that only the very, VERY elite QB's should be paid a lot in the salary cap era. The list may literally be Brady, pre-2023 Mahomes, etc. They're just not worth it relative to adding several elite non-QB's, or even a dozen above-average guys to eliminate obvious weaknesses. It took years before coaches could accept basic statistical analysis clearly showing things like "you should go for it way more often on 4th down". Two thirds of old boomers could never accept it and they're gone. Remember that the NFL hasn't always been a "QB Uber Alles" league. The rule changes babying QB's and receivers made the pendulum swing too far and only now are teams finally realizing a solid game manager with a good supporting cast is better than an overpaid simp, 2 or 3 elite skill position players, and a roster with 1 or more glaring weaknesses due to lack of cash.
