Too many coaches getting fired, not enough candidates. Have to imagine some of these schools are not going to end up happy with the guy they get. If Lane doesn't want to leave Ole Miss its going to be a nightmare for LSU/Florida. There's a bunch of B+ hires but no big names like there was a couple years back. Makes me think if the whole Saban retiring/DeBoer getting hired thing was planned out a little while in advance there.

Yeah it’s not that the B1G doesn’t have elite teams, it’s just that most of them are bad, and there are so fucking many teams that it’s completely plausible to avoid all of the elite ones. It would be impossible to have a similarly bad schedule in the SEC. I would think pretty much everyone would face either Bama or Georgia, but even if they didn’t you have Ole Miss, Ass to Mouth, Missouri and Vandy getting uppity lately, plus LSU, Florida, Auburn, Texas and Tennessee during the occasions they have their shit together.

>>
>>151674323
Soft, for the SEC. You're insane if you think a single one of Ohio's opponents (besides Texas lol) this year has anywhere close to the amount of talent of a single one of those teams, even Arkansas.

Take off the SECSECSEC glasses, this is a pretty awful schedule. You can't talk down on Ohio State's conference schedule from one side of your mouth while defending A&M's out of the other. They both play an underachieving blueblood rival who will likely go 9-3, then a bunch of scrubs while dodging the playoff contenders.

>>
I don't see the big deal with letting athletes bet on pro sports. I would even be fine with letting them bet on other college games as long as they aren't playing in them.
>>
>>151674463
It's not, but the SECfags shitting on Ohio State's schedule are also running damage control for Texas A&M and trying to claim Arkansas is a quality opponent.
>>
>>151674552
Arkansas is higher quality than Illinois and Wisconsin.
>>
>>151674444
not that anon, but to me the difference is the SEC actually wants to win and improve. The Big10 has too many teams that are ok with just being 'meh'. Like these programs have not done anything of relevance for 20+ years. -
>Illinois
>Maryland
>Minnesota
>Purdue
>Rutgers (lol)
>Nebraska

And then you've got a bunch of schools that had 1 or 2 good seasons over the last 10-15 years but are mostly mediocre -
>Indiana
>Michigan State
>Northwestern

Not including the new b10 schools here, just the classics. The SEC is more competitive because boosters want results. Northerners generally aren't as interested in football and they cannot get the recruits that the SEC can outside of Ohio State/Michigan.

This also results in situations like Auburn where you have influential boosters meddling so much that the team is a schizophrenic mess and the AD prioritizes winning the press conference when hiring a new coach. LSU is also very close to that precipice right now.
>>
>>151674690
I completely agree. But at least that means people care and WANT the program to do better. I don't think anyone gives a fuck about Minnesota football. They've been the exact same 6-8 win program since the dinosaurs were walking the Earth. And Minnesotans are fine with it for some reason.

Also, why is Buttgers even still in the BIG10? Vanderbilt is a powerhouse now, why can't Rutgers do the same thing? What's the excuse there?
>>
Brian Kelly literally had job security at Notre Dame. He could have stayed coaching there until he wanted to retire.
>>
>>151674770
It's not so much that B1G schools don't care. It's more that Northern states don't have nearly as many 6'5 300 pound future astronaut high school recruits as Southern states do, and the few that are up north mostly go to Ohio State or Michigan or Notre Dame. If you swapped demographics between Nebraska and Georgia you'd see a corresponding rise in Nebraska football and decline in Georgia football.

If organized crime wants to get a player to take a dive and lose a game on purpose they are not gonna just threaten to kill them or whatever. People respond unpredictably to that and it’s way too risky.

If you want someone to take a dive the best way to do it is to get them indebted to you. The best way to get athletes indebted to you is to get them to lose in sports betting. It’s a strategy that has been used over and over in the past. Pretty sure they capture reffies the same way as well. It’s why you need a zero tolerance policy about gambling
>>
Why does Ohio State try so hard at football when nobody cares about football up north?
>>
>>151675355
>they capture reffies the same way

Rarely.
What ever league the reffies work for call the shots and if you (as a ref) don't go along they'll send you to shitty assignments and you'll never get to do any post-season games (which is pay A LOT better) PLUS you get to see some great athletes, and most of the time your travel and lodging is paid for.

>>
>>151675564
Bro they fucking love it

I think only a small number of people truly understand the value of having such an easy schedule. An easy shecdule is a dynasty builder.

You think the patriots were ever so fucking amazing? Or did they just beat up on the dolphins, bills, and jets every single season to get a top playoff seed and then have slightly more fortunate than average results per attempt? Cause it’s the latter.

Notre dame and Ohio state are going to win a lot of natties if nothing changes and most normalfags won’t be able to identify that the reason is statistical and a lot of false greatness will be attributed to these programs.
>>
>>151675418
>Michigan kept dad dicking them for the first 40 years or so

Up until the early 1930's only a very few "schools" took football seriously.

Starting in the 30's tOSU (and lots of other schools) decided a proper team was worth it and split the series Win-Loss to 50/50. Before that it was laughably offsided with tOSU winning only 5 games in all of those years prior.

Since 1940 tOSU has decisively flipped the script and leads by a margin of 63-51.
During this time the BUCKEYES also have won 9 Natty's to TCUN's 3
>>
>>151675551
The main problem is the keksas win. >We know and have known that they were stupidly overrated and arch was likely a bum since forever and a day ago, but the only “marquee” win the B1G has is the season opener where Ohio State squeaked by them at home. That is the foundation of most B1Gfags arguments and doesn’t hold much, if any, water because the only reason keksas wins is through the other team choking on their own dicks.

Is the SEC overrated? Not so much now, but at the start of the season sure. Are they better than the B1G? Definitely.
>>
>>151675606
NFL is a very different game than college though. The very worst NFL team has a surprisingly decent chance to beat the very best teams because the talent discrepancy is usually not that high. The thing with college through is that if you aren't challenged during the regular season there's a good chance you won't be able to perform when things get tough. If OSU didn't lose those two games last year I'm not sure if they still win the natty.

It made sense at the time because people thought he would acclimate to the culture after a while, but he never really did. Kalen DeBoer at Alabama is kind of how it should have gone on paper. You bring in a non-Southern guy, hook him up with boosters/scouts, and eventually the non-Southern guy becomes a Southern guy. People forget that Saban was not a Southern guy either before LSU. It can work but clearly Brian Kelly was a poor hire and never fit the Louisiana/SEC culture. And in college football fit is really, really important.

might still get spicy, but it has lost some sheen for sure. on the flip side we get better-than-expected Vandy Texas and Cincy Utah. Plus OU Tennessee still has juice. Plus USC, GT, ole miss and georgia all have sneaky matchups with playoff implications. Maybe throw virginia in that mix as well. Also Navy vs. NT is a bizarre G5 banger at this point of the season.

that's about right for them. They were always going to need carnage in front of them. There's still plenty of time left for that.

B1G = 3 teams, and that might be a lock unless oregon shits the bed
SEC = 5 or 4 (ND needs needs to see Tennessee and Vandy slip up. Alternatively they need UGA to lose a conference game and then lost to GT)
ACC = 1 or 2? (ND really needs this to be a 1 bid league with Miami taking the reigns, unless GT can functionally steal one of the SEC spots)
Big 12 = real wild card here. Again, you want one dominant team
It will probably help if Navy and Boise State wind up being the two top g5 contenders.

All of that is still bascially a coin flip. Unsurprisingly, just want A&M, Miami, USC, Navy to do as much as possible. Oddly enough you're now really pulling for Bama at this point too

B1G will get tOSU, Indy, Oregon, and TCUN and/or USC.
SEC will get A2M, Bama, UGA, and Vols and/or Vandy
That's at least 8 min, 10 max.
So lets say only 8 because unless both the B1G and SEC completely melt down they will each demand at least 4 spots
The AP will force the Papist in.
That's 9
ACC will have Tech and/or Miami
bigtwelve will throw a hissy fit and get the door-to-door book sellers or Cincy in
That's 11 min
So who's the 12th?
Memphis? Navy?

Also, looks like the fucking government is trying to pass legislation to cap coach pay and buyout amounts. Glad those worthless fucks have all the others issues solved...

A&M has been battle tested over a bunch of games against talented teams. Indiania had one flukey win over oregon who themselves only beat pedo state lol

Its so dissappointing because last year after indiana got BTFO in round one literally everyone involved in college football said that the committee is going to start putting a greater emphasis on strength of schedule so as to prevent uncompetitive playoff games from happening again. Less than 1 year later everyone is making the exact same retarded mistake.

Different Auburn guy here. I don't have a strong preference beyond not anyone with a bunch of scandals, especially ones that miraculously find Jesus right as they need a cudgel to protect them from the consequences of their actions. Freeze isn't the only slimebag in that category. All of the Baylor filth that's lurking around FBS needs to stay away. Franklin has the reparations rape coverup taint to him so not excited about that possibility.
I'd be fine with Sumrall or Lashlee. I'm not sold on Golesh but also wouldn't be upset if he were hired. I don't think we're going after a P2 coach unless maybe it's Clark Lea.
Auburn is somewhat famous for booster meddling and dysfunction but we have a lot of wealthy alumni who rarely, if ever, give to football. They let the jock sniffers do their thing mostly unopposed. But when things get too out of hand, they do have the power and influence to tamp things back down. I expect they're tired of seeing Auburn dragged through the mud and will exert some influence over things this time around as a way of smacking down the football boosters that are making a mess of everything. Those guys have been angling for a scumbag coach for two decades and now that they finally got one, it's been a disaster. That will damage their influence greatly.
I'm not too concerned about the reputation of Auburn of being a difficult place to coach due to boosters. The problem is more open and obvious at Auburn but it exists at most major programs, and often it's more difficult to deal with when it's behind the scenes. We're probably going to get a G5 coach. Those guys want to be in the big show. Doubt any of them would turn down a P2 job over booster concerns. The main issue is how many other P2 programs are interested in the same guys.

>>151688171
It's better for Indiana this way. At that age he's less likely to move around and Cignetti seems insanely competitive enough to keep doing this as long as possible. He won't retire right after getting a B1G job.

Donald trump was 70 when he first ran for president and has since gone on to be the greatest and most important American president of the modern era. If the ncaa wasn't a morally and literally bankrupt sham of an organization, they would have vacated all their wins from 21-23 including the national championship. But they just want to exploit the situation for money lol.

When ohio state "cheats" (a handful of players sell/trade their own property), they have to vacate a 12-1 season including a sugar bowl win, get rid of one of the best head coaches in program history in disgrace and subsequently have their only losing season this century.

Though desu the game at the highest level had passed Tressel by years ago and he was probably never going to win a natty again. I'm not sure what the rest of his tenure would have looked like, but the best case would be something like Bobby Bowden I think. It's hard to say that he would have done better than what has happened since.

>James Franklin to Penn State
Lmao, he's already signing paperwork at VT as we speak. That was his pipeline at Penn State.

Here's the actual list
>LSU - Coach O
I'm not kidding, he is the most budget friendly coach available for LSU. He doesn't need the money, and he would give up a bunch to be back at LSU, he just needs to get the off the field stuff handled. Remember LSU is actually VERY short on money so...
>Florida - Jon Sumrall
Easy fit btw, young coach, real successful, and there's Nobody else with a better record they can hire. so, everything below is going to be mostly bad (except VT obviously)
>Penn State - Brian Newberry
A Strange Hire but hear me out, Navy is on FIRE, and he is able to take an extreme talent restricted roster and turn it into something very competitive in their field. Penn State doesn't have a recruiting issue; they have a talent utilization issue. James Franklins biggest issue is he couldn't make any use of the talent to beat equal talent; that's the entire reason he was fired.
>Arkansas - Bobby P
They'll keep him like coach O's original tent; he's not a bad coach and his only reason for getting fired in the first place was he was caught riding on that sweet Harley with his mistress on that fateful night. They'll probably give him a year or two to work it out before actually hiring a head coach if it doesn't and Bobby P does not mind this situation. This saves the AD a shit ton of money and allows additional opportunities for coaches to come up. BTW if this does end up happening, then they'll hire Jeff Traylor

Everyone else is fucked besides VT, UCLA will probably keep their head coach if he keeps getting victories like he has been. NOBODY ELSE SHOULD FIRE THEIR COACH UNLESS YOU'RE FSU AND THERE IS NOTHING WORSE WHICH IS ALREADY PRESENT

I don't have a dog in this fight but LSU and Florida are objectively top tier elite jobs. Pedo state is at the very top of the next tier down if not also elite tier themselves.

LSU was super elite 10 years ago. It might be low tier elite now.

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore withdraw appeals in NCAA infractions case
The infractions were related to Michigan's sign stealing scandal

from the story:

"Michigan's football program's rise under Harbaugh coincided with the team's sign stealing scandal. The Wolverines won 64.4% of their games from 2017-20 before winning 93% of their games from 2021-23. The later stretch included three straight wins over an Ohio State team that had been 5-0 against Harbaugh-led Michigan teams prior to the 2021 season."

If you look at the NFL, the highest paid players make a lot more than the coaches. And coach salary does not count against salary cap. Whereas in college the money paying the coach is coming from the same boosters who pay the players ultimately.

This to me says that yes. College QBs would probably already be making more than their coaches. ESPECIALLY with the market for coaches being so retarded with the contracts.

Give me the best QB and the best WR in the class of 2026 and will take the best high school coach in my state and pay him 500k. Instead of a new contract for James fucking Franklin

It's going to take time for everything to adjust to the realities of NIL and the portal. If certain teams start over performing because they put more into player acquisition than they do on coaching, that will change things. Right now we're seeing programs full of talent being squandered by shitty coaches and some with average talent doing very well under good coaching. That's pushing salaries up but without performance clauses, it's still rewarding some rather shitty coaches.
Though I don't know how it could possibly be structured this way, a fun development would be if coaches had their salaries, the salaries of their staff, and NIL rolled into one huge pot. It would then be up to the coach to decide how much to pay himself, his assistants/staff, and how much to spend on players. Get too greedy, your staff leaves and your roster looks like it belongs to ULM. Spend most of the pot on everyone but yourself, get a championship but end up pocketing "only" a couple of million for yourself.

Ole Miss has to deal with their team nickname being the people who fought a war to keep their players’ ancestors in chains. As well being historically pretty bad.

Being wrong doesn't reduce attention so they don't have to bother with reality. They can spin any tale they want, get a bunch of views, and then either pretend it didn't happen or make a bunch of videos making obviously bad excuses because that drives engagement. Doesn't matter if there's a 0% chance of Saban coming out of retirement, they can still claim it's going to happen and get awarded with monetized attention.

You both type like people who would flunk the breakfast question. Whether Mississippi is actually racist is not the point. The point is that many blacks perceive them to be racist and that’s a disadvantage no one else really has any trouble with.

Meanwhile a black guy who gets a $500k NIL deal at Ole Miss isn't going to care about the history of the Rebel nickname.

You're completely missing the point; I don't give a flying fuck if he's good or not. He's not getting rewarded with the most prestigious individual trophy in college football for accomplishing LITERALLY NOTHING.
>>
>>151698361
Strikes me as a strategic error, honestly. That can’t make the rest of the conference feel comfortable.
>>
>>151699243

A&M's schedule, while "soft" for an SEC team this season, is still significantly more difficult then the list of shitters Ohio State gets to run through on their way to a first round bye.
Cope harder.

>>151699368
LSU said it's being covered by a private donor.

Texas A&M would beat the absolute piss out of Indiana. I would bet any amount of money on A&M winning.
>>
>>151698361
This shit is fucking stupid bro. Why do I even care about college football. LSU literally has an entire state behind it with the governor speaking on head coaching hires. The same goes for Ohio state their entire state is behind the program and you get faggot politicans talking about it. Its just extremely not fair when you are just one of three schools in florida trying to take on entire states. This sport is gay and stupid.

oregon was relevant when they were the only team with a billionaire sugar daddy. now everyone can drop millions without getting hammered with sanctions and are better situated to very fertile recruiting grounds. oregon will never sniff the natty.
>>
What exactly does a University offer you in return if you front $50 million dollars to buy out a coach?
>>
>>151692922
ohio state doesnt miss tressel. he was the SECs bitch for 10 years. you could see the light leave their eyes after that 3rd ass beating in a row by a DIFFERENT SEC team.
>>

ESPN likes large market programs. why do you think they keep trying to meme USC into relevance every year? they have a fucking office in Los Angeles.

people thought alabama was retarded for paying nick saban 9mil a year when they hired him. look how that worked out.
>>
>>151700160
Prior to NIL if you wanted to make your team better then you could spend money on your coaching or you could spend money on facilities. That was pretty much it. So obviously spending on a top tier coach was a good idea. Being able to directly buy players changes the math. The NFL bears this out. dak shitsock makes 3x the salary of Andy Reid. It’s clearly better ROI to spend on players
>>
>>151700145
When they got so assblasted after losing to Michigan that they tried to make it a felony to flag plant in Ohio lol
>>
>>151700301
jimbo fisher at texas A&M says otherwise. he had a top 10 recruiting class every year he was at A&M and barely went .500 his last 2 years. having a capable coach matters now more than ever.
>>
>>151697588

dan lanning is a poor man's kirby smart. he is a brett venables tier coach playing with daddy knight's checkbook. he needs to stay in the B1G where he isnt looking down the barrel of a gun every week. he isnt built for the SEC.

>>
>>151700464
You don't think Ole Miss can pay 6 figure NIL deals?
>>
>>151700673
i have watched them play pretty regularly. i knew arch wasnt the guy last year when georgia sacked him 3 times in one drive and sark pulled his scared ass and put ewers broke dick ass back out there. arch manning cannot handle scrutiny or pressure, just like his uncle Eli couldnt.
>>
>>151699379
Travis Hunter was easily the worst Heisman winner in my lifetime.

Being above average at 2 positions on a 7 win team doesn't make you the best most deserving player in the country. ESPECIALLY when you had a generational season out of RB who was dragging his G5 team to a playoff spot.
>>
>>151700761
agreed. but, ESPN was rimming Deion Sanders so hard that you would think colorado was fucking 2003 USC.
>>
>>151700761
>Above average
He was elite at CB and well above average at WR.

>Generation season
Yeah, any good player can look like a GOAT playing against competition vastly inferior to them. He was shut down the moment he went up against players who could actually play in a power conference
>>
>>151701030
he played in the same conference as travis fucking hunter....so pick one.

>>151701384

>>
>>151701030
It works both ways, his teammates were inferior as well. Pedos said lets just double or even triple cover jeanty every play and it paid off.. Statistically the teams actually played even, boise just had quite a few stinky's.
>>
>>151701030
>He was elite at CB
I remember Ayomanor. I remember Stanford.
