to feel... Shitty. Barbed, even.

>itunes gift card despite no ipod
This was 1000% a "don't let it go to waste" or "just give them something" gift.

I am legit just happy somebody watched Yatterman in 2025, dude. Something about the mecha fight sequences tickles me PINK. They're creative and funny and I'm just like, "Wow, this was on TV in the 1970's?" Shame that so many in the west only know Yatterman as the electric yoyo dude from Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

I don't. You're free to check their archives for the past month and my Amazon link. I haven't posted on there this year at all, since I'm not into comics. /fit/ has problems not unlike those endemic to gyms. You put enough vanity, insecurity, ego, pride, steroids, narcissism, and body image crap in the same space, and it becomes bitchy.
Don't worry, though, Anon. You don't need gym culture, or external validation, or really even advice. True progress is made in the quiet of the night when the 3 AM motivation hits, or in the privacy of your room with a motivational podcast blasting that you'd be self-conscious for anyone to hear. It happens when you silently decide not to snack, and no alarm bells go off announcing to the world that you made a healthy choice. When you find yourself so weak that you start off with tiny little weights you'd be embarassed to see lifting in public, or to announce to the world. The 10 damn squats a day that made a habit and broke the inertia for you-would you shout them from the rooftops? The sets that took all day to convince yourself to do-you couldn't do those in a gym, anyway. It'd be hogging the bench. And really a lot of the advice and motivational stuff is convincing yourself to do what you know you ought to do already. How many times do you need to be told to work out and eat right?
Don't let the shittiness of /fit/ dissuade you at all from getting /fit/. It's not like they own it.

>>83413047
I was considering it for similar reasons, but somehow I feel like it'd be obnoxious behavior that might get one or both threads janny'd. And I even crosspost to /co/ so it's not like I'd be just showing up and begging, it just feels... Eh. I dunno, you do you, hope some rich NEET looks up from his Loud House fart porn and decides to send you some Christmas cheer.

Look at my spine, nigga. I'm literally in pain all day. I can't work, or do anything, I'm about to be homeless soon unless a pull a miracle and get my brain to focus and go back to school, my only option right now is to go back to school and get my engineering degree, if that doesn't happen I'm legitimately dead, and that's not an exaggeration.

I used to think I could apply for government assistance and get help but apparently not, since I'm not completely disabled, my bad spine doesn't qualify me for disability, they expect me to work through the pain. I'm going back to school not even because of the degree, or money at the end, I just need some purpose for now, I can't kill myself yet because it would destroy my parents. I plan on going to school and making my parents proud by becoming an engineer, once they pass away I'll put a bullet through my skull though, I can't live with this level of pain for too long, it slowly breaks you psychologically, I'm a shell of myself nowadays, tired of going from hospital to hospital, and been pinched by needles every couple weeks, it sucks, take care of your back, I don't think most people realize how life ending a herniated disc can be.

Okay, I'm not you and I'm not wageslave medAnon, but... THIS. You know how your job says to use "proper lifting technique?" That isn't just to make the insurance guys happy. A fucked-up back will RUIN you. Do not let laziness on your part or simply not caring on yohr boss's part fuck up your whole life. A back injury is a pain in the ass at all hours of the day and it will ruin the quality of every hour of the day. Don't let your boss do that to you, and don't trade all that happiness to shave 2 seconds off lifting a box at your 17.25 warehouse job. The same goes for you if you're an EMT or nurse the next time you get a 325-pound patient with no lift assist. Fuck that. Save your back.
I really do wish all the best for you, Anon. Every year you stay alive, medicine gets just a little better. If there's no fix for you yet, there could be yet.
I know that's cope, but it's true, and I'd like you sticking around just in case something cool happens. You shouldn't miss it.

A guitar pick holder. I haven't played guitar since I was a teenager and the relative that gave this to me knew that. It was only a few years ago too. I still appreciate it, it felt more personal since it was something for what I used to do, but I really had/have no need for it.

I still haven't made a song for SSG this year. I've been very uninspired and distracted with other things. I still don't know anything about songwriting either. I just mess around on my guitar until I like the sound of what I'm doing, and I rarely ever progress towards what people would call a finished song. It appears that the guy who tried to cover my song isn't here this year, which is unfortunate. This is the original recording https://vocaroo.com/1jF9XDK7OiPu
>What is the strangest gift you've ever gotten for Christmas?
An oyster knife. I've only ever had access to shelled oysters. Oyster knives happen to be really good for separating coconut flesh from its shell too, but I only want the juice. Coconut cream is really good but it takes way too much work to make it

I've been remarkably sedentary for my entire life. The only exercise I get is mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, and moving groceries from my mother's car to the kitchen. I'm sure I could gain a lot of strength if I tried, but I probably never will. My current diet is just raw honey, raw meat/eggs, and pasteurized butter. The meat is mostly beef/swordfish muscle meat, but I sometimes eat beef hearts and livers. I only drink ozonated spring water, and I don't need to drink much because of what I eat. One time I stopped drinking water for 4 months and relied entirely on this food along with some fruit. It was fine except that adding all those carbs made me start to gain a lot of fat

They really need to return to clear-shell electronics like they had during fhe gameboy/N64 era where you can actually see the machine's innards. I know that with everything more complex now it'd be a taller order, but I feel like it could be done. Plus, with frutiger aero's recent resurgence in popularity, I feel like it could be a really cool aesthetic. The old iBooks leaned very hard into the "blue" side of the "blue vs green" frutiger aero battle.

A lot of lizards in general, actually.
>Does it feel painful for them to drop their tails?
They sever the nerve endings at the same time, so pain is minimal. It's still not great for the lizard since regrowing the tail is expensive energy-wise (and bad for any pet owners because it never seems to grow back quite as pretty as before), but it sure beats being eaten.
>>

>was this an evolutionary thing to minimize as much pain as possible?
It's so the lizard can resume normal activities soon after.
>Do they eat more to regenerate it quicker?
Not necessarily, but they may reduce activity to compensate while it regrows (which can take weeks or months).
>Do other animals have a similar mechanism?
It's extremely rare in vertebrates (a quick google search informed me of a few species of African mice that can lose parts of their skin, but that's about it besides lizards) but there's some bugs that drop legs this way, because of course there are.
>Are there any strange cases when they'd drop their tails without a clear reason(gecko mental illness idk)
It's typically an involuntary reaction, such as when the tail is grabbed with sufficient force.

i'm so sorry but whenever i see anyone talk about 'frutiger aero' or 'older brother core' or whatever the fuck it makes me vomit a little bit in my mouth.

It's this obsession with the past because we have no tangible cultural artifiacts in this moment. I saw a tiktok that talked more about it and explained it better than me but like also its just so performative.

I've been collecting old shit for a long time, long before the pandemic or frutiger aero was a thing. I've just had a fascination with these things, and actually getting them working to some semblance or even the history behind it. I promise you these mfs are posers and 'oh i would love to use [x]' and guess what, theres a reason we use the things we use now, trust me, I tried.

I mean, it's a fair take, at least insofar as recycling culture is sonething we do a lot of. I sort of grew up anachronistic in that we had a lot of old tech and such lying around, but the whole "retro" thing has definitely been milked. For reference, they were already trying to milk 80's nostalgia in the 2000's with the release of the NES-themed gamebiy advance SP and all the old NES rerelease carts. So if the 80's and are making a comeback, this is the second time they've done it in my living memory.

Yeah, they basically priced us out of starter homes. It's really not a mark of shame anymore to live "at home" well into adulthood.
>I just want to sleep
I feel you. You're basically coming home to an additional stressor now. That's when you start spending 20 minutes in the car in front of your house just building up the strength to walk inside. Or doing "revenge procrastination" on your phone late at night instead of going to bed because you didn't get enough "me time." Or maybe I'm projecting. In any case, it's a job into itself.
You're pushing 30 and you've got your grandma, though. That's cool. Lots of people didn't get to grow up with any of their grandparents, or they only knew them from holidays. You get to drink deeply of your grandma. Sucks she's sick. Fuck cancer.
I'm sort of a child of grandparents, too. Mine helped raise me. Big time. I think that's really cool and special.
In any case Anon, don't forget to stop and take inventory sometimes. These situations can normalize and habituate behaviors that really aren't healthy, and before you know it, years have passed and now that's just a thing. You matter. Your needs matter. The dumb shit you just LIKE matters.

I dropped out and a lot of my life has been fucked since. It feels helpless since I trust no one in my family and I have never had true friends. I only have myself left.

Now I'm awake and see there was some comfy posting going on. I love to see it. I'll be around for about 30 minutes and then off to watch Christmas movies. How's everyone doing? Have anything planned for today? I don't have anything. I did see nobody won the lottery again so it's 1.5 billion now. Definitely need to play because you never know. Playing once a year seems like a reasonable amount.

I really do like Trubbish, though. Have since Gen 5. I think I just like the idea if a Pokemon whose spawn is an actual garbage dump and who is literally trash but who just wants to be your fren. I always imagined it'd be like the one Pokemon that would spawn in an /r9k/ hikki's room in the pokemon world after they never went on an adventure. Like one day you wake up and there's just a fucking trash yokai in your room because you ignored your mom's pleas to clean it, and you actually catch the bastard with the dusty pokeball you have in your drawer next to your tenga egg, and now it's your best buddy. And your mom's happy because now you're at least doing something, but now there's like a level 77 Garbodor just lumbering around her house and you still haven't cleaned it.

>Thank fuck the delivery guy didn't need a signature

I will spell it out in case any of you lurkers cannot break past this.
The new captcha's "select which image is different" is pattern recognition. One element of one of the three sets of characters or shapes shown will differentiate it from the other two. So far, the differentiating elements are:
>characters
A sequence of non-alphabetic characters (#%$&) will be shown with two alphabetical ones, or two numerical sequences. Alternatively, a sequence of numbers will be shown with two alphabetical sequences (sequences of just letters), or vice-versa. Pick the one that has a different "kind" character used in its sequence (numbers, letters, $&#%$, etc.)
>character color
Here the captcha will present two black sequences and one white one, or two white sequences with a single black one. Pick the colored sequence (blacknor white) that does not have a "partner," or that is "left out" when forming like-colored pairs.
>character placement
This one's tricky. Either it's a rare element for them to use, or I got lucky and failed to distinguish another differentiating factor on one of these I succeeded on. In any case, if character placement is a factor, then pick the set that isn't in the same part of the captcha field as the other two. Two sequences in the upper right and one on the lower left? Pick the lower-left one. I am high as balls so maybe I just missed something, but this did strike me as MAYBE being a "different" factor in the new captchas.
>odd shape out
Thesd ones use triangles, circles, and half-circles. Again, pick the shape that does not have a "partner" when forming pairs, and single it out. Two triangles and a half circle? Pick the half circle. This one has room for variation and is possibly the one that will have the most "no right answer" moments as it used to train AI.
These will likely evolve to include new elements (the shape one has potential), but the puzzle always involves forming a pair with shared qualities and picking the odd one out.
>>
30 MINUTES UNTIL STEAM WINTER SALE

I don't really game anymore, so I don't care about it, but what is everyone wanting?
>>
>>83422072
Another kind that you'll see frequently, and which I neglected to include, is the dot one. With that one, black or white dots will be used to form a pattern. Pick the pattern that has a different number of dots, or whose dots form a different shape. Two sets of 4 dots making T shapes, and 1 set of 2 dots? Pick the 2 dots. This one also has potential because I've seen them mix up qualia. For instance, they've used a mix of both black and white dots in puzzles where thw differentiating factor was their number and orientation, not their color. Like the shape one, this one has potential to trip people up and is where I would include any kind of bot-training. You can also think of each puzzle from multiple angles; thinking "there are two T shapes made from dots and one line" and thinking "there are two sets of four dots and one set of three" BOTH yield the right answer.
Moreover, the dot puzzle CAN be something of a vision test, since dark dots can bs hidden in the dark splotches used to AI-proof the captcha field.
Once again, there is room here for variation and they will definitely evokve these. Just look out for differentiating factors like:
>type
>color
>shape
>spatial orientation
>number
>some combo of the above or whatever else they come up with
And always pick the one in the set of 3 that doesn't have the quality shared by the other 2.

I think it's mostly now just gambling games (gacha, sports, etc.), online shooters, and flavor of the week shit. The latter of course being whatever streamers are paid to push. A lot of people made a fuckton of money by figuring out all you have to do is push a game to big streamers and their audience will buy it.

Anyone noticed how the internet is full of suffering? Ever since I hurt my back I've spent a lot of time in forums and places where people talk about their injuries, and it's filled with people in being, in the verge of homelessness, and all sort of stuff, it's fucking depressing. Especially seeing young kids, like in their early 20s, their lives completely ruined at such a young age, it's fucking depressing dude.

If there's something that will really get me to stop spending too much time on the computer it will be this, there's just way too much suffering online, it leaves me feeling hopeless hearing other people's problems and knowing I can't do anything to help them.

Women are easy to buy for. Even without knowing anything about her, you can buy her jewelry, lotion, scented candles, a nice handbag, etc. Doesn't have to be expensive.

Men are the tricky ones. There's not a lot of generic gifts that will work for most men besides maybe food and gift cards.

>>83425560
The Switch has a lot of good games.
>Zelda
>Metroid
>Monster Hunter Rise (or GU, depending on your preference)
>countless JRPGs I don't care about (but you might)
It also has a lot of indie support, which, let's face it, is where most of the good stuff is nowadays.

Went with a couple of smaller items that relate to stuff she likes along with a quality wearable throw blanket that looked cute and comfy.
Did the whole handful of cheaper presents instead of a single more expensive one in the past which went over well so I hope she likes it.
I did my best.

You forgot to mention Animal Crossing in your list of games for the switch by the way, it's quite fun in a cozy way.

Smut. You are going to draw unforgivable cartoon smut.

>>83427023
The shitty thing about waging is that it eats up all the time you were going to spend self-improving or doing creative stuff. You come home tired after daydreaming all day and just forlornly imagine yourself starting that project someday. Someday, when you magically have the confluence of abundant free time and money and energy to do all the stuff you care about.
But if you don't work, you have no money. Now you can't do creative stuff or big projects because you're worried about survival day-to-day. Imagine spending the whole day working for some far-off, lofty goal when you have to scrounge to handle the next 3 days, consistently.
Eventually you begin to fantasize about having a patron. The Renaissance men had those, right?
It's the eternal struggle.

nta, but I never feel bad for homeless people because 90% of them did it to themselves by being drug addicts. <=1% are homeless for financial reasons, which they did to themselves for being retarded with money. That happens with old people too at care facilities, but nobody is saying we should shut those down. Just have stricter hiring standards and stricter oversight to catch that shit. Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. If a small percentage gets abused, that's still worth reopening them and getting all the crazies off the street. A safer society is worth the cost.

I've don't lots of different lengths of fasts in the past, it does make you feel incredible the first handful of times before your body gets used to it, enjoy it while it lasts.
I'll still occasionally knock out a 2-5 day fast every once in a while just because the health benefits are worth it, people are scared by it as if it wasn't a completely normal experience our ancestors went through.

Yeah, it was a weird and long story. It was even weirder because the first time I joined SSG, in 2019, I was hit by Super Santa. Imagine trying to explain to people that a random stranger in a random weeb website bought me about a $1000 worth of stuff.

yes, any one of them is fine.

This anon >>83431179 pretty much has it right. Exposures can vary depending on the object, its brightness, distance from Earth, etc. You also need specific equipment to take these pictures. Camera wise you can use any DSLR you have at home but arguably the most important piece of equipment has to be your mount/star tracker. A star trackers job it to follow the apparent motion of the stars throughout your imaging session. Without it, you'd get annoying star trails since your camera is not moving with the stars while taking the exposure.

>This looks like something just exploded in the sky
Believe it or not you are correct, most nebulae are a result of stars going supernova aka exploding.

Tarantula Nebula:
>Official designation: NGC 2070
>Type: Emission Nebula
>Constellation: Dorado but technically its located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way
>Distance from Earth: 160000 to 170000 light years

I'm still kicking around, I'm just in a funk I can't get out of right now. I feel so helpless without a job. I'll pick two anons to gift tonight or tomorrow though.

Do any of you guys have any non-Christmas movies that you watch around Christmas? For me, it's Brother Bear.

Why do you feel helpless without a job? If you don't have a job, you should be saving your money, not spending it.

LOTR, Contagion, and a few which are always shown on UK television around Christmas, like The Great Escape and Chicken Run

I do have a good streaming app that lets me watch pretty much anything. At one point, it had like 80 soccer matches from around the world on. I don't even like soccer, but it is impressive. Fucking thing even had handball and Japanese baseball, which was cool to see at 5am my time.

Well, it's time for me to get some sleep. Had a nice time with everyone, and we're almost at a new thread. It would be cool to see a new one when I wake up, so someone be ready to make a new one. I feel like my parents are kinda hard to label politically. I mean, they're both avid trump supporters and have fox news on almost 24/7, but are kinda weird.

I guess you can say my mom is more typical republican. She's very 'let the markets handle it' type person.

But my dads a bit odd to me. He listens to NPR, yet believes global warming is a liberal scam (or something along those lines). YET he still recycles and has been rocking EVs for before it was cool (although EVs really aren't that much 'greener' than gas cars with all the metals and what not) and was even in support of Luigi.

To be honest, I don't really care and I know I won't sway them either way, if I wanted to. Still funny to see their reactions to trump idiocies, like him hiding the files. It was a weird reaction, but idk.

is liking fat women okay if im fit
>>
>>83434236
Not really that bad, there are worse fetishes. Maybe it's an "I can fix her' fetish that you have. A lot of men back then preferred fat women because they were indicative of being upper class.
Also, wow at the thread being dead.
