Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

I love the model of Winter Solstice Lucy, but the band-aid design of that piece of gear, and then the KDM team saying they have no plans to change Harvester really pisses me off. Basically saying "we think this design is fine, give us $60 to mitigate the 1% chance of killing your run".

I didn't even get into the expansions in my original post because half of that would have devolved into my frustration that they're planning on changing the Gorn in one of the future card packs to get noisy. It's a war-horn that requires you to blow into it, that shit is nowhere near the concept of noisy in comparison to a damn drum.

Oh and don't even get me started on the Verspertine Cello; really cool design for doing a "band" build if you want to kill 4 characters in one go.
>>
>>97367393
The move has always been resist with your worst survivors
>>
>>97371478
Yea well I just lost 3 of my best survivors to plague right after barely surviving butcher so I'm kind of in a bad spot right now
>>
>>97372013
best houserule for that is the plague effect being lingering, so if you have a chance, materials, and good RNG luck, you build ammonia and with some more RNG cure those niggers
>>
>>97371378
>But it's actually like 20-30% of the events that result in "you die" scenarios.
And this is where the problem is. Once you start making one change, now the gate is wide open to change everything. And before you know it you aren't playing Kingdom Death any more but something else completely different.

Your problem is that you want the game to be something other than what it is. If you want a tight, balanced game system there are much much better options than Kingdom Death. Kingdom Death is a story generator, that's its strength. It's not the game you want to play.

The wall spell still blocks shooting, it's like the one example of a spell which still does something useful that isn't damage.

So I've only had 1 game with the new tome though not as much has changed. (Noble deeds points are gone and now Ushoran's army aura has been swapped to hero specific with him allowing you to have better control over what buffs you get. Kinda like the bad moon)

I usually got Monster Mash because Terrorgheists are scuffed, Terrorgheist with ghoul king are fantastic and can maul just about anything while being a big self healing centerpiece. (Crit mortals with d3+3 damage on the big mouth attack) The army can also go the complete opposite direction and get the most hordey shit imaginable, crypt ghouls come in blocks of 20-40, you have no save and pretty mediocre hit but that's 40 wounds of psychos running at you wherein they basically just exist like clan rats that can frenzy for big damage. You can also bring back anything that isn't a single unit monster or hero at half strength from any side of the board once it's wiped.

You get access to the usual solid Death RoR so if there's any centerpieces of dudes you'd want from the other 3 armys you can generally slot them in and they'll be effective. The spell lore is solid, lots of buffs and Ushoran has his funny spell where you can just use an enemies attack on another enemy. Ushorann himself is a big threat, most people will avoid him outright because he's a blender that can cast 2 spells a turn and just does good work.

You get priests, lots of casting, heroes are gonna be a big focus since they buff your dudes quite a bit and give you more options. Prayers and casting are both really effective, and the endless spells are one of the better sets. (If not for the ponies)

Ghouls are great, they are indeed crazy monkey boys with insane leaders causing trouble which oddly does summarize the play style quite well.
>>
>>97372031
Sorry meant to say Big Ush's horses are one of the BEST endless spells for FEC. The wall is a decent slow down, and the chalice is better now than it was before.

Also I'll say, certain heroes are better than others but you're not required to have as many as you needed before for noble deeds points but they still provide most of your utility and buffing capabilities to make your dudes do much more damage or hit wayyy better.
>>
>>97372018
The problem is that you can just walk through it now, so blocking LoS is trickier and it's harder to defend with

This. And you add the hidden features if/when the players discover them. I do this all the time and use custom-painted miniatures (including the furniture, pillars, etc). Most recent was a layout for The Wreck, a pirate base (Savage Tide campaign)

If you don't have time or don't want to do this kind of thing, then don't do it, no harm no foul. In our case, it enhances our game and my players love it

>first pic could be straight up bare FDM for the most part
Ridiculous. That whole layout in OP is weathered rock faces or rounded cobbles which are all very matt surfaces. The only thing that could be shiny are the floors. The sheen and albedo on unpainted FDM would completely ruin the look.

Daily reminder the anti-GW raid discord is hard at work trying to make people hate 40k. They're now trying to convince people that the 40k or HH lore isn't good, thematic, or deep. They'll conveniently ignore the fact that 40k isn't popular for its gameplay, it's popular for its lore and setting. GW has literally dominated table top gaming and is a household name of nerd culture PURELY because of its lore and stories. But ok. Sure. Let's pretend it's bad because discord raiders said so. Uh huh.

Any examples of tabletop wargames with good character vs character combat?

Im adapting a setting where its very much pulp heroes being badass and doing a tabletop version of it. I want hero vs hero or hero vs squad to matter. Just looking for inspo. Thank you everyone.

I think having something as "evanescent" (or whatever you want to call it) as Luck be turned into basically armor is a bit of a waste thematically. Maybe some sort of karma system where when you use luck points, any cricitcal fail hits even harder ?
Something with a "push your luck" aspect, the more you push back negative effect using luck, the harder it bites you in the ass later at the worst possible time.
I like the idea of integrating poker hands or getting drunk to regain Luck, that's fun !
Also, maybe think of doing something with the fact that there are 6 bullets in a revolver and 6 sides on a D6 ? A russian roulette mechanic ?

>>97370854
I have created a game that is only 1v1 combat using handmade zines as your battle moves, where each opponent action is revealed simultaneously. Maybe it could be adapted in a tabletop format with fig and such.

>>

I mean the oposite, there are not that many cheese tactics. The already mentioned ones are basically the only worth mentioning.
Nids are just ok at a casual level because horma/termagants are expensive unless equiped with spinefists, genestealers are even more expensive and fragile, carnifex sucks at melee, in fact most tiranids actually suck at melee. Zoantropes are easy to target if you don't learn how to shield them with other troops, warriors are bad, reaveners are not easy to use etc
Nids are very much fine.

Yeh I meant flavor and balance. *In general* the 5th ed codices have some of the most flavorful and best and most unique and creative content in them over any other edition of warhammer. But they didnt always (read most of them lol) do a good job balancing it. The notable exception is that dark eldar book, which is just chock full of awesome units, rules, wargear, and options, while also being very well internally balanced. There is just so much cool stuff in it. On the contrary one of the most boring codices is the 4th edition eldar book (but its still better than the 3rd ed one cause fuck 3 shot starcannons lol). Ironically the coolest eldar book every published is the (and I hate to say it) but its the 7th ed one, simply because they finally took the time to come up with cool and thematic rules for all the aspect warriors.

>Do you prefer your elves as fallen empire from the past or as dominant and hegemonic entity in your world?
I can understand the appeal of the fallen elven empire, as this perfectly embodies the melancholy of past glory and romanticism of ruins that you often find in high fantasy. It gives a great adventuring hook, to explore these ruins and find elfen artifacts and grand magic of the past.
However, I also really tire of it, especially as some pro-elf supremacist that wants to see them win and do cool stuff. Not just in the past. Feel like this trope is sometimes just an excuse for the writer to lash out at elves or use them as a punching bag for whatever else race. Or they need to write elves like stupid assholes that shot themselves into the foot because that's what elves do, right.

One setting, there was this big apocalypse some thousand years ago, and I made my elves the first to establish stable kingdoms. Other powers managed to catch up, but this way, they are still an "old civilization" in a way.
However, one anon once said something like "fallen kingdoms and empires is such a human thing", and it resonated with me. Really like the idea that elves are neither falling or rising, since that's something very ordinary and human. But instead, they may just be something outside of these concepts. Or maybe they are just visiting, and then leaving again. I really just like the idea of elves being just visitors.

So I bought this as I really like Conan 2d20 System and I was surprised that system appears to be very rules lite compared to Conan 2d20 or WHFR 4E and a lot of rules and stuff appears to be on GM to flesh out. Usually i pay for RPG books because i don't want to figure out how much damage or to hit modifier some fancy sword has but in Dune core rulebook, its precisely that, book demands that i figure it out instead of giving me stat blocks.
may be its just I'm retarded, or this system is lazy slop cashing in on movie craze?

Oh nice. These are the guys who did Star Trek Adventures, which I think is fuckin' rad. It's very much roleplay focused w/ action decided through tests that further a narrative, rather than crunchy stats. Star Trek is, I mean. I liked the way it set up scenes as decision points as the adventure progresses.

Haven't read their Dune, though. Star Trek was easy because it's intentionally reproducing the TV Episode format. So sessions/adventures had a flow that they were supposed to follow.

The fact that it's Modiphius gives me enough confidence that I'd like to read it. I love the Herbert-Dune. Can't say what it's like. If they've gone w/ the no-crunch sorta style Star Trek Adventures does, then I think that the secret sauce is going to be "how are adventures set up?" I'd start by reading that section, OP. If it's crystal clear how an adventure can/is-supposed-to flow and puts that on solid ground for the GM, then I'd assume it'll work very well like STA does. If it's more "I dunno like D&D but in Dune and stuff" without any crunch? I'd be nervous about it.

Ahsoka was ALWAYS shit tard
The only thing this shitshow revealed to the masses was how reliant she was on Anakin, Obi-Wan and other bastardized yet still comparatively good characters to be worth a damn

> Cocky Skip Tracer
Skip tracers are your debt collectors and repo men, so I’m really having a hard time parsing out that kind of work with a “cocky” attitude. Honestly of all the bounty hunter types, the skip tracer seem like they’d be the most ho-hum and grounded; if not outright bored (I mean there’s only so many times you can be called every horrible thing under the sun before it loses all bite)
