What he exposed is that his fighting style doesn't work for anybody except for young him. Always advancing, squaring up, using slip and weave as your primary defense as a heavyweight. The only reason it worked was because young Mike Tyson was so quick and had so much stamina that he could dodge and counter any punch thrown at him, and he was so fucking powerful he could knock out anyone.When you lose that power and speed, you have no pros and a ton of cons to his fighting style.

I've been rewatching Mike's pre-prison fights for the umpteenth time and he had some really bad habits despite his reputation for being a great young boxer.He would open quick and pound his opponent who would generally start holding late in the 1st round. Instead of pounding the body with his free hand, Mike would just dance with the opponent and take a break himself. This drove Rooney nuts and he would holler at Mike to hit while tied up, but Mike really didn't do that.When Tyson faced a boxer who didn't tie him up but had a really great chin, like Ribalta, Mike would get tired by the 4th round and not really set himself up to punch at full power. Not many other fighters learned from that because who the hell wants to get pounded for four rounds?There is a baseless knock that Tyson dodged fighters. He honestly never did. He fought every alphabet champ in the unification series and every contender after that, both before and after prison. He was also a tremendous puncher and very quick but would tire quickly. He was a great defensive fighter up to age 21.He was overrated but not by much.
