I swear it's worse than it used to be and teams are trending towards "safe" strats far too much. I don't understand why you would even bother with defensive strategies. The best defense in cricket, in the field at least, is offensive tactics but also lulling the opponent into a false sense of security with things like field placement. Australia is relatively decent with it (I remember watching Perth ashes with some boomers and they were talking about which ball was "the one", but felt like that was far too simplistic thinking), but I felt like South Africa wasn't quite getting it right (though I think Pollock mentioned "the ball" that was the plan for some batsman in the game, I just think it was a little predictable).Thing is, these strats often use static field placement and I think it could be much more hellish for batsman if you have to anticipate fielders repositioning themselves as the ball is bowled.I remember playing french cricket and it taught me that the best strat was to move while throwing the ball because then the batsman had to react to your repositioning as well as the ball.
