Im 35 and never watched a race in my life. So people cheer for drivers like sports teams, so they follow stories about car makers like in Ford vs Ferrari, or what? If I were to watch the Daytona 500 or start watching F1 or something how would I get into it?
>>153028934It's up to you. Some of us like drivers. Some of us like teams. Some like certain car models. Some just like watching certain types of racing and want to see a good race. Best way to get started is just to watch racing and see what clicks for you. In NASCAR or IndyCar, maybe see if a specific car livery stands out, or if you like a certain driver in interviews. Formula 1 is kind of the same, though the team aspect is bigger since principals and other team members are shown so often, not just drivers. With sports cars, in the top prototype class people usually pick a manufacturer they like, since it's VERY team based. You can ignore LMP2 or 3 since those are all dentists. For GT cars, just pick a car make you want the most (Ferrari, Porsche, etc...) and then follow the one with the livery you like the most. Watching for a specific driver is less common in sports cars since they share the car, but some people follow drivers if they like someone who moved to sports cars from another racing series.

Like any other sport, and perhaps even more , things like podcasts and analysis shows can help you to understand the finer points and reinforce what happened in the race. Of course the more popular a series is, the more of this content there will be, but be careful.
