What is the best TTRPG for a Kenshi Campaign?
>>97252652GURPS. Alternatively, any other system that is capable of handling dismemberment, combat, wide array of skills and travel well. Hell, you can homebrew D&D and it'll be exactly that.
>>97252652Honestly, GURPS or Savage Worlds, I recommend the latter.
GURPS with After the End I guess but I confess to never having read AtE.
>>97252652Given the heavy focus on resource scarcity, brutal high cost combat, and an emphasis on creating warbands, you may have a hard time finding an existing ttrpg to fit kenshi. For a similar setting I wound up just making my own system. Basically just start with what's important to the vibe you're going for and work out from there.

That's about 30 stat points, at 6 per level. For abilities and skills it's more up to you and what you think she would be focusing on, she did learn Holy Magic on top of whatever else tho so there's that.
>>97253672Cool, I’ll figure it out. I also remember Liam gave her a cool sword. Also, what’s the level cap for a skill? 100?
>>97253626Wasn't it raised after? I vaguely remember that.
>>97253675>I also remember Liam gave her a cool sword.Ah yes, the fishsword, one of his finest creations. Still Fire/Holy despite appearances, very confusing for enemy and wielder alike.> Also, what’s the level cap for a skill? 100?Skills don't really have levels, they may have upgratded versions like Evade II or similar like in Yaofan's profile, those would probably go up to 10 or so, levels there are more significant. If you mean Abilities/Professions like fishing or swordamnship then yes, I think that's how we are doing it. They go up to 100, then they upgrade to a higher rank, from copper to bronze to iron and so on, each rank being 100. As for game level cap, we don't really have one.
After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session. Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away. And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.>4e books are ~10-15$ now. Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch. Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings? >4e thread I guess
>>97248098Yeah, early on with the low HP it's swingy as hell but that's their problem. I did warn them to bring their a game and they're all experienced players.
>>97235255Use the Gamma World rules that were built off 4e instead of 4e. It was a much better game.
>>97248103Been doing this a long time, but I'd enjoy seeing you explain how I'm wrong about the game's assumptions and game flow.
>>97247763Its really funny how random Dungeon articles btfo the entire first 1-30 Adventure Paths. It definitely didn't help 4e's reputation when the first year of pre-made were all unfocused and sloggy. When I first played 4th Edition back in 2011/2012 my DM ran us through Keep on the Shadowfell and The Slaying Stone back to back and the difference in quality was night and day. KotS felt so disjointed with half of it being bounty hunting a random goblin while also dealing with a death cult. Meanwhile SS was so open and let us make choices and all the side objectives weren't out of the way and felt natural. And who would have guessed but fat gremlin Mike Mearls helped write the dogshit adventure and he's greasy paws had nothing to do with the good one.

>>97253601You reckon they could still manufacture it? I would have assumed it was lost tech. The wiki mentions that power armour was passed down from knight to knight and the planet was dying due to the beasts killing more and more people. A pre-industrial feudal planet with a dwindling population would presumably not have any factories/tools capable of creating something like that you'd think. But maybe they still had some basic tools/machines and "smiths" capable of doing so.

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?Pic related: WFRP author James Wallis's response to a letter criticizing how railroaded The Enemy Within campaign was.

>>97253343actually I think it works better and expains how they were so quick to get TK troopers out the door, plus at the time project war-mantle was kept secret from the public and senatecorrect me if i'm wrong, but you never saw TK troopers in a "public" setting (e.g local garrison in S3 E4) until after the military recuitment bill is voted for in S2?the real issue is the vader comic burning seas arc, and the timeline placement of tales of the underworldso the only logical conclusion I can make of it, because it's a mess, is both designs were made before we got the finalized design/stormtrooper armour won out
>>97253355I forgot about the desix episode having TK troopersso the answer is "I don't know", maybe TK troopers were meant to be more elite than stormtroopers hence the commando training and placement at facilities like tantiss, but got mixed in with the stormtrooper corps once the military recruitment bill got passedunfortunately this is just me making shit up to try and explain a mess of lore, I hope they clarify it

>>97207466In my experience in an american meta, snipers and other long range guns(flammenspeers, panzerfausts) can still be really good, just more situational. The way my boards are set up, sniper nests usually have sightlines to at least one key point, but you have to choose which one you want to watch over, so sometimes its worth keeping in reserve to see where enemies are placing their offensive pushers. That said, my local meta does complain about morats, so you probably have a point

>>97253435>It absolutely shoulda been a tribal set and really leaned into the various art styles from planes over the last 30 years. That wasn't going to happen once WotC decided that they were going to represent the different draft archetypes as different teams. Which, yes, is potentially more accurate to the reality of professional racing, but that also forced them to come up with factions, which in turn kept them from using races from, say, Capenna because they'd then be taking a stance on which of the plane's factions to represent. At the same time, WotC is pretty consistent about having vague factions on every plane, typically aligned with either monocolors or color pairs, in order to tie together the flavor of what's being represented. They could have achieved that by leaning in more on the organizations actually hosting the race, with the racers themselves being more one-off, but that would also involve leaning away from the focus actually being on the racers. Moreover, having the racing teams as the factions allows for the printing of multiple vehicles and creatures per team, allowing you to highlight both the team's star racers and their different vehicles. It'd feel a little weird to have a one-off legendary racer with his car as a different card.Honestly, the Wacky Races theme probably would have worked better as something like Commander Legends, rather than a Standard set, since you could then lean on something like the Background mechanic to pair a legendary racer with a legendary vehicle without making too much of a mess of the rest of the set. Aetherdrift was also fucked over by having time and resources diverted away from its development in order to get more UB sets to print. That isn't a conspiracy theory--Maro straight-up told us as much in his podcast.

>>97250265You’re a fucking idiot. Manipulating physics doesn’t mean it’s not physics. That’s like arguing we’re raping physics for breaking the sound barrier. You retarded motherfuckers still think the supernatural or the unnatural aren’t just relative positions of ignorance/unfamiliarity. We already have science fiction stories where aliens mess with physics do we can’t advance further. It’s conceivable. Ask yourself this. Would God see himself as a god the same way his followers do? Someone who can rape physics casually isn’t really raping physics on their end. It’s just what they do. Don’t respond back to me.
>>97250265>Magick changes the laws of physics locally which can have disastrous effects on machines that require a very specific coefficient of friction, tensile strength, ideal gas law, mass, etc to functionThat just means it’s exotic, alien physics, incompatible with our own, like oil and water—but oil and water are still nonetheless facets of physics. Listen. Physics deals with what is real. Is magic real? I don’t care how wibbly wobbly woo it is. Water cancelling out fire doesn’t make water not physics. As >>97253579 pointed out (ever so rudely) the implications of magic are more alien and sinister than not; it’s as though something made an artificial science/system of understanding to stall the natural one (even in a land of fantastical proportions, baser and baser concepts of understanding like math and chemistry will still/always exist—the ancients even made a distinction between natural magic and magic-magic; the latter of which is either psychological or reinforced by god/demons/aliens—but is thus natural on the ends of the gods/demons/aliens—and magic loops around from casual/natural to uncasual/supernatural), or accentuate it, if they aren’t incompatible—and to some degree even if they are explicitly “incompatible” they WILL still be compatible to SOME degree, nonetheless, since even a wizard’s wand or staff is -technically speaking- a piece of technology. The stick is perhaps the simplest piece of technology. Never mind the wheel.
>>97253579>Ask yourself this. Would God see himself as a god the same way his followers do? Someone who can rape physics casually isn’t really raping physics on their end. It’s just what they do. This is why I dislike Christians. They quite literally think God would look at himself the way Christians look at him. This is my issue with these people. They’re projecting on to the very thing they worship. They impose upon him. They think they know what God wants, or what God would do. Do they REALLY think that God would be pleased if they (after everything we’ve learned about the earth) walked up to God (had he just showed up, let’s say) and told them they took everything in the Bible at face value? Do they REALLY think God would be impressed by this? Christians like to assume God is retarded for some reason.
>>97250265Magick is such a silly word. Magic IS a game of punking. Magick is just another way of saying “it’s capital-m Magic!”, lol. No different from saying “no it’s a miracle not magic!”, or “no it’s nature not magic!”, etc, as though the ancients didn’t see the two (nature and magic/religion) as these inseparable fields. The words change but the essences stay the same. The modern day wizard is just the mad scientist, doing arcane things.
