The longest stage ever

Some funfact:

There was a solo breakaway of 330 km because they were forced to stop at the rail crossing, one rider was very sneaky, no one noticed him, he left the road, passed the railway and went back on the road to start his breakaway, they only realized it after a bit so he gained like 10 minutes

Cars at the time were so slow that they had to go full gas to stay with the riders (and they did like 25 km/h average)

Races at the time had control points in the cities so teorically you could pick the road, at the control point they do a sort of pit-stop for 3 minutes, they had to make a signature to confirm they reached the control point, then it was basically a refuel zone

Also the car following the race stopped to help a man stuck under his cart after a car had made his horse run wild

Girardengo won this stage with a solo attack from a small group in the final 50 km

Well, every group is a small group, more than half of the peloton was already DNF after 2 stages

how long does the train take to get to nice, an hour or so? not bad. yea id only take the train in morning/night for a couple days anyway, I'll look around but i think all the hotels will be booked closer in. As an american, taking a mountainous train ride sounds comfy. we dont have trains like you guys do.

>We have to accept race tactics and race situations, but sometimes you also need the balls to race, and unfortunately maybe Jonas didn’t have them today. But it’s no problem – the race is still very long, and I totally accept the reasons why he didn’t pull, why he didn’t race.
>Of course, Tadej and I both like to attack pretty far away from the finish, so we wanted to continue. Jonas is sometimes a bit more defensive, but we have to accept it. He will have all the good reasons to have raced like this, so I also completely understand why.

The time varies quite a lot depending on where you stop of course. If you go all the way to Entrevaux, that'll probably take 1h30; if you stay around Colomars it's more like 30 minutes. Then once you're in Nice you still have to travel a bit depending on your destination (although it can be only 15 minutes to the Promenade des Anglais).

Also the train won't really be in the mountains when it's relatively close to Nice (say >35 minutes away), it mostly stays in the Var river valley there. The problem with the Var area up to Saint-Martin is that it's quite industrial/commercial, without much to do or see.

As the others said, check the tyre. When you pull out a tube to fix a flat, remember the orientation relative to the valve, inflate it again once removed and find where the hole is. Then check the tyre at that spot where the hole was, squeeze it a bit like you're popping a zit to see if any glass/stone is hiding in there.
Sounds complex when written out, but pretty simple once you do it. Just boils down to checking the tyre
>>
>>142547178
Nice picks. I have a couple from there and they're pretty good. Not like modern race kit, but more of a relaxed fit I'd say. Got a set with bibs as well and they were pretty mid. Looks like they're getting them from Santini now as well though, so I'd expect those to be better. Think the ones I got were some no name rubbish. Worth looking out for if anyone considers that.

>Pellizzari
Alongside Georg Steinhauser (EF Education - EasyPost), he was the discovery of this Giro d'Italia: Giulio Pellizzari (VF Group - Bardiani CSF). The 20-year-old Italian from Le Marche rode up the last mountain of the day twice as a soloist in the final week, but was then overtaken by Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) before the summit both times - on Monte Pana in the Dolomites on the shortened 16th stage, and now also on Monte Grappa on the 20th stage.

If Pellizzari does it again next year, he will probably be wearing the Red Bull logo on his clothing. For what the Gazzetta dello Sport, among others, has already suspected, radsport-news.com has also learned from various sources in the past few days: The Tifosi's new Giro hero is set to ride for Red Bull - Bora - hansgrohe in the future, making him one of the German WorldTour racing team's first new signings for 2025.

However, according to UCI regulations, the racing team of manager Ralph Denk and Pellizzari himself as well as his agent around Pogacar manager Alex Carrera will not be able to officially confirm this until August 1st.

Give me a quick rundown bros: will Lapeira actually do something the coming week, or should I just cut my losses?

Debating whether to cut him or A. Yates from my team for Abrahamsen, who is a free 10-16 points (depending on how high he stays in points classement and assuming he keeps polkadots until stage 14) everyday

I feel like the odds of Yates doing something are slim too since he's full hjaelper now, but only 2 guys above him need to crack and then he's back in top 10 GC, which is also worth points

I already asked this but someone dismissed it as not happening.
When I was watching the tours around 2005-2011, the winner would sit behind his team always for 99% of the tour, gain time during TTs, and attack a couple of times when the finish line was at a long steep up hill. There he would gain his 1-5 minutes to win the race. The guys that used to attack on flat or hilly stages would win one stage. I thought this was because riding in a group, behind people is significantly easier than riding alone or at the front and of a small group. The people who made thee pulls during the flat or hilly stages, these aggressive guys who won stages, or the team helpers, would understandably be later tired and lose hours in the GC.
Now this year I see the yellow jersey guy attacking and pulling everyone behind him on flat or hilly stages, alone, like he was a helper or domestique trying to catch the gateway, or likeea local french guy would do to win a stage. I don't understand. Shouldn't he be absolutely knackered the next day? Why didn't Armstrong do this? Why was he seen with headwind, at the front, only at the TTs and riding up the hills that finished the mountain stages?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZWmYEUoweg heure des burgers
>>
>>142553943
To answer your question unironically, the guy in yellow right now is actually in the process of:
>The guys that used to attack on flat or hilly stages would win one stage. I thought this was because riding in a group, behind people is significantly easier than riding alone or at the front and of a small group. The people who made thee pulls during the flat or hilly stages, these aggressive guys who won stages, or the team helpers, would understandably be later tired and lose hours in the GC.
while Jonas's whole plan (which is why he's won the last two Tours) is:
the winner would sit behind his team always for 99% of the tour, gain time during TTs, and attack a couple of times when the finish line was at a long steep up hill. There he would gain his 1-5 minutes to win the race.
>>
>>142553943
polebert what you need to understand is the riders today are so fucking far ahead on EVERYTHING compared to 2005-2011 that peak Lance or peak Contador would get completely destroyed by Jonas or Pogi
and just in general the generation of rider we have now might be the best since the 1970's
Pogacar might be the best cyclist since Mercx and Jonas might be one of the best pure climbers to ever ride a bike.
>>
>>142554260
I respect pogie for not changing up how he rides, even if it hasn't worked the last two tours.
>>
>>142554260
In summary vingo slurps semen
>>
>>142554260
But he won't lose hours. He will lose a minute or two, or not, and maybe even win this way.

>>142554367
Only those two guys are? Or the entire peloton is?

My only explanation is that the average peloton rider is much crappier and cleaner than the 2005-2011 time. While the top guys pulling everyone behind them on flat or hilly stages are doped up to their gills with some worm shit no one else is on, so they can at the same tour, pull everyone on flat and hilly stages behind them, lap everyone on TTs and also run away by hours in the mountains. Something I haven't seen before ever in cycling.

>In a statement to the Austrian police, Primožič has given more information about the accident. "Jaka saw that there were problems with the rear wheel of Drege's bike," says Andreas Lidner of the Austrian police in an interview with the Norwegian VG .

>“Then something white came out of the tire,” Lidner may be referring to the sealant (a kind of milky substance) that squirts out of tubeless tires when you get a puncture. Then Drege fell off his bike, Primožič told police. The speed at that time was between eighty and a hundred kilometers per hour, according to the witness. Lindner: “Everything happened within a few seconds.”

A rest day in the Tour de France is not really a rest day for the riders, because in addition to the usual press conference, there is always some cycling to do, to loosen up the legs. At Soudal-Quick Step they did that in a striking German shirt.

Bicycle brand Specialized has been the regular supplier of bicycles to Soudal - Quick Step for a number of years . Because the American company is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, they wanted to do something special with the team.
For the training ride on the rest day, the team's familiar blue shirts were therefore exchanged for a black-red-yellow model that surprisingly resembles a German champion's jersey.
"The colours are a reference to Team Stumpjumper," says Jurgen Foré, COO of Soudal-Quick Step. "With that team they won a lot of mountain bike races back then and that later evolved into Team Specialized."
“Specialized is a very important partner for us. We also give them a lot back in the form of feedback and innovation.”

I think Vingegaard kind of perfectly epotimizes the Visma team's calculated strategy where they want to maximize their chances of winning and they aren't interested in entertaining or being clean

I was thinking Evenepoel and Pogacar, they are from the lineage of Hinault, Merckx, Anquetil, Coppi/Bartali. Riders who meant something to the sport and are still talked about a lot by people who saw them

What lineage is Vingegaard from then, I am thinking the likes of Indurain, Wiggins, Evans. Riders who definitely existed and won the tour which is fair enough but they aren't really allowed entry in the pantheon of ciclismo

Besides Evenepoel , Pogacar also took a little dig at Vingegaard. The Slovenian thinks that the Dane is only looking at him, while there are more competitors. “I certainly don’t only see Pogacar as an opponent. The entire top ten is an opponent. Yesterday we didn’t want to lose any time. Maybe other people don’t understand our tactics, but that’s their problem.”

How was your ride today berts? I did a 5min max effort to see where the form is right now, averaged 444W so 10W less than my PR, not bad at all. Maybe with better pacing it could have been slightly higher. Also testing W' and sprint max later this week, next week probably FTP / TTE testing.

Maybe the federation can play around some rules but in general you do have space constraints. Last time the netherland put a track rider in their RR team to save some space. Foss is also doing the RR for example, there are probably 10 riders more suited to that race at UNO-X

Lmao he really cant win with you people.
>Vingo ignores some ridiculous statement from another rider
>"God hes so boring, most boring rider in the world, no personality"
>Vingo dabs on a manchild incapable of understanding tactics, and does so with grace
>"He should've ignored it"

Pogi and Remco and speak like children. I'm loving Vismas tactic this year with their mind games. It's been clear from stage one that they're trying to rattle Pogi by constantly talking about how they expected to lose more time, how the stages fit him better etc. and he's clearly falling for it with his desperate attempts, and now the mask is even slipping in interviews.
>"Th-they only care about me! They're scared of me!"
kwab.

They have him riding exactly like he did in the previous two tours, chasing 3 seconds here, 5 seconds there. Him and Remco giving up yesterday simply because Jonas didnt pull was another win for Visma.
No idea why you people insist on championing two morons instead of appreciating an actual display of tactics. Jonas might've been unlikeable for the past two tours, but this tour he's chilling, he's laughing and he's destroying the other two in the mental aspect of the race.
>>
>>142561752
I do. But I really should go to Belgium one day. Its rent free
>>
I wonder what would have happened on yesterday's stage if Vingegaard wasn't in the race and it was just Evenepoel and Pogacar doing that attack, I can't imagine they would have been able to beat all those taaie klanten, oude krijgers and sterke beren that were in the front even if they had been in the break all day

>>142561849
Had Vingegaard said the line "They're afraid of me" like a 12 year old, you "people" would've laughed at him for years. It's embarrassing that you're supporting such a mental midget
>>
"I have a lot more confidence in myself this year. I'm enjoying how this Tour has gone so far. I'm just riding my own race."

"I take my hat off to what [Evenepoel] is doing in his first Grand Tour. It's nice to race against him. He's strong and aggressive and it's great that he goes all out when he can."

"Of course we didn't know exactly how Jonas would perform, but once he was on the startlist, you could already guess that he would be in good shape. The confirmation came quickly."
Does Vingegaard scare him?

"No, not really. I was more scared yesterday when Evenepoel attacked. I fear no one, but I saw how Visma-Lease a Bike was afraid of me during the gravel ride on Sunday. Jonas only focused on me."
"If they try to play mind games, it won't work. They're racing against me, but I'm used to that now. I just do my own thing."
