You're projecting how religion works onto a field of study based on empiricism.
>>

>atheist doesn't care about truth
and water is wet
>>
>>97361745
atheists trust whatever scientists say not based on fact checking but solely on the fact that the guy saying it is a scientist
for example, the vax was deemed absolutely harmless because the scientists said so
when some joe schmoe read about it how it's produced and what how it affects the human body and how the whole thing was rushed to meet the quotas, he was shot down because he was "fearmongering" and "not a scientist"
then healthy people started dropping dead and/or getting their faces twisted and suddenly the vax "may" have some drawbacks on "some" people but now it's a fact because the scientists said it
then the pharmaceutical companies admitted it was rushed but it was ok because the science agreed with the joe schmoe but you should never listen to the joe schmoe who did his research without bias and using his own brain. He commited atheistic scientist heresy and should be burned at the proverbial stake
>>
>>97360557
Ah yes, it was called "historical inevitability" I believe.
>>
>>97361806
Again, you're projecting your own way of thinking onto people you deemed your enemies for some reason.
You can do double-slit experiment in your own garage, btw.

How tf a movie can cost 1 billion?

Are you Amish or something?
>>

Explain
Money laundering?
>>
>>97361788
A movie, to be profitable, needs to earn about 2.5 of its production budget
Outside of filming and editing, you need to also distribute it. If it's outside of the US, you need to pay foreign taxes. You also split income from tickets between the cinema, the distributor and the studio. There is also marketing involved, which in case of Avatar is basically a 2nd production budget.
So in the end, a movie that cost half 400 mil (already absurd sum) needs to earn a billion to even start being profitable.
Which is also why for past few years the blockbusters were all flops or near-flops, because when your movie costs 250 mil to make and you are making back 200 in box office, this means you are effectively half a billion in red, even if on paper it's "only" 50 mil missing.
>>
>>97361800
>Muh money laundering
>Retard goes full retard
Just consult >>97361809
On top of what that anon already covered, there is also a matter of how each party involved is getting paid. If they are paid % of the profits, no matter how worded, it is utmost priority of the studio to pretend the movie either earned less or was a complete bomb, allowing them to weasel out of paying someone few dozen millions.
The most famous case is Stallone being paid squat for Demolition Man, because the studio pretended it was a flop (despite 160 in box office and another 80 in rentals). When he decided to finally take them to court and thus expose their crooked books, the studio instead paid him 20 mil (which is about thrice what he would earn from that contract) just to keep it company secret how much the books are cooked.

Seeing space marines without big shoulder pads and stompy boots makes me irrationally angry
>>
>>97360601
The most anoying part is not just the armour design, is the absolutely lack of care for the SM concept, and the prostitution of the brand adding more and more slightly different marine types with overlapping roles.
Regular marines are the universal soldiers, they should be able to do almost everything in a decent way.
Now there are 3+ types of phobos plus original scouts. God knows how many different types of range marines all with the same gun like eldars, as many heavy and jetpack marines plus terminators.
The bloat is endless.
>>
>>97360810
I think the Primaspect Warrior approach is too deeply embedded to go away by this point but at least GW seems to be slowly reintroducing/refreshing the pre-Primaris elements of the army, I wouldn't be surprised if we see new Tactical and Devastator squads in the near-ish future. If those get updated the range will have everything you need to make an old-style Marine army with entirely new/current units.

I'm really not looking forwards to the Rhino chassis vehicles being inevitably squatted though, they look miles better than their Primaris replacements.
>>
>>97360601
>gee, your mom let you have FOUR antennas?
>>
>>97361215
I thought they were in the process of squatting pre-primaris marines desu.

Oh shit, ironically the melee counter to EW terminators might be... Deathshroud :O!
They counter specific counters to terminators (EW) just like how Phoenix termies counter the other usual counter to termies (Assault Vets).
I like how every unit has a niche instead of overlapping, otherwise everyone would just eclipse Praetorian termies
>>
>>97361448
In 1.0 scythes were a fast axe. In 2.0 they were a reaping two handed power sword (equivalent stats to terranics but for killing hordes instead of murdering singles).
I reckon in 40k they are the biggest weapon for nurglites, and so they can act like hammers when they need to...but I do admit their fluff says they exist to enable the outnumbered to fight back.
It's just their stats for single combat are disappointing

I've under-estimated deathshroud once, and had a unit get treated by the full shoot-volley-gun them down rotation of five deathshroud. Not letting them get anywhere near my infantry after that one.

>>
>>97361478
Because that's when your elven parents start trusting you to do shit outside the village. <100 elves are still "treated" like kids so they have no real responsibilities besides learning and playing. No game I know limits you to playing >100 year old elves, just be prepared to be treated differently by older elves and you can't do the wise elf with disdain for younger races schtick anymore.
>>
>>97361659
> just be prepared to be treated differently by older elves
How would an older elf even know wheter or not some stranger elf is 30 years old or 110 year old. Visually, there shouldnt be any difference. And its a stranger, from a different town, different kingdom, different place.
>>
>>97361688
Brother I'm not a scholar on the ageing physical characterstics of fictional non-existent species. Nowhere is it mentioned that there are no observable physical changes after the stated "physical maturity". Maybe the changes are more subtle and takes an elven eye trained over centuries to see, or maybe they're invisible. All depends on how your GM takes it. Now stop asking stupid shit.

>How exactly does explore work? Do you find planets to settle like in TI?
I don't think TI4 even has exploration, unless an expansion added that.

In Eclipse, you start off with only your home base and the galactic center revealed. Everything else is revealed with explore actions and involves drawing+placing random hex tiles. There are 3 sectors:
1) 1 distance to galactic center. Highest risk of NPCs, best reawards on average.
2) 2 distance to galactic center. Medium risk, medium reward.
3) 3+ distance. Lowest risk, lowest reward.

When you explore a tile, if there are no NPCs, you get to expand there, colonise the planets (if any), and take a discovery tile. Otherwise you have to clear away NPC ships first before you can do the same. It's more costly, but NPC-protected systems ALWAYS have a discovery tile and USUALLY have better planets for colonisation.

It's great fun and kind of necessary to spice up the game, but it's the biggest source of variance in the game. Someone might draw absolute garbage systems one after another, while someone else gets a bunch of free real estate in turn 1. Likewise with discovery tiles, all of them are be useful to some degree, but some will propel you massively forward and some are situational at best.

So the games tend to have a couple of clear leaders just based on the initial explorations and there can be little counterplay to directly contest them for the majority of the game.

cont.

>factions
7 in the base game: 6 aliums with one generic hoo-man faction on the flipside of each alium. I would say they all have a pretty good niche in their playstyle which is based in the core concepts of the game. These are good at expanding, these are good at research, these are good at fighting, these are good at building type of thing.

I have 4 expansion races, and kind of similar to Dune's expansions, they are interesting but trend in a more weird direction that doesn't flow quite as naturally from the core design or have as strong an identity. Unlike Dune at least, all factions are not inherently interlinked or balanced around each other being present, so it doesn't really matter as long as you like it. Just a small observation.

While osmosisposting is a problem, getting a name wrong might well just be a case of remembering it wrong. At some point in these threads I remember getting unreasonably annoyed by someone repeatedly calling Salina something like Serina, but that anon appeared to still kmow the substance of the lore while getting the name wrong. Bigger problem than mistakes with names are people coming in with assumptions and expectations not based on anything in the books and then acting like the game's in the wrong for not matching those assumptions and expectations.

I'll be honest, while the Low Key thing is a tip-off, I'm pretty sure he's osmosisposting rather than having read the source material without being biased ahead of time because the way he described No Key is very reminiscent of the way I was wanking him in the threads to prove a point on mortal potential a few years ago. I thought it was just a mistake last thread because he hadn't done that yet.

Must the Cherion Group always be played in an antagonist role? Could there be a way they could be treated as the good guys in some way? Not a fan of how they always write it in the books like "you're the bad guy, you do it only for profit".
I'd love a chronicle that has Network Zero recon and interviewers, Null Mysteriis researchers and Cherion Group field control working to understand the supernaturals.
Also the research Cherion makes doesn't seem serious compared to Taskforce: Valkyrie or Null Mysteriis. Feels more like they just dissect the monster and take what works without understanding it.

>>97361346
Aren't they sorta tolerated by the Beast Courts for some reason?
They always seemed like a weird inclusion when there's already a "wyrmist but not completely evil" faction of Ananasi, the Anatara do the whole "wyrm-corrupted" thing too and are just less Asian about it, and even the name was already taken by the Kumoti, who are the Wyld-aligned ones to begin with.

I've seen different artistic renditions of the Emperor but what is cannon? Have the last 10,000 years on the Golden Thrown mummified him or is He still soft flesh and blood?

I really enjoyed starting Iconoclast in the game because it was giving me the options, and then watching myself slowly becoming more Dogmatic over time as the reality set in. That was a really cool bit to have.

Why would anyone care? Pointlessly clarifying vague setting details has been the undoing of everything good about 40k.

Yeah, fair enough, and I generally agree.

So I see the replies so far have been somewhat misinformative. Genestealers are sent out into space to infiltrate societies. They do this by first tainting the genepool. Despite what other anons have said this is not through rape or even sex. The genestealer will attack someone, and stab them with their tongue. This deposits a mutating strain into the victim's DNA, and they are let go. The person then goes on the reproduce, with each subsequent generation getting more mutated. It's very subtle at first so as not to draw attention. Meanwhile the genestealer developes into a Patriarch, and their psychic influence strengthens to the point they are a proper psyker. This new power allows the patriarch to begin whispering to the mutated across the world, and gathering them to him. He's seen as an angel come to herald the arival of the "true" Four-armed Emperor. The cultists begin infiltrating planetary systems, getting jobs or positions of trust and power so when the hive fleet arrives the planet will be crippled to defend itself. This all can take centuries which is fine as it helps the slow, subtle transformation to occur, establish itself, and hive fleets don't have faster than light capabilities anyway.
