I don't think it can be done. The bare necessities for saving and companioning the character I'd want already come to a total of 1350 CP without offering any guarantees or power and drawbacks in that jump are actually harsh.

Should every aspiring GM read Appendix N?
2 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
I would encourage anyone to read fantasy that isn't Tolkien or Sandersonslop
>>
>>96461612
Sure. Reading is always good.
>>
>>96461612
No, most of the books on that list are dogshit.
>>
Every aspiring GM should read, and those are reasonable fantasy suggestions.
>>
>>96461612
As someone who can read I ask, why are you asking about appendix N but posting that list which isn't appendix N?

The answer to your question is no. Some of those are good but as noted below, that list was just some stories Gygax liked. Inspiration for campaigns can come from anywhere. Some of those were good stories but there have been a lot more good stories written in the last 50 years.

>>96461655
>If the GM wants to understand what AD&D 1e is trying to emulate
Neither that list nor appendix N are a list of things AD&D is trying to emulate. Gygax may credit Howard's Conan work as influential upon the game but AD&D doesn't try to emulate sword-and-sandal. Weinbaum and Williamson are science fiction authors nothing like the AD&D fantasy game.
The list,as Gygax says in appendix N, were inspirations for him. They may provide inspiration for others to make for interesting campaigns, but they are not a list of things D&D was intended to emulate.
>From such sources, as well as just about any other imaginative writing or screenplay you will be able to pluck kernels from which grow the fruits of exciting campaigns.

File deleted.
What are you working on right now?
Any issues? Lacking inspiration? Smashing your head against a creative wall? Or just having a hard time getting all these pages done?

my current goal is to finish >>96457055
but once that's done, I'll be able to begin with that silly little project

I have some ideas already
like, I want it to be a deck-building game
players will begin with a small number of resources, which they will spend to buy new workers to add to their factory (deck)
each kind of worker will have different abilities, so players are encouraged to acquire different workers for their decks
also, the victory points should be cork stoppers, which I think is a cute idea

These elements have been a staple for thousands of years across every civilization in history.
From the americas to Europe to Asia.

Empathy, cooperation and spiritual connection to nature. It gave the power to communicate with animals but not control. I recall one episode they're all in the ocean and Mati (kid with Heart) tries to talk a shark into helping. The shark understands the situation but is still hungry so he's gonna eat them anyway.

Hologram principle. Shatter a hologram and, if the pieces are large enough, each would contain the whole image.
Since you can't quite shatter reality itself, you single out a portion of the element from the whole, purging the other elements from it.
>individual elements are all just facets of the all-encompassing "element"
I'd argue said element should not be available to PCs, at least not without going to great length to acquire the means or knowledge of how to manipulate it.

Id use Stars without Number with them. has the d20 look and feel. You can convert the skills to d20 rolles if they dont want d6 rolls.
Alternatively you could use Across a Thousand Dead Worlds for a slightly different experience with a very d20 feel to it.

Then use it to do Drinax! Or whatever.

Feudalism started dying after the black death wiped out nearly half of all serfs. The lords started poaching each other's peasants with promises of lower taxes and better treatment. The monarch could no longer rely on his vassals to provide him with large armies, so he had to rely on mercenary bands, which cost money, which required proto-capitalism. Mercantilism was a way to survive the decline, not really a cause.

>because of your faith
>only for the pure hearted
that's protestant shit (vanity), though it's better than jewish shit where you just have to be born into it. You're putting too much focus on the person being special, whereas with catholicism the point is nobody is special - everyone's shit and a sinner.
In reaching for the cross in their time of need that is a tacit submission to God and a plea to his mercy, regardless of whoever that person was before. Even the person returning to sin after the fact isn't a barrier to that (frankly it's expected).

>>96455515
Where I see shintoism sorta overlap with vampires (aside from touhou of course, but let's ignore that) is the general central tenent of the separation of the divine or pure, mundane, and profane into their own specific spaces. And that lines up with a lot of the traditional "anti-vampire tech" out there, if not all of them. Stuff like being unable to cross running water, having to be invited into homes, even garlic as a ward - it's very easy to find parallels with that and Shinto traditions such as Shimenawa or Ofuda (or even like setsuban if you want to stretch it). So in that hypothetical, I think that if you are running with the premise that shintoism affects vampires at all, warding and sealing are definitely within their wheelhouse.
Killing Vampires however? Less so. That's more within the realm of what gods would potentially do themselves than anything a priest or priestess would be doing.

It's like being caught in a plastic fucking pyramid scheme.
I bought a model that forces me to buy more models to use it. Not even buy the models I need, I need to go out and buy TEN models I don't need for the one model I do. I need to go out and buy bags of crackerjacks, throw out the crackerjacks, and keep the prize inside.

The extra disgusting part is that they've announced it this early not for consumer benefit, but to create a panic boom in their sales as people rush to buy up old stock.

A determined necromancer wants to travel from Sylvania to Khemri to find the secrets of immortality.
He travels south, breaking his way through a dwaven mountain pass around
Karak Hirn. The dwarfs rally an army to chase him down.
From Khemri a Tomb King pushes north to reclaim ancient territories in the Badlands, clashing with the necromance's hordes in the process.
And obviously the dwarfs are not too particular when it comes to killing undead, attacking both armies on sight.

The Necromancer faces immortality or destruction as he tries to harness the death magic of the ancient obelisks...

>I'll bite, anon. What's your experience with it? First glance at the main system puts in mind of the old WEG Star Wars game.

It's simpler than the old WEG D6. In short, you just take the two highest values as your results.
It's over all clean and smooth to run, Combat feels natural. It's cheap enough so just get it and try it.
There's a third book, the Black Star Companion that rounds out the system. With all three books it really does feel like a combined arms type game without getting bogged down with an overly complex system.
