I’ve been a Flyers fan for my entire life and it has been so bad for my mental health. (All Philly sports really.).Regular season losses in October & November would ruin my days until the next game. I would dwell on the disappointment and took it extremely personal.When visiting my now wife in college in NYC, I wore Flyers gear just to piss off all of the NY fans because hockey fandom was always on my mind.Even if a major depressive period when having very dark thoughts, I knew I had to stay alive with the hope that the Flyers would soon win the Stanley Cup.We’d lose games and I’d end up getting temp banned (or have accounts banned completely from this sub) for getting worked up, fighting with people and saying crazy shit.Over the last 5 years, I’ve gotten very good at dealing with these emotions and Philly losses. (Super Bowl , World Series, and MLS Cup all in one season?! Playoff collapses by the Phils? 76ers woes? ). All of it got easier to handle, especially when I realized that even if my teams lose, I still have all of my hobbies, interests, responsibilities, and whatnot outside of Philly sports.This has been my biggest test though, because the Flyers will always be my #1 team, and I haven’t had a real test since the bullshit playoffs in 2019/2020 in the bubble.Honestly, I’m doing well. Although I’m getting the itch to fucking EXPLODE. I’m trying to keep it together.Maybe I’ll go read a book. Maybe I’ll listen to my huge vinyl collection. Play some video games.But still… FLYERS IN 7. LETS GO
