Love Peter Jackson portrayal, although I think he goes a little to heavy on the armor at times. Dragon's Dogma had a nice interpretation of them, clearly visually inspired by LotR films.

WoD's portrayal of the old Orcs was fun, but also demonstrates one of the problems with changing Orcs from a classic monster race to one that's capable of making moral choices. Cause if you do that an then try to keep all the fun barbarian raider orc tropes, you end up with something far far more problematic than just sticking to the classic always evil monsters. So yeah, kind of fun, but Orcs have been a mess since, I dunno, TBC.

>The game is much more fun if you play a more "from your gut" game and don't plan your turns out in the minutest detalils because mistakes make the game more interesting. At the same time, though, the game punishes mistakes somewhat harshly.
That's such a group dependent thing. I noticed it Five tribe. Got a group where we play by feel, quick and dirty. Not instant snap decisions but noone thinks about his turn for more than 20 seconds. The game is really fun that way.
Then I played it with a different, more competitive crowd and the game was agonizingly slow and exhausting, and overall soured me on the design. Sure, you can say it's the players fault and the game wants to be played in a certain way, but I can't tell from just looking at it. Eg. Agricola would be shit if everbody just wings it.

Really, your milage may vary and tbis variance in experience is inherent to most mid-heavy games, but really, just give me a comment box in the rules or something so I know how to set the tone and get the best experience.

this keeps me from playing heavier games, AP + player count starts multiplying downtime like crazy

>What game did you expect to hate, but ended up really liking it?
TfM - played it late, thought it would be like Ark nova. The map part is pretty boring but I love the massive amount of cards and just building the engine up. It's sort of a calming game for me, where I just build my engine in peace
For sale - old, boring filler game. Besides it's betting which I'm not a fan of. Turns out it's great, all time goat. Love it.
Dominant species - people said it's long and mean. Hard to get things done and others ruin your plans etc.. One of my favorites. It's not that mean imo, st least it doesn't feel that way to me, maybe because of the theme. The domination calculation is simple math, no problems. It's longer since it's also best with more players but it doesn't feel long.

>What game did you expect to love, but endet up hating it?
Ark nova - animals, lot's of cards, heavy, everyone in the group loved it. It's not that interesting, slow cycling through the cards. Even more solo than TfM but with no engine building fun.
Spirit island - everyone loved it, heavy coop with asymetry. Maybe because it's coop but it's very boring. Like pandemic, enemy spreads and you play a couple of cards to contain them. The cards are also not that exciting.

Rules for PC creation haven't applied to NPCs since 3rd edition, and even then a lot of the writers at the time treated elves and drow and dwarfs and such as generally superior to humans even if the rules didn't always reflect this

I think the best way to look at it is that a mid-level player character could represent an above average elf, tiefling, or genasi, or a well above average dwarf, or truly exceptional human or halfling

Obviously there would be some nuance, like a mid-level gnome wizard would be considered uncommon, but a mid-level gnome fighter would very rare

What age is it appropriate to let children open booster packs? In America, gambling is restricted to people 21 and over. Buying booster packs of Pokemon, Yugioh, etc however, all unrestricted.

Ink+paper+packaging+shipping does add up to 3~5 cents per card, goes up to 10~15c for standard foils and maybe, in the worst upper estimate, $0.25 for the fancy foils if you mass produce them.
Paying double digit dollarydoos or more PER CARD is the swcond stupidest thing, right behind the car-centric zoning laws.

People with "let's not have gambling in our games" mindset are the opposite of "investors" though. god I miss FFGs Netrunner, LCGs are the only viable solution to card games.

When did Magic players get so delusional? The performative outrage about UB has got to be some of the most faggy outrage ive seen in this game. If you bought/played with any secret lair cards or LotR cards then you have no room to complain about the current trajectory, this is your fault.
If you are anti UB because they dont "fit" Mtgs setting, but purchased/played Neon Dynasty, Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, or Edge then you have no media literacy because they are all basicly UB sets without an IP attached.
Stop posting like UB is the death of magic, I remember when we thought Mythic rarity was going to be the end and now look at this bullshit. Its going to keep going on until people are done playing the game and move to something else, and theres not a single TCG right now that could take its place.
>inbf I proxy so I win
You are a faggot in denial, if you play the game in anyway, you are coupable in this.

>I brought up Epicureanism before because I think its key concepts are strangely poignant in today's society where life is really a stress test of everything and people basically live life on high anxiety. Lucretius' On the Nature of Things and the Epicurus compilation called the Art of Happiness are typical starting points.
Epicureanism is FLAWED because it promotes STAGNATION. What if I find peace THROUGH pain and fear? What if I CONSTRUE moderation and tranquility as FAILURES of self-EXPRESSION? Because it sure FUCKING seems to be that EPICUREANISM sounds a whole LOT like it's a PRO-GOHAN stance.

I'll have to give it some thought honestly. I don't think he'd want that in-character, but OOC the precedent (in oWoD at least) could make for a very dark end to the character.

I could see the Abbey rituallistically carving this Werewolf apart piece by piece while she's alive, taking back her power to avenge their slain members. I know that on death, Uratha turn back into human form and all their werewolf-remains vanish. But I wonder if she was still alive and kept prisoner, could her claws and fangs be used? Her pelt still worn as cladding etc? Pic related would make for a very novel weapon for the Abbey to harvest (if they can just keep the damn werewolf contained).

I can picture this ritualised event where the Abbey treat Duncan as a proxy for his father, splashing him with werewolf blood and layering the pelt on him as an honorific. I'll have to give it some thought, I don't want this idea to just come out of nowhere. If I do decide to go with the accidental Werewolf (Skindancers need 5 pelts or something but whatever), it'd need foreshadowing and buildup, not just a random bad-end.

Why is there so much whinging about 'No Games' on this board? I understand that those who come here solely with the intention of discussing tropes and the like can be frustrating to deal with, but there seem to be some folks here who make it their mission to drop bursts of negativity in threads they should've known would enrage them. And even in these threads that hold more general discussion, I don't see how nearly all of them are not at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.
