McTominay might be worth that much to Man United but I don’t think he is to anyone else. Good when you need a goal late in the game after the tactics have broken down. Not many teams looking to pay 30m+ for a starting midfielder that isn’t good at passing or dribbling, not a solid tackler, doesn’t win interceptions and is out of position often.
>>
>>142950752
Yes we do, we discussed them last night. But there isn't really much to discuss. They keep signing players but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, other than they are 'wonderkids' and 'Brazilian'.

just had a thought...

having an accurate way of describing age is non-trivial

like saying you are 18 years old in regular fashion, when i think about it, doesnt seem like a truly veridical way of describing age

for instance, this way assigns a zeroth year whne surelythat shpuld be first year

if we arent apeaking ordinally then i am not exactly sure what the literal meaning on 1 year old is ... that you have had 1 full year? maybe but that is still messy coz you got the other unaccounted months. Surely doing it ordinally (i.e. 2nd year) is a better description

maybe this is the logic of the koreaj system hence 2 years old after 24 hours. maybe its a better system after all
open to thoughts from others
>>
>>142951414
Well he was born in 1992 and that was in the 20th century, but it's 2024 and we're in the 21st century now, so according to the other anon he's either 200 years old or 2000 years old. Mad he's still playing at that age.

Pretty much every single mother I know use months for a kid's age if they're less than 12 months old. Sometimes even up to 24 months.
>>
>>142951476
well we use a retrospective viewpoint of time. we're talking about how many years you've experienced on the earth, from your perspective. the koreans are using their calendar as the perspective. it's about whether you value personal experience or not.
like, when we talk about babies in the west we talk about how many months old they are (up to about age 2-3 usually) because of how much development and change there are between the months. a 1 year old who's 12 months old is much different than a 1 year old whos 18 months old.
i don't know how they do that in korea, so maybe they don't.

They do the same thing with prison sentences, but it gets a bit weird because sometimes they'll say 60 months instead of 5 years. Usually once it was 2 years they'd say 2 years, but then it was 24 months and then 36 months started to creep in and now it's just mental.

Kek, I don't think I've seen a 60 month sentence so far. I know some articles interchange between years and months to make you think the sentence/whatever subject is longer or shorter cause you're likely only looking at the headline and moving on. There is some kind of psychology behind it I'm sure.

I've only seen it a few times tbf. Seen it again the other day though so it reminded me of it. You are right there is some kind of psychology behind it, but weirdly prisoners generally do theirs in months rather than years because it sound less. They definitely do it if they have months to go. Like you talk to someone and ask how long they have left and they'll say "26 weeks".

Their left side is terrible. Zinchenko can't defend (he is like a worse TAA, the guy should just play LW or midfield for fuck sake), Tierney is good but he plays 1min a year because he is always injured. Timber isn't even a LB and I dunno why they even signed him for that position (and he's dead anyway) so they need a LB and that guy is apparently left footed and is the type of player Arteta likes - technically gifted, forward thinking and able to defend and attack... but isn't particularly fast (he was but he ruptured his ACL at 16 iirc and he lost all his speed). He is basically left sided Ben White.

All their LBs are dead men walking and of varying quality. Now why they decided to buy another dead man walking to add to that list, I do not know. But they do need an LB they can rely heavily upon like they do with Ben White.
Arguably they need a younger Partey/Jorginho first though. Even before a striker.

I think the worst thing about Martial was the fact that he actually had the skill to be a world beater if he wasn't so injury prone/lazy. Reminds me of Berbatov a little, though worse. Shouldve sold him 2 seasons ago
>>142964435
>No way that Bayern fail to win nothing for the 2nd year in a row.
They just hired Kompany who literally has 0 qualifications for a job of that magnitude, it is very possible for them to go trophyless again if Leverkusen keep most of their pieces
>>
>>142964693
>Shouldve sold him 2 seasons ago
sadly impossible because of his massive wage, he signed a 5-year extension back in 2019 and things did look on the way up for him (Ole preferred to start him over Lukaku) so United board recklessly (as always) gave him a new long-term contract.
At first it kinda paid off because he was scoring nicely in 19/20 season (even though part of it had something to with the season being paused due to Covid and he used the vacant time to heal itself and managed to go on a run during Project Restart), but then it's reported Ole was forcing him to play through injury during that insane Project Restart schedule and since then he was permanently broken.
>>
>>142964693
If Kane carries on firing and they shore up their defence and improve their midfield (Olise is an improvement as is) then I really can't see them not winning something. I mean, it'd be funny if they didn't.

during covid there were tonnes of crypto scams where people would set up these altcoins, wait for people to start buying and trading it, and then flood the market with coins they were holding, taking money from the people stupid enough to buy it while driving the price into the ground.

Why would you extend at Everton who:
Are in yet another takeover drama now the last deal (lost count) fell through

Selling off their assets to try and meet PSR due to massive debts

Still haven’t finished the new stadium and the yanks who tried to takeover are now listed as creditors due to the loans that kept them going last year

Barely scraped relegation and are probably going to be in another relegation scrap

West Ham have agreed club + player deals to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, deal is close but not done. what the fuck is up with all these double barreled names for footballers, seriously
>>
https://x.com/BackseatsmanLFC/status/1816392201296826804?s=19

11 years ago arsenal bid £40m+1 for suarez

Pretty wild looking back, John Henry just outright publicly saying the contracts in football don't mean shit and they chose to ignore the clause

Wonder if it would play out the same way today if a club chose to ignore a release fee
>>
>>142970861
1. A trend about two decades ago was if you had a double-barrelled name, you looked/sounded fancy, so you're more likely to get a job.
2. People who have potential footballers want both of their surnames on the back of their kids' shirt. If Mr Smith and Mrs Archer have a kid they don't want Mr Smith getting the 'claim to fame'. So Smith-Archer.

I pointed out a year or so ago there is a footballer who has a quad-barrelled name. As in his first name is double-barrelled and so is his surname.
>>
>>142970921
Obviously, I should add, there has been quad barrelled before but it is more of a double barrelled double barrelled. Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker is one.
>>
>>142970921
>>142970971
Who do you think they're giving credit to with the first names? Their brother?
>>
>>142970921
Thank you this actually makes sense, I had always just assumed the reason is that they are from broken homes.
>>
>Brentford’s Igor Thiago suffered a meniscus injury during the Bees’ 5-2 victory over AFC Wimbledon.
>>
>>142970996
There are more reasons obviously. People have done it to prove they know who their fathers are as it is predominately with mixed race/blacks as you've probably noticed. Can be legal things too. It's dumb. If a double-barrelled kid has a kid with another double-barrelled and they keep the name gimmick it becomes dumb. So Mr Smith-Archer and Mrs Gate-Gayle will have a kid that is Smitharcher-Gategayle. It's stupid and dumb.

>>142970996
so traditionally in the UK it is a sign of two wealthy families marrying each other and one of them wanting their children to have a proper claim to their extended families estates when people up the chain die and whatever, especially when there's no son in the family and only daughters.
obviously now in the modern era where its really easy to keep information, either digitally or centrally with multiple copies within the state itself, so this kind of thing isn't really needed any more, but now it's not really done for that it's done for other reasons. but like 100+ years ago it was incredibly easy to lose a birth certificate and records like that went missing (or were destroyed) all the time, so you needed something consistent across your life that proved part of your lineage, because you know if your mum died before your grandfather or something you didn't want to get iced out the will when your grandfather actually dies because he now just rejects you as family and your mum isn't there to inherit it first.
>>
>>142971330
Mate there are loads of reasons why people use two names. I'll list them because you're a sped.
>Cultural and Social Influences
Double-barreled names are often seen as a way to combine or preserve family names or lineages. In some cases, parents choose to give their children double-barrelled names to honour both sides of the family.
>Desire for Individuality
Some parents opt for double-barrelled names to give their children a distinctive or unique identity. In a competitive field like professional football, having a memorable name can help players stand out. Which is why a name like Traore or Diaby will get a lot of hits when searching but Traore-Diaby would not.
>Influence of Celebrities and Public Figures
The practice of having double-barrelled names has been popularised by celebrities and public figures, leading to its adoption by a wider audience, including young athletes. Which again links to other reasons.
>Legal Considerations
Parents may choose a double-barrelled name for legal or administrative reasons, such as to ensure that both parents' surnames are included. This helps when moving nations if you follow your kid to another club in another nation.
>Fashion and Trend
Naming trends, like other aspects of culture, can change over time. Double-barrelled names may have become more popular in recent years as a fashion trend... Why you ask? Because footballers have them. It's a cyclic process.

You going 'it's their surname and they want it on the back' is baffling because no shit it is their surname, but the reason why their parents have given the surname to the kid is listed above. If the parents have a double barrelled name then it goes back to whenever their fucking parents gave them that. Why are you a mong?

>'We've seen other leagues across Europe play competitive games elsewhere. All 32 NFL teams have played in London, all of them have had a great experience. We have some of the top baseball teams playing in London.

>'There are lots of obstacles, but I think that's the way it's going. It's very important to take the fans with you. We don't want fans missing out on more than one or two games a season in their home stadium.'

>'When you look at the way the Premier League works, a lot of the money the clubs receive comes from TV rights,' he added.

>'The key thing for our fans is to make sure our fans don't lose out. To make sure the games are in the right time zones, that the players are looked after when they come back.

.'One of the things we learnt from American Football is that often when the players go back the next game is an issue due to time zones and diet.'

I didn't like Khan regardless but this lowers my opinion of him even further.

its probably a Quid pro quo favour for NFL games being brought to London. I very much doubt Khan is so dumb he doesn't realise, shilling for PL games to be played in Murica won't exactly be a PR vote-winner at home.
>>

>Quid pro quo favour for NFL games being brought to London
Except Khan doesn't have a FUCKING SAY in that. They've been doing NFL games over here for nearly a decade. Fucking Spurs built their stadium SPECIFICALLY with hosting NFL games in mind to make them more money (also did they even sell their naming rights yet?) so Khan doesn't get a say in any of this. Lord Mayor of London is the important guy anyway. Khan is just a fuckwit and I hope people slaughter him. Khan just knows he is in a political cage and wants to break out by losing the next election so he can run for Labour leadership because Labour is a month into running the country and is already building the gallows while Corbyn drinks his champagne and starts making breakaway parties while bragging about fucking Dianne 'I can't do simple maths and you're racist for telling me the definition of racism and FUCK JEWS TOO' Abbott.

The only way this could be a quid pro quo is that London was getting a deal to create the London Redcoats, the old 'fan name' of a hypothetical NFL team based in London, designed specifically to get their arse raped by New England Patriots.

>spurs fans are desperate for the club to sign eze
Why are Spurs fans so retarded?
Crystal Palace want £60m up front, he's 26 and never been a world-beater. Nothing more than a decent average player for a midtable club; how many more times to Spurs need to be scammed into this type of transfer before they learn?

If you're a top 6 club and looking to take the next step, you should be looking to sign someone akin to Sadio Mane circa 2016 (Southampton to Liverpool). He was a far better player than Eze is and will ever be. If you can't find a player with those credentials, then back your academy star Mikey Moore.
>>
>>142984169
Without a time machine or being blinded by scouse delusion who would you say they sign then, out of interest.
>>
>>142984216
Nobody.
Tottenham have one of the best young players in the world for that LW position, Mikey Moore. Give him an extended run in the team.
Tottenham are historically way to willing to buy shit players from other clubs and way too reluctant to give game time to good academy prospects. What has this philosophy returned? Jack shit.

Postecoglou has played Moore in the pre-season games, but out of position on the right to accommodate shit players like Werner and Solomon on the left, and he STILL outperformed them both.

If they are going to sign any winger for that kind of money, Pedro Neto makes more sense because he can play inverted on the right, and Wolves are willing to accept a bid in installments. He's injury prone but he's better than Eze and doesn't have an english tax.
>>
>>142982742
He is but he only has 1 year left on his contract and is rejecting new offers. Villa probably asked for some wording in a clause to be changed rather than simply saying no deal.
>>
>>142982742
>this gonna be a whole new kind of shitshow lol.
Yeah kinda noticed this when playing Wrexham, his position was a CM in 343. My guess is that Reece's body just can't keep up with the physical demand of being a fullback hence repeating injuries so now he's being put centrally because the expectation that he won't need to do a lot of sprint playing there.

The best way to ruin Moore’s career would be to play him into the ground at 16. Barca can take the risk because they always have another young player to throw in the blender. Spurs can’t.
>>
>>142984362
>Barca can take the risk because they always have another young player to throw in the blender
What a nonsense reason.

Yamal was good enough to play at the level, simple as that.
Whether or not Moore is good enough is yet to be decided, but he should still be given a shot. He is clearly above the level of all the youth divisions and has already been given sub appearances in the Premier League towards the end of last year. Borussia Dortmund made him a big offer, a club with a taste for playing english teenagers in their first team.

Historically Tottenham send this type of player on loan to Plymouth or Leyton Orient or Milwall or MK Dons, and that's the last you'll ever hear of them.

>Ansu Fati - age 21 - games missed with injury 120 - permanent hamstring and knee problems
