Why I'm in favor of trading for Nemec:If he's requested a trade, that's a big start. It's much like the Askarov situation - it puts a bit of a damper on trade value since the GM doesn't want to risk losing them to somewhere else, be it free agency or a league overseas.I won't say Nemec is the second coming of Christ, but he's got a lot of upside for a young guy. Contributes a lot at even strength (ten EV goals last year), advanced metrics of 52% on both Corsi and Fenwick, one playoff run where he did kick in two points in four games, and he's had great AHL season too.While some may think he's complaining too much, or being a diva and hasn't shown the ability, let's look at the Devils as a team and see where he lands.The Devils D core consists of Dougie Hamilton, Luke Hughes, Nemec, Jonas Siegenthaler, Brendon Dillon, Jonathan Kovacevic, and Brett Pesce.Of those seven men, Nemec was third in defensive scoring, second in goals (outscored Luke Hughes), third with 1 PP goal, tied with Pesce for second-to-last in plus-minus, third with 101 shots and 269 Shot attempts, and second in blocks and takeaways.He did that all while having ranking fifth in total TOI. Meaning he played less minutes than fourth other guys, including Siegenthaler and Dillon, whom he outplayed handily and the numbers back it up. If I'm 22 and trying to make an impact, I'd be mad too.Does he make boneheaded plays? Does he screw up? Does he need to get better? Yes, yes to all of them. But he is 22, and he's not going to get the opportunity here for some reason.Lots of folks seem to think the Devils will trade Hamilton before they move Nemec - Hamilton was actually statistically their best producing D man last year. Add to that, Dougie has a NMC. Meaning he can't be moved or bought out without his approval.The Devils are completely hamstrung here, and we have a chance to get a young guy with big upside for a potentially bargain return. Take the shot - now is the best time.
