>Thread question:
How is your local AoS scene?
>>
>>93701480
>TQ:
Pretty good. My LGS has a bad habit of not getting the word out soon enough about tournaments, but other than that there's a very solid playerbase. A lot of us agree that it's more fun than 40k right now, and we've got at least 2 newbies painting armies.
>>
>>93701480
>TQ
The local scene was near-dead and on life support before 4.0 came out. Everyone just played 40k instead.
Now it's been revitalized and people are getting hype again (including me). Many games are being held weekly.
>>
>tq
Lively, but with some quirks.
The most competitive players just play amongst themselves in lgs.
Others usually play at home on weekends.
These two group mix only on tournaments and league matches.

Very good. AoS has always had a decent presence in my city at the local gaming club (although its mostly 40k) but this year there was a branch out from a few members creating a pure AoS club at the side with more..."socially competent" players. Less nerds and university students, and more working fathers who wanna play some chill games. Although not classic beerhammer, its a shark tank kind of club where there are several members who are involved in our countrys AoS Worlds team.

I go to both, the new one for more chill matched play games, and the old one for selective games with a narrative flair.

Pic is from a tournament held by the new club, they always try to buy terrain together and create matiching "tables" for the club, which is very fun to play at.

I have no idea since I can't be bothered with spending 3 hours in total driving to LGS and back. I decided to talk my friends into playing AoS at my place. Unsurprisingly, Spearhead worked wonders. Now we have 4 players with 7 forces among us.

This is the best kit in the game I think. You can make like 30 different looking dudes out it if you don't care about box instruction autism and mix the parts up to just make them look cool. On top of that you'll still have enough shit left over to make your Hellstriders look cool and not old as piss.

breddy gud, there's a solid core of us that do tournaments and still a lot of faces at the store that aren't in our group. We're all crazy about 4th and just smashing as many games out as we can, though admittedly we do basically only play 2k matched tourney lists, occasionally testing silly skew lists is about as wild as it gets. There's some real good hobby to go with it though, one guy won best army at lgt and another's gargants are a thing of beauty.

>>93704366
Abuse teleports like a motherfucker for ez scoring and to put the Treelord exactly where your opponent doesn't want him. It's not a very killy Spearhead but it's so mobile and plenty tough enough that it doesn't matter. Personally, I've had little use for the Branchwych more often than not, losing her has never been a big issue for me, though my opponents are mostly Skaven, FEC, and Nighthaunt so YMMV.
>>
>>93704527
I want the power level of them to be around glutos or morathi currently, good but not the obvious best choice. Alarielle revive ability makes her too necessary.
>>
>>93704535
i think a lot of people underestimate how little damage things do in spearhead and how long small squads can survive.

i had a squad of moonclan stabbas survive 3 turns in constant combat. i had trolls in combat for 4 turns straight without them losing a single model. things arent as fragile as they are in teh full game, shit like treelords and kurnoth are damn hard to kill

Starting up. Casual 40k players are feeling some fatigue from 10e so we're trying out 4e to play something with a bit more flavor in the rules. I played my first game, spearhead size but we didn't have the spearhead decks. Cities vs Hedonites. I did alright, I got his leader, but I let my cav get stuck in combat instead of pushing through so they stayed tied up by those -1A whip guys for 3 turns and his cav was free to wipe my steelhelms and ironweld. All in all I had fun though.

I have a question about AoS lore. Does it mirror w40k in the whole dark and grim setting thing?
I read some of the lore for AoS on the community site, and the good guys seem to be losing all the time or turn out to not be the good guys at all, but kind of a bad guys too. What is most shocking though is the fact that the humans somehow are all the bad guys. Even the good humans are ugly and not very heroic.
Is it always like that or did I just unlucky reading snipets of the lore, which is rather the exeptions then the norm.
>>
>>93708294
it's warhammer, so people generally aren't nice or beautiful and war and conflict are what most stories will concern themselves with, but no, AoS is far from having misery porn pretending to be a central theme of the setting's tone.
grim things exist, terrible things happen, evil people exist, but also noble things, magnificent things and genuinely good people too.
>>
>>93708321
Are there any stories or books about that, I would like to read more about the human factions in the setting, before I pick one. As I am more of a lore, then efficiency player.
>>
>>93708338
Don't know about any novel, but if you're in for some worldbuilding the sourcebooks for the RPG soulbound will probably do the job.

>>93708294
>I have a question about AoS lore. Does it mirror w40k in the whole dark and grim setting thing?
Yes.

It started by being a little hopeful but also very grim, but now GW has fallen back on the 40k formula since soulless no-game faggots cried online about it. Now its the same old "CHAOS WIN INEVITABLE HURR DURRR EVERYONE IS TERRIBLE" nonsense that 40k is.

Thanks, I will try to look in to them. Aside for the RPG right now which of the human factions is the good guys? I thought it was the Light Lords, as generaly those should be good, but they don't seem to be human, but rather elves.
I have seen this guys in the picture, but I am not sure what factions they are from.
>>
>>93708400
that's a bretonnian for the old world, so not for age of sigmar.

the good human factions are stormcasts and the cities of sigmar.
stormcasts are superhuman rather than being merely human, like chaos warriors but of the good god, or like space marines but made with magic.
cities of sigmar recently got a new range that tries to emphasize the fact they're the very lowly common man marching in the mud, but in theory the cities of sigmar have very wildly different looks and can be composed by a number of human cultures* in friendly coexistence with non-human races of order, for example there's a city of sigmar where humans and the light elves coexist.

*before the new range the cities if sigmar army was composed of pretty much all of the old models for the old world so you have a good precedent for taking, say, the bretonnian knights of the old world and converting them a bit to represent the knights of your city.

Currently I’m painting some stormcast as a palette cleanser between doing big Skaven batches. I’ve been doing each one a unique scheme to sell the idea of a host of warriors that remained after the rest of their cohort were reforged. But I don’t know if I’m in love with the idea, it’s coming out more like rainbow stormcast. Should I do it more like deathwatch, a unified scheme but they each have a pauldron and features done in the style of another stormhost?
>>
>>93708516
It works if you keep the metal color of the armor the same.
>>
>>93708516
What’s wrong with rainbow troopers? You could also paint the shoulder pads , knee guards, and or helmets etc the same color to show a unified force even if they’re largely different
>>
>>93708516
>I’ve been doing each one a unique scheme
>it’s coming out more like rainbow stormcast
Why would you expect it to turn out any different. If you want a unified force then you need a unifying theme
>>
>>93708516
>Should I do it more like deathwatch, a unified scheme but they each have a pauldron and features done in the style of another stormhost?
Yes, just don't make it exclusively one pauldron, a halved scheme in the middle should be more than enough and easy too given the pectorals and abs neatly dividing the sculpts already

perhaps make the half in common something like bare iron or oxidized bronze or white-grey stone, because something like silver or white or black could be mistaken for an actual colour scheme.

Bretonnians are part of the history of AoS as a setting whether or not you like it. Also there’s nothing stopping that guy from using Bretonnians as a proxy force for Cities of Sigmar for example. Only limitation would be most tournaments, but even GW would let you play it in their heavily restricted stores because they are still GW models and they are a part of the history of the setting.

Something less garish would be cool for another human faction. The armor designs for many cities of sigmar human units are cringe. Imagine a race of low tech high magic humans coming from an area that similar to Albion. Rune tattoos and more primalistic human casters ( druids instead of wizards ). It would contrast great between the high tech cities of sigmar humans.

Sounds like you don't have much experience with 1-shot "trap" weapons. Glutos's has no rend, so unless you're using it against chaff, there's a good chance they're gonna pass the save roll anyway and you'll feel like shit having "missed" your big 6 damage shot. You bait out the temptation dice because it works against their insecurity of possibly taking 6 damage and guarantees them the surety of a 6 save instead of rolling for it.

You could run Nagash + Morghasts and do okay with OBR. Morghasts are very monstrousy, Nagash is a huge skeleman but probably not what you're thinking when you say monsters.

FEC are sucking right now but terrorgheists heavy list are possible.

Avengori SBGL which is basically the same thing with vampire centaurs mixed in.

Trog gloomspite gitz which is probably gonna get nerfed.

Sylvaneth list heavy on tree lords (no idea), Seraphon dino heavy (also no idea how well they're doing).

>>
>>93704177
the best purchase is actually nothing. you need to study up, learn your army, and get some mentors for your faction. And probably your army faction terrain. you picked tree shenanigans so learn them. spacing is pretty important in sigmar.

learn to magnetize well because you want to be able to swap kurnoth around and switch at least some treelord types around.

beetle girlboss will always draw looks so keep that in mind before deciding to paint that shit early

I've heard from a fantasy paint comp dude that wood might be best primed in a lighter brown first not anything dark

not really, there are the warcry team, which do come with 2 handed axe options for the 5 basic guys so you could potentially use them as hearthguard berzerkers.

Checked. Phthalo green is one of the toughest colors to use pure, the only use I've found for it is mixing it with varying levels of white for verdigris.
There's a reason permanent green light and Hooker's green are so popular when artist paints use monopigment whenever possible.

The models got pulled shortly after, alongside a lot of old CoS stuff.

A few months back. Beastmen are a core faction in Old World and will likely be getting a release soon. Next confirmed release is Warriors of Chaos, then High Elves most likely. Following this you will have the likely Beastmen and Wood Elves release pair. Probably by end of year at the latest going by their current release speed.
I know it sucks, but look at the bright side. There will be a lot of old Beastmen models available online and made to order, stuff from earlier editions. So you’ll be able to feast.

>The question is: why is GW using same Tzaangors in AoS and 40k? They tend to separate their settings.
Chaos daemons are canonical to both settings. If the same characters are in both places they aren't going to double up sculpts just because.

Yeah most likely last in the list. If we’re going by the esoteric numerological puzzle hidden in the rule books art. Which has been 100% so far. If next race release is High Elves then we will know Empire is last.
The reasoning is probably that Empire has the broadest appeal and people who have already bought an army for Fantasy will buy empire in addition to what they already bought. So they are spacing it to give time to save funds.

Now if only they'd put out some of the weird old character sculpts they fucking will never put out again.
>>
>>93713201
I saw them painted in standard flesh tones once and they looked really creepy and cool that way
>>
>>93713565
Kinda like when you paint stormcast entirely in flesh tones.

>Tzeentch is marketed/pushed the most
Huh? What pararel dimension do you live in? Hes literally the most irrelevant? Only ones people care for unironically are Khorne and Nurgle, then you have Slaanesh for "sex, isnt it funny" crowd, and tzeentch kinda exists on the side

Looking at getting into Stormcast.

What are the current top teir units?

Units to avoid? (Other than those getting legends)
>>
>>93714296
If you can't figure out by yourself, which units are good and which not, you are in the wrong hobby.
>>
>>93713111
Not every army needs to have the same cookie cutter roster
>>
>>93714440
sure, but cool tzeentchian warriors need to happen, it's the lord of fucking change and there's barely one (1) instance of a mutation
>>

Got tabled in the second half of Round 2, so points didn't matter.

It went from 8-10 to 8-27 once the other rounds were played out for the sake of quests/whatever.

Is Belladama + Torgilius and 40 wolves too strong for a casual 1000pt tournament?

The 44×30 board size means my wolves will quickly control the entire board, and eating through 80 wounds being healed and brought back by two wizards is a tall order at this game size.

its good but not unmanageable. go for it

I plan on making a mark of Slaanesh on one of my female Stormcast. Just a little bit of it poking out somewhere.
>>
should we expect anything in the previews this week?

No.

I use vashtorr as a demon prince proxy.
He's the kind of guy you can put next to soul grinder and it won't stand out

>>93715506
For the preview show? Remaining new Stormcast Models, roadmaps.
For next weeks Pre-Orders? Almost certainly not. Skaven are technically possible but unlikely this soon.
>>
>>93713710
slaanesh has the best range by far, its not even close.

I mostly agree with this, I don't quite think longstrikes are that good, and I think lord-celestant and lord-cele on dracoth with quicksilver draught and bodyguard is underrated.
>>
>>93715240
Its not a fun list at all so why would you even considering bringing it to casuals if you're asking.
>>
>>93715680
you may want to read the most recent FAQ update before fielding quicksilver draught
>>

Is there any website other than the official app where I can build lists for 4e which also have armies of renown available? I mostly use listbot but they don't have it.

Why doesn't it grow an extra pair of arms so it can dual wield the bow and the sword?
>>
>>93715798
Not from that channel. There are a few tier list for other factions on some channels from people who are skilled tournament players if you look for them.
>>
>>93715716
I thought it confirmed the stronger interpretation
>>
>>93715851
Because Alarielle decided all Sylvaneth would be humanoid, even Drycha's crazy ass wasn't able to break away from the template she set for them.
>>
>>93715540
Isn't he like twice the height of a DP and like half the width. Genuinely asking as I've never seen vashtorr out in the wild
>>
>>93715932
It's been stated in the battletomes that Alarielle doesn't actually decide or even know what newly sprouted sylvaneth will look like.
>>
>>93715949
I read that as she doesn't know if a seed is going to be a dryad, wraith, treelord, etc.
>>
>>93715942
Nah, he's roughly the size of a daemon prince. His tactical ground fits perfectly on a DP base too

he's on par with belakor (less impressive because his wings are tamer and he doesn't have a tactical diorama) but both are smaller than greater demons, including the verminlords who are huge.

I think it's fun, lots of run and charge, resurgence and board control.
It's also thematic, Belladama leading her wolves like some studio Ghibli villain.

Are vigilors any good or are they gonna get replaced by a better shooting unit on wednesday? Their buff sounds good but not 5 models for 140pts good
>>
Tried 20 blue and 20 pink horrors today. Dear god it was an absolute slog.
Not sure how the faction is supposed to kill high save dudes though. Almost nothing has rend and they all hit on 4s and wound on 3s or 4s as well.
I suppose you dont need to kill dudes when you out OC them and score tactics?
>>
>>93716930
They're ok, if you have 30 points you can upgrade 5 vanquishers to them. They're probably 10 points too expensive or so.
