I think MMLs are pretty neat.
>>
Would the Clantech have been that much of a shock in 3050, when endo, FF, XL, pulse, Devastator and shits were being deployed?
I'm not sure if the Clanbusters are necessarily better than the SLDF Royals that Comstar had at their disposal

I bought a Hornet today because it sucks. Not sure what color scheme to give it.
>>
>>94612761
I'm pretty sure Comstar didn't have many/any royals or the documentation needed to copy them. It was part of the retcon to explain why they never used any.
>>
>>94612701
i'd consider it If they didn't charge almost the same price as your order in delivery fees for non americans

Weird how i can get 2kg of clay shipped to me from the US for 8 bucks but it costs 27 for 200g of plastic
>>
>>94612761
There was a brief period IRL where the writers hadn't decided that those things were in circulation by 3050, which was long enough for the flagship books of the era to be written and go to the printers. oops.

If I were in charge of rewriting that stuff I would emphasize that the problem is everyone has a careful upgrade schedule and projects full replacement of all front line units by 3058 when they get the news that thirty elite regiments of delusional lunatics with warship support are coming from the place on the map labeled "grubby pirates, nothing here can threaten us". They won't win, but they will cause lots of casualties and totally fuck the political balance.

Star League tech is vastly inferior to Clan tech save a couple SL techs they ignored on purpose for retard LARP reasons. The Devastator you mentioned is one of a handful of uptech mechs from the Sphere that can actually go toe to toe with Clanners in 3050.
>>
>>94613056
Unless you're meme-ing on purpose, the blue is a videogame thing, novels describe the lasers as all sorts of different colors

Here are the valid C3 configs (sans C3i)

As someone who runs a c3 lance the only way youre going to make it cheaper is by skimping on pilot upgrades, or using shit units. You want to leverage the networks effects to compensate for a lower G skill

The Hatchetman gets rekt by virtually everything, it's that fucking bad. And this is supposed to be the super prototype funded by the FedCom and the brainchild of Dr. Banzai who is a absolute meme and should be retcon'd from existence.
>>94613456
It's slow, no armor, and the ammo bomb in the CENTER TORSO and it's supposed to fight enemies who °360 no scope you from across a map. The Hatchetman is a expensive joke of a mech that should have gotten Team Banzai lined up against a wall and shot.

A brief period of 20 years.

There was LIMITED deployment of lostech before the Clan Invasion. DHS, ERPPCs, Artemis IV, ERLLs, XL engines, factories for all of these were just in construction in the 3040s, with the Marauder factory on Quentin being basically the earliest and most advanced. Huge numbers of DHS during '39 was a retcon (though I can't remember if it was FanPro of CGL).

Yep, Kerensky left a handful of SLDF regiments who were on the fence about leaving with Blake to help secure the HPG stations, these would later go on to form the backbone of the ComGuards.

The very first version of TRO:3050 published like six months after 20 year update says that most of the stuff in it is already in production, with outliers like the Victor 9d/k and Marauder 5D close enough to production in 3039 that capturing the factory matters.

Lethal Heritage characters not knowing about XL engines and ER lasers is just a fuckup.

Even though BattleTech is an actual wargame instead of a mini painting hobby, some people still like to spend a lot of time and effort on a particular mini. And small army sizes make it more reasonable to spend extra time.

I didn't even say you need to improve tho. I just said you should enjoy yourself. Some people have hard jobs or family situations and if they're too tired to try to consciously improve while painting that's fine. Heck, I don't even mind playing versus unpainted minis (or standees), or painting a lance or two for a friend if they're too busy/want me to paint something.

But with anon's paint jobs I don't get it. They're like, crazy bad? Like, intentionally very badly painted & displeasing to the eye? It doesn't bother me it just makes me feel a bit sad. Like the person wants me to be annoyed with the minis? I don't understand why someone would want that.

The women who are subjected to and subjugated by the male gaze? BIPOCs who are literally threatened with microaggressions when attempting to enter these male dominated patriarchal spaces? Of course you didn't, fascist pig.

What's more, everything above can be equally applied to battletech, which is a moderately expensive hobby that requires free funds, free time, and access to transportation. You fascist scumbags laugh at these paintjobs, but did you ever consider that these people might be neurodivergent? Ocularly impaired? Inflicted with cerebral palsy or some sort of muscular wasting disease or other long term illness like HIV that prevents them from being able to paint up to your white male standards? No you don't, you didn't consider that at all, just like you mock those who are unable to afford a car and have to rely on sorely underfunded public transportation to have a chance to play battletech. Consider the less fortunate, and do better next time. It's almost 2025 for crying out loud. Y'all need to figure it out.

Reading about the origins of the Combine's state-mandated weebism.

It was rumored that Coordinator Urizen Kurita II had stopped his aircar when he had seen a remarkable stand of bamboo on Luthien, thinking it would make a fine tea ceremony ladle. Just after he had descended from the car to cut off a piece of the bamboo, Urizen's car was blown up by a bomb secretly planted by a rival. The Coordinator was, fortunately, already well away from it. Tradition had it that because something utterly Japanese had saved the Coordinator's life, Urizen instituted the reforms that raised medieval Japanese culture to become the heart and soul of the Draconis Combine.
>>
>>94614842
It seems to me that the leader of a nation personally leaving his motorcade to harvest some bamboo is already pretty advanced weebery.

Surely that is actually a story about the importance of doing things yourself sometimes.

Named/Custom Unique variants: Only good for when you play as that era, that faction and that dude in semi-historical scenario?
>>
>>94615030
Pretty much. You can handwave it with "My character read about Natasha Kerensky's widowmaker configuration and had his techs copy it" or whatever, but for the most part they should stay unique.
>>
>>94615030
I don't think I've ever seen one on the table at all. The only real use cases I can see is if you're playing an exact canon scenario that guy was at or you're playing BV only with zero fluff logic at all and don't care even a little bit about what makes sense.
Most of my groups games are loosely fluffy and lean on the MUL or RATs alongside BV, but don't represent one specific canon event. There probably wouldn't be objections to bringing one named custom, but nobody's ever done it that I know of.
>>
Anybody have the premium BattleMaster by any chance? Heard it got sold at offline event but can't fimd any picture, especially pre-assembled parts (curious if the srm rack is separate piece or not)
>>
>>94615030
The vast majority of them aren't even good, and parallel development can explain the ones that are. Mech customization simply isn't that hard. This goes x10 for omnis like widomaker and prometheus.

>>
>>94615894
Then maybe you should read more carefully.
>>
>>94615872
A fair bit.

First, they got long-term technical advisors to get lostech factories actually up and running; the MOC had Helm Core copies but didn't have the industrial knowledge base to create the industrial to actually use most of the Cores military relevant data. And the Capcon advisors stuck around to keep them running until the MOC had a core of trained technical staff with experience behind them. This not only allowed the Detroit factory to work, but the MOC techs that got training were able to go back to the rest of the MOC and bring other military factories online. It was basically the technical jumpstart required to restart "modern" military manufacturing in the MOC entirely. That's a huge thing.

The MOC also got help setting up a full fledged military training institute.

They also got a mutual defense pact, and IIRC they got access to Capcon aerospace resources that let them stamp out quite a lot of the local pirates.

Both sides of the Trinity Alliance got what they wanted: the Cappies got expendable troops and hot and cold running whores, while the MOC paid a blood price to bootstrap themselves from having practically no Mech production and literally no aerospace production, to having a fairly thriving industry in both those things.

Gee, I wonder why Comstar wasn't as eager to blow up a fancy but bad dropship that can't even attach to most jumpships while doing its main gimmick when they were willing to blow up a genuine compact jump drive toting warship.

That doesn't unless that depot is known to contain a significant data core or warship. People find SLDF caches and depots all the fucking time. Comstar does not care as long as the stuff they find doesn't lead to a change in the status quo. Don't go trying to start up a factory for it or use it to nuke a successor lord and you will never get ROM'd.
>what
The MDCS system that allows other dropships to dock with the Argo and ride along on jumps also requires the Argo to occupy as many jump collars as all of them would individually. The Argo itself takes up two because it's so big (and no, it's not the first one to do that, Behemoth class droppers have been taking up two slots for irl decades). That means with just a Leopard, you're completely filling up all of the jump capacity on the average jumpship. A fully loaded Argo requires nothing less than 5 of the 6 slots of a Star Lord. It's pointless while in transit.

Any dropship with a mech bay has "manufacturing and refit facilities". You can fabricate parts in any military dropship. ROM doesn't go after Unions.
>>
Comstar doesn't go after the HBS BT players because you're already their asset. The real Kamea died when her dropship was destroyed in the prologue and the woman you're working for is an imposter. Dr. Murad is your handler on her behalf.

A hatchetman built like a jumping CN9-AL would be a genuine threat.

The Argo is implied to have some pretty advanced facilities, tbf. IIRC Yang says in one of the upgrade dialogues that he activated something by mistake and by the time he could even figure out how to turn it back off the machine had fabricated an entire arm from stock material. I can think of a few industry suits that would kill to get a look at machinery like that.

The Roughriders should have been declared outlaws and the MRB should have put a "Shoot these motherfuckers on sight" permanent contract on them for that shit.

The trick if they don't do that is to do it yourself. Offer a huge prize for dead (confirmed ID only) and bigger for alive. Torture any taken alive to death and send out the vid for free via HPG.

Im pretty new to battletech. I bought a few minis and have started painting them. Im coming from gunpla and painting, so not exactly new to this, but these are pretty difficult due to size and not being able to take the mech apart. Any advide? I have been spraying them with primer then a metallic coat, using masking liquid then doing color. Would it just be easier to hand brush? Also who makes decals for these? Only see ebay and its all from the uk it seems.

Fighting Piranha does the official decals, although it's a small operation and stock comes and goes pretty much arbitrarily.
Hand brushing is what most people do in this hobby, with some people airbrushing the majority of their stuff and just touching up edges and creases with a small brush. There is a ton of advice out there for it and a bunch of techniques. I still put stock in the older style of using thin coats of normal acrylic brush on paints to layer up the colors I want. We've also got specialty products like speedpaints/contrast paints which are highly transparent, very high pigment washes designed to go over a light primer in one single coat that settles into recesses and off of high points to create high and lowlights automatically.
Yours is coming out pretty well though.

Thanks. I have mr hobby colors, tamiya and some years old vallejo mecha laying around. My process was to spray a black primer then did a metallic color coat, then masking and a color over that. Guess I need to color in the cockpit glass and maybe do the laser lens/barrels whatever theyre called.

How can you get them off the base without snapping the pegs? Tried a blow dryer but the pegs still broke. Just something to not care about and glue it back down?
>>
>>94618132
Either just glue it back down, or paint it on the base. The pegs aren't really necessary, most models have plenty of contact area.
>>
>>94617669
Post mechs, zigger.
>>
>>94618132
Yeah, like the other guy said, the pegs aren't necessary for most of these models. If you do want something interlocked like that, you can pin them. I dunno if gunpla gets pinned or not, but it would be easy with such big feet. You just drill a shallow hole, insert a short length of paper clip, put a dab of paint on it, put the model down where you want it, use the paint drop on the base as the guide for a hole in that, then replace the short paperclip with one that extends a secure distance into both parts and superglue it all. For something like a base you don't even need that much precision and could just go straight to the final length.

I've built that, I tend to make it more a slow phoenix hawk, going 5/8/5 with a lorge laser, 12 heatsinks and 2 medium lasers lets you have near max armor, and the speed lets you keep up with most targets.

Swapping weapons forward is a bottom tier refit, down there with shaving a bit of armor off and replacing a weapon with an identical weapon from a different manufacturer. I think you can even do it in the field with just one technician and something capable of physically holding the gun up while it's outside of the mech.
>>
>>94618376
Yeah. But as the other anon said, turning weapons around is a field refit. Swapping out a weapon is a facility refit. They're not complicated and were likely done off the record.
>>
>>94618404
how the fuck is turning guns around less of a refit than swapping guns? you'd have to bore entirely new housing in the armor and re-route any ammo/energy feeds
it's like saying taking a casemate's coaxial MG and putting it on the ass of the tank is a cheeky lunchtime project

>>
>>94618376
Screw that, I would use those as generic since "No one thought of doing those kind of refits for centuries" is plain retarded
>>
>>94618417
You just put the laser bullets the other way and fire it a few times under supervision to pierce the armor from the weak side.

There's already a gun shaped cavity on the inside. Seal up the barrel hole, cut out a new barrel hole, flip that bitch over, divide the ammo feed by a star league ton and voilà,
