I've been on a space kick recently and want to run a sci-fi space campaign as the GM. What are the best systems for a flexible gaming experience without the autistic complexity of something like Shadowrun? I'm looking for a system that can run "magic" (Psionics, occultists, dark gods, etc) and high-tech weaponry and ships and stuff as well as madness mechanics mutations, cybernetics, horror elements, etc. Visiting weird planets, dealing with intergalactic politics, smuggling goods, assassinations, dealing with alien cultures, learning dangerous magic and technology, etc. I also want the players help make the setting so I'd prefer a flexible system that can handle a multitude of scenarios with cool aliens and stuff.

I've heard of Traveler, Starfinder, etc, I just wanna know what system(s) I should focus on learning about first. I'd rather not run it in a Star Wars DnD conversion or Feelings and Lasers. This crowd usually plays DnD or very simple games but are open to other games too. Again I've tried Shadowrun and I'd rather a system that isn't over-complicated and just has the hacking take up 90% of the screentime.

At this point it is a genuine trope.
I think it's because it is fundamentally the most """European""" class/arcehtype (being a holy knight) so by having them be that class they try to hammer home that all races are able to do whatever they want, no matter how much it clashes with the archetype of an actual European holy knight.
>>
>>97183946
The way druids were originally written it seemed even easier to get your powers stripped for deviations from 'correct' behavior. Druid code was more weird and arbitrary imo, and after 'falling' you don't even get to be a fighter, you're just a dude
Up to 3rd edition at least I know you could still punk a Druid for an alignment change, just seems like DM's forget that other characters ~have alignments besides paladins. Dunno anything about editions after 3.5 because I'm not retarded nor a gay

Fenrisians are "space vikings" from a literal "fire and ice" planet, where Fenris only has either arctic regions or extreme always active volcanic regions, with pretty much no interplay between them.
The standard nordic skin phenotype is type 2, which unlike the celtic one (type 1), which absolutely never tans and only ever burns, *can* indeed tan and if it does, then it tans very well into a sort of rich honey brown.
Therefore there absolutely can be "black" Space Wolves, but their skeletal and skull/face type should absolutely be standard north European caucasian, not negroid, in that case.
Couple that with the fact that ALL space marines have a super-melanin gland implant, that can make their skin tone change practically almost instantly, when exposed to sufficient UV, it's not absurd for a space marine's skin to wildly vary depending on where he is, compared to his natural skin tone.

I've got pulpshit fatigue. Fantasy comic bookiness and pulp are beyond tiresome to me. Ugly as shit art, retarded as shit plots, dumbass pulp tropes like one dude solos an army of 50000 and makes a Marvel quip. Always some dumbfuck scifi or lovecraftian content thrown in too. I want grit, realism, and down to earth plots. I want characters who act like real people, not capeshit actors. I want a plot with substance, not mindless style.

I'm sick of it all, everything from Howard to Warhammer to Stench Crusade. Any other fatguys feel the same?

Nice chart, anon. Having Yu there to bounce off Linghao was a good idea, it added some flavor to what otherwise would be mostly paperwork.

As far as bridging the gap between twins goes, he could probably point Ming towards the same locations as Chizi, although the more dangerous the better to force them to together.
>>97210699
I'm not sure the martial path world has a christmas but it probably has a spring festival/new year's equivalent, in which case Chizi is participating in all the festivities, paying tributes to the ancestors, exchanging gifts, lighting fireworks, etc. They would even try to join in the activities probably restricted to servants, such as the home cleaning to sweep away bad luck. I don't have any plans to write anything holiday-related though.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

AD&D kind of gives no real information besides use the random encounters to see if they generate applicable settlers.
But a lot of material assumes peasents are automatically drawn to a domain. Then alternates between describing them as taxpaying adults and setting out rules to tax only a portion who are adults.

Generally speaking, AD&D and OD&D implicitly assumed you would use some other system to handle domain management, because they were both written assuming that everybody who played the games were wargamers, see for example the mass combat rules that are mentioned but never explained. In this case, almost certainly the Tony Bath book, which was highly abstract anyway. And then the DM would make some rulings on the fly for it.

If you want something structured and playtested, you should probably check out ACKS, which uses "families" as the unit for managing domains, with one family equalling one person. It's probably a bit too heavy and spreadsheety for my taste, but it's definitely solid.

Requesting an white Euro-centric imperial colonizer and his colonized ethnic non-white wife. Inb4 the white malexnon-white female fetish jokes. This is for a fantasy story I'm helping write for a buddy of mine.

The image can just be both the white Imperial and his ethnic waifu sitting, but the woman is sitting on his lap. And the Imperial has his arms wrapped around her embracingly, maybe his chin resting on her shoulder as he's embracing holding her.

You're welcome to make the white Imperial either an older man in his 30s or a young lad who's 18 or still in his early 20s. But preferably, the ethnic non-white woman is the youngest younger one 18 yrs old.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

8E and 10E index were comfy, but no single ruleset has ever had a perfect combination of things to like.

10E feels like it has the highest amount of "useful" datasheets that 40k has ever had, and the reactive stratagems are very engaging. On the other hand, listbuilding has skewed to becoming very lore unfriendly, and the quarterly points/rules updates have been infuriating to adjust to.
>>
>>97186108
No. It was the nail in the coffin of 40K as a good game system.
>>
>>97205549
>no single ruleset has ever had a perfect combination of things to like
4th with the updated Assault rules from White Dwarf was as perfect as 40K ever got. Sorry to all the booger eaters who came late (2nd edition onwards) but you simply lack the scope and depth of knowledge to have an opinion worth considering.
>>
>>97186108
It is at least a different Edition. 5th, 6th and 7th Edition didn't need to exist, they basically evolved 4th Edition but shittily.
>>
>>97186108
I don't like anything after 5th. Though I prefer 8th edition over 9th and 10th edition. It introduced the start of plenty of retarded trends, but it offered a "clean slate" after the disaster that was 7th edition and introduced more ways to play the game. And it's just all downhill from there.

Tolkien is to blame for the state of 5e and generic fantasy that you see in TTRPGs. We wouldn't have horrible big fat fantasy books, nor power fantasy / wish fulfilment, which you find in scaling levels through so-called "XP". Fantasy used to be an experimental, creative, and wild genre filled with mad imagination; now, it is all wooden and samey.

Your puzzle just kinda sucks ass, man. Not one part of this is even slightly engaging because you can see the solution right away, and you can't come up with your own solutions which is why people play rpgs.
