Wasn't here for the touring car sperg out, just wanted to add that I think it's weird that Plato Racing is building a pair of 2nd gen CLAs because Daimler introduced the 3rd gen last year
Looks like they really looked at every possible option and went with whatever happened to be the ideal bodyshell for the job
>>
>>152875762
I think the teams might revolt if they took away "win and in" or threaten to use one of their vetoes to preserve it.
All the 2nd tier teams like RCR, Trackhouse, and 23XII are counting on winning one race and getting the playoff bonus payout.

i dont think there is such thing as the goat racer as a concept. Rallying and sportscar racing and single seater racing all need different skills for example. You would put max in a gt he might dominate but put him in a toyota rally1 and he will have a hard time to do as well from the get go
We have some very accomplished racers in different disciplines and they need different skillsets. For rallying? Maybe Ifj Tóth
For circuit racing there is of course Norbert Michelisz with his 3 TCR world titles, but in the meantime Norbi Kiss is stupidly dominating ETRC (that european championship racing semis), having won 7 titles in 11 years

>>152886220
If honestly works great. Assuming yours is a manual it's rated to tow 2500 lbs I believe and I've never had a single issue. I bought the concealed hitch so you can't see it when it's not hooked up to a trailer. It's actually on of the reasons I haven't traded it in (I've been looking at ct5's and M5's) is because it's so versatile and I use it like a truck half the time. The hitch is a pain in the ass to install though so I'd recommend paying the extra money to have a shop do it like I did.

I hate that argument for disparaging retired legends. And imo modern guys who say that use it as a cope for not being better then some of their own peers. Its true the new gen build upon the past but that doesn't mean a guy like Emerson Fittipaldi was some bum. You can only compare them to their own competition, and guys like Earnhardt or Andretti were greats and deserve to be favorably compared to any modern driver.

Your take is past drivers wouldnt stand a chance in an even playing field? Or is it, the equipment is equal now, so driving talent will be exposed? Or, they wouldnt be able to afford the seat so it doesnt matter.

>>152887094
>DUE TO EQUIPMENT.
nope.
every generation's best driver brings in something which makes him better than the previous one, be it better tyre management, driving style intricacy or something else.
For the next generation that's the _base_ benchmark.
Great example fitness. In the 90s the time's goats like schumacher really upped the bar in that regard compared to previous generations. For the next generations that was a minimum, and the best of a generation brings the previous best as minimum and improves on it.
This is one the reason that >>152887248 -> yeah if you put the current top guys in the old cars they would smash, because the current generation is fitter, more precise and for example better at tyre management.
Promoters, championships will always glaze over the past greats because that way they can milk you even more, it's pure business for them
Currently in every genre of racing there are more spec parts than ever and if you look at laptime differences it really shows that even in muh f1 cars and drivers are closer than ever and reliability and manufacturing quality deviation is lower than ever was.

>nope
great way to dive into a discussion. the internets a mistake.
>fitness
Fitness is a habit, can be implemented easy, and during their time, working on their farm etc was the fitness. The Indy500's format hasnt change. Did those guys fall off during their races, or with modern safety would they be able to run even harder?
>better tire management
The quality of tires has changed drastically, you cant be serious to think Foyt wouldnt have learned the new tires. Again it is EQUIPMENT. THE COMPUTERS THAT TELL THEM EVERYTHING IN THE TIRE, THE TESTING, THE FACTORIES? ALL EQUIPMENT. Not a sudden jump in driver skill, if that were the case then why even have paid seats? Why isnt everyone trying to be Redbull?
>Evolution
Look at the eras Foyt evolved with. The old GOATs can drive in any era, while these new GOATs would struggle.
>Raising the bar
how many championship teams are there in F1? the bar is at an all time low. you have to hold out for a ((top seat)) on the top two teams, while the others exist with minimal chance at winning. Somethings dont change lol

>if you put the current top guys in the old cars they would smash
With the same ruleset? The same expectations to drive fast? The same expectation to be fearless? False. They would be eaten up in the old era, no amount of fitness prepares them for that era, and the mental strength it takes to overcome the variables, not masked by technology, and only willed by skill & determination.
>they can milk you even more
so youre in the "sniff your own farts" motorsports category, got it. sorry forgot youre a purist, and look down upon poor carriage makers.
>it's pure business for them
best thing to do is build their current business by discrediting the past, and framing their ((evolution)) as groundbreaking, "pushing the envelope". thanks rabbi
>more spec
more business cookie cutter cars drivers

Nice comeback euro, legitimizes your (((take))) with smugness instead of facts. You were fighting tooth and nail yesterday over coupes, sedans, and wagons, but shy away from anything that exposes your take as straight shit. Way to be safe. You wouldnt be able to drive in the old era with that mentality lol
>wheres that dog today?
Youre the same guy that argues hungry produces better drivers? Why dont hungarians come to the US, and take American seats, if they are that great? Same as current drivers sweeping the past field, im sure it will occur. LOL

People aren'tgoingto like this, but the best American racer was A.J. Foyt.
Hands down.
Without a doubt.
Others need not apply.
Hell, he's probably the best driver of all time.
He had wins at the Daytona 500, the Daytona 24 hours, the le Mans 24 hours and the Indy 500 hundred. Four. Damn. Times.
Those are the four most prestigious races to this very day and no one will ever do that again.
Monaco can suck my ass. That's a quadruple crown.
Oh, he also won the 12 hours of Sebring, and a few champ car races, too. That dude is so under appreciated, it's unreal.

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth is a total legend. The only hot rod artist I like more is Kenny Howard, aka Von Dutch. You can see Von Dutch styling on the 13 Motorsports (formerly AWA) Corvette. It's my favorite livery on the grid.
Pic related is a decal my buddy gave me for Christmas. I have a strict no stickers rule for my cars, but I'm sorely tempted to slap it on the top of the rear glass on the Vette.

This is the best question I seen posted anywhere in a long time. The MR layout and closed wheels say sports car, but the one door and six seats definitely disqualify it from that. It has a separate trunk so it's not a hatch and it can't be a saloon (sedan) because it only has the one door. So, I'll have to say it's an exotic touring car.
The Wenie 500 was such a success, I have no doubt we'll see it again this year. I wonder what they will do this year.

>I would like to see more cars not made for ovals racing on ovals.
Every year during the Daytona 24 hours I constantly think
>What if they took out the infeild section?
I don't want to change the Daytona 24, but what if we ran an IMSA race on a cookie cutter or super speedway? Even if it is just prototypes only or GT3 only. I don't know if it would be as good as MX-5 at Martinsville, but I believe it would be kino. Like a closed wheel IndyCar race or something. The only real reason I could think that they haven't or wouldn't is that ovals are basically guaranteed to wreck cars, so the teams probably wouldn't be interested.
>>
>>152888611
Finland bro, I used to be like you. I didn't get oval racing, but after watching a few IndyCar oval races I started to get it. It's a lot more subtle sometimes, but it's the same principles as road racing. They study the driver ahead, take the best line the car is set up for and use momentum and aerodynamics to try to pass. If you don't know what you're looking for or aren't paying close attention you mightnot enjoy it, but once you start to understand, you can get these incredibly intense battles that just look like two guys turning left at a glance.
I can't like it for you, but I will say, it opens up a lot of racing to be enjoyed and a lot of fun times with the lads. Drag racing is another thing that seems kinda boring on the face of it, but if you just pick your guy in each pass, it can be really fun.
If I have any advice for anyone, it's that it is more fun to like things than to not like them.

I think part of what has made the past greats so good is the live seat time/test/practice vs the heavy sim era not "feeling" as much. Saying that though, im not 100% sure they would benefit from the sims, the same way the current guys do. They would adapt, but losing the testing, you saw KB/JJ drop off in NASCAR, you have Dixon in Indy has commented on the change.

every major series splits off on race weekend bruh. The reason why indycar doesnt have its own general because the races are so much spaced apart, interest and newsflow is so low that in the regular sports season stick and ball threads would kill it quickly. The only non f1 motorsport which would be able to live on its own is turnleft bc it has races every weekend and there are constant drama and shit inbetween

Rossi, even more than most drivers, comes off as a classic rich asshole. He has definitely lost his focus and is doing tons of stuff that isn't helping his driving abilities. Guys like Palou and Verstappen are basically either in the gym, at the track or on the simulator.
They days of having a separate career or owning a buisness and being top champion driver are over. Even the idea of being a multi discipline driver is nearly dead. The only situation I could imagine that happening would maybe be and IndyCar or F1 driver being able to win a WEC or IMSA championship.

disagree. any IndyCar driver worth a shit (and some not worth a shit) does the 24 Hours of Daytona at least, and other sports car races if schedules allow. all the best young drivers in Super GT also do Super Formula. there is benefit from cross-training open wheel and sports cars.

>you don't go into racing to make money
I get the point youre trying to make about passion, image etc, but you do race for money, or it would just be driving. The thrill of competing for something is at the root, and the root is attached to a prize, the prize being as small as a penny. The money then pays for the freedom to drive more, enjoy more, (attempt to) win more, all while building an image. No strong lasting image/team is associated with heavy losing, they might have huge dips (Aj Foyt Racing/Wood Brothers), but what has built their image? Winning, and what does it take to run a car? Money from winning/placing. Not being a really good team at finishing 43rd, out of the money, never producing a trophy to showcase. Even though I wish it were the case, because some good guys have finished 43rd.
>different sport but indiana football program
they chose to get better. I know there is a different gap in motorsports, but the competitive spirit shouldnt fade, and teams should want to win, or at the very least place. Look at their image in two short years of winning, after decades of losing (football).

The idea is to group it in with a bunch of other racing content, but they were hovering around 10-15K views the last few years, which is wild because the races from 5+ years ago have hundreds of thousands of views.
>>152920128
I have it on right now and yeah, it's a little disappointing, but remember SCCA is member focused, so they probably didn't have or at least didn't want to spend the money hiring 10 cameramen for a mid level club meet.
>>
>>152920375
>it always turns into a money fight and one team eventually outspends everyone else and the entire thing falls apart.
correct. Porsche and Mercedes-Benz killed GT1. Ford and Nissan killed Group A touring car racing. but what really killed those categories, is the that the competing manufacturers didn't have the balls to build a better car. manufacturers are lazy bitches who quit racing the second they are at a disadvantage. this is why we have BoP, spec series, and no tire wars. without this artificial environment, modern racing would fall apart.

the former driver podcasts can be good but it really depends on the theme of it. The braggy nico rosberg type is shit, but any of the nascar ones I listened to were pretty shit as well

they can leave motorsport if they want, why wouldnt. Indycar isnt the majority of posting here anyways. If they can keep their threads alive then so be it. I dont get the problem here

bro is not afraid, but any of you if you like gt3 then you should be aware that the regulation set will die in the next 5 years as costs will go through the roof, manufacturers who dont want to jump on the homologation special bandwagon will cry for bop parity which wont ever be achieved
Reminder homonspecials are not a thing because manufacturers asked to abolish the requirements

The keep shilling him because he is english and was promising in his junior years (he was colin mcrae's protege).
Also because: Chenny, Julien, Paul King, Kiri, Abby all british and Becs is welsh so they will always have a bias towards shitters from the isles
