So no, common sense does not dictate that. Then, it's really hard to actually really hard to be a genuine major league player at both sides. And that fact is what makes Ohtani who he is. Even if he only hit 20 HR's a year and pitched to a 3.5 ERA. Most hitters don't crack 20 dingers a season, and 3.5 ERA makes you a starter that doesn't have to move to the bullpen when the playoffs start. The majority of guys have trouble cracking those stats while focusing on one side full time, and somehow you think guys who can crack those numbers working on both sides part time grow on trees.The exceptionally athletic can get away with two-waying in HS because most pitchers don't throw hard, nor do they throw good breaking balls, and on the mound, if you can touch 90+, you're a really HS pitcher. In college, 2-waying is more rare, but you can still get away with it, but pro ball is generally where it gets cut because guys who 2-way are generally way better at one side, and their best chance of making it pro is just focusing on what they already have an advanced skillset on after the fact.
