so this is the first Olympics not on at a stupid time for us (like Japan 2020), where we don't have free coverage for all sports. (apparently it's about 250 hours total sport for the whole Olympics available for free, compared to 3800 hours on pay TV). i.e. the Olympics will no longer have cultural relevance in the UK from now on. random sports getting traction because it's "just on" and people can stumble on it, will no longer be a thing.

has this been the case for years and years elsewhere? i know Americans have bitched about their coverage since the invention of spee.

sports coverage in general gets worse every year

Don't you have eurosports since brecsit?

You can see any event for £3.99 through discovery+, which to be fair is pretty decent. The fact that BBC weren't even willing to pay this given we literally pay £13 a month on the loicense fee is shocking.

yeah it's like the world cup and rarely on at a convenient time for us. furthermore, they often only broadcast events where Americans do well so you kinda know what's going to happen.

anyway, it's only $8 for Peacock (the NBC streaming service).

it's decent if you care enough to begin with. who in the UK was paying to watch Sky Brown in the skateboarding? who was paying to watch the Scottish women in the curling? who would have paid to watch Eric the Eagle?

it has to be free if you want any cultural relevance. look at cricket. everyone in the country could name players who played in the mid 2000s for England. no one outside of actual cricket nerds could name players in 2024.

Sob stories that only Karens enjoy hearing about.
Yes, your millionaire upbringing was terrible, with that papercut you got in third grade when filling out a gymnastics registration form. Luckily you over came that adversity to make it to the Olympics!

last time we had free coverage of olympics was london 2012 via the EBU, eurosport bought the rights to the olympics ever since but they are a webtv and smart tv cloud service (which always sucks) and no more than a few people have that
