The amount of Tyranids in orbit casued a living aurora borealis like formation visible during night.
And depending on the hive fleet size, they already drown distant stars when coming in and they cover the local sun in shade.

Now that sounds cool until you think about it, how is that possible since the light is coming from the sun, there's no light shinnng onto the sun they are shading

>Tyranids create artificial night when they invade
The dark Eldar and some chaos nights do the same thing when they attack. Its a really kino piece of imagery that at least 3 factions do in 40k and like no one else in sci-fi, pulpy or otherwise has the tech to do so or the interest in doing such a form of terror tactic. Should be represented in animated 40k stuff more imo, under appreciated how errie sudden night is during the day, even when people expect it via eclipses

>Though the circumstances of their initial meeting are known to few, the once-lost Primarch of the Dark Angels and the Warden of the Imperium Nihilus fought alongside one another prior to and during the Battle of Idolatros. Just as Roboute Guilliman found himself impressed by the capabilities of Commander Dante, so too did Lion El'Jonson. The two have since formed a close understanding, and whilst the Lion departed in the wake of the battle in order to reorganise his badly mauled Chapter and pursue his own hidden agendas, the Dark Angels and their successor Chapters have agreed to contribute a sizeable number of warriors and vessels to Dante's fledgling Fleet Nihilus. Captain Lytheus of the Penitent Blades has remained upon Baal to oversee the Unforgiven attached to Dante's battlefleet; his Chapter's expertise in void and aerial combat will surely prove invaluable in the fighting to come.

5e (or earlier but they were pretty sparse) codex maybe? I've only read one novel and there weren't nids in it so I can't think where else I'd possibly have picked it up.
It was about how tyranid interstellar travel works. They don't go through the warp, they do some kind of gravity slingshot from the destination planet(?).

>Disastrous side effects are caused by this method of manipulating a system's gravity. The ensnared planets will often experience earthquakes, solar flares, tidal waves or other natural disasters in the period between a Narvhal harnessing the system's gravity and the Tyranid fleet actually arriving. For the Tyranids this is of course another weapon as the defenders will be busy and disorganised dealing with their own planet turning against them.
From 5ed Tyrnaid codex. Wonder why it was never rementioned in later codexes, maybe GW retconned it since the gravity well they use to travel is using the starts gravity not planets

So far we have identified 3 possible lost legion chapters:
>The (original (and probably also the new) Soul Drinkers:
Most likely the part of the 11th legion adopted by Dorn, considering their personality doesn't match the description of the 2nd and that their enhanced omophagea and physical changes (space wendigos) would fit the native american theme of the Rainbow Warriors, the original 11th legion).
>White Templars:
Most likely the part of the 2nd legion adopted by Dorn, considering their personality matches the description of the 2nd)
>Sons of Malice: Most likely the part of the 11th legion adopted by Guilliman (again, excessive cannibalism also Malice is basically Malal whose sacred number is 11).

I found a printer service that sells 40K compatibles, with "14k Red Wax Resin" printed in 0.025 layer height, with anti-aliasing - pic related.
Is this a good standard for bits or would I need to work a lot on them in order to get them paint-ready?

they're not bad, but they don't deserve to be their own faction, just like Grey Knights or Death Watch
>>
>>94432229
they are a very small range and a very small force in the fluff and most of the times they deploy is as a few squads in support of other imperial armies and that means they would be better as something that exists within the imperial agents codex rather than their own thing

the hyper-elite nature of the army creates an all-or-nothing situation for gameplay that makes the battles boring or frustrating with little inbetween

due to the low model count, the relatively low price point, and the fact most of the model can be painted with one metallic colour, they're often the choice of beginners who don't actually want to play a wargame with an army they have to paint, these people have a plethora of other ill characteristics, stereotypically

if marines have a problem with the so called "bolterporn" that creates an unreasonably inflated reputation of the actual capabilities of marines, this problem is even more present with custodes, this hype at times borders on being obnoxious and involving autistic "power scaling"

finally

How skilled with medicine are Apothecaries? Like I get that they can perform surgeries on marines just find but I'm wondering how much of that can be chalked up to the Astartes physiology already being pretty robust. Like could an apothecary reasonably perform surgery on a regular human?

How do Space Marines even select for Apothecaries? I feel like your average marine isn't going to get too many chances to show aptitude with medicine in their day to day duties.

Lastly, I know there's a couple of chapters that get a bit weird/obsessive with their Librarians or Techmarines. Are there any chapters, besides the Red Scorpions and Blood Angels, that do anything weird/obsessive with their Apothecaries?

Dumb question I'm genuinely interested in. How would the Imperium react to super hero type figures if they were to pop up? If some random human got superman powers would they be seen as heretical and killed or would they accepted as a tool/heroic figure?

If it turns out they've been sent away by aeldari mind raped rowboat to make killing the emperor easier than that's sort of grimdark I guess but how else does it make sense for the emperors personal army to go do stuff? How are there even enough of them to go out and fight shit?shut? I'm assuming it's for fluff reasons like how orks getting all that beastsnagga shit is just to shoe them devolving further.

Are traitor guard any good in csm?

At best they're sanctioned as a living saint, their existence is justified as a gift by the emperor and are used as a propaganda tool, worst case they're assumed to be a mutant or corrupted by chaos, and would be captured and executed. Potential middle ground they could be discovered by a planetary noble who tries to use them as a means for their own insurrection.

Short answer yes, how do you think space marines are made? They proform surgery and implantation on children. Apothecaries are in charge of making new marines, creating marine organs, fixing wounded marines, implanting cybernetic or vat grown limbs, putting marines in dreadnought, countering enemy toxins and alien pathogens that marine immunity system can't handle, they also devise their own toxins and countermeasures against aliens, especially when in deathwatch, monitor health of marines. Also there is big diference between battlefield "surgery" that is more like injecting marine with chemicals so he will stay alive and surgery once wounded is evacuated. They can and do preform surgery on normal humans, but outside of creating new SM they have no reason to do it.
>How do Space Marines even select for Apothecaries?
Same how they select chaplains or techmarines, they observe and test recruits, and there is a lot of ocassions where marine can show interest in medicine, because marines get wounded all the time.

You just named entire bloodnline of space marines, genetic lineage that have it's own codex and entire army of successor chapters is this not enough? Grey Knights also have special apothecaries in Palladin Squads who are most elite GK terminators.
