Will Smith is one of their best hitters, but he can't catch every day and isn't even that great of a defensive catcher, without Ohtani he'd be a great DH candidate and his hitting stats would be even better than already were, but instead Smith can't contribute to the team as much and can't even qualify for offensive rewards because he can only play catcher and ends up not being a qualified hitter. Days where a position player COULD have a rest day/DH day are not possible anymore because Ohtani HAS to be in the lineup every day, which also leads to those players pushing themselves more and injuring themselves more often. I don't think Muncy would be on the IL right now if he was allowed to rotate between DH and 3rd rather than having to be an infielder every day
