and I can already tell it was a mistake. It cost me around 700 bucks ($20 USD) (plus shipping) and for that amount I can just buy two armies for historicals and play that using warhammer fantasy (or 40k with ww2 figures) that's insane!
I think I'll stick to historicals... I already have a pirated printed copy of 1e and 2e, along with 3e and fantasy 1e and 2e.

Yeah, I'm poor, compared to UK standards, but then again, compared to other minis available in my country, that seems super-expensive.
I mean, I can buy two boxes of ww2 italieri minis and play with the price of a single space marine. That's absurd...

But since I don't know anything about boxes, maybe I bought a "character" which is rather expensive compared to rank-and-file marines... I guess?
>>
>>94638783
>compared to UK standards
Don't worry about it. Post-Brexit, people from the UK are like 3rd worlders when it comes to employment. They're being way under paid atm compared to literally everyone else.

I prefer making characters out of normal figures and bling them enough to stand out
>>
>>94638680
Let me show you my for real monthly expenses and you tell me if Warhammer being too expensive is the problem.
>Mortgage $1350
>Car Payment $250
>Gas $180
>Power and Utilities $135
>Internet + Phones $165
>Groceries $500
>Prescription Meds $120
>Subscription Services $190
>Child Care $1000
>Warhammer $160
And that's before getting into any luxury or gifts or unexpected healthcare expenses.
>>
>>94638783
Yes, you bought a character. It sounds like it was already discounted by quite a bit too, normally characters are like $30 or more. Boxed sets are about $50 for five to ten models (depends on the army) so if you are getting a similar discount that may be like $40ish.
$100 a month is pretty much nothing for an adult in a developed nation if that is their hobby.

The two main Space Marine troop options (Intercessors, Heavy Intercessors) are both absurdly broken right now. I'd wager that running big on foot infantry is worth it. Heavy Ints are practically immune to small arms fire and have a pretty gnarly damage output against non-vehicles (Trading super well into 2w infantry) and regular ints get T W E N T Y bolter shots per squad of 5, with Assault on everything for solid mobility.

These two kits should not be as close to one another as they are. Why would I ever buy SG when I can buy jump packies and stick a human head on them and spray the whole thing gold. Even from the companies perspective it makes no sense as both fill the same niche, but one is more expensive so you'll sell less of them. When both moulds would've cost the company the same amount, it makes no sense to have another mould released at the same time that fills the same niche

GW needs to give Primaris armour multiple patterns like the firstborn marines had instead of standardizing all the power armour to look the same.
They already kind of did it with the raven guard having beakies but they need to add more.
I know third party exists I'm just pointing out that GW is missing a lot of milking they could be doing to marine players.

The politics are the fault of companies that make the board's topics political, but the moderation issue is one that should've been solved years ago. If we can't have honest discussions about our hobby here, we may as well post on plebbit and piss in a larger puddle.

No I don't think they count as different armour patterns as they are confined to a singular combat role or combat style.
I mean an entire armour style that encompasses the intercessors, phobos, gravis, bladeguard etc.

Yeah. I blame Chapterhouse for why GW seems now autistically against customization beyond colours and head swaps.
>It also tends to go against the new design philosophy of the space marines; specialist units that do one or two things really well.
That might actually be the new philosophy now that I've given it some thought. That and I think GW has trademarked the design of the primaris and doesn't want them to have much design variation within them as they don't want to give third party an inch.
And if I may play tinfoil hat conspiracy theory here, I think it is also to make third party models easier to identify at tournaments. Makes me wonder how big the office fight was to give the Raven Guard upgrade sprue beakies.

Hello /40kg/, I could use a hand.

I know nothing of 40k. Read a couple books, recognize the memes, but I'm a shameful mtg faggot. None the less, my brother is a massive fan and about to move across the country for his job with the military. His friend he plays with has taken to pubstomping him; he has more money and fancier models. For christmas I'd like to help him, and so here I am seeking sage advice.

Now my brother is retarded, bless his soul, and incapable of strategies. Here is his friend's list, hopefully in a readable format. I dont know what any of this means. My brother is a huge orks fan, is there anything he could do to help even the playingfield? In return I have over a decade of work safe tiddies and my brother's most prized model to share.

It's not a customization thing, in this case. It's a gameplay thing. GW does not want wound allocation shenenigans to happen again.
Fun fact, a Runtherd has T2 until the last grot in his unit is killed. Once that happens he becomes T5.

Going off memory, here goes:
>Wounds are allocated before saves are made
>Therefore you can choose to allocate wounds onto high toughness/armor models in order to make the squad more durable (Usually to save a special weapon like lascannon or multi-melta)
Basically an extra toughness or two, combined with HQ models being 3+ wounds, meant that HQ model made the squad around 50% more durable.

>>

There unfortunately isn't. Most paint companies just try to colour match as best they can to get customers. ArmyPainter has some colours that are close enough to Citadel paints and I think ProAcryl is the same way, but AK Interactive mimics Vallejo's historically inspired colours.
The only reason to use other paints besides Citadel is money. Citadel charges too much for too little the same goes for Duncan's Two Thin Coats paints.

But no matter what try not to get stuck with a single paint brand. We have console wars like discussion about paints sometimes here and in WIP.

I use AK Interactive paints and ArmyPainter washes diluted with speedpaint medium. The only Citadel paints I've used so far as is a marine juice mixture of Reikland Fleshshade lahmian medium and ArmyPainter Dark tone

That’s it. My dudes fought in the Occlusiad war alongside the iron hands and hate them with a burning passion. I’ll dump a bit of greentext autism for it:
> Occlusiad War Late-M37

>The Coal Hearts provided force contributions to a number of smaller battles against the Occlusiad and the Blind King. The 4th company specifically was most active during this time, crushing a Cohort of Cybernetica death machines and their minders at the battle of Tricythera. They would go on to fight alongside elements of the Iron Hands on a number of occasions during the long cleanup operations following the fall of the Blind King and his Apostles. The two forces quickly came to detest one another, hampering their combat performance and leading to a rift between the chapters. The Coal Hearts passionate and often improvised combat doctrine meshing poorly with the methodical, clinical, and cold Iron Hand way of war. To this day the chapters still avoid one another whenever possible despite both chapters’ taste for augmetic enhancement. With the more utilitarian Iron Hands unimpressed by the masterfully crafted augmetics frequently exhibited by Coal Heart veterans and the Coal Hearts similarly disdainful of the Iron Hand apathy towards civilians and allied personnel.

>you still have to be mindful when applying it but it's a lot easier to get clean results than just slopping undiluted washes on marines
Yeah I know not to apply too much of a wash over a miniature as it will leave marks where there is too much wash. And diluting washes if I am right makes the pot or dropper's contents last longer.

My army is not going to be marines its going to be the guard by anvil industry as I want them more personalized than just colour schemes I already read about washing resins and have some greenstuff with me and I saw marine juice as a nice kind of wash for speedpainting.

Looking for advice/inspiration with my Necrons. I was initially going to the paint them in the Tsarakura dynasty scheme, but after doing my first 20 warriors in that, it feels kind of boring. The Szarekhan scheme has been growing on me, but when I google pics of it, it often looks kinda rusty or flat rather than bronze/brassy. I'd like something regal that brings out the arrogance of the Necrons, rather than a paint scheme that goes more for the murder robot idea.

Tips for colors? Pics of your Necrons? Advice on maybe making the Szarekhan pattern more "noble"?

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the scheme because it's absolutely lightning fast to paint as well.
I'm planning 3 more squad, one yellow and black with flamey patterns, one red and white with sharp triangular patterns and final I'm not sure, considering black and white with a few checkers.
Then I'm planning 2 squads counting as aquilons, from a different regiment of the same world.
Then I'll have to make my tanks blend with these guys better somehow.

I'm so sad that the special terrain from the KT sets didn't get packaged into terrain boxes.
Would have been lovely to be able to make varied ship interiors, especially if they expended it like the zone mortalis stuff.

But as >>94641085 said so well, there are 3d printing options for 40k space ships, so it's alright, plus I'm sure it's not too hard to copy the existing boarding action terrain for your own use!

chaos in general isnt treated very seriously outside of the chaos marines themselves. the daemons rarely get attention, their codex is an afterthought and a weird rainbow mish mash instead of being with their respective god legions, and as far as non chaos marine mortals go, most of the gods only have a single unit, like jackals or poxwalkers, i dont think slaanesh even has one. tzeentch has the birds only by virtue of getting them secondhand via age of sigmar.

40k just hasnt done anything with its chaos armies that isnt power armor related compared to age of sigmar
