A lot of meme reasons here but the real reason is that no specific nation feels a connection to Chess to want to go through the effort of adding it while hosting the Olympics, or to pester the OIC/Host nation to do so which is even harder.

as much as I like chess, it's no sporta classical chess olympic tournament would take so much time out of the olympics that it is just not feasible plus it doesn't really fit with the "hype nationalistic" vibe of the olympicsBesides, we already know which names would end up on top.
