Sunday, there are a bunch of supporting signs for this too other than this post, like NOTAMs (which are posted by FAA), road closing, two different space journalists saying there are rumours about something happening (Berger and Davenport), a lot of trucks coming in to the propellant depot, all the preflight testing done for the ship and booster

the only thing that is left is installing the FTS charges and getting the actual license, which they could get on the same day

Far worse for Boron jet fuels, because there was a major coking problem.

https://spacenews.com/startup-takes-new-approach-to-space-based-solar-power/
>Aetherflux announced Oct. 9 plans to develop and ultimately deploy a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit that will collect solar power and beam it to Earth using infrared lasers. The company is planning to demonstrate this technology with a small satellite launching by early 2026.
>The concept is a departure from many previous concepts for space-based solar power (SBSP), which have involved large arrays in geostationary orbit. Those systems would transmit their power using microwaves to large rectennas on the ground. Such concepts have been studied for more than half a century but have not advanced beyond the drawing board.

>The NASA administrator at the time, Sean O'Keefe, sought to develop a new generation of spacecraft powered by nuclear reactors as part of what he called Project Prometheus. He believed that a mission with Europa as its main target offered a perfect test case for the technology, and thus, the Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter was born. This was a highly ambitious mission. A typical spacecraft uses on the order of a few hundred watts of power. This probe, powered by a nuclear reactor, would have had on the order of 100,000 watts of power.

two Neutron launches in 2028, a earth return orbiter spacecraft, a lander with MAV(?)
wasn't Impulse Space doing some kind of mars lander with relativity space or someone else? Rocketlab could contract the lander out to them, do the orbiter themselves (they have been doing spacecraft now)
I think it might be somewhat realistic if they get Neutron launching, though not sure if there is a point with Starship on the horizon
at this point it seems likely that Starship is going to become operational before Neutron

A pet theory of mine is that many, possibly even most “star” systems don’t have a star at all. That many protoplanetary disks only have enough mass for a system the size of jupiter and its moons.
These could be extremely common but we wouldn’t know as they would emit no visible light and likely be almost undetectable to other methods like radio telescopes.

This is also nonsense trying to make it "personal" when we all know its about Tesla as a company, SpaceX as a company, and all that. Musk himself is a frontman for his companies. So he will be damn man when anyone tries to snub his companies. Lot of hard work went into that and for the government not only sub them in PR but also try to snub them through legeslative actions, through frivolous lawsuits, through lawfare, through regulatory delays, etc. Democrat is a party of evil.
>>
>>16417585
yeah they are trying to frame this as Musk being personally hurt is why he started supporting Trump
its about policies, the personal animosity from democrats is really just a cherry on top of that and a result of musk disagreeing with their policies (unions with the EV thing for instance, but generally big government)

I think to an extent thiel being politically aligned with musk helps in that respect.

its obvious that you are right. For some reason astronomers said planet sized systems dont form because 'muh theories', even though it was obvious. And now that they have detected jupiter mass systems they claim that smaller systems dont form. Clown world.
Considering that the smaller a star is the more common it is observed in the universe, there is no reason to believe that this law doesnt apply to objects smaller than stars. Red dwarfs are observed to be 3x more common than all other stars combined, even though they are much dimmer and harder to detect. Its clear what the implication is for objects smaller than stars.

Applying spectral analysis to the Atlantic and Pacific hurricane time series, we found periodicities that coincide with the main sunspot and magnetic solar cycles. To assess the possibility that these periodicities could be associated with solar activity, we obtain correlations between hurricane occurrence and several solar activity-related phenomena, such as the total solar irradiance, the cosmic ray flux and the Dst index of geomagnetic activity. Our results indicate that the highest significant correlations are found between the Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes and the Dst index. Most importantly, both oceans present the highest hurricane–Dst correlations during the ascending part of odd solar cycles and the descending phase of even solar cycles. This shows not only the existence of a 22 yr cycle but also the nature of such periodicity. Furthermore, we found that the Atlantic hurricanes behave differently from the Pacific hurricanes in relation to the solar activity-related disturbances considered.

Applying wavelet spectral analysis to the hurricane time series, we found periodicities that coincide with the main sunspot and magnetic solar cycles. In the Atlantic Ocean there are peaks near 11 and 22 yr. The Pacific Ocean time series is not long enough to allow the identification of the 22 yr cycle, however the 11 yr cycle clearly appears.

it's not just pure stupidity, most humans have incredibly weak souls/constitutions, frail minds that can't come up with a comprehensive modus operandi to cope this cruel indifferent world by themselves, there used to be a wrangler for this large group of incredibly weakminded people and that was religion. but now that god is dead, everyone is just creating their own religions to justify their existence, only now without any structure and moral objectivity (not that i necessarily agree with the specific moral objectivism of most traditional religions but they were useful for keeping people at least somewhat in line).
as a kid i was one of those cringeworthy atheists that wanted to epically dunk on le stupid christians and mudslimes for believing in gods. but now i realize they weren't stupid, they were just using an adequate coping mechanism they desperately needed to not go insane. the world is worse off now that many of these same people believe they can go on without any ordered belief system, because truth is while many of them might not necessarily be stupid, they're just not capable of creating a coherent, sane belief/moral system of their own without guidance.

https://spacenews.com/debate-over-space-guard-rekindles-amid-growing-reliance-on-satellites-for-disaster-relief/

i've been against space national guard for the most part but there might be some wiggle room here.
>>
>>16418436
>National Guard forces are activated when local resources are overwhelmed by natural disasters.
>National Guard units are uniquely positioned to provide these services during domestic crises, thanks to the authorities granted under Title 32, which active-duty military do not have

>During Hurricane Helene’s aftermath, the Federal Emergency Management Agency shipped 180 Starlink kits to North Carolina, reinforcing calls for better integration of satellite technology into disaster relief efforts.
>Currently, about 700 members of the Air National Guard support space operations, including satellite communications. However, whether there is enough political will to create a separate Space National Guard remains uncertain. The Biden administration has consistently argued that integrating these units into the Space Force would be simpler and more cost-effective.

maybe we dont need a space national guard, but some kind of space force attachment to air national guard for dealing with spaceflight issues

and oh yeah the oneweb spokeperson comment was actually in the article itself

Amazing that we were able to run power and telephone lines to nearly anywhere other than the most remote areas of Alaska and yet this was treated like some impossible undertaking by telecoms while congress played dumb went along with it. Supposedly now there's better progress being made with fiber but just like oldspace its probably too little too late.

GPS has centimeter precision. What it lacks is centimeter accuracy. Two receivers next to each other might not be correct on position, but they should be correct about the distance between them. So you put a receiver on your "target", and compare with its readings.
There's other ways to augment it, but just GPS alone should work if you can get a stream of what your target's position is.

Yes, even if the robots fail over time, its an opportunity that will NOT be missed. They can lower one, test it to failure, then lower another with new software. Then, another. Bring 20, why not?
Radiation hardening will not be required, because the dense 3nm (or smaller by launch date) process node chips will be kept deep within the heart of a rad-shielded Starship core, and wireless navigate with high bandwidth, unlimited spectrum channels (fuck the FCC) over a radio mast tower on top of the Ship, commanding them with a much more powerful AI server than you though possible. They will be the smartest robots ever, and on fucking MARS.
Power source / temperature will be limiting, not brains.

A full set of the CFR consists of approximately 200 volumes. The approximately 200 CFR volumes are revised at least once a year on a quarterly basis as follows: Titles 1 -- 16 as of January 1. Titles 17 -- 27 as of April 1.
In 1960, the CFR contained 22,877 pages. Since 1975 until the end of 2019, its total page count had grown from 71,224 to 185,984, including the index—a 161 percent increase. The number of CFR bound volumes stands at 242 for the past four years, compared with 133 in 1975.
By 2016, there were 104.6 million words of federal regulation on the books, about 195 percent growth over 1970, with a corresponding increase in reading time of almost two years.

None of the retards the replied to you know anything. To give a rundown, they want non-NASA astronauts for the most part, like ESA, CSA, private individuals etc. They ALSO have the Haven-Lab which is in the vide behind the wooden doors. Its essentially a bunch of microwave sized slots for people to pay to send up to do whatever they need inside it. These slots supply power, internet and Vast themselves have software being designed so that anyone who buys a slot can easily perform their experiments. These slots are rented out and can be brought back down from Haven-1, and continually swapped out when people need to get results so its a pretty good system. There have already been two buyers in Redwire who did picrel and Yuri who are basically aending up a centrifuge that they themselves can rent out spots on for anyone that needs that specifically. One more thing, they will be training their own astronauts so you get a full package deal which is especially important to private individuals.

You need 3 points on a plane + origin in order to triangulate; in case you forgot your trig. There are over 6,000 Starlink satellites in orbit right now. At any given time, any Starship/SuperHeavy would be able to talk to the entire network with extra telemetry that no other customer would have access to, and be able to get exact positional data with reference to origin (itself) + 3 satellites + ground station for RTLS. That would be more than enough info for it to then know exactly where it was geospatially to the prodigious degree of achieving 1/2 cm accuracy.
>>

I could be wrong about that, or the info could be outdated. I got that from a coworker who used be on submarines but he’s been out for 15+ years at this point.

The barge moves to a degree because of the ocean itself, anon. A fixed point on the earth itself and the tower both are stationary and not influenced by what anything else, like the ocean, does. SpaceX has been nailing the center pretty frequently on its landing, but the drift we see is entirely due to the water below influencing the ship despite its best efforts to remain stationary.

There was a Wallstreet Journal Editorial board op-ed that came out either early today morning or late last night that basically called out the FCC and the Democractic majority lining pockets of their donors and playing politics in rescinding the Starlink grant for rural networking for being "insufficient and incapable", even though its been mission integral to assisting the survivors of Helene and Milton in North Carolina and Florida.

The timing of this and the New Yorker piece basically reeks of desperation of the current administration in trying to change the narrative to focus away from the fact that their actions were clearly malicious and an abuse of power, back towards "Musk is bad because Musk, and therefore all his other companies are evil because."

The tide is clearly turning in the public mind that perhaps, just perhaps, the present admin independent of what good or bad they've done, have clearly failed certain American citizenry interests to the point where lives may have been harmed or even lost, out of political lawfare and smearing.

The area impacted and washed away by Helene would have received some 20-25,000 Starlink terminals over several years. It's pointless to consider whether SpaceX would have delivered that by this time hurricance season or not, but its also true that rescinding of that agreement certainly made it impossible for SpaceX to deliver any terminals at all. And given all the devastation seen in the aftermath of the historic floods, it would have made a material impact positively more than the assistance SpaceX and others + government are providing now.

The country is pretty divided along party lines, and natural disasters is usually when people put politics aside and work together. But this is the first time where the political and lawfare consequences that usually are abstract and hard to make tangible, have become tangible. We have raw numbers that terminals would have gone there. We know that SpaceX and Elon reacted FIRST, and we also know there was an actual issue with coordination to the degree that Secretary of Transport did have to get on a call with Elon to resolve, which he admitted on a CNN interview in a muted way before going back to the admin talking points on misinformation. It's easy to gloss over, but clearly something happened to the degree that he had to step in and personally resolve in a way that otherwise would have never been resolved.

The biggest threat to democracy more than any populist, is when citizenry become distrustful of institutions to look out for their well being, engaging in politicking to suit their own interests. Ironically, in this, the two parties are the same, but real world consequences rarely align so openly and clearly as Starlink and Helene. It's a lightning in a bottle event that the Democratic party is clearly trying to combat as they have no real answer against it, and they're in the wrong about it. Time will tell if they succeed.

Starlink has like 200 D2C sats, the minimum would be 300 for constant coverage so they have spotty service now but its still the only general operational D2C system right now

most people only read headlines then jump to the comments. they're in it for infotainment and cheap drama. if you want to get the word out then you need reputable talking heads. these days those are streamers and youtubers, but most people dont pay atttention to spaceflight ones. you need a generalist who also covers spaceflight regularly, but spaceflight is too niche for generalists. its a chicken and egg thing.

Yes, but we need a pioneer to figure out how it works on Mars, with extremely restricted ingredients, and different G conditions. After a couple of experts figure out recipes Martian people vote best, they will work on designing the baking machines, and ramp in-situ production of the basic ingredients, which will mostly be synthetic and not real wheat. Some imported ingredients allowed at first, but not forever.

If this is true, they'll nail it first try methinks. Booster and Chopsticks are both seemingly designed to survive slight inaccuracies with booster position and velocity when coming down for landing. Arms aren't going to perfectly close right when the pins are above them, they expect different arm contact points, the sloped stringers indicate that its possible for the arms to "hug" the booster fairly early on and then the booster will slowly slide down until pin contact is achieved. If booster hardware is solid, I think they'll first try it.

remember that berger article about axiom being kill? the problem is that the economics for space stations dont add up. you need to put at least 7 paying customers on a short flight every month. you cant be sending 4 people up for a month. its not economic.

Unless the inside can spin freely of the outer shell there's zero chance that's the final design, the rotation would hell on those solar arrays also

I know the rotation axis, my issue with that render is that it places a new set of arrays in the middle that were missing from the first designs even then the arrays might shake themselves given that the move the centre of gravity slightly beyond the centre point

Dormf cares very much about optics and legacy, and progress in spaceflight is the sort of thing where his name would be recorded forever. He also likes having his knob slobbed by powerful men (in more ways than one I have my suspicions) and Elon is playing into it perfectly. I'm in a swing state and voting for him as a single issue voter (the issue is spaceflight)

Well as a simple rule, if the electricity is still on it's a nothingburger as that will be one of the first things to go during Carrington type event. Less obvious things will be people receiving random electrical shocks from objects and isolated reports of cattle being electrocuted by barbedwire fences.

what the fuck? Is that strong?

I'd also add random wildfires and pipeline explosions to the list.
>>

In some places the fences can stretch for tens of miles with three or four metal strands. One of the top ways cattle are killed by lightning is due to fences.

They've already said they've had few of the bot working continuously in the factory floor. What I want to see are how much more advanced the robots are now, although its only been few months since the last update. So I dont expect too much, but maybe we'll see more integration with voice/chat commands wit both car/bot

Transformers get fucked but even ordinary metal fences have induced electrical currents generated in them. Anything long and conductive like a pipeline or electrical transmission line will be affected with the effect increasing in proportion to its length.

So they will attempt booster catch this time. Any new goals for the upper stage? Or just a rerun of last time with the heatshield hopefully not eating itself.

you mean like one that is in this video? i don't know how they could make use of them in the first missions, unless they are placed directly in front of an assembly line. Perhaps they could be utilized for deploying things on the ground from the unmanned Starships, e.g. solar panels, but that might be cumbersome and take too much volume. I think Elon just wants to go all in, and wait for the first crew to start operating things such as the scouting rovers and ISRU plant.
