That shot yesterday of Pogacar and del Toro on trainers after the stage, where it looked like Pogaxar was nagging del Toro:
Pogacar was saying that del Toro did not accelerate within himself, and that Vingegaard knew that and that is why Vingegaard did not follow. Then Pogacar said that he was just, and that if the top was a kilometer further then he... Then the audio and video cut to runners finishing 20 minutes behind.

Noticed same thing yesterday.

>modest, soft spoken
>barely attacks, just rides along as long as possible
>good in long, steep mountains
>no punchy climber, not the greatest time trialist

Only thing he's missing is the constant dropoff over the years that Bookman had, we'll see how that turns out. Somehow it feels that his last year was already his peak. Of course I hope that I'm wrong, and that he can consistently compete for GT top 5. Also Bora isn't really committed to him, with Evenepoel they brought in another egomaniac, just like Roglic before. Seems like Red Bull will just pump in money for big names, regardless of team chemistry. Funny somehow that this strategy is what you would expect from a team like UAE, yet they don't have such problems.

>Broadcasters in France and Spain have submitted a complaint to FIFA over its decision to include ExpressVPN as an official World Cup sponsor. ExpressVPN, a virtual private network service which protects a user’s privacy on the internet, was announced as an official World Cup partner before the start of the tournament and has featured on advertising boards during matches.

>‘The fact that FIFA is signing a partnership with a company whose service actively facilitates the piracy of sports content sends a disastrous message to the entire football ecosystem. >I rank Jasper Philipsen as no. 3, but it is not with enthusiasm. Yesterday he seemed to struggle to hold Merlier's wheels, and although Merlier is the fastest, in Belgium we saw that they were much more equal. In the intermediate sprints, he has also sprinted disappointingly, and today he was beaten quite regularly on speed by Max Kanter.

>At least it doesn't look like a Philipsen with the speed he usually has, and yesterday he also said that he didn't have much to shoot with in the sprint. When I still rank him as no.3, it is because of the train. It went wrong yesterday, but it may well be due to the crash. Knowing how Mathieu van der Poel can drive the lead-out, it's hard not to believe in a formation with Jonas Rickaert, Edward Planckaert, Van der Poel and Philipsen. That matters less in this simple finale, but Philipsen is still the rider with the best chance of being put up from the lead. And even though he has sprinted disappointingly, there are still few who can go past him.

So maybe the plan is two up attack so burrito gets second. Why would you want Jonas to come with you? To blow him up? Jonas seems to know his numbers very well and is increasingly dropping off as soon as he sees its too fast for him. Not sure what he's getting at really, other than burrito going slower so he can stay with pogacar, which won't happen if pogacar is gunning for it.
>>
>>156568411
I only posted this because some dumb Spanish speakers posted a clip with the first sentence Pogacar says cut off, and claimed Pogacar is denigrating Vingegaard. The whole exchange shows that Pogacar is criticizing, if anyone, del Toro, and says nothing negative about Vingegaard.
>>
Pogacar gained 30s on 4.6km about 8.6%, 40s on 20km descent, and 88s on 18.7km 3.7% climb

>>156568601
Is there something I'm missing? I can't see what burrito did wrong. He went deep, got a big gap straight away then drifted back to G3 and won the sprint. He's still favorite for 3rd overall. I cannot see what poogacar wanted him to do different other than stick with poogacar or Jonas. This is where he comes off arrogant. I can't see why he's having to give an in depth coaching session right after the finish, in front of cameras as burrito can barely breath. I might be missing some tactical genius plan but burrito isn't sticking with poogacar and he's unlikely to stick with Jonas even if he didn't go so deep.

That's such bullshit reasoning.
You don't cry about a car company being a sponsor even though it is used to commit crimes and run people over.
You don't cry about MCdonalds, soda and energy drink sponsors even though it has disastrous effects on public health.
But a service that annoys ad companies because it's harder to target their ads (and use piracy as an excuse), OH BOY THAT'S A BAD THING

>>
>>156569537
Yes infrastructure uses VPN's but how hard would it be to ban public use VPN's? Not very I'd imagine. The online safety act is already a spurious law that can be twisted and manipulated to meet the needs of the police and government. We have a police state except the police are pathetic and don't tackle actual crime. I think it's 80% of car thefts go unsolved in the UK. In london that's 90%. Other figures I've seen estimate even higher percentages are unsolved. And this goes for basically every other crime. Except those against the state and it's evil policies. Getting pretty bad to say the least.

That's not true, he tried to attack yesterday over the top of Tourmalet, and he also attacked multiple times last year, on one occasion even shooting himself in the foot (Loze stage). Sadly he's just not good enough to make his attacks stick at this level of racing.

Jonas pre-race interview with Danish media TV2:
>“I don’t know if anything really went wrong (yesterday). It was simply that I couldn’t follow,” says Jonas Vingegaard.
Have you figured out why?
>"No, not really. I think maybe he was just better yesterday. I have to accept that and hope I can improve as the race goes on.”
Where do you think it will be possible to make up some time?
>"I think—and maybe this has been our plan all along—that I’ll get better as the race progresses. We’re hoping the final two weeks will suit me better and that I can make the difference there."
>"I don’t actually think I had an off day yesterday. He was simply stronger, and I have to accept that. That’s how cycling is sometimes. We’re definitely not giving up, and we still believe in it. There are still a lot of days left before Paris.”

I was thinking from the legislation point of view. Ban something quite easily, like how they're trying for smartphone bans for kids. Is it going to be enforced? No, maybe spot checks for optics. But the whole point is introducing more government laws which can be pulled out your arse to justify arrests and convictions. They have a bunch of laws like that now, one is public order offence where if they think you're causing 'distress' to other people (police use this when they feel distressed to justify their arrests also) then they can arrest you. What causes distress? Anything really. Genuine authoritarianism.

After rewatching yesterdays Tourmalet its pretty clear the whole plan of UAE was to 1-2 attack with Pog and Del Torro all the way to the finish. But Del Torro blew himself up in the initial acceleration. He later recovered a bit but the whole plan was to for Del Torro to also put a minute into Vingegaard. That really shows the mindset within UAE. They dont just want to win the Tour they want to be 1 and 2.
Im sure the rest of the Tour will be in this direction.

The tourmelet is too steep to get a meaningful tow though, so he'd have to hold a higher pace man vs man against Jonas, after an acceleration. Jonas sped up too to catch poogacar, then poogacar stepped on it. Gap over the top wasn't really that big either.

You can't just tow burrito up a climb like that. He's having to hold his own, they they must have believed that he's stronger than Jonas. Maybe I'm missing something. The idea they'd duo away and finish 1-2 is very ambitious for burrito.
>>
>>156570397
They obviously thought it possible because they obviously tried it. Rewatch the moment Burrito takes over and goes for a while with Pog in his wheel. Then Burrito and Pog share a look/word when Burrito is slowing down, then Burrito hangs on to Pog for a while.

> “Everything has been settled between Lipowitz and me,” he told VTM NIEUWS before the start of the seventh stage. “We went over it in a discussion with everyone, and now we have to move on. What happened yesterday is in the past. It was just a moment in the race.”

> Zak Dempster, Chief of Sports at Red Bull, also had the chance to explain the situation today. “Remco was frustrated because he wanted to finish third. Why didn’t ‘Lipo’ take over? He was still in the lead before that, but when Remco tried to make a lead-out, he couldn’t get there anymore. It comes down to fractions of a second. That can happen. But we’ve had a debrief, and everything’s okay again.”

> Did that little incident cause some unrest in the Red Bull camp? “Remco wears his heart on his sleeve. In the heat of the moment. Everyone’s human. What matters most to me is how they’re getting along now—and how they’re resolving things internally. That’s a constant process of improvement. If you want to compete for top results, that’s just part of the game at this level.”

it is quite incroyable, but if it were dyed, then, reasonably assuming he wouldn't bother with re-dying it during a race, at the end of a tour de france (that he cared to participate in) we would see about a centimeter of dark regrowth near the roots. I might be underinformed but I don't think anyone has seen that on Wout ever. That's not a certain proof but an argument none the less. Personally I'm easily convinced as in my own hairline I also have a patch of odd hairs laid out similarly to Wout's blonde patch, i.e. with big presence in the center and extending to the left somewhat more than to the right. In my case though they're not miscoloured, instead significantly kinkier than the rest and with far shorter terminal length

>Bottom line: Remco is explosive and strong in time trials, but Lipowitz looks more consistent in the high mountains where the Tour will likely be decided. Unless Remco gains significant time in upcoming TTs or attacks successfully, Lipowitz is favored to finish ahead of him. The internal team friction could hurt both. The race is far from over, though — mountains and time trials can still shift things.

So what bright spots does Visma | Lease a Bike see ?
>“Mainly how good Jonas is at the moment, physically speaking,” the team manager tells Wielerflits. “And how we assess it compared to Pogačar; that it is very close.

>Naturally, Jonas was disappointed yesterday. Losing 2 minutes and 40 seconds is not what we had in mind. It was quite close on the climbs, and that is something we are holding on to.

And does the big picture at Visma | Lease a Bike for this Tour de France need to be overhauled now?
> “Not very much. We have a plan; that is what we went into the Tour with. We didn't foresee this loss of time, but that doesn't mean we have to do anything differently. We will fight for every second for the next two weeks.”

"Craziest stat about Pogacar on Tourmalet is on Strava : he took one minute on the main group in only 8 minutes (3 km segment). Then deliberately slowed down. That’s a 50 to 60 watts difference"

Extra time? Spaniards are fucking cheesy with their sports. They seems to get strokes of luck. They're a good side but that goal was not very good. That is the sort of shit hispanics and italians get lucky with.

Seeds actually look really fun potentially. Spain vs France will be good. They also have national rivalries. England vs Argentina will ignite WW3. Need both to win for the giga kino. If England beat the argies then we can 100% expect another Falklands war by the end of the year. Imagine if Rice snaps Messi's ankle. This could be a historic game.

Not really. Any merlier stage is worth skipping. He wins the most boring uneventful stages I notice.

His eyes are on the Vuelta and the fish factory.

Makes you wonder why Riccò bothered dopping when you could go entirely clean and make the Tourmalet 6 minutes faster

>Tim Merlier dedicates his sprint victory in Bordeaux to Bertrand, who drove him to races for years, but who passed away just before the finish.

>“The man who has driven my brother and me to races since I was twelve is dying. This one is for him. I hope he saw it,” said an emotional Tim Merlier after crossing the finish line first in Bordeaux.

>“Unfortunately, Bertrand De Keyzer didn’t make it. He passed away today at 4:20 PM,” said the mayor of Oudenaarde, who learned the news from the man’s daughter. “Bertrand was a wonderful guy, with whom I was also good friends. What a classy gesture that was from Tim. But it is so sad that Bertrand couldn’t experience it,” said Adam.
that is really sad

/r/equesting the vuelta 2019 collague. I'm feeling nostalgic.
>>
>>156595507
Ricco also rode on a shitty bike that was probably 10-20w slower than modern bikes, and in an era where pros trained fasted and ate 30g rice cakes during races. That argument is so tired

Have you ever ridden an aero bike old man? Or perhaps tried a heat training cycle? Literally scientifically proven to increase hemoglobin content and TTE. Advancements in literally everything imaginable yet you old farts still scream at the clouds.
