what's your fav comguard mech?
>>94442559I like the Flashman, and I'm really glad the official art no longer makes it look like a creation of the fiendish doctor robotnik.
>>94442578the hornet, however, is still a mid-level boss in canopis carnival zone
>>94442578>He hates the old 3 window barrelAbsolutely disgusting. The new one looks more like an Imp than a Flashman.
>>94439239If you want goon mechs, the classics are of course Wasps/Stingers. The Quasit is a more oddball option because it's actually a militiamech, not even a true battlemech. Commandos work, as do Javelins. Much later, the first outright pirate mech is the Brigand.
>>94443005He means Goons as in Wolf's Dragoons. Falcons, Fleas, etc.
>> 94441319 > Turret weight is 10% of the weight of included equipment, rounded up to the nearest 0.5 tons.Yep, I thought I had (AC10: 12 tons, machine gun: .5 tons, ammo is not counted so 10% of 12.5 is 1.25 rounds to 1)> don’t need to put ammo in the turret-unless the idea was to try and be ‘historically accurate’ to the original, up to and including putting all the AC10 ammo in the turret and all stored pointing into the crew space, to get that iconic flying turret when the ammo cooks off. “It’s not a bug! It’s a feature” -Cappellan Historian> could’ve gone with only a 1/2 ton of machine gun ammoProbably should’ve, but I didn’t want to make the BV calculation more difficult than it had to be for a first-time.
>>94443160Meant to be a reply to>>94441319Not great at this…
if a clan mech duel results in significant general damage to both mechs, are the pilots viewed in a negative manner similar to as if they engaged in melee? what if one of the mechs has its engine destroyed? or many of its weapons destroyed?
>>94442559Love lasers, love swords, love the Black Knight, simple as.
>>94443313They view excessive damage negativley. Obviously theres going to be damage beyond their control so they accept and look past it. However, if you keep shooting a disabled opponent, or are celarly dragging the battle out, then youre gonna have a trial of greivance waged against you for being degraza
>>94443606>I challenge you to a battle for causing too much damage in another battleclans
>>94443639Yup, theres a reason most (normal) people think(correctly) that the clanners are nonsense
HONOR THE DRAGON!!
>>94443761Ah yes, the 2nd most honor-obsessed autism faction in the setting>thats actually interesting and have cool aesthetics
>>94443606Sounds good, I'll kill whoever waged that trial and do 'em slow.
>>94443761No more brother wars
>>94443813The Gladiator is probably the coolest mech I’ve seen that’s uniquely theirs>>94442559I don’t think the Exterminator is specifically ComGuard (the Star League had it first, and there was a time when other houses had it too). But that’s definitely one mech that’s in my “favorites” column. Being able to run full-tilt around the map in a well-armored heavy mech while blasting lasers and missiles everywhere and giving zero fucks about heat is nice. Also gives my opponents something else to think about besides my Awesome on the hill.
>>94443842>shoot off both the legs>Well done, Star Commander Anon, head back to base for repair and refit.>walk over and shoot off the arms, one by one>pick up a severed arm and slowly bash in the cockpit of your opponent>let me show you a bit of what I learned in the Inner Sphere
>>94443974>keeps arm as trophy
decals have arrived in the mail
>>94444014So you spray vanish, put decals on and then spray vanish again?
>>94443882Most of the Comguards' iconic stuff is just Star League mechs that they stored in a secret warehouse while everyone else smashed their toys together until they broke.
Little disappointed on how the Solaris Champions list has no rooms to shove in /yourdudes/ in
>>94443160You have yo round up to 1.5
>>94444028brush on varish in my case but yes
>>94444034The vast majority of them are just names on a page without even a known mech or nationality and there are supposed to be a bunch of other tournaments besides the grand one.
>>94444034I thought only the Class VI Champions got listed. Have they produced the weight class circuit champions list?
You know, crossing Christine with Battletech was an incredibly obvious choice, when you think about it.
>>94444206Can you elaborate?
>>94444261Weird, seemingly supernatural 'mech with a possible malevolent will of its own bonds with, and makes much worse, a person it vibes with. Though the Black Marauder stories throw in a notion that it's some sort of bizarre alien monster from outside normal space pretending to be a 'mech, or parasitically attached to one.
>>94444278Oh damn, did not know there was a movie called Christine until now. Make sense
>>94444167GomenasorryIn my defense, I totally forgot about Butte posting after being gone for 2 1/2 years
>>94444311Based on Stephen King's book of the same name.
>>94444311>movieUggh, zoomers.
heehooh I have an airbrush
Speaking of horror shits, where is my Halloween 2024 scenario CGL???
>>94444365This year, the horror scenario is... that your kickstarter pledge is in wave 6 and they haven't even manufactured your items yet. Oooooooooooh
>>94444356Thin your paints.
>>94444356>>94444375Remove your mould lines
>>94444374As long as it isn't a plastic rerun of project phoenix.
>>94444365No Pride Antho, no Halloween scenario. It was a noble sacrifice.
So I don't know if I uploaded these when I first got 'em, but I commissioned MattPLOG and figured a few people would like to see them. The prompt was focused on how a lot of Battlemechs look either vaguely like men in armor, or vaguely animalistic, or sort of just mechanical, but we never really get *feminine* builds. So I commissioned two instead! The first is based heavily on the Hardsuits from Bubblegum Crisis - in universe it's a super-high-speed Omnimech meant primarily as a Battle Armor transport.
>>94444375;w; they're coming out of an airbrush that's about as thin as it gets. they pretty much have the consistency of water>>94444396No
>>94444430And the second is a *very* heavily modified Wyvern, which already looks really humanoid with a "face" and everything. The story here is that the owner made a shitton of money, retired, and redecorated her Wyvern to become the mascot (and security system) for her new tavern. The SRM-6 makes up the right boob (it usually carries Tear Gas and Smoke rounds, or can be loaded with fireworks for parades) while the left boob has 4 tons of liquid storage for bringing plenty of beer to public events. Both have stats too, which I can post if people care, but I shan't presume.
Question When the MUL lists one BV for a unit,And the Battletech Force Manual lists a different BV for the same unit,Which value takes precedence? Since both are considered “official” and “current”?
>>94444430>>94444442Looks like Palladium shit. Typical Plog ink abuse masquerading as art.
>>94444445MUL is purportedly updated constantly, so it should take precedence over print.
>>94444413There was one, but without retards on reddit Streisand effecting it.
Would myomer be strong enough to support a walking mobile fortress? As a hexapod/octopod at least
>>94444499No, despite your impressive get.
>>94444442I dig this concept and art a lot. Thank ye for the sharing.
>>94444499That'd be a LOT of myomer. It'd be possible but I dunno who wouldd be crazy enough to do that (sans WOB and The Society of course, maybe deep periphery too.)
>>94444499>As a hexapod/octopod at leastMore legs!
>>94444532actually the society operated in clandestine units and often utilized hoards of allied tanks as bait for their few mechs That being said check out the fan made XTRO Society

>>94444532Judging by the engine rating rules the difficulty would be making an engine that could provide enough power to move at a useful speed, not the myomer itself.
>>94444591With Sub Capital Lasers even 1 movement is incredibly useful.
>>94443639Last summer, I played a GB vs. Raven game (star vs. star, all 2nd liners) with one of the locals with full zell in effect. He broke the shit out of zell at one point and turned it into a melee which made for an interesting game. At his request, we replayed the scenario a week later with zell taken more seriously and I inadvertently broke zell by breaking line of sight with an engaged opponent...not a huge deal, but he called me on it so we decided to try it one more time with better attention paid to zell and the final game featured no violations. The result of these three trials was 8 or 9 disabled mechs, 2 or 3 completely destroyed (cored out), 3 dead pilots, and 1 seriously injured pilot (5 hits), and all of it was over something relatively unimportant (these were 2nd line stars) and the resulting disagreements and temper tantrums that followed. I don't think that I've clanned that hard before or since.>as kerensky intended
>>94444557Also no
>>94444606Breaking LOS does not break zell. Common head canon/misconception.
>>94444459
Tourist here: How many mechs/lances are standard for an operation? I've played MW5 and I know the balance there is way out of line for canon, and I've read some Stackpole but it didn't cover any outright campaigns to take a planet/system.
>>94444569Site has some pretty cool Naval Vessals. I think I see a Lucius Zhao
>>94444679Shimmy > Plog as a designer and as an artist. Shimmy's only egregious sin (imo) is that good art in 2D doesn't necessarily translate over into 3D; the greebles that look good on paper are obnoxious in plastic.
>>94444442Very amusing, well done.
>>94444685If you're taking planets in an invasion, multiple regiments. At any given point on the front lines, probably half a dozen or more named mech regiments will be one jump away, and an unmentioned number of conventional regiments (probably close to two or three times as many at least) will be hanging around too. Average planets will see one to three ish named mech regiments on each side, along with again an unmentioned number of conventional regiments, probably two or three times as many. Big industrial hubs might see dozens of regiments grinding out slow victories. Now, if you're just raiding for materiel or to probe defenses, it could be anything between a lance and a regiment doing hit and run attacks while defenders scramble to get in their way. Sometimes you just want to make the other side waste time bolstering their defenses in one area.
Hey do ICBMs exist in Battletech?>>94442559Thorn.
>>94444311https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYqSugRiG5Y
>>94444676
>>94444713So, it doesn't break zellbrigen. It's a yellow card.
>>94444685Depends on the importance of the target and the time period. For example, some backwater periphery dirt farm? You get like, a locust and 2 convees. The Hesperus II Factory? prepare to face down an entire Division or two
>>94444715Circular reasoning; it wouldn't be a yellow card if it didn't break the rules of zellbrigen.
>>94444725But Zellbrigen doesn't go out the window when you do it
>>94444706Good to know. The battles Stackpole describes rarely sound like huge ones, but a few hundred mechs scattered across a planet would lead to some small individual battles.>>94444718Would the dirt farm even be worth mechs? If they have only conventional vehicles, sending even a lance of light mechs feels like a waste of resources, given the scarcity of Drop Ships/Jump Ships.
>>94444708Yes, TacOps (Advanced Equipment), p.97
>>94444763>Would the dirt farm even be worth mechs?Considering it's probably the landhold of the dude with the bug, it's probably worth it to him.
>>94444763>dirt farmProbably no, just throwing that out there as an example
>>94444763A few hundred battlemechs on a planet would be a big deal. Most planets aren't important enough for that money attackers or defenders.
>>94444761Accumulating three of them does.
>>94444763The secret is that even if you've got six or more regiments represented in one battle for one planet, they're probably not the entire regiments. Some will be split up across multiple worlds, others will hold their bulk in reserve and only deploy what this fight needs. Assault weight elements of the 1st Curbstompers might be hotdropping directly onto the enemy, but the rest of the regiment could be anywhere in a sixty lightyear radius. Or more likely in several different locations in a sixty lightyear radius.
>>94444763if you're a pirate you just land, send out your hand me down locust and whatever junk you bought at quikscell, kick over a jeep or two and get rent money, no resources risked really and it's the shock and awe factor you need to spook the yokelsthen you throw in a token patrol from the reigning power or a budget merc lance and you can begin the epic battle of dirt farm; all 50 collective tons of it
>>94444789I love how most pirates are either:1. Mercs without a contractor2. The standing army of Dirtfarm 2 who happen to have space transport.
>>94444715>>94444725>>94444761It's a relatively new thing that it generates a dezgra point at all, the novels have Clanners frequently breaking LOS to vent heat or get to an advantageous firing position and nobody cares. Not only that it's completely fucktarded that breaking LOS is a dezgra action but, say, moving to a point 16 hexes from a Nova Prime is not when the functional result is the same. If anything it's even worse, because you might be able to shoot them while they can't shoot you.TL, DR: CGL cannot do anything without fucking it up, breaking LOS once doesn't break zell, and this shouldn't even be a rule any way. I ignore it at my table.
>>94444803And then you have the professional pirates like pic related, who basically had his own functioning nation.
>>94444809>TL, DR: CGL cannot do anything without fucking it up, breaking LOS once doesn't break zell, and this shouldn't even be a rule any way. I ignore it at my table.I can get behind that. Zellbrigen is even more restrictive than bushido, and logically should have been discarded as an SOP upon first indication the enemy wasn't going to abide by it.
>>94444809>>94444827Iirc, someone explained it as an "attempt" to even the playing field by making up a penalty for kiting your opponent with your CERLL's and being permanently oit of retaliation range. The fact that this was a sugfestion furthers the theory that the Clanners were supposed to be a one-off bad guy for the IS to have their moment of unity before going back to murdering eachother
>>94444827Boy do I have good news for you
>>94444809I don't remember there being any fucking rules about Zell aside from:-one-on-one-try to make it fair>no mines>no artillery-melee is dezgra but that's not related to ZellWhat is this "don't break LOS" bullshit. Do we now have a role that it's impolite up stay outside of your opponent's range or to use superior mobility to get in their rear?
>>94444852The Steel Viper one is just what they told other people. They went out of their way to pioneer successful field tactics that could not actually work using zell and formations that did not rely upon it. They trolled that table.
>>94444852I love that the Wolves are the only ones to get stricter, after they expunge all their dezgra Wardens.
>>94444903I want to know how Diamond Shark got away with not giving a fuck without being Absorbed.
>>94444907>ill pay you 100 Kerenski's to fuck off
>>94444779Sure, more in the sense of 'the author can have a couple lances duelling and have it still matter to the overall fight, instead of being a minor detail in a battle of thousands of mechs'.>>94444784Why bother stashing most of the regiment out of the system? My understanding was that there are few naval battles by common agreement, and that jump points are all relatively close to the star (other than irregular and difficult to predict temporary ones). Having your DropShips in-system would make deployment faster.
>>94444827>logical>clannersPick one and only one.
>>94444442>>94444430Cool, I like the art and fluff. I wouldn't mind seeing the stats if you're still interested in posting them.
>>94444925Having them jumped in means they're not sitting in a charged jumpship just out of the way. Plus a staging world might be closer to more of the front line. Jumping the entire regiment way out to the edge so that only some of them can land is wasteful when they're not fighting alone and either are the reinforcements or can expect reinforcements from the 507th Literalwhos and the 12th Unimportantites who are already in system or on world.
>>94444925>Why bother stashing most of the regiment out of the system?Nta, but i think that one regiment covers multiple systems
>>94444925>>94444957The main issue is transport. States only have the space transport to move about 1/3 of their forces at a time. This is why when Hanse pressed a shit ton of his merchant fleet into carrying troops for the 4th SW, it crashed the economy and fucked a ton of planets.>What if we took the entirety of the Crucis Lancers and moved them over there.hpg
>>94444977Sure, which is why most Merc contracts were garrison duty. You hire them to sit there and if shit kicks off, they buy time for your regiment assigned to that area to get there from wherever their main command base is
>>94444934>>94444430First the Stingray, named for Sylia Stingray of Bubblegum Crisis. It's actually an Omnimech, so do forgive the long text block as it describes the several variants in succession.
>>94444934>>94444442And then Ellie's Wyvern, which is mostly a standard Wyvern that loses its LRM-10 to improve the other systems and make room for Actuator Enhancement Systems in every limb. My logic was that if you're going to give it that much lifelike maneuverability, you have to really make the muscles and joints as flexible and precise as possible or it'll look like a rumbling mannequin, not a 10m tall metal woman.
>>94445008>10m tall metal woman.Im not a robosexual, but here me out.....
>>94445019Here is not a good place to be out.
>>94444685> Tourist here: How many mechs/lances are standard for an operation?Like, how many regiments would be in a typical invasion? Or how many would be stationed on any given planet.Because the first has a whole fuck-ton of factors and variables that could affect that answer, not the least of which being “how badly does the man in charge want it?” The second one is also variable, but also more than you might think, unless the ‘gods’ I.e. the writers throw a fit and declare it less. But for example:Say you have a mars-sized planet with 60% of its surface covered in water. That’s, more-or-less, 22,296,000 square miles of land. And we’ll make this a desolate wilderness (avg. 1 person for every 20 miles) place sucks. That leaves you with 445,000,000 weirdos who are living there. Now let’s say this place has North Korea-level economy (so an average GDP of ~11,000 c-bills per person) that means your planet has an annual GDP of 245,256,000,000 c-bills. So if we assume from that a 10% military budget, a 1.5% military recruitment rate, and that the average mech costs, more or less, 5,280,000 c-bills.Then your planetary lord of this backwater shithole can support 4,645 mechs for his 6,675,000-strong planetary forces I.e. about 25 reinforced mech regiments and some change. So you can imagine what a more developed world can produce, and why the during the Star League Civil War, the invasion force for Terra was “everyone”.
>>94444879Please explain a bot
>>94444903That is not quite how that wenthttps://www.sarna.net/wiki/Refusal_War
>>94445027Hey, I may have..... exotic tastes, but im not a fag
>>94444695that's good to hear champ, so how was school today?
>arguing about the LOS pointIt's more metaphorical than literally going behind a building. They're backward, not retarded. When they say break los, they mean leave the area only to return. Like stepping out of bounds and then back in. Dezgra point would be if you had some river hidden by a hill outside the battlefield, then chose to circle the hill to the outside only to enter on the opposing side.
>>94444715It's only a yellow card if your opponent is a little bitch.>>94445027cope. Amaris anon is confirmed no games secondary, whereas I'm confirmed top tier CBT player, hotter than NEA, and I'm better than painting then every anon except one, _and_ I'm Turbo Gay.Skill issue.

>>94446226I've had mixed results with that methodology. My first AS game I took numbers over skill and got punked hard. The second game (also AS) I went with more skilled pilots and won it. Third game (CBT) I went with more numbers and spanked an elite lance with some hot dice. I'm still not certain which method I like better, having the bestest pilots or the mostest 'mechs. I need to continue testing.

>>94447718the OM model was the mountaineering model, attempting to provide some basic form of vertical mobility, while alongside with this approach, vastly increasing logistical freedom to the design's ammunition supply with the assumption of difficulty with this in deployment. it mounts a "deuxième coup" heavy particle projection cannon in replacement of the previous models ballistic biased choices, using the saved weight to mount a quintet of jumpjets, add an additional "ataque de nuvem" 4 tube short range missile launcher with an additional ton of ammo. mechwarriors would often use this second rack of ammunition to give the slow moving mech a desperately needed capacity to generate smokescreens, typical strategy with these involve using the jumpjets to "poptart" between cover when on advance or retreat, using the smokescreens to act as cover when not otherwise available.finally, the spotlight is typically used during patrols, where a spotlight with a lumen amount a single decimal percentage amount of total lumens cast on earth by the sun tends to act as a sufficient deterrent and aiming assistant in low light conditions, though a secondary array of lights is added to allow for sufficient signaling and for if necessary, road signalling.

>>94447690None of these are lances.Force 1:Looks like an okay post-invasion 2nd line Star. The Thunderbolt is a good all rounder and they never let me down, the Awesome is a great fire support piece, the Locust is an okay harasser/init sink, the Exterminator is a decent enough brawler. Its not bad.Force 2: 2nd line Star post invasion/frontline Star in the Pentagon WarsIts another good overall force. You have the Beamer and Griffin for opening holes, the Wolverine for trooper work and flanking, and the Commando for exploiting opened sections and crit seeking, and a Catapult for support. Its good, bar the Griffin being gunnery 5. Better to drop it to up the gunnery/piloting on another mech.Force 3: My bad, an actual LanceAnother solid build, though I would trade the Catapult for a Thunderbolt if you can, or a Warhammer. Its got all the needed components, though it is a bit heavy. You might want to exchange the Cat for a Wolverine 6M.Force 4: Revival era Frontline StarThis one I am a bit ancy on. You have a lot of missiles but not a lot of direct hole punchers. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but if the opponent gets under that 7 hex minimal range you are going to lose a lot of firepower. The Stalker is solid, so long as its used right, but this composition really does not benefit it well, unless your opponent is running a slower force. It is cool to see infantry in use though. In general, when building a force you want to keep in mind that you want a good mix of mechs that can open holes in the enemy armour and others that can exploit them. Some slow tough things are good to absorb fire, but mobile units are also good to have so you can force a flank or exploit an opening. Experiment and find what works.>>94447236People would respect you more if you didn't act like a cross between a petulant child, a teenage girl, and the worst refuse of /soc/.
>>94444715I think that you're confusing breaking zell with declaring a melee, anon. Whether or not you're playing with the dezgra point system (we weren't and don't because it's fucking dumb), a melee is not guaranteed by breaking zell.In the first game, two uninvolved mechs cored out my already engaged Horned Owl from behind. Given that this was a serious violation that would probably cost me the game, I felt it reasonable to declare a melee over that. In the second game, I accidently broke line of sight during a duel, caught the error during the shooting phase, apologized, and re-established LOS the following turn. My opponent did not call for a melee over that, as it was only a single violation and a fairly light one at that. After the game concluded, he argued that the results were void due to the violation and demanded a rematch - in other words, he handled the loss like a clanner, which I have absolutely no problem with. That's part of the fun. This wasn't a campaign so there's no penalty for wasteful activities, but the guys that I game with found the concept of two 2nd line clusters on some backwater planet smashing up two stars worth of Clan standards and SL antiques over what essentially was childish bickering and rules lawyering, all while an invasion of the IS was going on elsewhere, hilariously on brand.>and you wonder why the invasion failed>clanners gonna clan

>>94446732Sort of. My HEMA club is opening up a gaming space along with their own privately owned gym, and by popular vote is playing 40k. Which I'm not thrilled about, but I'm not going to shit on their parade at the start, and will work on converting them to BattleTech and Levs later on (2 of them are already historical navals players, and 3 others are actually in Cincy BT and I introduced them to HEMA in the first place). So I'm headed over there with my Praetorian Guard for some 500 point games before my hockey this evening; I haven't played since 4th edition came out, but I'm sure it's not all that different. Then hockey game, which counts as it is a game, and then I come home and do the full writeup for the next Rangers scenario. Picrel.
Re: breaking line of sight and zellDo remember that someone fighting for the Pryde Bloodname piloted a Summoner loaded with nothing but a narc launcher and LRMs and fought on an island with a ton of dense jungle and a giant mountain in the middle. He jumped in, narced the opponent, jumped back out over the mountain, and indirect-fired LRMs from out of line of sight until the opponents Mech was slagged.Absolutely nobody had any issues with this. It wasn't seen as a violation of zell in any way, even though the opponent literally never had LOS on Aiden's Mech after that first narc hit.Play your zell accordingly.

>>94448076That confused me enough that you made me hit the books, NEA. I don't see any mention of line of sight being broken. In fact, the island is noted as being relatively flat.>Joanna studiedd the terrain, which was relatively flat for an island. She figured Machiko had chosen it to prevent Aidan from being able to carry out any elaborate maneuvers.Admittedly there might be further mention of it in a later source, but in the novel he closes with a Hellbringer in a Summoner, Narcs it, jumps away, and then wins because a Hellbringer can't pursue a Summoner or trade with it at range. If there was a later retcon that fleshed it out further, I don't remember it.Also, not for nothing, but the application of zell in JF's bloodname trials seems to be different than zell on a battlefield. Nothing wrong with that, I've argued for years that zell is too situational and has too many edge cases to be adequately covered by published rules, which is why I earlier stated that the dezgra points rule is dumb.>>94448136This duel is covered in Bloodname, Chapter 34. As far as I can tell, Aidan was relying primarily on bad writing to win. Most armor is better than Hellbringer armor, but plot armor is the best armor of all.

>>94448076wait didn't the clans develop streak LRM specifically because losing indirect fire was seen as barely an issue? and then some retard in the fedsuns put it on the atlas-3, a command mech that could very much use indirect fire in its role and the weight savings of non-streak c-lrms to upgrade other components (which is irrelevant but that decision makes me irrationally annoyed)?
>>94448415For the Atlas III, the point of streak is that you can drop LRMs on everybody every turn without having to baby your limited ammo. You can even use it on secondary targets without having to give a damn.
>>94448454>limited ammoa problem readily fixed by clearing up 5 tons when downgrading the launcherI'm sure it works fine but it just makes more sense to me, in universe, when designing a command mech
>>94444311>>94444340>>94444352Honestly, I think the movie is better than the novel, a rare case of that. It cuts out the evil sorcerous ghost possession nonsense that isn't as cool/weird as a living, loving, lunatic car and it's just generally paced better.Honestly, a riff on Christine would make an excellent 'ghost story' for Battletech. Guy finds a barely-functional Star League era mech in some lost Periphery shithole. Won't let anyone else near it, works as both pilot and astech. Starts behaving in a bizarre, anachronistic way. Somehow he's getting systems back up that should have been irreparable. A few of Our Blessed Order go mysteriously missing investigating it when the MechWarrior is nowhere near it.
>>94448200Sounds like a screaming good deal relative to the product delivered.
>>94448454> the point of streak is that you can drop LRMs on everybody every turn without having to baby your limited ammo. You know, most players will be firing off their missile ammo as much as they can to deliberately empty out their ammo hoppers before a lucky shot cooks them off. sure you COULD just dump the ammo, but we both know that the moment you do, some Locust or Spider is going to run up behind you and shoot you in the back, causing an auto-cook off
>>94448556There's a lot of Stephen King stories like that. The Shining, The Mist, Christine all spring to mind as having the superior version in the adaption
>>94448484Streak launchers hit with all missiles every time, so you're gonna have to install two LRM20 launchers and enough ammo to get the same average damage.
>>94448591The Shining's adaptation does not compare, and I don't mean that it's really good or really bad, just that it's trying to do something completely different; I get why King doesn't like it, since it totally ignores the novel's central thesis. I will note that the movie being beloved is a new phenomenon, critics hated the fuck out of it and audiences didn't care on release - found it boring. The Mist - well, it has a better ending in movie form, a 'Richard Bachman' ending, to be sure. The rest is almost 1:1. King's actually on record as saying he would've used that ending had he thought of it and likes it better.

Question for designing battletech combat vehicles:I’m trying to convert some historical & modern combat vehicles to work within the game and hit a bit of a conundrum:Would a halftrack be considered a “tracked” or “wheeled” vehicle? Because the Techmanual really won’t let me split the difference, for unit creation it has to be one or the other.
>>94449150Check Technical Readout 1945, it might address this already
>>94449150Tracked, halfbacks are propelled by tracks, wheels just steer.
>>94449150According to Vehicle Annex, Half-tracks count as tracked.According to RL, the whole point of the thing is that you get a low-effort tracked vehicle that can run off a simple engine setup and steering system.

>>94449239>>94449169Well, the TRO1945 is a little bit of a letdown, but not wholly useless for my purposes. For one thing, I don’t see a BV in any of the sample pages I found, and they are using circa 1945 weapons (which means different stats).See I was thinking of doing this, but with the theme that they aren’t actually the stats of the combat vehicles of (1939-2020), but “battle-ready historical replicas”. Meaning they were made to closely resemble the historical originals but made some “modern” concessions and adjustments for the sake of ease of production (like using 3060 alloys in the armor, but still to similar thicknesses, or replacing the antique 45mm tank gun with a mostly-similar AC2)That’s kinda what I was expecting.Still, it’s not a complete bust. Gives some guidance on certain things that I would’ve just taken ‘creative liberties’ with.

Tonight, my First Free Worlds Guards engaged the Cthulhu's Horde mercenary unit at a fortress. The mercenaries made good use of the terrain, placing the Atlas and Thunderbolt near the breach at the center of the main wall, where my Banshee and Zeus weren't willing to cross because oh fuck 30 SRMs out of the Atlas A. I tried to hook my Phoenix Hawk and Jenner around to the right, and I was well on the way to beating the Shadow Hawk when my Phoenix Hawk took a PPC headshot. In the same turn, my Jenner took a hip crit, so I retreated to preserve my remaining mechs. The Omen campaign is probably close to over. The Wolf's Dragoons, despite starting a turn late, have pulled ahead with 8 wins, to the Explorer Corps' 5, Free Worlds League 4, Aurigans 3, and Horde's 2. It's not Dragoon fiat or anything, he started with a level playing field to everyone else, it's just that he's been playing this game for thirty years. We will probably call it in his favor soon.

All 3/4My opponent ran: Warhammer IIC, Timber Wolf Bounty Hunter, Pack Hunter, Dasher H, elementals lasers. His skills were something like 4/5, 4/5, 4/1, 1/6, 3/6. I told him that was stupid and his skills skills should be within 2.He had the map placed out and made of 3d terrain and was sitting on his side. My stormcrow is separated while he gets 3 mechs shooting at 2, both my Shad and Wolverine taking head hits and a fair bit of damage elsewhere. Shad's CT getting opened by the Pack Hunter. My Shad alphas the dasher, cutting off a leg and side torso, the fall destroying the other side torso for kill. There were people everywhere in the store and like, 10+ people assembling gunpla and one of them would randomly say stupid stuff really loud and he was balding and gross and had dandruff. >>94451041Colors are honestly a bit of a mess. The US Army, which I consider a huge factor in people's understanding of what olive drab us, had 5 different types of olive drab between the early 1940s and late 1950s.(FS-33070) followed by the slightly brighter(Nr. 319), then there was also Khaki Olive Drab (FS-34087), near the end of the war they used (FS-23070) which was similar to the later (FS-24087) but a bit lighter. And them you have all the issues with reproducing those colors, issues with the color chips which weren't matched, changes in the color's formula over the years etc.Deep Sea Blue, which the USN used for planes layer in WW2 is a good example. Not only were there 2 colors, ANA623 and the latter FS15042, which was said to match its predecessor in tone, not only weren't the FS color chips matched, ANA623 had its formula changed and different manufacturers got different chips in the 60s-70s.Colorcouts even checked with a lab and found out that their FS15042 didnt match any ANA623 wartime paints.
>>94444809>relatively new thing in battletech>since the 90'sYou do know that CGL didn't invent the Clans, right anon?
>>94451131Moderately sexy for my age? I don't have a picture of it, but on the next turn I play even more stupid, sending my stormcrow into the middle of his mechs 1v4, not dismounting my elementals. His Warhammer gets back shots on my Stormcrow and thankfully misses with the PPC. Stormcrow hits the Timby and I roll cluster with box cars and regret not single firing, if I had decapitated it there the maneuver would've been worth it. The stormcrow goes internal rear left with no crit, and the right arm is open. The turn after (picrel) jump stormcrow runs around the hill more, jumpy bois do jumpy stuff. Stormcrow gets its leg shot off and TC' Timby does a lot of damage to the Shad, missing the open CT but leaving it in a bad way. The Pack Hunter is barely holding on but still has all components.
>>94449620I've never seen a clear explanation but if I had to guess, it would be similar to having an enemy within range but not firing at them - insufficient aggression and/or implied cowardice.
>>94451185His Warhammer looks to finish the Stormcrow, which fails to get up and can't prop itself up to shoot because the UAC is in the remaining arm. My mechs all alpha the Warhammer and I fail to breach back armour, Warhammer losing an arm but otherwise spreading damage. My other mechs don't take significant damage. Stormcrow is kill.
>>94444430How big would you say the Stingray is? I found a model that might be able to be kitbashed for it, but it's 15mm tall.
>>94451202Final turn ends with my elementals stripping every point of his back armour while still failing to go internal. My Conjurer fails to kill his Pack Hunter somehow, and the Shad doesn't do anything meaningful. In retaliation his Warhammer decapitates my Conjurer and his Timby does the same to my Shad. Rip, 4 headshots throughout the game for him and none for me.I call GGs, we chat a bit, agree to play within the next couple weeks. It was a decently fun game and I know what I did wrong (play bad and fail to confirm any crits lol). I also didn't have any 15pt guns and the Stormcrow at 3/4 was probably too big of an investment, but I dislike running Clan pilots with skills worse than 3/4. I'm gonna ask for no skill differences >2 next game and maybe rethink my list. The people next to us were playing hex based AS and finished up a bit before us.
>>94451120>His skills were something like 4/5, 4/5, 4/1, 1/6, 3/6.Holy shit, lol.That and his list tells me that he's a min-maxxing whore.
>>94451226The Stingray is a proper battlemech, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the smaller size. Myself I've always felt that 12m was too big for mechs, and mentally rescale them to 5-8m.But "about the same size as other battlemechs" means that any mini which you can convincingly stand up next to other mech minis ought to be the right size. 15mm is probably a little too small to convincingly stand beside the new Catalyst minis.Have one of the pictures I used as a reference material though. I think he might've been slightly over BV when I was 176 under. He also set up the map and kinda implicitly picked the side he was on, the objective being in the center with 0 cover, aaaaand his Warhammer and Timby (and Pack Hunter) made me think he tailored the map to his list (because why wouldn't he? that list is WAAC af desu).I'll set clearer rules for next game. I'm thinking Clan v Clan again, but strict 3050 (?) production date, skills within 2 points. I'd ask for unit appropriate skill levels for the force being represented but that seems like a bit much for this guy, seemed like a lorelet. Map will be made by both players taking turns placing terrain, scenario picked by the method described in Instant Action (both players selecting an agenda and then revealing and consulting the chart), and THEN sides will be determined by roll etc. What do you suggest as a good year for Clan Invasion, the 3060 designs are a bit bleh imo.

Like designing two forts in the map editor kinda deal.Progress on the 70s Carpet Lance, which is getting upgraded to a 70s Carpet Company. Sagitare is done and the Goliath and Bushie are getting there. Redid the cockpits on the older ones and need to touch up the recipe for their gunmetal as well, I figured out better processes & paints since then.I now use metallic airbrush medium + an ink, it's really nice because if you add any ink (transparent paint) you can make any arbitrary colour of metallic. The gunmetal recipe on the new ones is just black base, black ink + metallic, metallic highlight. The cockpits are just that metallic medium + a blue ink.
Aaand played around with airbrush a bit with multiple layers of brush on paint between coats. Enjoying this one a lot so far.
Huh, so even by the time of Ronin War 99.9% of things were Introtech?
>>94451424agreed. Actually, MWO MW5 etc were right and should be canon for this.
>>94451182I don't care if the Clans aren't their fault. Battletech is owned by CGL now and it IS their fault that they've kept the Clans around and haven't retconned them away and banned everyone who plays with them.
>>94451549Depends on which set of retcons you choose to believe in.
>>94451592Can you elaborate?
>>94451549Originally, yes. There were prototypes, but Level 2 tech was only just starting to see mass production in 3047 - IIRC, the Marauder -5D was the first production Mech with that kind of stuff. In particular, the first upgraded Drac Mech, the Grand Dragon, was 3050. And I'm pretty sure that originally all of the Rosebud stuff was downgraded to introtech.Since CGL started releasing a bunch of stuff in the past because they couldn't figure out what the fuck to do about the Jihad and Dark Age, less so, because they (and players) wanted to play with DHS and stuff in 3039.
>>94451608I thought the first production mech with level 2 tech was the Blackjack-3 (St. Ives PPC + DHS build)?
>>94451607Various authors have been inconsistent about how quickly advanced tech became available.
>>94451613That's a retcon, introduced in Historical: War of 3039. The MAD-5D is from TRO3050 (the original, not Revised or Upgrade).I was actually mistaken, by the way, about the first Drac Mech, since the Dracs started producing MAD-5Ds as well at about the same time since they captured the factory on Quentin while it was being reconfigured for the -5D.
>>94451621To further support the Blackjack 3 being a retcon, I want to point out that TRO 3050 has an entry for an upgraded Blackjack and makes no mention of the earlier one (other Mechs mention all of the other upgrades going on).

My Marauder was crippled when it's left torso got blown off and it fell down, and my Warhammer had taken a beating to his armor, but my Thunderbolt, Phoenix Hawk, and Awesome were more or less fresh. He abandoned the field after his Hauptmann died, and I logged my very first Battletech victory. >>94451694>have ancient beater passed through the unit for over a century>Procurement issues replacement upgrade because the Dragon rewards its warriors for their loyal and steadfast dutyWhat happens to the old 'mech? Does it get a respectable end, stripped for parts and the unneeded scrap ritually destroyed by the firepower of the lance in a glorious sendoff? Or are they ignominiously retired and sold off to some sort of planet-sized pick & pulls for randoms to buy by the chunk, its past service forgotten? These are the kind of in-universe questions that haunt me when I drink.
>>94451986I can't imagine anyone would destroy a working 'mech, so it's probably rotated to garrison some nowhere planet, or used for training new mechwarriors.
>>94451986If they're still viable first line mechs they'll be sent to regiments with lower procurement ratings. If they're no longer viable first line mechs but still serviceable they'll probably be sent to reserve units or planetary militias. If they're clapped out deathtraps they'll be sold off to mercs.

Is the FedSun really one of (if not the) poorest faction/House economy-wise?
>>94452057lyrans are in a bad place in ilclan, far from their rich kid originsFWL must be a travesty with what a clusterfuck things have been over there and still missing a member state (I think?)Periphery, sample textI have no idea what's going on with the falcons post ilclan trial but given their territory just disappeared all at once they probably had to switch to store brand bird seed
Suppose your centerpiece mech got unlucky PPC hit in the HD in turn 2~3. How should you play that mech from then on for the rest of the game?
>>94451822>4/6/4>two PPC and two medium split between the arms>11.5 tons of armor>15 SHSIt's not perfect, but it has more survivability, more heatsinks, another movement option, and energy weapons are just plain better. Obviously you can't go crazy with the PPCs, but just do the old 2-1-2 chain and you'll be fine.
>>94452074Avoid crit fishers and mechs that want to punch
>>94452099I'd personally ditch the jump jets for more armor and heat sinks.
>>94451848you're saying you actually repair your shit instead of crash into each other with guns blazing as you close distance?nigga something wrong in your head

>>94451929nah you're thinking of the gauntlet, which is pretty useless
>94452136>94452148Shouldn't you be cowering in fear of NEA's batchall about now?
>>944513665-8 meters would probably put some light mechs at 15mm, but that's out of range of CGL's models. Then again, if the Stingray had the Narrow/Low Profile quirk, it could work
>>94452057They allegedly lack the concentrated heavy industry of other Great Houses, but I don't see how that's plausible, given their actual military strength. I think the idea was to cast them as plucky and clever tacticians instead of an industrial powerhouse that could churn out endless regiments to throw into battle. Where that stands in the ilClan era I couldn't say.
>>94451366>Myself I've always felt that 12m was too big for mechs, and mentally rescale them to 5-8m.Those are Protomechs.

>>94452304How long do we have to wait before you French kiss your turkshit then?
>>94452138>>94452114Fine fine>4/6>10.5 armor>a PPC and a med laser in each arm>20 SHS so you can keep blasting your PPCs like the pigs you are satisfied?
>>94452339>satisfied?No. Riflemen are required to mount a combination of autocannon and long range energy weapons to engage ASFs. Any other loadout is invalid.

>>94451182The rules for breaking LOS generating Dezgra points despite this being illogical and running against what the novels say were written by the same fuckups who are now CGL. >>94452057Yes, but it never affects them in any way, shape, or form.Either they get the Lyrans so their logistics is sorted or the fact they shouldn't be able to afford the most advanced army in the Sphere and, typically, the largest, simply doesn't get addressed.

>>94453039They are more deserving of personhood than Capellans. At least autocannons serve a useful purpose.
>>94452057No, it's more the case that a lot of the FedSuns is poorly-developed. They tend to have highly concentrated wealth and development compared to the other Great Houses. The poorfags of the setting were the Capellans.
