Yeah it's the prefectural title games. The winner goes to Koshien. Think of it like a cross between high school title games and conference championships in March Madness for those of us in the US.

The main tournament starts in about a week or so (August 4 US time I believe.)

The games listed on the OP should be live and started by now :) (with the exception of .>toinwinslol - Riseisha.

Also, there's another set of decent semifinals in East Tokyo tonight...

>East Tokyo Semis (東東京)
>Semifinal #1 (Live now)
帝京 - 東京
Teikyo - Tokyo High (If you wondered there was one lel)

Teikyo is an historic power from East Tokyo that has been going on hard times since about 2006 or 2010, depending on who you ask. They've won this summer tournament twice (1989, when they've only conceded one run the entire tournament, and in 1995.)

They've also won Senbatsu a further three times, nothing later than that 1995 triumph though.

>Semifinal #2 (about 10:30 PM ET / 3:30 UTC)
関東第一 - 二松學舎大付高
Kanto Daiichi (a.k.a. Kanto Ichiko, purple kanji school) - Nishogakusa (green kanji school, Seiya Suzuki's alma-mater)

Here's the link for the games:

They already played and won. They got their final tomorrow night at 9 PM Eastern / 6 PM Pacific. The second semifinal is on now... Gakuhou Ishikawa, who were at Senbatsu a few months ago, plays in about 20 minutes.

Hokuriku and their nice unis are three outs away from back-to-back appearances.

Kendai has qualified for Koshien! They'll be together for the summer tournament in about a week's time. Beat Maebashi Shogyo 5-1 just now. Thought it was going to be tighter based on Kendai's near colossal chokejob the other night.
>>
>>143027563
Tsurugi Kehi has them loaded with 2 outs. Grand Slam will give them the lead.
>>
>>143027418
Thanks non-ABG anon. Your comments and insight in this Koshien thread are ABG worthy.
>>
>>143027755
Thanks anon for your high praise. I still have a ton of work to get to were ABG is at imo.
>>
2 outs from Manfredball extras in Chiba... Runners will start on 1st and 2nd in the 10th if Kizarazu Sohgoh doesn't walk it of atm.

They're playing at the NPB's Marines' Stadium btw.

The Kochi title game should start within a half-hour. Kochi plays Meitoku Gijiku (the ones in kanji unis), the two perennial powers in that prefecture.

Kochi's band is known to play some good numbers.

Extras in Gifu as well atm.
Semi-perennial qualifiers Prefectural Gifu Shogyo is trailing Gifu Johoku, 6-5, in the 11th atm.

Have any made it in previous years?
>>
missed call on that throw down
>>
>>143028280
Kurume commercial made the final in 1962, which was our best ever result
the prefecture has won it but the teams that did so were from Kokura
>>
>>143028280
Yeah. Nishi Nippon Tandai Fuzoku won it all back in 1992, thanks to their ace pitcher, Morio.

Kyushu Kokusai Daigaku Fuzoku (a.k.a. "Kyukoku"), made the quarterfinals in Senbatsu two years ago but have disappointed in the summer tournament.
>>
>>143028443
Didn't they make the semifinal in the 80's or that was Kokura Commercial?
>>
If you're talking about the overall field, as of this moment a handful of schools that played in last year's Koshien have clinched their tickets back.
>Hokuriku (as of a few minutes ago), >Hanamaki Higashi (Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi's alma-mater)
>Kamimura Gakuen (semifinalists last year and looking good atm)
>Meihou (if their game has finished),

>Koryo (if their game's final, should be one of the favorites based on name alone imo)

If they win their finals tomorrow:
>Nichidai- San (traditional power, like Koryo, should be appointed as one of the favorites by name alone imo)

>Chiben Gakuen (Nara, a.k.a. Nara Reverse Carp) -- Another traditional power, although not as successful as Nichidai-San, Koryo, or their sister school in Wakayama. Already beaten Tenri in the quarterfinal but they've got the other name school, Nara Uni's Attached High School, tomorrow. Bit of a tricky one there imo.

>Souseikan have to win right now and tomorrow to make it back-to-back appearances but they're playing Nagasaki Nichidai I believe if they make it to the final. Very tough task imo.

>Schools qualified from a two-year absence
>Tsuruoka Higashi (Yamagata) -- watch out for these guys... The Japanese vlogisphere and pundits have been hyping these guys up for some time. Could be a dark horse-type team. Were an "alternate" for Senbatsu this year.

>Shimonoseki Kokusai (a.k.a. Shimoseki International) (Finalists two years ago after beating Ohmi and >toinwinslol in the quarters and semi respectively) -- Can never count these guys out as we saw two years ago. Probably will have the most colorful uniforms at Koshien

>Kyoto Kokusai (Kyoto International, a.k.a. The Kyoto Koreans) -- Another school you cannot count out. BTFO'd Heian last night in their semifinal.. Have Kyoto Gaidai Nishi in the final tomorrow (one of the better games... both schools made Senbatsu in March)

>Kogagakuin Tochigi
>>
catcher's worst nightmare
>>
>>143028564
Kogagakuin Tochigi should be favored tomorrow since Sakushin Gakuin decided to play below the level of their opponents yet again tonight kek... They'll be playing Ishibashi, a Senbatsu "21st Century School" last year. That'll be cool if they pull it off imo.
>>
Looks like the East Tokyo final will be Teikyo - Kanto Ichiko unless Nishogakusha can pull of a crazy rally with the outs they have left.
>>
>>143028542
Indeed, made the 1983 semifinal. Also made it back to the tournament and round 3 in 1985.
>>
>>143028564
Souseikan will play Seihou, the 2009 Senbatsu champs (they beat Yusei Kikuchi and his Hanamaki Higashi squad to win that title), if they can hold on to this lead.

What about that "big" semifinal? Just mercy rule them lel.

Onto Tokai tomorrow night then...
>>
>>143028564
Eimei (Kagawa) has clinched back-to-back berths tonight. Beat Takamatsu Commercial in a good one. Don't know if they're as good as last year's squad but we'll see.

Toyama Shogyo (Toyama) went the hard way to clinch their back-to-back bid. Scored 5 runs in their half of the 8th to complete the comeback.

Konan (Okinawa),and Arita Kogyo (Saga) have clinched their second berth in three years. Konan could be a sneaky challenger as they always are (if they don't blow 5-run leads like last time they were at Koshien lel.)

The Komatsu Ohtanis are making their second appearance in 4 years.
>>
>>143029057
Officially mercy-ruled. 12-2 final after 5.
