The thing about Hoshoryu today is that it felt like he was scared of a broken-down Wakatakakage, who desperately needed a win to avoid a makekoshi. I like Hoshoryu, but that made him look like a bitch.

Hope Onosato wins tomorrow.

>>
>>151016701
Maybe that's part of why he's reticent in sloppa. Talking to the camera guy is probably pretty annoying knowing that the fact that you've been stuck on 7-8 forever might come up at any time.
>>
>>151017378
I really do think he did it to completely humiliate WTK for his failure to make Ozeki. If henkas were automatic wins you'd see a lot more of them.
>>
Kotozakura is such a useless sack of shit
>>
>>151018189
If Zak had any brains he'd be surgery right now getting his knee fixed. He's in good standing, so get it fixed, eat the kadoban, and come back in January able to fight properly.
>>
>>151017947
That and, against Nephew, you should really see it coming. I read a statistical analysis from last year showing that he pulls a henka more than anyone in the division. More than Abi or Chiyoshoma. Just because he’s a Yokozuna doesn’t change his style.

For his part, Wakanohana mentioned in the broadcast that he decided to stop henka’ing altogether once he got promoted. Sharp criticism from the easygoing Wakanohana.
>>
>>151018928
Waka was a mediocre zuna anyway. His path was easier than most because he didn't have to go through Takanohana unless a playoff forced it. Otherwise he got to watch his brother hand people losses, letting him rise through the ranks easier than most would have it. It's like if Meisei was in the joi right now. Instead of Hoshoryu he'd have to fight *checks notes* Ichiyamamoto.

Hosh also isn't the henka king right now. That would be the most desperate man in makuuchi, Asakoryu.
>>
>>151019083
Being a mediocre Yokozuna doesn’t disqualify the validity of his comments, man, you know that.
And it’s not like Hoshoryu has exactly been the second coming of Asashoryu. The most impressive thing about Hoshoryu is his ability to dispense gold stars.
>>
>>151019083
Waka won 5 cups in an era with Akebono and his brother winning everything in sight.
Does anyone truly believe that Hosh will end his career with that many cups? Between Onosato, future yokozuna Dan, and Hosh’s own inability to consistently beat maegashitters, I’ll honestly be shocked if he finishes even with three cups.
>>
>>151019295
>Hosh’s own inability to consistently beat maegashitters
The guy was unironically injured you numpty. Looking at completed basho Onosato gives out gold stars at almost twice the rate of Hosh.

I'm just happy we're getting such a good final tomorrow. Hoshoryu has to win twice, but has a dominant lead in the head-to-head. If anyone can do it, it's him.
>>
>>151019295
Yes. I berieve.
>>
After Onosato getting a freebie on 14th day who gives a fuck if Hoshoryu henkas Wakatakakage who was on his way to mk anyway
>>
>>151019357
Oops I mean Onosato gives out gold stars at OVER double the rate of Hosh. It's 5 versus 2.
>>
>>151019426
>It's 5 versus 2.
Coincidentally, that will be their yusho totals on Monday morning.
>>
So, the sanyaku are pretty much settled for November, right?

Y: Onosato Hoshoryu
O: Kotozakura
S: Aonishiki Oho

K: ?? Wakatakakage or Kirishima if they finish 7-8? Hakuoho if he can manage an 8-7? Takanosho with a 12-3?
>>
>>151019605
Aonishiki vs. WMH seems to be an "earn your komusubi" match for WMH.
>>
>>151019605
>Y: Onosato Hoshoryu
They'll be both forced to retire after they attempt to henka each other in the playoff and simultaneously trip and fall out of dohyo
>>
>>151019605
It's too results dependent. If both Sekiwake go 7-8 they can easily both drop half a rank giving us

S: Dan WTK
K: Kirishitma Oho

Or they could drop a full rank giving us

S: Dan Oho
K: WTK Kirishitma

The real problem happens if both go 6-9 because even if both Hakuoho and WMH win tomorrow they'll only math at M1. If all four lose then there's going to be a completely dead Komusubi slot. WTK can maaayybbee drop to K1w following Takayasu's example (yes, I know, Takayasu technically dropped to #8 and WTK would be #7), but what do you do about K1e? Do you really put Hakuoho in the Sanyaku for an 8-7? Would you give WMH K1e for an 8-7 at M4w if Hakuoho lost? Hell, even just Kirishitma going 6-9 would cause a lot of head scratching about what to do.

I imagine the JSA are praying the Sekiwake win tomorrow.
>>
Wakatakakoga is the best recent /sumo/ meem.
>>
I've got it, the solution to the Sekiwake problem. Just demote Kotozakura.
>>
Sanyaku is such a barren wasteland if Oho in his current form can just fumble into a spot.
>>
>>151019952
yup, just 3 real sanyaku
>>
12-3 Takanosho would solve some of the Sanyaku troubles, but problem with it is he's facing WTK tomorrow so him winning would create the very problem we're trying to solve.

S: Dan Oho
K: Takanosho WTK

In all likelihood the results will allow for a fine banzuke, but there's an outside shot at absolute carnage and someone being hugely overpromoted.
>>
>>151013014
onosato winning would not be a clown basho lmao
>>
I haven't seen a good WTK henka in a while. What are the odds he busts one out against Takanosho to try and preserve the sanyaku spot after what happened last night?
>>
>>151021052
he'll probably only drop to Komusubi even with a 6-9
Aonishiki and Oho will move up to the Sekiwake slots
then they just have to figure out what to do with the last Komusubi slot
>>
>>151021093
If WTK goes 6-9 that means Takanosho goes 12-3 at M7 because they're facing each other, and is well over the math for Komusubi. Kirishitma could just go 7-8 and take a Komusubi slot too.
>>
>>151021127
the banzuke makers do so much weird shit these days that nothing is guaranteed even with the correct math
>>
>Be Hiradoumi
>Make Komusubi
>Go 10-5 on debut
>Stay Komusubi

>Be Oho
>Be M2w
>Go 9-6
>Become Sekiwake for the second time, having never even been Komusubi once

Onosato joined professional sumo in May 2023 and made his top division debut January 2024. He's been a Yokozuna since May 2025 and has 4 top division titles under his belt. He's favourite to win the current tournament.

Japanese are way way way more reserved and stoic than the rest of the world, especially us westerners. The way they carry themselves at work, at school, out and about at restaurants and coffee shops, when they record youtube videos, even when they go to their Disney/Universal theme parks. I've yet to see Japanese people have big melties over absolutely nothing like we do in the west. They also don't do public displays of affection.

The last time I saw a Japanese person cry was that apologizing CEO who got memed on for crying too much like 10 years ago.

Look dude, Onosato is going to win this. He's beaten Hoshoryu when it matters before, and this time he has two chances to do it. His win here will take his average wins in the last 3 basho up to 13, well beyond the 12 win expectation of his rank. The guy is killing it.
>>
>>151023766

>>
I'm fine with either winner, as long as Ono doesn't just win effortlessly within half a second. Playoff would be great.
>>
>>151023943
I fully expect a three second win for Onosato with little effort. Hosh will try a normal tachiai, Onosato will hit him way too hard, then the long arm thrusts will begin, Hosh will never touch his belt again, and it'll be over.
>>

He did it because:

Look up how many yokozuna Hoshoryu has ever gone through and get back to me.

As if being a fragile & easy injured sissy justifies it all.
If thats the case then why is Tommy's consecutive appearances record even noticed let alone respected? Between Kakuryu, Terunofuji, Hakuho's last half decade and Kisenosato I'm kind of sick of yokozunas who make the rank and then abuse the privileges to take six months a year off. Its always suspicious as fuck how none of them had substantial injury issues before making the rank that allows them to take infinite vacations without losing their salary.
Horseshitryu is off to a terrible start in that respect.

Onosato has already guaranteed himself most top division wins for 2025.

I wish we had a special reaction box whenever a shimpan watches over his pupil match. Kisenosato's stone cold face expresses so much emotion.

If Hosh can't handle Zak them him beating Onosato seems so unlikely.
>>
horse is a mild favorite in the sports book odds, but not so much that either of them pays off at even money
>>
>>151030094
Last time he lost to Kirishitma before beating Onosato.

What a bizarre strawman, not wanting to see some shitskin's face plastered on the video does not mean you want to see your own face there instead lol
>>
>>151030224
Thats different, Zak and Onosato are far more similar opponents than KiriSHITma and Onosato are.

It's not about the henka, it's about the fact that in just a couple days we went from a possible hosh 15-0 to him using a henka on a 6-7 wtk to maybe being able to force a day 15 playoff against onosato. The real kicker is him losing to zak only for zak to withdrawl and give onosato a free win the very next day.

It's a legitimate record scratch moment.

Yeah I can see why he'd be pissed off enough to henka

A WTK that looks like a shadow of himself after that rolled ankle as well. The guy hasn't had any of his usual grit in a mawashi fight or agility. Hoshoryu henka'd that guy. He should've been able to toss him in 2 seconds like he did a couple basho ago.
>>
Henka by the yokozuna, on the last bout of the day, second to last day of the tournament, to make it 8 losses for the opponent?
Hosh is taking the Big Piss here.
Uncle's twitter status?

This. It's the lack of confidence on display that's concerning, not some "dishonorabu" nonsense.

Hosh's henka was 100% justified in retaliation for the dishonorable bullshit by the JSA trying to rig a yusho for their Japanese golden boy by giving him a free win. Now Onosato will have to prove he can beat Hoshoryu fairly, which he's only been able to do once in their 7 meetings.
>>
>>151017947
Why would Hosh care if Waka made ozeki or are you saying Hosh is so petty he'd kick a guy while he's down?

WTK is my nigga. Hosh is my other fav but I'm still stunned he did Waka like that. Waka wrestles everyone clean.
I'd be in a steppe-clearing mood if I was him watching Onosato grab a free dub like he did. But damn.
He better murder Onosato tonight.
