>"As a driver, I had won championships and victories, but the results were not as good as I had hoped for after moving to Nakajima Racing.
>Also, as my career progressed, I lost more and more to teammates and other people, so I never lost confidence, but I always felt that there was a gap between what I wanted and the expectations of my team and those around me (in terms of results)."
>"I've been told to keep it a secret... but Nakajima (General Manager Satoru) told me first that it would be this year. This doesn't mean I'm ending everything (my active career with Formula), so I don't want people to have a negative impression of me as a racing driver going forward... but it's really about my health .
>I'm worried about my health, so Nakajima said, 'How about you retire this year?' and 'Please retire.'"
>"I had been thinking about when to retire for the past few years, but I realized that it's not easy to quit doing what you love and what you want to do. In that sense, Nakajima was concerned about my health and told me to 'hand it over to the next generation.'
>I'm really grateful to Nakajima for giving me the push I needed when I couldn't decide when to retire myself, and I think those 15 years have been truly fulfilling."
>"As for his family, they weren't that surprised. They seemed to be somewhat relieved. While they wanted him to win, I think deep down they also wanted him to return home safely, so I think they were relieved that one of those burdens had been reduced. I think there is some sadness for them, including his family, but I think the biggest thing is that they feel relieved."

Fuck, Naokibros... I think his big crash last year had a Felipe Massa esque impact on him. He's my favourite driver when it comes to the Nip racing scene and I'll miss seeing him around in SF

You say that but look where Logano is relative to his average finishing position because the point gaps are bigger at the front than the back. It just massively punishes missing races because it was scaled for 54 car fields and you got so many points for finishing last in smaller ones (the difference between 1st and 8th once 43 became standardized) while in the current system the difference between 40th and DNS is only 1 position.

One point per position was only put in because stage points and the memeoffs are such incomprehensible clusterfucks they needed to simplify scoring so you could look at the live point gaps and know how many positions they were worth. It actually rewards position differences in the top 11 less than the old one, and the final version of the Latford points had proportionally the same bonus for winning compared to 2nd/3rd the current system does.
>>
>>145590010
Point distribution. The current non-playoff format includes stage points - minus playoff round eliminations and playoff round point resets. The Winston Cup format didn't include playoff points or stage points. The only bonus points you got was 5 for leading the most laps, 5 for leading a lap.

If NASCAR was smart we could have a tweaked Winston Cup format with many more bonus points for each win and most laps led per race. >>145589976 is right, the only flaw it had was not awarding race wins enough. It was possible for runner up driver to match race winner with same amount of points riding around 2-10. That's partly how Kenseth won it in 2003.

The regular season still matters and can give you a comfy cushion to advance in playoffs, but if you win 3 of the 10 playoff races like Logano did it doesn't really matter what you do in the regular season. Say what you want about him, but they're very good at the tracks that matter.

Is there any modern active touring car championship which uses the classic 'murican 60-80s muscle cars and isn't touring car masters? Since I've accepted that barring drastic changes to NASCAR leadership, the playoffs are here to stay, here's changes I think could improve it. Regular season is all points, no win and you're in. Joey winning the championship was not all that bad compared to Harrison Burton making the playoffs. And the regular season points champ should absolutely matter, they should get an auto-berth to the championship 4. I'd rather the playoffs just be points as well, but if they kept cutoff races and win and you're in it'd be okay. At least this way the 16 best teams will be competing each year.
>>
>>145615433
You could even give others byes and treat lower scored teams like wild cards who have to compete against each other in early rounds while the better teams prepare for later races.
>>
>>145615433
It should be 1-3-3-3 with the last 3 races being at Martinsville, charlotte and the glen to decide the championship on points. Regular series champ gets automatically promoted to the championship round with 15 extra playoff points like it is now

>16-13th get eliminated in one race (top 16 includes regular season champ)
>12th-9th get eliminated
>8th-5th get eliminated
>whoever gets most points in the championship 4 round wins the championship, with regular season champ entering with at least 5015 points and other 3 drivers having 5000 points

Owners championship should be year long though

It's pret good racing, unfortunately they don't separate the races anymore so you have to find the races in the 8 hour live stream. Here are a couple older races I found on YT

>how much do tickets cost
IDK about the entire weekend, but the one day Cup tickets are about $150. You want to sit medium high up in the stands and on the start/finish line. If you sit too close, you won't be able to see the far side of the track very well and too high up makes everything far awy. Also it's a mostly friendly crowd. IDK if you know it or not, but it is quite common to just make unprompted small comments to strangers here. Sometimes, it's as simple as
>I like your XYZ team hat
>Thank you
but it can also be
>I like your XYZ team hat
>Thank you, I like that ABC team shirt. Do you want a beer? We have sandwiches too. You have an interesting accent, where are you from?
And suddenly, you have an IRL race fren. So don't be afraid to talk to people, especially at the race. Another good way to start a conversation is to ask race related questions even if you know the answer.
>How did the Toyotas do in qualifying?
But maybe that's just normal social skills.
As far as what races to see, I'd say Daytona or Taladega since those are the fastest and I think seeing them flat out would be peak NASCAR. I've only ever gone to Bristol, but that was plenty rowdy. I would highly recommend renting a scanner and head set or bringing a HAM radio so you can listen to the announcers and even the team radios. You are going to want ear protection no matter what because NASCAR is the loudest race I have ever been to.

What particular shitshow are you referring to.
I dont say Liberty did not made anything good (F1TV is a great thing for example, although it was already in conceived and in development when they bought the series)
But they came in into the sport in 2017, the most glaring issues in F1 either solved by themselves with time (like the slump in viewership bc of merc domination) or by FIA rectifying it (cost issues -> cost cap)

Just did it and you are full of shit, basically if you look at the 2016-17 content for example (pre liberty) it was not as different or as bad as you try to paint it, the bullshit filler content was already there like the secret santas and shit as well
please refresh your browser, we are not in 2021 any more.
WRC started producing additional content in the recent years, although in lower volume.
Okay there is no secret santa bullshittery, but I bet there will be this year as they even started to do grill the grid type shits
Not mentioning they started to do technical things and Julien mentioned there is a push within wrc to do more analysis type things, and also one of the big streaming services is lamenting an idea of a DtS type series

A series which would really benefit from liberty buying its commercial rights is WTCR
>>
>>145625069
I'm not talking about secret santa shit, there is nothing between watching 1-3 minute highlights on youtube or 20 hours of rallytv during rallies which is completely unacceptable, they already put up the 30 min highlight package on red bull tv there is zero reason not to put that shit on youtube instead of 1 minute long "highlights", everything should be on youtube except the live stages
>>
>>145625197
dirtfish almost does a better job at covering wrc events than the wrc itself, the promoter should have bought up that whole team years ago, rallytv focuses entirely on what happens on the stage at a given moment and almost nothing on what happens before or after, they treat a 3 day rally as if its a long ass f1 race

>regular season champ gets 35 bonus playoff points
>2nd gets 25, 3rd gets 20, 4th gets 10, 5th gets 8, 6th gets 5, 7th-10th gets 3, 11th-15th gets 2, 16th gets 1
>the round of 16 is just one race, rounds of 12-champ 4 are 3 races, who ever has the most total points (playoff AND regular points) wins the championship over those last 3 races
>the reset at 2000 (plus playoff points) for round of 16, 3000 for 12, 4000 for 8, 5000 for champ 4

So if you win 2 races and have regular season championship and won 5 stages in the regular season you start the playoffs with 2035, which would carry you into the 4th race of the playoffs which would be the round of 8 (assuming you DNF every race and score 0 stage wins) but you’d still have to not suck to go to the championship 4 round

No it's just the single street circuit that's used for F1 and its support races every year.
They were intending to build a motorsports hub beside the airport (FIA Grade 2) many years back but nothing came of it

Yeah, even in the early 2000s it was a pain in the ass because it was on multiple networks and sometimes tape delayed for weeks and shown at 5 am. I remember having to watch le Mans 24 hours on multiple TV networks and then switch to the PC or maybe just have to miss huge chunks of it. The Spa and Nurburgring ring 24 hours and Super GT were justshit you read about in magazines. Even now, it's not exactly easy even with the concerted efforts of the most based and comfy community on the internet. I mean, without the streams you would have to have at least basic cable and Peacock or a bunch of subscriptions. I don't even know how to watch WEC on normie TV. We are so damn lucky, it's unreal.

Toyota opts for stability with 2025 driver line-up

So, only 1 car? I thought that with the WEC withdrawal, they would run 2 cars in IMSA. Oh well, I really like the car and I'm glad Grosjean has a seat. He might have finally found a series that he's good at. He set the fastest race lap at Petit and he didn't bin it.

Kek, I forgot they put the customs list on the front. I didn't mean for you to see that, but I'm NGL, I just kinda made those numbers up because it's been a month since I boxed it up. It's a ton of shit though. Maybe even more that 50.
>Holy shit mate, how the fuck
On the Friday before the race there is a mandatory drivers signing where all the drivers sit at a table and you can walk up ask simple questions and have them sign stuff. They all have some kind of full color glossy card or something for them to sign. Even if I didn't get them signed, I still tried to get the cards. So I couldn't get the AO Rexy card signed because I wouldn't have gotten anything else, but I got the card. It's all just basic PR stuff. The entire thing is an automobile advertisement, after all.
Plus, I'm a pro at this hustle, I've been doing it for a long time. Pic related is from 2010, I think and my first ever race was 2005 Petit (I miss the GT1 Corvette like you wouldn't believe.) I did miss most of the DPi era, but I'm so back.
>He's staying around in IMSA but in LMP2
Oh yeah, I forgot.

Oh, cool. I tried to book the Super 8 (shitty American hotel chain) a year before the last IndyCar at downtown Nashville and it was like $350 a night which is 3 times the normal rate and it is a pretty crap hotel.
Well, anyway, hove fun an avoid the slots and sluts!
