Back then the players actually grew up in America with american parents and played with american teams, the players played with passion and loved representing USA. Nowadays the USMNT is full of uppity ethnics that were born to migrant families and play in euro clubs. If your local league is garbage then the players that come from it can only be good if they train and play somewhere else, and the only way you can have good players in your NT is if they care about giving it their all for the flag.
Also, avoid expats, the only expat that performed for us this century is Nico Paz and his sample of games is small, and he's a Real Madrid academy product with a former NT player as his dad.
An expat who is more focused on going back to his club to play is the worst combo, avoid it at all times.
