The real answer is after 92 (?) a huge amount of money was poured in from the federal government, especially with Sydney 2000 being recently awarded.It set up the AIS.Also helped that we had a comfortable anglo-saxon middle class and recent migrants from southern Europe and the Baltics.This was why the Socceroos probably should and could have made the semis of the 2006 World Cup (AIS wog kids).
