McDonald Jones Stadium
1.22-4.35
>Sunday afternoon action heads to Newcastle's McDonald Jones Stadium, where the Knights aim to strengthen their finals positioning against the Titans. The Knights held on for a 30-24 win over Canberra in Round 23, while the Titans collapsed to an 8-30 defeat against North Queensland. Newcastle welcomes back centre Bradman Best and hooker Phoenix Crossland from calf injuries. Kalyn Ponga captains from fullback in his 150th game. Dom Young boasts an impressive record against the Titans, with 11 tries in six games. The Titans start Lachlan Ilias at halfback, shifting AJ Brimson back to centre, while rookie Bodhi Sharpley debuts off the interchange. Newcastle won the previous Round 11 clash 36-12 on the Gold Coast. The Knights hold an 18-15 lead in overall head-to-head fixtures since 1998

Canberra are still mathematically a chance for finals on for and against, if other teams lose enough, they have to win it’s for their season.
Canterbury need to win too, they are four points outside after adjusting for upcoming byes, but this makes them vulnerable to St George who don’t want the spoon.
The Broncos don’t think they can get the spoon, they are complacent, and they don’t seem to care about it anyway

In 1992, the top five 1991 NSWRL finalists all finished outside the top five and missed the '92 finals. Western Suburbs Magpies were the only team to play finals in both '91 and '92, finishing sixth in '91--which had a top six finals series, and fifth in 1992--which has a top five finals series.

I could have sworn the Raiders made the finals in 1992, but I was wrong.thanks for the info. I would point out that it is harder to miss the top 8 finals than it is the top 5 finals, so I think it is even more extraordinary.

Sorta. If two teams tied for 5th they ignored points difference and had a Tuesday night playoff. Even when you won, you lost cause the game against 4th the following weekend would be the 3rd in 10 days. Sometimes less

>The Herald Sun, The Age and Seven’s Caroline Wilson reported Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, James Jordon and Riley Bice were all questioned by police on Monday over the alleged incident at the Pullman Hotel.

I don't follow AFL but whenever I hear about one of their scandals it's always pretty fucking gnarly. And those Victorians are always acting high and mighty

NRL remains the family sport and AFL remains the icky rapey compensating sport and if you think about it AFL is a lot like big banks.

I'm new to rugby, what's all this about the NRL doing an investment into super league? Is it just a cash injection to help us out or are we going to merge both leagues?

I mean having to ask the aussies for a hand out is embarrassing but it's got to be done because they're so successful over there and since im a wigan warriors fan merging the leagues isn't a worry in my mind but surely the massive distance for matches makes it unfeasible especially for the smaller clubs? are aussies happy to merge with super league and/or give money to us or is the mood on the street FUCK THEM POMS?

I also don't know how a cash injection could really do much since sky already owns all the rugby league rights in here just like australia
>>
>>157391394
There won't be a merger. I just think the NRL wants to sell the game overseas and having a healthy league in Europe is in the best interest of the sport, especially if they want to sell these games in Vegas and wherever they want to host games in.
>>
>>157391428
do you think they could push to add more countries to the super league? warrington and wigan are doing a game in ireland so adding an irish team would be good and getting more french and european teams in would be good but radlinski said lots of smaller teams are moaning and don't want to expand the league obviously. The NRL should get in more kiwi teams and pacific island teams that would be nice
>>
iggs
>>
>>157391483
Not sure. It would be great the get some of the European countries more involved. It's pretty concerning that Wales, Ireland and Scotland aren't in this year's world cup. The Northern Englishman that run the Super League don't even like going as far as London
>>
>>157391551

we broke away and formed our own league to get away from those posh southern cunts. fuck 'em i hope union goes all the way back to amateur
>>
Playing the English rugby league in winter and setting up an annual test tournament will be the priorities.
>>157391551
They reduced the teams at wc from 16 to 10, and of those only England and France are northern hemisphere (Lebanon are going to be entirely foreign based players, basically all from Australia).
It’s precisely what should not have happened, the 16 teams was great we had the likes of Greece and Jamaica in there. Wales missing out is heavy. Union would be delighted.

If someone with plenty of money wants to set up a Dublin team along similar lines to Toronto Wolfpack, I think it’ll work here so long as they can get a decent home ground. There’s enough union players to poach from, as well as anyone in England with any Irish roots they might enjoy playing footy over here and getting paid. It’d have to start out in the lowest division, so we need to keep the pro/rel going for that. The local league here is pub team tier

do you guys even watch pooper peague or know of pooper peague??? fucking perplexing the responses to old mate
1st: most clubs are losing money and not 50 bucks I'm talking minimum £190,000 to £1,92m ($362,000 AUD - $3,60m AUD) a year
2nd: their entire coverage is kind of awful it has gotten better over the years but it still could be better
3rd: pic fucking related, how are advertisers meant to know which peem or which game to invest in and to sponsor, I hate ads and shit but come on, I don't care if its different countries, NZ is a different country, PNG will be too, the NRL will figure it out because they know people need to watch the games for the game to make money and to grow it
Pooper Peague needs someone from the NRL who knows what they're doing and who cares about putting bums on seats especially when they're at home, imagine if NRL's super saturday and all 3 games are at 4pm (irish will come out and say this is a great thing btw)
I understand NRL hesitation though because of the poor management of the pooper peague cause its a risk tbqh
>>
No, you’re right they should have each game in its own timeslot so people can watch every game. It works in NRL. That’s important and every game needs to be televised along with at least 2 per week on fta, again that has worked for the NRL, maybe even 3 per week say Friday night then Saturday arvo and Sunday arvo.
If you don’t have fta coverage you can’t attract new fans through the tv, nobody decides they’re going to become footy fans and then gets pay tv hooked up it’s only for hardcore fans who want to be able to watch every game or at least their team play every game.
They absolutely have to switch back to winter season, there’s two main reasons for this; people watch more tv in winter, and they will be able to hire mercenaries during NRL offseason. There’s a third benefit too in that union will hate league playing in winter again, and a fourth benefit is league fans can follow the cricket more properly if there’s no footy on during the height of cricket season. It’s a winter sport
>>
You guys know that while being amateur union expanded throught the world being played and watched in every continent, rugby league world cup started like 40 years before the union one and the union one mogs, union is played profesionally in every continent and its the dominant code in every country that plays both except australia

That being said nrl its a gem and they got a good mindset on how to grow their league and i hope they buy the superleague cause even if it gets big it will never get close to union in europe, you guys are just too behind to be a threat to union its like being afraid of sevens taking over
>>

Who the hell is Asher Chapman? Doesn't even look like a footy player
>>
>The Perth Bears have secured another NRL star of the future with the signing of promising young hooker Asher Chapman.

>The prodigiously talented 17-year-old from the Illawarra region of New South Wales has signed a three-year contract with the Bears.

>Chapman, who currently plays for the Illawarra Steelers in the Harold Matthews Cup, has represented the under-16s City side as well as starring for the under-16s Waratahs and Australian Schoolboys rugby union teams — underlining a rare dual-code pedigree as he commits his future to rugby league.

>Renowned for his hard edge, courage and well-rounded skill set around the ruck, Chapman has been identified by the Bears as a hooker ideally suited to the demands of the modern game.

>Chapman will complete an NRL pre-season training block in Perth on a train-and-trial deal before returning to NSW in 2027 to play SG Ball with the North Sydney Bears.

>He will then join the club’s Development Squad in 2028, and in 2029 he will progress to the Perth Bears’ Top 30 Squad.

>The Kiama teenager is the latest addition to the Bears’ emerging spine group featuring Mason Barber and Jasais Ah Kee along with NRL bloodied players Apa Twidle, Jack Cole and Niwhai Puru as the club builds sustainable and long-term future success by investing in the next generation of potential NRL stars.

Just a development player, not gonna take up a top 30 spot for a few years
