This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Best solution is to make them Diegetic.
Know how in 1981 Clash of the Titans movie where it occasionally zooms out to the gods playing hungry hungry hippos with the lives of men and they comment on what rube Perseus is?
If you want Fate Points to exist in setting then have them be the interest of the gods.
Make big sacrifices? Fate Points.
Do a job that's low pay but honours someone or helps someone favoured by them? Fate Points.
Roll a pair of 20s in a row? Give them a Lady Point and when they ask what that is tell them it's a fate point from The Lady and not to ask more.
They read the Necronomicon and become a crazy cultist mainlining your dark god? Fate Points out the wazoo.
>>
>>97251080
That's how you end up with isekai-tier "Everyone is aware of the mechanics and discusses things like classes and levels openly" silliness.
>>
>>97251080
Alternatively make them semi-diegetic. Like hit points, but for heroism. Most heroes in stories have an unreasonable faith that things will work out OK. Hero Points make that true, and when they've run out it's that crisis of faith Empire Strikes Back time until the hero gets their shit together and earns more.

>You're a punk because you're out to shake off the shackles of tradition and conformity through scientific and cultural breakthroughs to become the new captains of the world.
This is giga cope. Steampunk is just a branding for pulp fiction. Trying to shoehorn "punk" in doesn't actually work, and doesn't actually reflect the fiction and scene.

This is fine, since punk is pretty gay
>>
>>97251727
And actual cyberpunk works are mostly about people who are part of the System rather than people who are opposed to it.
>>
>>97251739
To be fair, readers are overwhelmingly part of the system, and so it's not really possible to persuade them to feel sympathy for punk without thoroughly illustrating what's wrong with the system / being part of the system.
The reason most -punk works follow characters who are part of the system is because those characters are dysfunctional as such or come into conflict with the system as part of the plot. This opposition to the system is what illustrates the inherent flaws in the system and thus allows the reader to develop a sympathy for the -punk philosophical thesis.
>>
>>97251768
I'd argue that means the work is inherently antipunk as the logical takeaway from such a setup is "the system is terrible but there is no other meaningful option to take." Essentially a Hobson's Choice disguised as revolutionary literature.

Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art. Are there rules in one of the advanced books covering if I want to para-drop troops and or battle armors out of an aircraft? Megamek has those options but I wanted to find the actual printed rules to get a better understanding
>>
>>97251627
Well I'm not sure how you'd go about that. With my original question, was thinking about how the pilot abilities would factor into battle value, but that clearly won't be an issue here.
>>
>>97251687
Strat ops. I think the most recent printings have the aerospace rules split out into their own book but they should be pretty much the same other than applying eratta.
>>
>>97251685
Quad BA could also use a melee option of some kind
>>
>>97251687
Dropping regular infantry out of a conventional plane is in Total Warfare, dropping anything else out of dropships or small craft is in Strat ops. There are different requirements if they're being dropped in atmosphere or from space.

3.0 D&D. I remember making my first dungeon and playing with one friend. Good times.

>BTQ
I used to. The last game I played that wasn't 5e was Genesys. I've played a bunch of others. I kind of miss other games but my group knows 5e well and I wanted to test 5.5e. 5.5e is basically the same, maybe slightly better. What draws me to 5e is the original vision of it. A quite basic game that you can then change to your liking through modular rules. WoTC completely fumbled the ball giving us those modular rules but third party and just general house rules make it work. I steal a lot from 3.5 and 4e for my games.
>>
>What edition got you into D&D?
The first time I was supposed to play D&D, it was 3.5. My buddy had us roll characters when we were on spring break but we got too high to actually play and then just never started up again for whatever reason. After years of trying to find someone willing to DM, I finally decided to DM myself this past year with 5e 2024.
>>
>Playing Curse of Strahd as a Barbarian.
>Artificer party member is annoying as fuck. Constantly argues with the DM.
>Got mad that his character was being ignored and left the game mid session. Only to come back a minute later and argue with the DM in front of the rest of the party instead of doing this in private.
>Whatever, we're in the Amber temple now.
>I find some tombs, they make my Barbarian evil but only I know this.
>Tell the DM in private that it'd be a fun twist if I turn on the party when we defeat Strahd and I'd be one final bossfight. DM allows it.
>For whatever reason he thought it was a good idea to tell the artificer this information.
>Next session, artificer spends half an hour asking if I was evil and me repeatedly telling him no. Told him that even if I were evil why would I tell him that? I get mad and tell him to shut up. For the rest of the campaign he would sporadically ask me if I was evil like it was the funniest bit ever.
>In castle Ravenloft, we eventually meet Strahd and his brides. Our bard was charmed during this.
>I was in the middle of telling the brides to walk away from this fight or we'd kill them too. Just a cool character moment before the final fight.
>Artificer decides to interrupt me and tell me to not say that because our Bard was charmed and would attack us if he knew we were gonna threaten Strahd even though we were literally about to fight him.
>Oh well we defeat Strahd and his brides.
>I reveal that I'm evil and will now kill them all.
>Our Bard snapped out of his Charm and defeats me.
>Since the bard and I were in the campaign the longest I thought it'd be a nice character moment to have my Barbarian say his final words to him.

I've been thinking about giving my chaos warriors Battle Hunger instead of Enhanced Reflexes recently. People seem to agree that ER can make a defensive chaos warrior regiment a lot better, but nobody seems to be giving BH a try. Surely a mini-swiftstride has to be good, right? Chaos warriors with great weapons (this could pair very well with that chaos lord build discussed earlier in the thread) or halberds could make use of it.

Defenses, yes. AC, no.
>>
>>97249902
AC is far more reliable than all that illusion stuff.
Looking at just the demons, already by CR 6 it begins to drop off with Babau who have See Invisibility and can spam Dispel against your illusions.
By CR 13 with stuff like Glabrezu many creatures start getting True seeing, blind fight, tremor-sense, life-sense.
one burst of Faerie Fire and your blurs and displacement do nothing. Some DMs let spells like Grease and Web place the target too if aimed to engulf the form rather than on the ground.
