>>
>>94619243
For a group that allegedly hated clanners they sure spent a lot of time killing people who would otherwise be fighting clanners.
>>
>>94619266
If they can't have Second Star League
NO ONE CAN
>>
>>94619232
Very carefully.
The original yeoman has the launchers in the same location as the ammo bins, presumably it just feed directly into the tubes.
Presumably the catapult has some sort of feed mechanism that runs through the arm joint. I wouldn't think about it too hard.

>>94619266
>Get all ready to genocide clanners
>All plans imploded by Fuckwit Steiner-Davion who gives his throne to his weak siblings

It's pretty fucking silly, really.
>>
>>94619232
Have you heard of the missile dimension 'tm'?
>>
>>94619306
The collapse of the second star league was like 80% Sun Tzu's fault and yet fucking wolf's dragoons were a higher priority to the wobbies.

While this is a cross-section of a Mad Cat, I'd assume the mechanism is similar: There's a conveyer channel that snakes its way back and forth through the box launcher, and the missiles move along this channel until they line up with the launcher openings.

You have to remember that Battletech LRMs are absurdly tiny compared to IRL missiles. Based on the number of reloads per ton, they're only like 16 or 17 pounds per missile, so think something more like the size of a soda bottle, not the man-sized missiles we see in use today.
>>
>>94619354
It was 100% Peter and Yvonne's fault and their capitals got fucking wrecked immediately. Wolf's Dragoon's got their shit wrecked because of AMC shenanigans in the Chaos March.
>>
>>94619357
But they're also 100% payload, every single bit of the missile explodes or fragments or both. There's almost zero debris because even the outer casing and electronics are explosive. That's kind of why they don't change much over time, a missile that can't be jammed and has perfect explosive efficiency is hard to improve on.
>>
So if I buy the 40th AGoAC box and/or the Battlemech Manual w/40th logo now, will those have all the erratas applied?
>>
>>94619489
Yes and no. The latest printings always have the latest errata, and there's always more errata. People keep finding weird shit in even the base game decades on, and they make the occasional small change to sync up with something else or address some minor balance thing.

But yeah, errata on the webpage right now matches what you can buy in stores.

>>
>>94619403
What?

Do they not have propellant?
>>
>>94619707
Both. Mechs shouldn't use ammo based weapons. No advantage is worth an ammo explosion.
>>
>>94619865
Case and Case II solves the issue.

Plus your going to be using ammo when your on hot planets.
>>
I've been listening to Double Blind and the whole second half of the book is giving me Dune vibes.
>>
>>94619865
Gauss is probably the best ammo depended weapon in the game.

IS version runs at 15 tons with 1 ton of ammo your at 16. 15 Damage for 1 heat is an exremely good tradeoff.
>>
>>94619837
Any remaining propellant only adds to the damage. The warhead and missile body are both made entirely of solid high explosives.
>>
>>94619707
No CASE is worse, and if you aren't burning through that RAC ammo in the same time you would that single AC//5 bin you're wasting that RAC, and empty bins can are crit padding.

How do you figure?

Sun Tzu's use of the SLDF in his internal ear with St Ives delegitimized it, and if was him getting up and leaving after he didn't need the Second Star League that caused it's collapse.
>>
What if engine sinks were 15 heat instead of 10, and doubles in engines were disallowed? The middle of the road option. Some Succession Wars mechs would be less retarded (especially Drac ones), some post-DHS mechs that rely on engine sinks to do all the work won't be hit too hard. Apply this to vees too.

Practically all Mechwarriorsnare supposed to be sexy, and Clanners are supermodels. Avitue was sexy, but she also had pheromone implants that made her biologically impossibility attractive on top of that.

Next version of Instant Action will better integrate it with the new Mercs campaign system, allowing you to seamlessly drop any Instant Action scenario into the existing contracts from Hinterlands, or use the mission matrix to pick a scenario instead of the tabled the contracts provide.

It's purpose is to die in a blaze of glory that hopefully, will be remembered for future generations. It's the equivalent of your dad, instead of having a midlife crisis involving corvettes when he has a cancer diagnosis, builds a killdozer and tries to kill your local sherriff.

You can use the contract generator for it fairly well. You'd want different OpFor tables, and ideally some pre-written contracts. There was a generator posted on the CGL discord that could swap from Almotacen in 3151 to generate contracts for Outreach in 3058. Could easily make one for Galatea in 3025

I'd personally adjust it to 2500 BV per scale, 3000 if you're using TW vehicle rules instead of BSP. 3K for two mechs is fine in ilClan but in 3025 you want less.

The absence of CASE means more mechs will get completely destroyed. I'd recommend having replacement mechs be a bit more accessible, even though it's not very lore friendly, it's necessary for gameplay.

I actually saw that tried at one point. The conclusion was it might be a bit more balanced, but it was a bit of a hassle because you had to separate out damage types when counting damage, and it didn't make all that much sense because armor getting blasted off by lasers should produce as munch difficulty staying upright as kinetic weapons abd explosions.

Lasers in battletech canonically do damage by burning through the armor over an extended period, PPCs, missiles and ballistics do damage through explosive and kinetic force in single impacts or short bursts.
Lasers would cause far less instability than other weapons.

A mech generally takes a tech team of like 6 astechs and one mechtech to keep operational, right?

One (1) Fahad can take care of a company of mechs and performs mitosis in order to simultaneously repair an undefined number of mechs with split-open XL engines from the comfort of a Leopard dropship by ordering lostech parts from the local delivery service.

>>94622390
Neat. I'm looking at what my mercs are doing. At the moment they don't have a dropship of their own and are riding on other peoples' ships, so I figure the company currently consists of two Mechwarriors and a Mechtech, with the astechs hired locally once they get to the job.

That's right, usually NEA is making constructive posts and answering questions related to battletech in /btg/ and not posting his fucking ugly ass in the general.

So I'm finally getting into BattleTech after the only wargame I've ever played being Heroscape as a kid. This looks cool as fuck and I'm having a blast reading the core rules.
One big question, though: the rules say that you usually win or lose based on the elimination of the enemy army, but some adventures have alternate win conditions. How common are such things? One of my favorite parts of Heroscape was battling over terrain and objectives, and I tend to be more into that than just battles of attrition.
Thanks in advance! (Pic unrelated)

I might be misremembering, but isn't a thing where MechTechs can often be MechWarriors waiting for an open mech to pilot?
>>
>>94622795
I think ill include a note that BSP Assets can be used alongside the scenarios, just like in a Mercs campaign, but they'll just be an option. I don't really like them, I play Battletech for the nitty gritty and don't want it removed. I do plan on adjusting my unit caps and BV recommendations to match the CGL scale system. They're already very close.

One big question is, Hinterlands introduces Scanning stuff and picking up objectives, should I change my scanning and objective carrying to match theirs?
>>
>>94622826
I remember that too. Pretty sure it's a choice for dispossessed and such.

>>94622835
I'd like to imagine that small merc companies and pirate bands generally have their MechWarriors double as MechTechs when there's a lot to fix because they wouldn't have many people with the expertise, and because they'd have few mechs as it is so they need to really know how their machine ticks and make sure they can identify and fix any potential issues a layman would miss.
Maybe they even started out as techs and got the chance to pilot a mech when the last MechWarrior died/retired.

>>
>>94623092

>>
>>94623092
That is a house rule, but it is a reasonable one. The correct answer is to roll a die between 1-3 and 4-6 to determine which set of 6 slots is rolled upon, and then another d6 to determine the critical slot hit. There are no alternatives inside the rules for that procedure, and each time it results in a "roll again" you are required to start the process completely over.

However, RAW and in official or tournament play, you cannot assume your house rules will be allowed.

We haven't had a loli board since like 2003 or 4, maybe 5. That was a very long time ago. Unless you mean /b/, /trash/, or /s4s/. DESU I think you're right and 72 hours is preferred because it's long enough to be annoying without having to deny any appeals without reading them. But I also think it's a mandate from gookmoot because 3 days is short enough that you'll come back. Month or more bans make people lose interest and fuck off. I think it's more that the people who actually assign the bans are in some gay bureaucracy and that the appeal system would theoretically involve people who never, ever actually do anything so the gay niggers that actually apply the 1-3 day bans deliberately avoid anything appealable. The random monthbans were from people who just didn't give a shit and did actually have ongoing contact with site administration.

News to me about /trash/, I just assumed it was /b/ but with more furfags. To be fair, /s4s/ isn't really a porn primary board, though warnings seem vastly more common there than bans due to the shitposting it's for being so vaguely defined.

Back in the day it was actually possible to contact a mod on IRC about a ban and get a response, but I never once saw the appeal function work or heard anyone say it did for them. Last time I tried the IRC was for a month ban I got for posting something against federal law, which I'm certain I didn't do, but couldn't get an answer to find out what the post even was. I was worried at the time someone was using my wifi but it never happened before or since and I can only assume I was maliciously given an incorrect ban reason or some mod took exception with me advocating for Russians at home and abroad to be put in extermination camps.

Enhanced Autocannons.
In the year 3666 Gary Davion-Steiner-Liao-Marik (a result of Canopian Pleasure circus gone WILD) invents the Enhanced Autocannon after smoking too much crack and somehow breaking the 89IQ barrier the Spheroid population has. After reading the lore of Naval Autocannons and their Electro-Thermo-Chemical (ETC) method of operation the Enhanced Autocannon series uses this method to boost the velocity (imparting greater range and kinetic energy) to the weapon at the cost of greater heat, which is easily compensated by the Quadruple Heat Sinks (made because energy boat faggots kept bitching about desert maps) invented in 3420.

It depends on your definition of "very quickly".
A regular laser fires a sustained burst that melts the armor it hits and the armor falls off as molten liquid, pulse lasers do this process more efficiently, but not really faster. It takes place over the course of a few seconds in BT's ten second turns.
Lasers in BT deliver their damage over time through heat, missiles deliver damage suddenly and mostly through concussive force, ballistics deliver their damage suddenly through kinetic and concussive force, PPCs deliver their damage suddenly through kinetics and heat.
>>
>>94623954
>It depends on your definition of "very quickly".
Less than a few seconds, which is very quick but not instantaneous. Regardless, pulse lasers should still affect a 'mech's stability because they're the solution to slower, by comparison, non-pulse lasers.
>>
>>94623992
Pulse lasers do the same thing regular lasers do, just more efficiently. Rather than a sustained burst, they space out the burst into pulses to let molten armor fall away and deliver more energy into fresh armor underneath and not liquefied or vaporized armor.
Pulse lasers aren't designed to throw a mech off balance, they're designed to fix the problem of the thermal damage lasers normally deliver being wasted on neutralized armor.
It's not equivalent to getting hit by a bigger shell, you're still delivering the same energy as a regular laser. They don't deliver more force, they just melt more armor.

Pulses would, but a 'mech would be affected more by the sudden loss in armor weight than by the energy itself; laser's don't build a lot of force despite being a ton of light. If anything, Battletech would have rules like old Mechwarrior Clix did, where if you get shot by enemy lasers you always gain additional heat just because of it.

I'm checking out the Trove eagerly. You did a truly spectacular job with it!

I need three shitboxes on the level of Assassin: fast jumpers one light, heavy and assault, all that could pop up in the Periphery before 3050. What are your recomendations?

>Pulses would, but a 'mech would be affected more by the sudden loss in armor weight than by the energy itself; laser's don't build a lot of force despite being a ton of light. If anything, Battletech would have rules like old Mechwarrior Clix did, where if you get shot by enemy lasers you always gain additional heat just because of it.
That's a lot of words to avoid agreeing with me despite having no real objections
>>
>>94624541
I'd say Quickdraw for the heavy, stinger for the light, charger 1a9 for the assault.
>>
>>94619696
Isn't that essentially incorrect? We can argue that the Word is dead, but the Manei Domini are still around and doing the reverse clanner thing down in the Periphery. And neo-Blakist cults are still active.
Of course, we won't see them for years I presume, but they're still a possible tool for CGL's writing.
>>
>>94624803
How have manei domini, people notorious for their instability and short lives, stuck around 70+ years after the jihad?
>>
Noob here. What are infantry good for? I love the combined arms aspect, and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth bothering with the diggers.
>>
>>94624899
Spotters for artillery and indirected LRM fire. Also field guns, or anti-mech jump infantry using VTOLS or in close environments like cities.
>>
>>94624899
Foot infantry are largely defensive. They can't really move around the board, and are very vulnerable when doing so. You park them in a piece of cover, and they punish anything that gets too close. They work decently as cheap bodyguards for things like LRM carriers, and can spot as well if need be.
>>
>>94624899
Regular infantry are technically mobile landmines.
>>
Are there any other good customizable mech games out there? Maybe with some coop campaigns or something like that?

Don't ask me. Ghosts of Obeedah simply told us that the Manei Domini started their weirdo exodus in 3132 with their still sizeable warship fleet and went to bumfuck nowhere, Periphery to come back to save the Inner Sphere when they'll be sick of the Clans.
So the Word is dead, but the crazy cyborgs aren't.
>>
>>94625108
That just means manei domini left the inner sphere, it doesn't mean they're still alive and spooking. Manei domini are not long lived people, that a sizeable group lived that long beyond the jihad is itself a miracle.

Is 4x ERML and a tarcomp, plus an MML-5 and 2t of ammo a respectable load out for a 6/9/X mech?

>>
>>94625142
Being around and having a sizeable population in 3132 means they managed to keep up their numbers in time despite the peculiarities of their condition. The cope "the implants will kill them all" didn't work the first time after the end of the Jihad, after all.
But again, it's not like CGL will do anything interesting with them.
>>
>>94625108
At that point it's probably more of a cult made up of the children of followers and abductees rather than genuine surviving Manei Domini. They still have tech, so they can still implant new elite spooks with cybernetics. The original members would all be pushing 100 by then, which seems unlikely given how badly the cybernetics impact their lifespan and how much stress they've all been under from their screaming war fanaticism.

>How have manei domini, people notorious for their instability and short lives, stuck around 70+ years after the jihad?
Because the MD was never just VDNI and pain buffered mechwarriors, or tau zombies with every bit of skeletal muscle removed for myomer- they were people whom were firm believers who lost something fighting for Blake, and were then asked if they wanted to go into specialized trainings and perks in exchange for continued service. Avitue, the gal up top, was known for not having any VDNI systems and was largely making it as a special ops "Ghost" with her only implants being used for learning and influencing people in speech more.

A lot of my local players mainly play mech only, a few have tried BA.
Fewer still vehicles, and even fewer infantry.

Why is there such a high perceived barrier to entry for using infantry?

Personally I think it's the lack of readily accessible record sheets. Having to Techmanual your own units all the time is a big hurdle imo.

I'm almost certain there's stuff about how post clan invasion it was decided that the extreme variance in the Aerospace phenotype wasn't actually helpful and they became a lot closer to the mechwarrior lines.
>>
>>94626984
Infantry are a specialist unit, they're only useful for very specific scenarios that don't tend to come up. Even the slowest mechs are far more mobile than foot infantry and so mech focused battles move around way too much for the average infantry platoon to do much. Plus you need special weapons to deal with them since they made big guns only kill one or two guys per shot, and that's just annoying when you're here to smash mechs together.
>>
>>94627061
You'd save 14 tons between the structure, engine and jump jets if this was a 55 ton ton mech
