Actually the entire Genestealer Cults as the models have the Great Devourer keyword. Aliens pulling The Thing and then forming Lovecraftian cults, only to get devoured themselves by the coming of Star Children has an allure.

Practice makes perfect. You'll get faster as you commit your style to memory and eventually you'll understand how to control your brush and apply paint much quicker than you do now. You'll probably also learn what steps you should add or skip to your scheme as you get better.
Additionally, 3 hours for 1 non-character model is a fine pace, especially if you're new to the game.

As for CC about the model, I stand by what I said that you should add a few scratches in different directions in the future, and apply a wash. The model looks great but I think you can go a bit further with it.

I want to know two things:

2. What are the tyranid's true origins? Are they old one weapons or are they the silent king's pets?

My dudes are a khorne/nightlord warband that fight against a planets human population until it either goes into extinction or there are worthy humans/abhumans to recruit. Usually Genestealer cults pop up during these hunts and the Khorne aligned marines can satiate their desires on gathering those skulls.

>Also post /yourdudes/ favorite drink.
They drink from the first natural river if the planet has a healthy ecosystem, and continue to drink from it until their goals with the planet are finished. If the planet doesn't have a natural water source than they either abandon the planet altogether or work fast.

A. It is the c'tan eremit that went on a feeding frenzy went insane and vanished into outer space.

C, They are a manifestation of an unknown chaos god representing the pure instinct of hunger and growing.
D. Something completly different.

>What are /yourdudes/ good at and why?
The DeffWaaaaghh!!! are "exceptional" at most things they decide to do thanks to the overwhelming luck of Warboss Lootkruncha. In reality, their skills are below average to that of most Orks, but their incredible luck leads them to performing great feats, like stumbling upon a perfectly intact humie tellyporta or the wind carrying their shoota bullets into weak points in an enemy's armor.
>Also post /yourdudes/ favorite drink.
Fungus beer, of course. Warboss Lootkruncha specifically likes his fungus beers fermented for 80 days (roughly, because nobody bothers to count that high) in special mixin' squigs. These squigs are notable due to their tendency to keep live grots in their mouths after eating them, which drown and dissolve in the fungus beer that the squigs are filled with to ferment. This adds the flavor that Lootkruncha loves most. He's described the brew as "tastin' like I'z chewin' onna peece uv' scrap" due to the iron content in the grot's blood.

Norn Queens must be aquatic if they are not THE ships themselves, easier to support weight in the outer space where gravity does not matter but when fleet builds the speed it allows for an environment that wont crush you.
Also just better aesthetically because I imagine young Norn Queens thrown out into aquatic planets to hunt for prey and each other. Ones to survive are left to tend for selves.

If you want to bring up conversions, rather than actual GW kits, then there's no reason to claim people are restricted by the GW design philosophy. You can make a tyranid fleet that's just The Beast from Homeworld that infects other races and machines, rather than growing distinct creatures.

SC2 zerg looked awful and like they were designed by someone who things bugs are "icky".
>Wouldn't want all the different species they've consumed across 13 galaxies to affect more than the size of their parts.
Obscene notion, "you are what you eat" isn't applicable to predation.
Tyranids take whatever good genes you have and proliferate, nubbing genes off something doesn't mean that will necessarily affect your looks. Just look at surface level stuff of how CRISPR works.
And that brings me to the good point that >>93220031 provides. Zerg are enslavers and they directly just augument existing species, which is not how tyranids work, tyranids just fleshwarp themselves like in All Tomorrows and that's it.
>then there's no reason to claim people are restricted by the GW design philosophy
They should be, because there is taste in adhering to and working within design limitations, as the saying goes "limitations breed creativity" or whatever it goes.
>You can make a tyranid fleet that's just The Beast from Homeworld that infects other races and machines, rather than growing distinct creatures.

the myth is that blizzard was making a warhammer game and lost the license so they turned it into warcraft
what actually happened as per their own documentary is that when warcraft 1 was in its earliest stages as a passion project of like 2(3?) of their team, the sprites were literally PNGs of one of those guys' warhammer miniatures

>Obscene notion, "you are what you eat" isn't applicable to predation.
You do know Tyranids literally absorb genes and traits from speciesy they encounter, right? It's why they origianlly were so diverse in their design, until someone with autism decided they all must be identical. The same way someone decided all of Admech needs to be a bunch of Da Vinci steampunks and all of Imperial Army needs to be 19th century scuba divers.
>Tyranids take whatever good genes you have and proliferate, nubbing genes off something doesn't mean that will necessarily affect your looks.
How about taking genes that enable different body plans, unless you're gonna claim 6 limbs, a head, tail, and upper and lower torso is the best possible body plan across 13 galaxies.
>Zerg are enslavers and they directly just augument existing species, which is not how tyranids work,
Dude, what? Zerg do steal DNA from strong opponents, but they also drive on forcing evolution within themselves to make future generations stronger. And if you want to talk about infecting other species, should be bring up gene-stealers?
>tyranids just fleshwarp themselves like in All Tomorrows and that's it.
Apart from how all the humans in All Tomorrows were so different from each other.
>They should be, because there is taste in adhering to and working within design limitations, as the saying goes "limitations breed creativity" or whatever it goes.
You would know all about being "limited".

>It's why they origianlly were so diverse in their design
WROOONG, open the 2E book. The only true tyranids are Tyranid Warriors (and later Tyrants). Everything else is classified as "bio-construct" made from other mutated & enslaved races. They weren't true tyranids. Yes, even genestealers. That might have also included the Scrillex, don't remember. But most units were explicitly NOT actual tyranids, just their slave bio-constructs.
>best possible body plan
It has never been about "best possible body plant" duh, since that would be shit like Grey Goo or whatever.
SC2 zergs are random assortment of pustules, talons and tentacles with no visual impetus aside from "creepy greeblies". Not even gonna bring up how much does them having horribly written dialogue or having a human as a face of the faction brings the aesthetics down.
>Neither do any of the conversions that have been put up as examples of how awesome Tyranids are.
If you think that "proxying necromorphs as nids" and "whatever the fuck guys like 4ydra or Modernsynthesist do" are equivalent then I don't believe there is anything to be discussed.

In contrast, necrons are one of my favorite enemies to fight. Both in my eyes, because they're a fun army to fight against and the players are usually the chillest bros, and in the Ork eyes, because those tinboyz just keep getting back up for another good fight.
>>
>>93220516
Based, Necron v Ork is one of my favorite matchups as a necron player. In most match ups I aggressively fight for the mid board in a very attrition heavy march forward. Against orks I need to desperately set up fire bases to stem the tide and take out the key targets before they hit my lines, destroying my army.

The necron players at my store have learned the hard way that they NEED to destroy my boyz before anything else or else they will never stand a chance to get the midfield. In most cases they watch squads of Boyz even taken to half strength absolutely delete a full unit of warriors or immortals and then decide that no, my big models aren't their biggest threat right now. It's the 60+ Boyz directly in front of them.
I'd say Orks are one of the few armies that can win against crons in a battle of attrition purely because of their numbers. More Orks will die, but there tend to be far more Orks in total.

It's a small challenge, and that carries a little payoff, like a puzzle, or a small discovery
working within boundaries easily establishes the designs as unified and coherent
it helps in visually separating the tyranids as something that evolves with a sense of order, opposed to the more rampant mutations of chaos
keeps the model line modular and with interchangeable bits and bobs

whether the nids can/cannot, should/shouldn't break their underlying common elements, with a rationalisation made with the limited or approximative information we have about how they truly work, is pure autism, it's arbitrary, it doesn't make "more sense"

I think SoB are fine for both the tomboy enjoyers and the thicc chasers:
Elves, though a lewd race otherwise, cannot get a tomboy's tan or muscles (their skin remains pristine and they are already strong despite being all sinewy). They can be amazonian and athletic, which can indeed overlap with tomboy somewhat. But just somewhat.
Neither can they get big breasts or thighs because eldar do not accumulate body fat.

Terminator armour is based on STL designs for suits that were meant for working inside active fusion reactors. It might very well have a purpose that has been lost for tens of thousands of years.

Not just fusion reactors.
The original version was just a "in-general-horrifically-inhospitable-and-hazardeus-to-human-life" environment work suit.
It's the reason why terminator armor is so good at radiation as well.

As a Asuryani player and tomboy enjoyer myself: good.

You think I want degenerate coomers sharing my faction? insisting that GW make the few releases we get fetish bait? SoB's can have em. In fact most of my Aeldari models have helmets for this very reason.

Arbites need to steal their Repressors back from the SoB. Hard to run an agents army without transports. Inquisitors being able to hitch a ride with attached squads is good and all, but doesn't solve the issue for all the current infantry in the current Agents list.

In fact an overhaul of transports would be great for other factions as well. I remember when Brood Brothers has their own Chimera that could ferry Genestealers around.

Also, Inquisitors want their terminator armour back. Put psykers and fanatics on separate datasheets. idgaf about balance 'concerns.'

How did GW not only manage to make the best sci-fi orcs with Orks, but the best sci-fi elves with Eldar and Dark Eldar?
>>

Humans were abandoned by their creators and left to wvolve over the next 20 million years. Eldar came straight from the old one test tubes into the battlefield.
>>
>>93221724

>>
>>93221642
Cataphractii is the original terminator pattern mechanicum created during the Great Crusade.
All other subsequent patterns after it are based on the Cataphractii and aren't completely new ones.

Also specifically Indomitus, Tartaros and Saturnine, are all contemporary patterns of one another and they share similarities in over all design.

And before anyone says it, Saturnine armor has never been actually shown off but we know it exists. What the fanbase calls "Saturnine pattern terminators" is actually an unnamed terminator pattern that was created by Vulkan, this is specifically pointed out and told in the short story Deeds Endure from the Shattered Legions book. The actual Saturnine armor we have never seen and probably wont ever see.

Nope.
A C'tan who fought during the War in Heaven specifically says humans are Old One's creation.

Humans existed already all the way back in the War in Heaven.
Which at best only ENDED 66 million years ago, it has never been stated as how long did the War even go on for and when it even started.
Humans in 40k are a much older race than it is IRL (Humans that can be recognized as Homo Sapiens are at best 300 000 years old according to some fossils we have discovered)

>bug biology discussion in the last couple threads got my noggin joggin to try and sort out a comprehensive genus tree

Forge World bugs are proving the biggest obstacle, and a general sense of dissatisfaction with how broad the sub-Carnifex tree spread is. I've got some ideas for the latter, but aside from being fairly settled on Hierodule and Harridan being in a direct line, I don't actually know what genus they would spring from. The same goes for the Dimachaeron.

Currently, on the "animal" side (there is a separate major branch devoted to Tyranid fauna, starting with microorganisms and upwards to the drop spores and spore chimneys. Undecided if fleet organisms would be in this branch, or another one for macro-animals) I have it divided from:

Root Genus > Ripper > Gaunt/Warrior/Carnifex/Tyrant/Genestealer/Biovore

90% of the Monster zoo resides inside the Carnifex tree, just the Tyrant, Emissary, Norn Queen, and Hierophant exist outside it. The FW exceptions I listed just don't feel like they fit inside even that wide variance. I also feel not entirely convinced by Toxicrene and Maleceptor living in that space, and they almost feel like they might fit in better with the Hierodule but they don't seem like they warrant their own branch under the Ripper genus either. Any other wannabe Xenologists have input?

Only if you speak French, I don't know why its taking so long for an English version to come out.

the population is so large that ambitious people have adopted alternate means of getting noticed by superiors in order to further their advancement
>flip through a dossier with no less than 10,000 guys named Joe or John
>get to "Slaughtermagne Skullfucker"
>"that's a badass name for a lieutenant, it even alliterates, I like the cut of this lad's gib." "Promote him to Colonel immediately."

In 9th, an absolutely based all-rounder unit with a great scult and kit for awesome bashes. you want 5 kombi-skorchas/rokkits? you can build 5 combi-skorchas/rokkits. You want to run 5 2-hand choppa nobz for dirt cheap? go for it little man. How about 1 hand with a power klaw, and 1 hand with a choppa on all 5 for an extra choppa attack, for your trouble? shoot, sounds fun. i'm in. Ever heard of a killsaw or power-stabba? here you go try em out.
In 10th the unit pales in comparison in what it once was. free wargear hurt these guys the most out of everything in the ork range. The unit is priced so high because of their power klaws meaning while you CAN run kombi-weapons (which are dumpstered, btw) or big choppas, you're paying the power klaw cost for something objectively worse and not worth running. Also, lol lmao if you wanted to run power stabbas, choppas, or killsaws. get fucked if you liked nobz with those weapons.

I will still run nobz though. I love those fuckers.

Oh no.
Don't get the guard and tyranidfags started on the whole barbed wire thing. It's buried and forgotten let it stay that way.

Precisely why I loved them, they go through walls, and depending on your leader they can increase their fuck you bubble or fallback

They are not just decent action monkeys but infantry bullies

Is it worth it to run a 10 man squad of Nobz?
I feel like that is kind of expensive for how squishy they can be.

10 man squad of nobz, especially with a warboss, is a delete button for any unit you throw them into, granted they are mostly at full-strength. once the opponent sees their potential and rightfully presses fire into them, they die rather quickly. I do it in almost every game i've ever played and it's funny as all hell rolling the warboss, having the opponent THINK that was the whole squad, and then going, "Alright here's... (math) 38 power klaw attacks on 3s" and watching their hopes sink.
worth it? absolutely. funny as fuck. competitive? probably only in bully boyz.

only about 10% of shrooms are psychoactive and I'd say about 1 in 10 orks is an oddboy so that checks out

No but it means if you eat orks you might get high. That's why some inquistors let ork level grow so they can harvest them for the drug trade to blackmail nobels and interrogate captives.
