Gent Wevelgem 2020:

Van Aert: 'Van der Poel rode to make me lose'
Wout van Aert was clearly irritated after the race by the racing behavior of his eternal rival Van der Poel. The Belgian from Jumbo-Visma seemed the strongest in the finale, but every move was countered by Van der Poel. "It was the same person sitting on my wheel every time. Van der Poel needs to understand that I have already won quite a bit this year and that I therefore dare to take risks. Now neither of us has anything," said Van Aert afterwards.

>"Without that crash, I think there was definitely more in it this week. It is a shame that happened, but that is just the way it is. So we can draw few conclusions from the general classification."

Fortunately, I was able to finish the lap and together with Lipo (Lipowitz, ed.) we still achieved a good result."

Says who? Because my understanding is he's gotten back a lot of the love he had now the dust has settled. People realise he's a sociopath, but now he also realises that and admits it. He was the ultimate athlete. And he seems genuinely accepting that his behaviour wasn't perfect which should be the only gripe anyone has over him. I assume the media outlet understand this and believe the same, which is why they're using his name as a compliment. Because it's one of the highest compliments in sport. Lance is a legend of sport, let alone cycling. Did way more good than people are willing to accept.

>>154060851
You do know that people knew what was going on right? And they were taking a gamble, trusting that the entire sport wouldn't be busted, which it was in the end. People who were trying to expose the cheating, which basically the entire peloton was 'cheating', were risks to the sport. They expose cheating and everyone goes down. So that circle has a duty to deal with people who step out of line. If they didn't like it they should leave the sport, because cycling has a very long history of 'cheating' so they knew what they were going into and have the moral chimp out. They were bitter, not moral crusaders. Everyone in the peloton knew, see Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton.

His competitive nature and treating people the way he did, I am completely okay with and now he's admitted it, so are many others. This moral white knighting is cringe. He was a phenominal athlete and a very admirable individual who broke into a very closely knit sport from the outside and completely dominated the biggest race on the planet. You don't have to like him but this white knighting is pathetic and cringe. People have moved on from that, he's been accepted by the public again.

Back to the point, it's very prestigious to be called the next Lance Armstrong, especially if the media outlet is Texan.

So in the first 3 months around 120 riders got injured with the majority from a crash in a race
This seems really high but when I look at 2025 there were also around 120 injuries in the same period
In 2024 there were also around 120 crashes in this period
But then there was a steep drop in 23 and 22 with only 80 crashes in the first 3 months
Going back to 21 and 20 it goes to under 50 in both years

So I dont know how or why but its safe to say that something pushed the riders and made them a lot more reckless in the last 3 years

Pogacar's Roubaix 2025 is very similar to his Ronde 2022. Who do you want to win Roubaix? Out of the favourites I think I would be happy to see any of them win it. Wout would be my #1 choice if not for the Slovenian trying to complete the set. Grug would be alright because he's Grug and who doesn't love that guy. Mads would be very cool. Maybe Philipsen would be a bit lame.

Oliver Naesen about Gent - Wevelgem:
>I had taken quite a lot of wind in my positioning for Tobias on the Plugstreets. Wout is on my left and Mathieu on my right. I say to Mathieu: 'it would suit me well if we didn't go too hard right now, I've just taken quite a bit of wind.' He says to me: 'no stress, we want to sprint.' It was pretty remarkable that he just said it to me so matter-of-factly. He told me it was 'privileged information', so I said okay, then I won't tell my team either. And I didn't, of course.

Does this answer your question? Lance was the most doped of a relatively clean (weak) era, his performances don't even rival those of 90s dopeurs at their peak.

desu that retard was holding back
>>
>>154077584

Lance might be weaker but he would bully memco, fish, and poggers so hard they would quit the sport.
>>
>>154077625
Not on these specific stages, I think.
2002 his team paced from the bottom, and he attacked and went solo at about 6 km from the finish.
2004 again his team paced from the bottom and he attacked, only Basso was able to follow and it seemed they were cooperating decently well.

>Less than a month before the start of the WorldTour event, scheduled for April 28th in Villars-sur-Glâne for the usual prologue, the Swiss organizer is without a main sponsor and therefore without the logo for its yellow leader's jersey. This represents a significant 10% shortfall in the budget of approximately 4.5 million Swiss francs for the week-long race.
>Richard Chassot, the race director, made no secret of his concern to the media outlet. “If someone wants to become the main sponsor for this edition, it’s almost mission impossible,” he laments, citing time and organizational constraints. “Or, we might find a patron who is happy to be seen on our yellow jersey, who appreciates the visibility, and who feels they want to contribute to saving the Tour de Romandie.”
>The words used by the Swiss organizer are strong: “save the Tour de Romandie.” Is the race in danger? “We have enough to run an edition without support for the yellow jersey,” the organizer continues, adding that his team is still paying the price for the Covid period, which “eaten up part of the reserves” of the spring competition. “Without a sponsor or title sponsor for 2027, we won’t be able to maintain our financial stability,” Richard Chassot insists. The organizers have no intention of dropping down a level to ProSeries and are determined to keep their race on the WorldTour calendar in the future.
>The 79th edition of the Tour de Romandie will take place from April 28 to May 3. The winner will succeed Portugal's João Almeida, who won last year ahead of Lenny Martinez. As a reminder, the Tour de Romandie has also included a women's race since 2022.

their base is covered by public and lottery funds. but considering that there are some really big and rich companies along lake Geneva, it's strange that they can't find a sponsor.
>>
>>154082849
If the race dies, the prestige of winning it in the long term will too. Merckx won many races which not held anymore, but those are today not considered as important as victories in races still on the calender.
Tour of California is now best known for who won its last edition, not as a race which winning it confers prestige.
>>
dogshit april fools
>>
>>154082849
the tour de romandie has never really held much prestige for me.

tour de suisse people always considered like an unofficial 4th grand tour. But I feel recently it's lost some of its grandeur because more riders opt to ride the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as a preview for the TDF; as it's been dwarsdoorvlaanderenified where it becomes more a secondary race to a bigger upcoming event

also european teams don't like being in switzerland because then they can't use their mobile data and they have to exchange all their euros for swiss francs

Sucker punch somebody in the peloton.
Super glue your own ass to the asphalt
Steal some bikes from the owners of the different teams

You think it's cool
Well, act a fool if you like

Yell at a rider
Spit in his face

Stomp on a jersey and light it up
Yeeeaah you think you're tough

Well, try that in a small race
See how far you make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small race

So, it happened AGAIN. We can blame team, we can blame fatigue, we can praise Top GANNA's effort but the truth is it's simply not enough. Tactics, determination you name it, it all stinks.

Don't get me wrong, I still have full faith in Visma and the lads, but MASSIVE dopage is desperately needed in the mid season. Otherwise I'm not very optimistic about this season, or our chances in the monuments for that matter. Not running like this.
>>
this was like a paris roubaix simulator for ganna, he broke a wheel and his handlebars and had to come back a bunch of times but he used the old adage of "just keep pedalling" and somehow won

>Tragedy for Van Aert. It's almost a tragedy for Van Aert in this race. Two years ago he had six months ruined by a nasty crash, last year he suffered his most embarrassing defeat to Powless, and now he is picked up a few meters from the line. What should have been a great victory now ended with another one of his numerous 2nd places, of which he has so many. And he was also picked up just before the line on Sunday! Poor man!
>>
Interesting thought exoeriment: is there a rider who would exchange his first and second placings? Like for Pogacar, he would trade 4 Tours for 2 Tours, so clearly not him.
But Wout?

Pogacar can burn more matches on Sunday with a big solo effort. All part of the master plan so he is not a threat in Roubaix (where Wout will win)

Anyone that missed it, Italy FAILED to qualify for the world cup for the 3rd time in a row. They are in shambles from a sports perspective. Have they got any decent up and coming riders? I've been out the loop the past year. Absolutely cooked as a sporting nation.
