I agree that wouldn't be given against Liverpool in the league.

I mean, I did have a very heated debate last season when Saliba got a penalty against him when Arsenal played Brighton and he got some of the ball and then clashed heads with J. Pedro. Most people thought that was a penalty and since this situation with Pope is very similar I guess the same people will say that one is also a clear penalty.

For me, neither the Saliba one or Pope one is a penalty since the defending players both got the ball before the player. All in all, there are plenty of non-Arsenal supporters on here that think that is a clear penalty.

Further reading brings up Fenerbache founder is the grandson of an Ottoman Admiral/Vizier and Princess. He is of Georgian/Christian background. The club was founded before Gala and even had Ataturk as a fan, but clearly the Turkish league dont like these facts

A lot of people are braindead if they don't see the context of last season. Manager coming midseason, massive clearout, playing without striker, with the worst gks in the league making errors after errors, injuries to key players, academy players to fill in, saving legs for EL. Why are people so stupid, not to understand this and use the statistics from last season to support that, we have been in major rebuild? Yes, the pressure is on and we should start to see results this season but it's SIX games in and we played Chelsea, ManCity, Arsenal. We need CUnha back sharp and unselfish, Mbeumo not have a rare mare, and referee not to sink us, and there will be a streak of points awaiting.

>Chelsea fans launch bizarre conspiracy theory over unwanted striker and January swap deal
>The fans suggested Marc Guiu could join Strasbourg - who are also owned by the BlueCo group - which could allow the club to bring forward a deal for Emanuel Emegha. Chelsea have already agreed a deal to sign Emegha next summer.
>FIFA rules prevent players from representing more than two clubs in the same season and with Guiu having played for Sunderland, an appearance for Chelsea would scupper another switch.

>'He needs to come out!' - Jamie Carragher leads calls for Liverpool to DROP Florian Wirtz as £116m man goes missing again in Galatasaray loss

>"I'm not watching a top team. Liverpool are not playing football, they are playing basketball. And I told Slot this on the first game of the season against Bournemouth. They obviously have a fantastic manager. Liverpool last season were a top team, but also a workman-like team, which they've sprinkled a bit of stardust on in terms of the transfers they have brought in. And they haven't gained anything going forward, but they've lost a lot defensively. I think for the manager now, he know needs to really earn his money. He did last season, by winning the Premier League, but there are few problems he has got to fix. It will be really interesting how he does about it, because he spent a lot of money on certain players. Right now, the balance of the team is not right, and the obvious one that stands out is Florian Wirtz, who is just not at the races at all. He's a young boy, coming to a new league, and has plenty of time to go. But right now, he needs to come out of the team, Liverpool go back to what they were last season, and try to build some confidence and some stability. Right now it looks like a mess."
>>
>>151108275
Why is Carragher accusing Wirtz of being a closet gay?
>>
>>151107963
They want whatever Jim tells them to want
>>
Wirtz isn't built for the Premier league. He's too small and weak. Even guys like aguero or David silva were bigger and stronger despite being smaller than usual.
>>
>>151108489
He lacks the guile that those had.
He's even admitted (at least twice that I recall) that he isn't suited to the physicality of the Premier League and needs to adapt, one of those times he blurted out that Slot told him this as well.
>>
>>151108236
Just a coincidence
Same for Liverpool
>>
>>151108236
Nowadays Chelsea fans are more concerned about winning the transfer window by flipping players for a decent fee, rather than winning the league.
>>
Just saw a scouser blame Salah not performing on him being in mourning for Jota. This is the same bloke whose funeral he couldn’t be arsed to turn up to btw
>>
>>151108652
Salah should never have been extended. People already forgot how sassy he was when he was playing like a god the first 5 months of last season. He became nice only when his form dipped. Same for Van Shite.
>>
>>151108489
>>151108567
What seems to happen is JFs are good in some meme league and then they join the PL. Usually they're alright at the start via a combination of feeling high confidence from their time in the JF league and the season just starting. The faster pace and physicality of the league starts to take a toll on them and catches up with them quickly which knocks their confidence leading to flop performances.
Sadly, Wirtz didn't even have this early grace period. He was a flop the second Liverpool gave his dad £10m as a finder's fee.

It's a safe one to discuss because it didn't decide the match for Arsenal so I'd think (most) people could be unbiased about it

I think whats fun about american sports leagues is when you mess up too much you're hamstrung with draft picks and salary cap.

They tried to do something similar in uefa with FFP and then the premier league tried PSR, neither of which seem to prevent teams from flouting their cash as they can just keep reloading, probably because football clubs are a lot more individualistic and like crabs in a bucket compared to the american model where everybody shares the wealth

Well like I said I don’t spend all day here in this 2 post/hr general
>>

>>
>>151109183
The issue with FFP/PSR is that the spending limit is based on the club's income, so the established big clubs are able to spend a shit ton of money while the smaller clubs can only spend relatively little in comparison. All the rules really did was stop another club pulling a Chelsea/Man City/PSG and buying success, it didn't really improve the parity of the football.

Hard salary caps across all UEFA clubs would arguably be the best way to improve parity, but it would be difficult to implement in reality. If the salary cap is too high, then it practically makes no difference since the big clubs will still have much more expensive teams than the smaller clubs. And if the salary cap is low enough that smaller teams could realistically reach it, other leagues like Saudi Arabia or the MLS would be able to absolutely dwarf UEFA wages and all the good players would just leave.

Pep b8d them into signing him. He's done the same with United and Arsenal for years. Klopp didn't fall for it so much, but Slot is such a fraud (along with Hughes and Edwards btw, Salah massively carrying them) that he thought he could out Pep Pep.
Isak is another one. There's a high demand for strikers and low supply. Isak was performing to a very high level at Newcastle. The question is why no one else was interested in him other than Liverpool. He's on the same wage as Havertz and less than Sterlel. Everyone knew not to touch him. Everyone except Slotto.

How is he creating so many chances for a club with players like Ekitike, Isak, Salah, even VVD, Robertson, Macallister, etc and not gotten an assist outside of a Community Shield game? Are they really chances if such prolific goal scorers can't score from them? Or is the whole club just not used to a player like Wirtz?
>>
i don't think wirtz is the biggest concern* at the moment
he's a new player in a new league who's not fully fit and clearly isn't on the same page as other players, that will simply come with time if he's good enough, which there's no reason to think he's not

the bigger issues are at the back obviously; konate has looked miles off the pace pretty much every game other than arsenal and the full backs are still bedding in, i'm not sure either of kerkez or frimpong are the best in their respective positions at the club right now
added to that salah has been isolated in many games too, he's not getting on the ball enough and not getting anywhere near enough touches in and around the box

*caveat: liverpool are still top of the league the "concerns" are pretty limited in the greater scheme of things

It's a cherry-picked stat by Opta to drive engagement. "Chance created" in this instance just means "Pass that led to a shot". But if I pass to you and you shoot from the halfway line, you wouldn't consider that a "chance" would you? But the stats would. Wirtz's xA is 0.7, Grealish's is 2.4.

The issue is the entire tactical set-up at the root, then personel on top of it. They haven't adapted to losing Trent. So now, opponents just crowd the middle in order to stifle Gravenberch and MacAllister/Szoboslai/Jones, because now instead of that leaving a generational passer like Trent free to pick his pass, it leaves the ball at the feet of either Konate (who genuinely looks like a Sunday League player on the ball) or Frimpong/Bradley, who cannot progress the ball with passing and only by dribbling. That of course severely limits the speed of and ability to progress.

Then on a personel level you've got Wirtz dropping stinker after stinker, Gakpo utterly refusing to EVER passs to Kerkez and Konate playing like he's got both feet out the door already.

0 passes is genuinely insane. As in, you'd expect at least one connection to happen even just by accident at some point. He just properly hates Kerkez lol. You can also see the exact issues I mentioned in this very pass map.

>Konate can't pass, so he mostly passes to Van Dijk
>Fullbacks are pushed too high up because their specialty is running at players instead of passing, so you can't have them starting from too deep
>Wirtz is massively isolated because the 8s are being crowded out of the game by counter-presses
>Van Dijk is being burdened with having to be the one to turn defence into a ttack, which leads to back and forths with Curtis Jones or huge diagonals to the right wing
It's a structural mess.

Graph and statistical abuse triggers the fuck out of me no matter what the agenda is. They're embellishing the story they want to tell in a deceptive way that most people won't notice. Maybe you are okay with this, but I notice it and it grates on me. Amorim would still look shit even if the graph was more normal looking, but it's the principle.
>>
>>151111244
Nah, I know exactly what you're on about. Admittedly, it doesn't bother me THAT much but it definitely will irk me sometimes. But unless I'm mistaken, this one doesn't seem deceptive to me. Arbitrary, yes, because why does the gaps have to be 5 points, why can't it be 10 or 15 or even 3 or 1, whatever. But I have to imagine the reason why this graph was shown was to highlight how poor Amorim has been and to do that in an effective way, a gap has to be shown because normal people will see the distance between two points and go "oh yeah, that's pretty bad". Making the gap smaller wouldn't get the message across as effectively even though it would be 100% true still. That's why I don't think they're being deceptive necessarily.
>>
>>151111244
there's nothing misleading about that graph
it displays entirely factual information and is just displayed in way that accentuates the point being made
>>
>>151110425
How are they arbitrarily elongated? All segments are an equal length and the reason they are that long is because the gap between the other 5 managers is relatively small (only one or two points between some of them). The reason Amorim looks especially bad in this graphic is because he really has been that awful. Even if you were to shorten the segments, you'd see that the first 5 managers are pretty much the same and Amorim is way behind them.

>Manchester United are exploring the possibility of playing a mid-season friendly in Saudi Arabia.

>Talks with relevant stakeholders are at an early stage and there is no guarantee a game will be arranged, but United are considering ways to raise revenue and, given they have several free midweeks, travelling to the Middle East is seen as an option.

>Riyadh Season, an annual entertainment and sports festival which hosts major events, typically runs from October to March. But it can go beyond those months and outside of Saudi Arabia. The recent super-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford came under the Riyadh Season banner in September in Las Vegas.

>Taking part in a match in Saudi Arabia could be lucrative for United and, secondarily, provide warm weather to train in during the winter months. Criticism might also be drawn due to Ruben Amorim’s stated appreciation of the extra time he has this campaign to work with his team at Carrington. Typically though, United fly abroad several times per season, doing so on eight occasions in the last campaign.

>United missed out on as much as £85million ($115m; €98m) by failing to qualify for the Champions League this season, after losing the Europa League final and finishing a disastrous 15th place in the Premier League last term.

he could have gone to City or Bayern, both of them with much more forgiving and passive fanbases where he'd likely have no competition for his spot and less pressure besides whats already expected of him and he chose the big bag for the flavor of the month club.

this would upset city fans (if they had any)

Liverpool miss Trent more than I thought they would desu
Wirtz best game was against Arsenal because they didn’t force him to drop deep just to get the ball. They literally cannot progress right now and find him so he drops deep for most of his touches. Frimpong has been shit, Kerkez has been average. Mac Allister looks completely off it.

They need another player that's creative, not a "Trent" in specific, Trent was creative at the cost of being a defensive liability, fine for a midfielder but not for a fullback.

Transfermarkt's "market value" figures are just made-up figures that guess how much a player could potentially be sold for, they're not truly indicative of player quality (as they are skewed by factors such as age) and have no meaningful ties to any real-world finances.

A more meaningful metric is "purchase value", which tracks how much money each club has actually spent on its current squad. This doesn't quite account for everything (such as homegrown players or players that sign on a free transfer), but it does at least track real-world expenditure and show which clubs have the most spending power nowadays.

It sounds appealing, but you still need to spend time travelling to the airport, going through security and waiting at the gate, leaving the airport and reaching wherever you want to visit. When you factor in both the outbound and return journey, you end up wasting 6-8 hours of the day even for short-haul trips. And if the flights do get delayed (quite common for budget airlines), that's pretty much the entire trip rendered pointless.
