Sad state of affairs. I would've nominated maybe Spence once a upon a time.

>I belive that if Thurman kept the fight coming, it would have turned into a brawl.

I do think that's a core trait of Fundora that could be reliably manipulated, but I hope that's only the case for one round. I hope his cornermen, after noticing he's not using his height anymore and falling into old habits, will tell him to use his reach again when the round is over. Dora seems like a great listener, so I can imagine he'd cut the shit and fight smart after that. I wish Mendoza won so we could maybe force that rematch, because he's like the only guy who could pull it off and test him

>Jaron Ennis, Vergil Ortiz, and Xander Xayas.
I don't see Ennis fighting him. Hell, I don't see most people lining up to fight him. Even though this fight was a layup, it kinda reinforced how challenging this guy is to fight.

Actually, Xayas and Boots might be fighting, and maybe the winner can attempt to unify with Fundora? That would be nice
>>
>>154042729
I agree with you Boots is not a good stylistic match up. He gets tagged on the outside. Ortiz has that dog in him, that would be a good fight.
>>
I can't believe Fundora is still dropping his hands while he punches. I hope he keeps his distance

Mendoza was not brawling Fundora, though. That KO against Fundora was the culmination of Mendoza's punch and clinch attacks. There was a science behind it.
>>
I wonder who they'll have Itauma fight next. I hope it's a top 15 guy, not another punching bag. At least someone on the level of Ajagba or Torrez.
There were some rumblings of him fighting Okolie, maybe that will happen.
>>

How is Itauma British again
>>
The proper way of dealing with Fundora is relentless in-and-out pressure with the intention of fighting on the inside to nullify his range and lanky power. Fighting from the outside is a big no, unless you hurt him enough that he starts fighting on the back foot.

Uppercuts to the chin and solar plexus using a nasty angle from the inside.

>>
Give Thurman a rematch with a different ref. He's got Fundora's number
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aTVQ9BDoh4

>Thurman was studying tape on Fundora against Mendoza and Tim
>Saw Fundora getting sloppy and opening up later rounds
>Gameplan was to drag fight into later rounds and counter
>Said jumpy ref stopped it too early, ban him from big fights

Last night I didn't mind the stoppage, but Thurman has a point. He argues in big time championship fights, refs should let the fighters go on, especially in this case where Thurman hasn't even gone down.
>>
>>154048847
The ref probably had Keith's age and inactivity in mind, then saw how his face looked compared to Fundora, and how Keith seemingly wasn't turning it around and Fundora starting to turn it up. I would have liked to see it continue on, as a fan, but Keith's game plan proved to be amateurish and risky by like the 3rd round. Very disappointed with his strategy as a veteran
>>
>>
>>154048880
Yeah even if Thurman was trying to play out his gameplan and didn't go down, he could've done more to convince this ref to not stop the fight. It was way too one sided. I'm not a big fan of this ref, he jumps in a lot, talks too much in the ring, and asserts his authority way too often.
>>
>>154048847
It was an awkward moment to stop, but Keith was just getting wrecked, he would not have survived until the late rounds and would have just taken more damage
>>
>>154048932
Thurman's post fight comments are a combination of not taking loss well and some truth. He said just before the stoppage, the fight was heating up, and both guys were about to let go and exchange, and that's where Fundora opens up. But looking at the rounds it was just too one sided and Fundora wasn't playing, he was beating the shit out of Thurman.

> relentless in-and-out pressure
I'm talking about "counter" in-and-out pressure here, which means reactive footwork (and head movement) based on Fundora's threatening attacks. Trying an aggressive in-and-out footwork, like Usyk or Loma does, is very dangerous against Fundora because of his insane punching volume, range and power that would easily drown you. Fundora is basically a boxer's nightmare because you need to do counter-intuitive things like fighting or moving on the inside, instead of fighting off the back foot or doing lateral movements.
>>
Zoo basically got the assignment except for the infighting part. Once he started moving off the back foot to escape, Fundora never stopped attacking.
>>

Its crazy how this era managed to squeeze so much money from the fans for so little effort. When we look back on the Thurman/Garcia/Porter timeline its one of the most dogshit hypejob periods of boxing in ages. These guys spent years doing next to nothing, fighting every few years against nobodies and when they finally stepped up it was mediocre garbage and they lost.
There's fucking retards here and on yt that thought Thurman had a chance in hell against Fundora but seemingly ignore his entire bum ass career. This guy got dominated by a 43 year old washed up Pacquiao 7 fucking years ago but yeah, he's gonna beat Fundora.
But this is the kind of disphit fan the PBC milked for years while giving nothing in return. I'd throw Spence in there too even though he came up a bit later. Good fucking riddance these bums are finally gone.
>>
>>154049798
I don't know. Maybe it's body language, it's the visible bruises, plus refs getting too jumpy. Similar feeling when Parker got stopped in the Wardley fight, sure he was wobbled, but he was blocking. 10 years ago the refs let Pac break Margarito's face and wouldn't jump in even when Pac asked.
>>
>>154050982
Margarito was still in that fight to the end tho, Thurman was doing jack shit. Boxing has gotten noticeably fucking gayer in the last decade tho. One of the reasons i hardly watch anymore is how quickly even good competitive fights get stopped now. The Mattias fight recently was turning into something special and the minute a guy gets dropped hard and gets up anyway the faggot ref ends the fight. Imagine you paid for a ticket for that.
>>
>>154050677
I hate when someone loses and fans start shitting on their whole career, that mid 2010s era was way better than this one.

>>
>>154050677
Off topic, but it's strange witnessing an end of an era with my own eyes. I'm not an OG boxing fan. I grew up watching YouTube videos about the 2000s-2010s boxers, and I've witnessed Wilder and Spence and Fury at their highest, and Bud at his lowest. I remember the day when Usyk became known to the general public, and now I'm watching all these guys fixing to retire, and a new wave of talent emerging.

It's very interesting seeing Itauma make such a splash just because his style shakes up the heavyweight meta so much. If these guys weren't obese, slow, 1-2 punch combination punchers, he'd be pushed along more modestly. Now guys are saying he has a shot a Usyk lol

>>
>>154054949
That is a good a fight, and this does seem like the perfect time to do it. It will 100% end quick. Shame it'll never happen since Torrez probably doesn't want to risk it

When we were discussing how to get past Fundora's range and on the inside it actually reminded me a ton of the Ippo vs Mashiba fight. Yeah I know Fundora's got no "flicker jab" but the extreme length of his arms is downright cartoonish. It's also similar in that if you get in his range, you still have hell to pay. Thurman was taking an ippo-tier beating kek

You think he does? I'm sure Itauma would since he's beating dudes he's watched growing up, and everyone thinks highly of him. Torrez has fallen a bit in popularity, and failed to stop his decent veteran.

You know, maybe we should give Itauma Guido first if we wanna make Torrez vs Itauma
>>
>>154049489
I like your analysis. Any examples of fighters that have reactive footwork/head movement and fighting on the inside? Like Hagler or something? Any current fighters with the right skillset?
>>
>>154055124
Everytime you see Torrez in an interview he's hungry. He wants the big fights, and I know for a fact Bob Arum wants to put him at a slower pace. Maybe the Vianello fight showed why, but he's still young, still learning. That fight is fuzzy in my mind, I genuinely don't even remember how it went down. But gotta remember Guido knocked out Tyson Fury's next opponent, Neck Twitch Makhmudov
>>
>>154054994
Didn't Mashiba have a pre-ippo hype fight where he BTFO'd a dude with his flicker jab, or am I mistaking him for the "shotgun" dude?
>>
>>154052840
exactly
>>154052386
dude, keith thurman, danny garcia and porter were the definition of the cynical poseur generation that followed true legends like pac, cotto, margarito etc. They all tried to emulate the gayweather zero risk/pay me millions to sit around do fuck all for years and it worked in part because stupid fucks like you were credulous enough to buy into the fake pbc bullshit narratives about it.

>>154054365
i respect this post cuz you're being honest and making a good faith effort. A lot of these patterns repeat themselves across time, Itauma is a good example and there's nothing inherently wrong with his trajectory so far. HW is weak as ever and they have a guy that can knock out the usual starter bums so it is what it is. I'd like to see him step up to Zhang, Kabayel, Usyk, Parker, Dubois, and Wardley levels soon if he's such a prodigy. We can't know how good someone is until they fight someone. That was the issue with Porter/Thurman/Garcia and even Spence. PBC was happy dragging out their careers with zero challenges and paying them to fight Rod Salkas. Its a joke. I took great pleasure in seeing Thurman get his commeupance for fleecing boxing with his mediocre bullshit for years.
>>
>>154054994
Their stances and style are completely different. Mashiba fights with the hand down like Hearns, Fundora keeps his hands higher and doesn't whip it out from the waist like that. You're an idiot and should stop posting based on some vague emotional memory.
>>
>>154055172
Don't remember, been a while since I watched/read it but Mashiba was one of the first "villain" type characters. It's clear that Morikawa based him off the Hitman Hearns, and it is funny how people were comparing Fundora to Hearns last night with his crazy range but also good ability to fight on the inside (and that a Hagler type fighter would be the perfect to counter his style)
>>
>>154055207
Bro, I literally just said "I know he doesn't have a flicker jab"

It's the cartoonish length of his arms that I was drawing attention to. Fundora has limbs that are straight out of a cartoon.

His style is similar in that Fundora has a really long jab (not flicker), and that even if you get on the inside he's still very dangerous. Different kind of styles, but there are similarities to be made. Don't take it so literal, it's an anime. I know he's based on Hearns lol.
>>
>>154055146
Yeah Guido isn't too bad, and I believe Torrez clearly won, but Itauma probably would have gotten him out. Torrez is scary because he's aggressive and feints and lets his hands go. His aggressive puts his opponents in bad positions where he can land great shots, but something went wrong against Guido, and I forgot. Itauma is much the same but without the footwork. He's got nice punch selection and long bodywork that causes his opponents to make openings for him. I think it's a fine test for both guys, but mainly Itauma
>>
>>154055178
>PBC was happy dragging out their careers with zero challenges and paying them to fight Rod Salkas
I really really hope Itauma's fast rise and networks like ProBox encourages a resurgence of new guys fighting good opposition. But I suppose that only happens when the prospect is good enough
>>
>>154055407
its counterintuitive in the sense that you as a fan would think that but a cocksucker like Warren will try to milk him as long as possible because the sport is flawed in the sense that its designed around being "undefeated" and until that changes greed will continue to prevail.
If boxing was smart (its not, its for dumb subhumans of the lower classes) it would make the idea of losing a virtue and create a new sport where "the best" really do fight the best and create a meritocracy of warriors, but that's not gonna happen cuz its run by jews, and shrimpdicks like Warren. Its basically a mobbed up circus gambling sport for halfwits and alcoholics with the pretense of athletic competition.

Can you imagine if they perma banned cash cows like Canelo
>>
>>154063178
After the Fundora Thurman fight, Charlo was interviewed and said he could beat Fundora, when asked how he didn't answer.
>>
Thurman was right. That "show me something" ref was incompetent and didn't understand how Keith fights, that's literally how Keith fights, nor did the ref understood the situation Keith was in. The damage done to Thurman was mainly skin-deep. Even then, he should have given Keith the leeway because this wasn't just an ordinary fight. Keith was fighting a very tall boxer who kept punching to protect his reach advantage. How could Keith show him something when Fundora never stopped punching while Keith was working his ass off sliding side to side? Thurman's style was always to find the opportunity to land his hooks with his lateral movements. Straight punches are not how he works. Thurman didn't run, and he didn't "do nothing".
>>
>>154064358
Ideally, guys like Canelo would fear getting banned after guys like RJJ would get banned from boxing and maybe just decide not to do it. But then that would mean missing out on a full RJJ legacy. But then you have to ask: what's the point of idolizing guys who are confirmed cheaters? Why glorify someone who didn't do it the right way?
>>
>>154064407
They're a bunch of drunkards. I'd love for Plant and Fundora to put the nail in those loser's coffin

Not even hyperbolic. He did nothing to set up a big shot. Just prayed Fundora would walk into his punch lol

If you rewatch the Brian mendoza fight you can see hes consistently getting on the inside and landing hard shots on fundora before he got the KO. Thurman spent the first 4 rounds on his bike trying to land a single shot from the outside. And by the time the midrounds came around and he tried getting on the inside his face was already swollen and bruised pretty good.

And Keith doesnt have the chin/toughness of Mendoza (who I think has never been knocked down despite fighting big punchers like Jesus Ramos, Bohachuk, Tim Zoo, Fundora, and others)
>>
>>154067537
Everyday I'm baffled at Thurman's game plan. I understand wanting to try something that's never been tried before, but Fundora's only loss comes from a guy being on the inside. His lowlights all come from getting wailed on by guys on the inside (Lubin, Mendoza, Tim). Instead of staying at long-long range, why not spend camp working on how to get close without turning into a busted cherry tomato? It's very hard fighting Fundora on the inside, and it's even harder to get to a comfortable place on the inside. But it's impossible to beat Fundora on the outside. Very very silly plan from a guy who's been fighting since the 2000s

>120k in attendance for Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney
Will this attendance record ever be broken?
>>
>>154079645
Has that not been broken with Floyd vs Manny? I've actually been thinking about the biggest fight of all time in boxing. Technically it's Floyd vs Manny, but sure you have to account for the world population at the time, right?
>>
>>154079723
Definitely not attendance in person, Floyd Pac was in the MGM Grand. Maybe with total paid including PPV
>>
>>154079789
I feel like you have to include PPV. They're technically in attendance, watching the fight with their own eyes instead of listening to a radio or something. Do we even have a stadium that big today?
