Work has pretty much stalled on my dwarf-fortress ttrpg conversion attempt, here are some tables I made for mining, maybe they'll be of use for someone. I also have a half-made forgotten beast generator that I'll try to finish up sometime. The precious metals table roughly follows real-world distribution, for adding fantasy metals I'd probably just swap out 2/3 or 11/12 or both.Strip Mining (1d6): 1-2. Mining Table: Stone 3 . >>94664317GET THIS NAUGHTY GRINCH OFF THE SLEIGH
Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you're all having a good holiday season. I got a lot of D&D related things this year. For one, I'm getting older and it helps to have larger dice. So I asked for 25mm dice, and everyone got me some!I'm about to start another session of my current Scarlet Heroes campaign. (I'm a level 2 fighter with a negative strength score. It makes for an interesting game where I have to use my massive health score and social interactions to my advantage.)Even though I've been using Scarlet Heroes for a long time, I still occasionally have questions that come up that make me wish they had an official Scarlet Heroes Discord or something. I understand the whole "Rulings over Rules" concept, but there are some fundamental things that I need to either make sure I'm getting right, or need to have explained more thoroughly.
finally starting my Savage Worlds dungeon crawl keksupposedly it's a shit system for dungeon crawls, but I got the "Gold & Glory" book that seems pretty ideal for solo dungeon crawls, which might help getting used to Savage Worlds before I try a homebrew setting or other type of gameplay.
I got Scarlet Heroes for Christmas and am gonna put my current other system game on hold while I try it out. It’s the first physical media of a solo game ruleset I’ve ever had. I kind of want to get the other system I use’s book now too, but this should do more than enough for me for now. Do you guys use nothing but PDFs or do you have a few book books too?
>>94667298Using only pdfs is annoying, and home printing just isn't as nice as physical booksSo, I do buy few books, mainly core ones that are likely to be referenced often.
Starting a new horror game. Idea was that the main bad guy almost runs me over to initiate contact. The oracle went wild and now there's a dead guy on the road and my PC is hurt really badly and passed out, because he tried to save the guy and failed hard. The oracle just turned my game into Misery meets I Know What You Did Last Summer.I'm okay with it. I've never played a really hurt/has trouble to move around PC.
How often do you guys homebrew random tables for your games? I am finding myself doing it more often these days, replacing a bit things like inspiration keywords. I find it generally more "solid" so to speak and functional.
>>94669446I haven’t too much aside from making tables of characters and locations. During down time with a large eatablished cast of minor npcs in a sort of hub area I’ll roll list-of-character table and then list-of-locations and then some other oracle to decide what little encounter I run into with them. If it goes well I give a point to a relationship tracker thing with them and maybe they can help with the next actual adventure. If it goes badly enough then they can become the next enemy
>>94669446d6 tables? All the time.
>>94669697What system do you use, anon? That's a bit similar to something I tried for one of my games.
>>94669725It was on ironsworn starforged. I used the games “Tick system vs challenge roll to level up” for regular relationships like the game normally does, share good moments to build ticks and then evevntually roll a d10 against that tick number to see if the bond levels increase. I eventually added a threat clock though to make it harder. When I fail interactions or do shit they don’t like the clock fills up and once it does they either stop being as friendly or become hostile. Haven’t used it too much in current game but I interact socially a lot less so far. May move the system into my new game on another system
While hiring henchmen in town, my party leader (paladin) came across another paladin level 0: A girl (1-in-6 chances of rolling a ladyknight) with retard-tier INT (-2 penalty) and specialization in diplomacy and inspiration. She has no relevant or remarkable bonuses anywhere except a meagre +1 STR.Basically I rolled a glorified cheerleader, and it's so fucking hilarious that I am seriously considering hiring her.
>>94663810How do you get past the self-awareness? The feeling that you could've just imagined this yourself and you went through a bunch of unnecessary prep work making these tables and maps just to tell yourself a story. When does the self-deception kick in and my mind let me have fun?
>>94671021?Do you also get that feeling when playing videogames?Idk, maybe try strongly guided gamebooks first, stuff like Fighting Fantasy or Lichdom.
>>94671021Stop thinking about how it sucks and pay attention to the details of the game. It sounds like you are ruining it for yourself.
>>94671021The 1st step is to stop thinking of ttrpgs (solo or not) as stories: That's a very common yet lethal misconception to blame for innumerable campaign failures during the history of the hobby. It's the result of putting the cart before the horse: Trying to tailor the experience of play to produce stories to be consumed rather than stories being the subproduct of actual play. You as a GM and also as solo player are first and foremost an arbiter, someone that mediates and regulates the interactions between imaginary characters and a imaginary world via your chosen ruleset. Think of your campaigns as scenarios, not as stories.2nd, you want a ruleset that is conductive to that approach (scenarios, not stories), not a storygame. The second can work, but it's far more difficult. You want a game with strong procedures and structures like most OSRs, Mythras, Pendragon and similar systems that rather than produce "narratives" or "scenes", they give you rules to interact with a world. Find a game like that, submit to the rules, and you will realize that even most oracles are unnecesary. 3rd, you want a map. As a matter of fact you need a map. That's vital for the scenario to actually take shape.
>>94671021maybe you are just too insecure to play games
>>94667103How is Savage Worlds for Dungeon Crawling?
>>94667343>and home printing just isn't as nice as physical booksI'm starting to see why some people are picking up the hobby of book binding. It's getting harder and harder to find some of these books and many of them just aren't in physical form. So, might as well learn how to make a quality one in your garage.
>>94669446I used to never do this, now I do it all the time. Or I'll take pre-existing tables and repurpose them/take the shit out I don't like.
>>94671021Lean more into the game aspect if you're that bothered. Use a more complex game like Mythras instead of some pbta narrative engine.
anyone messed with ultraviolet grasslands for solo? I just came across it and the vibe is great and I like the pointcrawl caravan idea. I think if I have time I'm going to give it a whirl this weekend
>>94671021Just do the work. It's worth it in the end. You get to have notes and writing and rolling dice is pretty fun.
>>94671021>How do you get past the self-awareness?Is that a zoomer thing? Anyway, it's the journey, not the destination. It's a game. You play it. That's the goal. The play's the thing. If you want a story, just write one or have AI do it for you.
>>94671021How do you get past the self-awarneness? The feeling you could have just imagined yourself as a rich millionare and you went through a bunch of unnecessary prep work reading these rules and picking a piece just to imagine you own tons or property. When does the self-deception kick in and my mind let me have fun?
>>94677322>When does the self-deception kick in and my mind let me have fun?Probably not while playing Monopoly.
>>94671586>>94673319I'll give Mythras a try, thanks. I was using Ironsworn and constantly rolling on Oracles breaks immersion. Maybe a more robust game is the answer.>>94677784At least wait until there's a worm on the hook.
>>94673064heh, I did try binding a book for the first time today for this very reason.but also, because I'm cheap as fuck and not wanting to pay 50e + shipping for books
>>94680318how did it turn out? was it difficult?
I'm at scene 6 of my new horror game. This is... different. Firsts scene I got hurt really badly by the bad guy's car and thought it was gonna turn into Misery, but the oracle had other ideas. I'm trapped in a weird dreamscape. Very psychological and surreal, not like the Dreamlands of Lovecraft or anything. I found a manor called The Manor of Forgotten Regrets, My regrets. Well, the PC's. There's a room called The Library of Repressed Feelings in it and one called The Cellar of Attrition. It's that kind of game.Maybe my PC is dead and it's LOST. I mean purgatory. No polar bear so far. Oh, and I got to the manor by following the path inside a painting that was hanging on a lone tree near a cliff.Fun times, and the hints I get about my PC backstory are pretty chilling. He might have repressed memories and a dark past. Or the bad guy is using the dreamscape to shape him into a follower idk
>>94681187It turned out surprisingly very good, I'll certainly do it again for next books I print.>Was it difficult. Not really, but it was slow.
Resumed playing my DnD 3.0 Skeleton Champion game after 2ish months of not having time>All adventurers are dead>But The Call is still on going>There is an odd sensation in my mind, like some will trying to exert itself on me, and I feel my control over my lesser bony brethren slipping>Seeing as I have nothing better to do I follow The Call too, moving with my surviving skeletal sleeping buddies through corridors and rooms, more joining us as we go, until we join a great chamber>The chamber is full of rank upon rank of skeletons and in the centre is a great stone obelisk that thrums with power>Leaving my fellows to fall in I walk up to the obelisk to examine it, The Call nolonger affecting me>A voice calls out>I look over and see an armoured vampiress walking cautiously over>I cant fully understand her, though the language is similar to what I know, though what little I do comprehend tells me she is wary and trying to command me>I cannot speak but try to communicate through gestures>She interprets this as a threat>I try to gesture that I mean no harm but she readies herself and summons skeletons to surround me>I go on guard and she exerts her will on me, holding me>She is curious and, from what I understand of her words, does not see me as a threat. But I could hinder her plans, and she has no time to figure me out>She readies her rapier which sparks with magical flame>I manage to break free and our blades clash, animated bone against sanguine fuelled flesh>But I am lesser to her, even without the skeleton army aiding her>Her rapier, shrouded in flame, rips through me, shattering bones and severing my spirit from my vesselWell, that was anti-climatic. I thought we would end up working together but the dice decided otherwise and she was far ahead of me in both stats and gear. Not sure what to do now, I might start a new game using a simpler set of rules, like Cairn or a lewd game using BBB.
>>94682800Where do you get the names from?
>>94683212what oracle/ suppluments were you using?
>>94683286Random letter+imagination/contest (if any)+oracle check to see if my idea is true. If it's not I have to come up with a completely different idea.
>>94683441*context* not contest
>>94683289Oracle was a mix of mythic and a generic d6 no and/no/no but/yes but/ yes/ yes and system, and I was just using my old dnd 3rd edition books with the Skelton Champion template taken from the d20frps website. Kind of miffed, I was hoping for a great campaign spanning multiple adventures with epic fights, and eventually finding who I once was.
>>94673059It was surprisingly fun, but most of what I used was from Gold & Glory (seven dungeons or something like that) rather than core book, which is very osr styled, yet worked quite smoothly.
>>94671021do you also feel humiliated for writing? Its basically the same thing with more dice.
any anons here ever play journaling type solo games? if so, any recommendations?
>>94689233I've played English Eerie. It's fun.
>Always playing heor/paladin type of characters, decide to switch it up>Junko is an oracle kitsune whose curse is fire>Caused her parents to meet a crispy end as a child, doesn't want to admit to herself that she's cursed and that her visions of fire aren't abnormal>lived her life as a charming little liar>now that she's old enough to travel 16, she just goes from village to village, peddling bogus miracle cures and telling people their "fortunes" for a coin she instantly gambles away>basically a sleazy little bitch>until she arrives to this big city and people make a commotion and demand to see proof of her "miracles">guards show up, saying that the local baron demands to see her>ohfuck.shit>on the way, she snoops around a bit and the guards let her know that the baron and his daughter are depressed because of wife's untimely death>bingo>meeting the baron, she piles lie upon lie about her supposed miraclous powers, how they come from a relic now lost in a dungeon, how only she knows where it is and how to get it to work, how she can even bring back the dead... if only someone could pay for the expenses of setting up an adventuring party she could lead *wink wink nudge nudge*>everyone in court falls for it except the captain of the guards who sniffs her shit from a mile>baron is willing to give her funds, guard captain intervenes demanding that he goes along with his elite guards>you know what? Fuck it, go big or go home. Junko says that if the baron wanted the relic for himself in exchange of financing the expedition, he could just send his daughter along>Trust me bro I will protect her with my life eggs dee>This is the toughest lie she ever tried to sell, decide that the DC for this roll will be 30, pretty much impossible unless I roll a nat 20>roll a fucking nat 20>Now she's looking for two competent (cheap) adventurers she will be able to trust and abandonThis is so fun wtf.
SO. Update on my Star Trek Adventures.my crew are on their way to find a lost science ship, after a month spent 'downtime' between missions while they charted as many of the expanses anomalies as they could find, adjusted for them. and fed all that data into a purpose built computer lab / astrometics lab they built. they have Invented the predictive automatic moddeller. now whenever they encounter a phenomenon or effect they have previously encountered and adjusted for, the A M 'remembers' and automatically compensates.the entire idea only even worked because my crew, being temporally displaced from an earlier era where there was NOT so much heavy automation aboard starships, used their much larger crew and took the concept of shipboard automation far further than the TNG era starfleet of Narendra station to whom SOME automation has become so commonplace. now the ships got science teams and engineers maintaining and programming the A.M. to keep it in spec and accurate, letting the ship automate the tasks exactly as it was programmed to by the crew. now, with the far, far smoother sailing, they have some time as they warp towards the science ship's last known co-ordinates. so I rolled on the extra tables in captains log for events. i got training.and security. so my bridge staff,(as part of running the whole crew through it for parity and fairness and what have you)are going to run security's Kill Houseyou know those death house scenarios swats, and special forces do? well maco's did them too, and redshirts had their version of the kobayashi maru, etc...i haven't decided what kind it shall take. shall my crew enter the holodeck and be faced with a last stand? buying time for civilians to be evacuated? or are they infiltrating a borg cube trying to desperately rescue crew and escape...infiltrating a romulan prison to save a flag officer? security's own No-Win scenario...
>>94689820That's fantastic, what are you planning to do with the daughter?
What's the best solo game for post apocalypse stuff in the vein of Fallout (not the same setting necessarily)?
>>94691778I did play another session tonight>bought random shiny baubles and drinks with the expedition's funds>tried to hire a newbie soldier and a mage for a "get paid when we finish the quest" kind of deal>the soldier took it but the mage demanded half his pay before leaving, so she gave him some of the soldier's money and gambled (and lost) the rest>bought some more equipment with the "put it on the baron's tab, am doing work for him" payment plan and managed to bullshit her way through when the blacksmith's apprentice asked for some sort of contract>told the soldier and the mage that they will be spending the night in the inn, then went back to the baron's keep and asked for a room there since she's a guest>spent the night telling the baron's naive daughter, who's so excited about the prospects of adventuring that she's squealing like a rat in a cheese factory, all kinds of bogus stories and bullshit adventures that she kept making upI have rolled more Lie and Diplomacy dice with this character than my entire lifetime of playing ttrpg.I honestly advise anyone who's getting bored of their campaigns to play a new one with the exact opposite of the character archetype they're used to playing. It's such a breath of fresh air.
Are there any solo RPGs that you can just play with your phone?I mostly tried Character AI and Chatgpt but it's nothing special.
>>946929781970, my beloved...As for your question, why not just play a regular ttrpg? I used to play on my phone a lot when chilling alone in a bar. I replaced that with just reading, but it was honestly just pure comfy to play out a pubfight scene while sitting in an actual pub.It does help that i play mostly pathfinder and there are lots of apps and support for that on mobile.
>>94692978there's this apphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF9sBZ3KiuE
>>94692978>>9469301370s 4EverIronsworn has some apps that you can play the whole game on.
>>94692978Where's the skintight tactical leather bodysuit with the yo-yo weapon?
anyone tried soloing Ultraviolet Grasslands? I like the vibe of the art and tables and the caravan concept. I'm going to give it a whirl this week(end) hopefully but just curious if anyone else has tried it
>>94692978Protectors of Empai Tirkosu has an app. I use it with Obsidian for note taking. There's also a mobile port of The Augur (ironsworn), but it cost money last I checked,
>>94698504Feel bad cause i know you were asking in the last thread too, But no i havent, good luck thought m8

>>94692517What do you use to come up with like the "Events"/ Rumors that happened? Like with the Barons wife being dead did you use some kinda oracle or table?
Never played much 5e, and I didn't like it much when I did play it. So, I'm going to start a 5e solo campaign in 2025 and attempt to play it all throughout the year to kind of learn the system more and to also see if I like it. I've also never played a paladin before, but my friend recommended it as a good class to solo because it's tanky and also offers a lot of options like spells and abilities.
>>94704958>5edont do it bro
>>94704994Half of the problem with 5e is that you have to play it with 5e players though. So if you take those away, that solves half of the problem! If it sucks after I play a few sessions, then I'll just stop.
>>94705139you still have the other half of the problem left.I did play 5e with cool people and it was very much not worth it as a system (still had fun thanks to the other players being cool people though).
>>94701128actually I thought that didn't go through and I forgot to check hahaI'm gonna run the setting with my homebrew system during downtime at work this weekend. i figure its a good way to playtest what I've got so far while also scratching my druggie silk road itch
>>94704902Honestly, a bunch. But for that specific roll I think I used the moods table from the solo toolkit to imagine what kind of person he was and got sad/depressed and made up the rest.>>94704958Do you play solo often? Because "difficulty" really has no play here when you're the one balancing encounters.I play PF2e and I make bullshit characters like rogue/witch multiclass, which has 0 synergies, but I can make it work because I don't really follow encounter balance recommendations and just make shit up as I go.
>>94704958Wouldn't recommend playing with only 1 character. The more characters you have the more easily bad luck can be balanced out so rolling poorly only a couple times doesn't doom you.For ease of use and reduced bookkeeping it's probably best to use simpler classes for the comrades that don't require tracking a bunch of resources. Fighters, Barbarians and Rogues mainly. Warlock is the simplest caster as they just have 2 max level spell slots that refresh on a short rest. Though I did homebrew my warlocks to have access to other class spell lists (Cleric and Wizard) and let them cast any cantrip as if it was Eldritch Blast + Agonizing Blast so Firebolt at level 5 made 2 separate attacks with 1D10+Casting stat for damage.
>>94705666>For ease of use and reduced bookkeeping it's probably best to use simpler classes for the comrades that don't require tracking a bunch of resourceshireling classes already exist
>>94705682Yeah, those would be better if you don't like character building.
>>94705576Do you think you could list some of the tables you use?
>>94706176I have plenty open at any time as I like using tables from different files to switch it up a bit.The ones I use the most are:>Tome of adventure design>Solo adventurer toolbox I/II>Ultimate Toolbox>Mother of all encounter tables>Fantasy town oracle
anyone know of some good modules for solo sci fi?
new year's goal: actually get a fucking game off the ground instead of stalling out within the first few rolls, if it even gets that farbonus points: not a fucking brainless dungeon crawl, the only thing anyone suggests and my least favorite type of solo game
>>94706728Have you tried something slice of life? If so, I have the tool for you!
Happy New Year, thank you for introducing me to solo play, it's fun. Thanks.
>>94707105Damn, never thought about doing Slice of life type stuff in a ttrpg, is there more of that sorta thing?holy hell theres a 15min wait time on posting, when did that happen and I hope someone gets fired for this blunder.
>>94671021I try not to switch between too many perspectives. thas what leads to analysis partalysis and it feeling like work instead of an experience. The oricles and shit that I use almost always focus on the main character's perspective so I feel like them instead of a tard rangler for various elements.
>>94707105Literally any game that isn't DnD will support non-dungeon crawl play. You just have to figure out what it is you're looking for and a system that supports it. For me, plain slice of life is actually difficult to properly run, so forcing myself to do so hopefully helps me develop as a GM.
dead thread dead board
finally got started with ultraviolet grasslands. Headed out with some mules and goods to a place supposedly 2 weeks away. got lost which set me back a week, narrowly avoided some raiders, weevils ate my supplies, and almost ran out but I came across another much more serious caravan and bought some rations from them. Finally made it, struck a dope deal with the nomads there and sold all my goods. Got a tip on some places to check out nearby. Oh yeah I'm doing all this because I'm searching for clues to the end of the world, once I have enough to find where it will happen I'm supposed to deliver a soulstone that has 1/3 of the soul of my long-lost lover. I'm being financed by a dogheaded anarchist who is trying to track down some intruder from the void that is working to end the world ASAP. I like the book, gameplay is a little wonky because idk what I'm doing and also I'm trying to use my own system with it so checks and stuff are needing a lot of adjustment. I'll keep at it until the world ends though because I want to talk to this biomantic cave octopus wizard I was told about by the locals
My new years resolution is to finally sit down and play Starforged.
>>94713739what should i post about
>>94714066checked and that sounds awesome.
>>94711684even DnD supports NON dungeon crawling play. there are entire rulesets for outdoors wilderness stuff, great for rangers and barbarians. you can play entire campaigns just chillin inna woods, living free.but this requires playing ADnD, which for some reason people balk at, despite it actually being the best DnD that shouldn't have been replaced with crappier 'new' editions
>>94715130>2e/3e don't support non-dungeon-crawl playYou must be 18 or over to post on this site
>>94711370Star trek adventures. my guy. there's entire mission briefs about NOT 'end of the universe' crap. you can work up a crew who tool around on a fucking miranda, or a nova class, just doing shit like charting nebulas and what have you, and focus on their day to day, programming computers, doing maintenance, playing hookie on the holodeck.hell, my crew are about to kill time as they warp from point A to B by doing some training on the holodeck, just because I want to bone up on the combat rules, since I have really only glanced at them. since i only done ship combat so far.(i fucking love phaser arrays. versatile 2, area/spread. WOOF)
>>94715135Ok faggot, come back when 3.5 et al have baked in rules for attracting men at arms and building your own fucking freehold to Found your own fucking kingdom.come back to me when new, retarded DnD has baked in rules for cleric building their own fucking temple and attracting underling clerics, and a congregation to serve (and tithe)new DnD sucks all the ass. go forth and fuck thyself, fucking appeal to authority clown.

>>94715152>what is stronghold builders guidebook>what is ultimate campaignBesides, BECMI is the best DnD
>>94715223>needing a splatbook for something that used to be a part of the core rulebook
>>94715293What were the core rules for stronghold building?. I've seen pages posted but they were practically freeform. That can't be all there is to it.
>>94715293Didn't you know that these days things like "your imagination" and "common sense" are extra
>>94715405ah, so they really were just freeformThat's fine, really, I never planned to use the Stronghold Builder's Guide as anything more than inspiration. The players don't really need/care to know most of the details but I am still a bit disappointed.
>>94715186>>94715223Nta but does anyone know of any system neutral resource for these types of things?I just hate class based systems / exp / sd&d sacred cows stuff, I want autistic systems that I can just plug in elsewhere.
>>94715423BECMI and ADnD had actual rules for it, although my recollection of ADnD only recalls named level characters getting followers and being "allowed" to build things like keeps, strongholds, mages towers, etc. I think BECMI went so far as to have fief building rules which is a step above just building a stronghold.Besides, you can always use things and convert them over.>>94715428It's not system agnostic but I've heard the Harnmaster domain stuff is autistic in the "simulationist" sense
>>947154782e has actual rules for it in the core books iirc. For fighters and barbarians at least, I think?3e has actual rules for it in multiple sense, with the most obvious and most direct being the Leadership feat. You have nogames fakegrogs jerking off to their freeform rules, but here are core rules in the core book for the same thing in 3.5 without even reviewing how it's been expanded in splats.
>>94715223>splatbooksthat's not baked in, dumbshit. thats extra crap bolted on. you really DON'T know anything about DnD, do you? what a fucking poser.
>>94715667More importantly go actually read the Stronghold Builders guidebook.Things in it are so expensive that it falls purely into 'Mother may I?'
>>94715312ADnD DMG.at high level play, ADnD gameplay seriously changes. a 12th? level fighter, attracts a body of men at arms, there's tabloes for generating them and their captains, and so long as the foighter claims territory, clears it and begins constructing a keep, they stay loyal, theres tables for base loyalty generation, and improving their loyalty, etc. and as you build your keep, patrol the lands, build roads, etc. you start generating wealth in taxes from the towns, famrs and crafters that crop up settling on YOUR land. its fucking awesome. get's a bit spreadsheety / SRPG / civ builder, but that's what makes it challenging. because a keep can get stupid expensive, and you have to pay everyone too. your 6th level captain won't stick around if you pay him a copper a month etc.and there's very different versions for the other classes. thieves get to start a guild in some city, clerics a temple. mages luck right out though. they get to build a measly tower. and can attract a whopping... d4 apprentices. woooo. basically you use them as crafting slaves, teaching them low level spells in exchange for them being your whipping boys.it's why ADnD is actually the best DnD. instead of the fighter just getting hittier and tankier until he's borderline Superman... and doing the exact same shit he did at level 1, just with NUMBER GO UP, the actual gameplay changes and now your fighter is Lord / King Biggus Diccus of his brand new realm.
Dreamscape story update.I realized that moving things around turn the weird but generic sounding rooms into rooms themed and named about my own past/personality. So I can shape the dreamscape in my own image.I did that for a while and discovered that now the painting of myself has become a portal like the one that hanged from that tree that lead me to this place. I can get back to my own body! But I also found another portrait hidden behind stuff while I was moving things around. That's the picture of the guy that ran me over. I guess he's connected to this place on a basic mystical level. It's also becoming a portal like my painting. So I'm gonna take control of that asshole's body and leave him in my own version of his dreamscape.I still look like a wood puppet in the dream though. I guess my capacity to alter things is limited. Not sure if the guy is gonna be trapped here for long. Maybe I'll just kill his body in the real world and hope for the best. Maybe my 'soul' will go back to it's original body if that happens?Frankly, it's so surreal I'm not even sure my PC truly believes what is happening to him is real. But if it is, his body has killed someone. He has no idea if the thing in charge of it left any evidence so he might be a wanted man. The game feels about ready to be wrapped up.Some question are still unanswered. Why was I targeted? Is there others like me out there? People trapped in dreams with their bodies possessed by cultists/killers/whatever they are? What is the reason for the murder(s)? Some offering to their god/demon master? A summoning ritual? A basic drive of the entity in charge of my body?
>>94715696I think you've got your editions mixed up. Some of those things come from 1e ADnD and others come from RC DnD.
hey folks any interest in a telegram group? just to swap stories and resources and stuff. I know there's a discord or something but I hate discord and I'm starting to hate this site
back at UVG. I made my way (5 days) to visit a biomancer who turned themselves into a giant octopus, he thinks he is doing experiments to save the world from ending(what a coincidence). I ask him about a map, he says I have to go to a place 6 weeks away(pretty far) to stop a Naturopathic Cult Hope Ceremony from opening up something. Once I do that he can tell me more about the map(I didn't roll good for him trusting me). Before leaving I found some ancient science hardware in the cave and stole half of it, should be good to sell in the big city if I make it back. I headed back to the Nomads and got gored by a horned horse I surprised(but you should see the horse now). A nomad patched me up but really overcharged me. Now I'm torn on heading back to the Violet City or trying to follow up on this mechanical Baobab Tree that dreams(I'm starting to run low on supplies again).
>>94719068just join some pirate TG group with a discussion thread.
I decided to finally just go ahead and start playing an incredibly self-indulgent Isekai scenario using 5e.>have visions of a servant girl in the streets, talking about 'closing the portals.' >try to pull her out of traffic, meet Truck-Kun>am brought before the goddess Oracle, who tells me my spirit was accidentally summoned in an attempt to stop the demon King and his two progeny from summoning a great evil>Might be able to return home if I defeat them.>Roll up a random class, stats, and pick a feat as a Special Skill.>end up a Human Monk with the mobile feat.>roll random description>Male, lean, Purple eyes, white hair, average height, feminine features>Basically just pic related>If anime has taught me anything, I'm about to be rollin' in bitches.>wake up in a dark room on a soft bed>nobody outside>window stuck, door unlocked>dark, empty stone hallway, place feels abandoned>I have no starting equipment except some basic clothes>Time to pick a direction and go.Wish me luck, everybody. Hopefully I won't die immediately.
>>94721555You will die. You don't stand a chance.
>>94721587not necessarily. 5e fighter makes a stupidly retarded good archer for shooting things with a giant fucking bow that'll put a belt fed machine gun to shame. and battlemaster is just plain fucking nasty. because battlemaster disarm lets you target ANYTHING wielded by the target. so plot mcguffin's, wands, staffs etc, all CASTER FOCI are things you can DISARM. battlemaster fighter is silly for just straight up invalidating most casters.>oh is that a holy symbol of bane you're wielding there, evil priest, GEE, it would be a shame if some one TOOK your talisman away from you!then you have the infinite range gazillion dmg warlock blaster who only needs to know where something is in order to target it with their eldritch blast.>I see you have chosen to exist on my continent, evil dragon. pity. enjoy your twenty thousand melee rounds trying to fly to me to attack me while I blast your assyou got your bugbear polearm master who attacks anything that comes within like 30' for obscene damage too. which stops their movement etc.5e does have quite a few retardedly OP builds available suitable for isekai'd uber-heroes dumped into a setting.
Are there any simpler fantasy ttrpgs that don't use the classic DnD str/dex/con/int/wis/cha stats? I want stats, but I'd prefer something like swade where they bunched wis and cha into one stat. And preferably something with an open class system, where it feels easier to mix and match, like a mage-knight without feeling like I'm gimping myself statwise, or making them too OPI'm been out of the loop for a while, and the plan is to have a short, simple campaign with One Page Solo Adventure,
>>94722607Cairn is simple, has Str Dex Wis. and it's free
do you guys use "gm screens" or something equivalent (ie conveniently placed cheat sheets) when playing solo, especially systems you're not yet all that familiar with?
>>94722759I use Obsidian, cut and paste quick reference, tables etc into different tabs there
What's some good alternative to Tome of Adventure design, but smaller/more portable?I really want to have some printed, physical book, but that nigga is huge.Plus I want inspiration but I don't need shit to be too specific (ofc I don't want bloat either, tables for how many siblings your character had are dumb).
>>94722996It is so fucking huge that I put it on my shelf and haven't touched it since.
>>94722759isnt a screen kinda of superfluous if you are playing by yourself? Do you mean a quick reference sheet? A lot of games have those. Yes they are useful. good to make your own if you have additional things you would like to refer back too. like random tables or oricles or setting notes.
I am currently playing my fifth campaign (Pathfinder Adventure Path Extinction Curse) and i'm on book three with two Characters with mythic rules to compensate for fewer adventurers without changing encounters. How do i play with only one character? Do i give the guy an overpowered item? Do i play with Gestalt Rules? It's already pretty hard, so suggestions on how to proceed would be really nice.I'm playing on foundry using automated systems generously giving out mythic points and right now it feels balanced, but one character would speed up combat and getting through APs considerably.
>>94722017Picking something up is a free action. Disarm unfortunately does fuckall if you don't grab the fallen item.
>>94722607Ironsworn and PoET have you building your own class out of three mini ability tracks, and don't have conventional stats. Like Cairn, they're also free.
>>94705576>Because "difficulty" really has no play here when you're the one balancing encounters. That depends greatly on how you run your solo game.
>>94724706another reason I love star trek adventures.making an energy attack with the ship is a difficulty 2 challenge, did the target take the evasive action action? +1 difficulty.etc. everything already has its baked in difficulties. and for extended tasks, magnitude and resistance are also informed. trying to hack into an enemy installations computers to cause a cascade failure in its systems and melt the computer and main power? resistance and magnitude are the defenders' engineering score and control, assisted by the facilities science dept. so you add them. EZ PZ. so long as you Follow STA's rules, you almost never actually have to set yourself the challenge for things.
>>94722607mini 6, barbarians of lemuria, tunnels and trolls, >>94722713ive personally always prefered light systems with 4 stats instead of 3. 3 just feels like reducing too much
Lads how do you handle your traveling?Do you just hexcrawl a world map? Do you roll events every number of days? Do you just "cut to dungeon"?My characters will be going on a trip in tomorrow's dungeon and I don't know how to best handle it.
>>94726198If travel and random wilderness encounters aren't part of the themes for you game then you might as well skip it.I generate a map as I travel and roll for encounters every tile/day on unsafe tiles and roll only once between safer roads between towns.
>>94724326>screen kinda of superfluous if you are playing by yourselfEh they're more convenient cheat sheets.
Any suggestions for a more modern war game? I've played twilight 2000 and it's pretty good but I'd like to try something new. A set of tables and whatnot with a modern war theme would also be appreciated. Right now I have to make chatgpt spit out tables which is fine but I'd rather not use ai if I can help it
I've been having a lot of success just using tarot cards for inspiration. For NPCs, events, even to resolve conflicts. Anyone else do this?
>>94727056I do, I like it.I have multiple decks that I got cheap because I liked the art, that lets me pick the one that feels more thematic to the game I'm playing
I have been generating sloppa art of my characters in Tarot card style since it looks really good, too.
>>94727004You could try Nordic Weasel's 20th century warfare games (FiveCore and War Story).
>>94722713I've seen that mentioned before, I'll check on it. >>94724697I tried getting into Starforged, but I kinda gave up right before the first session. I think my brain is wired to have gm rolls and such. Great universe-building tool, I did put in a decent amount of work using those tables, and had a fun setup for it. PoET I couldn't find anything on google, but I take it is similar to Ironsworn. >>94724921Thanks. I'll check them out.Also. i should note that I don't hate str/dex etc. but when browsing OSR stuff, especially simpler systems, most of them had it. I never played SWADE until I tried it solo, but I really like how open the character creation were, and how the wound/HP system worked I know Irsonsword does something similar. But it's been a while, and I kept looking up rules back then too, which kinda killed the pace. I was hoping to find a simpler one to get me back into it.
>>94663810Ok, finished stating out my party for rangers of shadowdeep, excited to start playing
>>94732433forgot pic
>>94727004I have not played it, but Modiphius dropped new edition of Battlespace last year.
>>94721555>incredibly self-indulgent Isekai scenario using 5eGigabased, started my own recently as well.
Any other book like D30 sandbox companion?I like the autism and the crunchin its oracles and I wish more books went down that path. There is a million different books with "roll d6 for weather", but none go as far as this one does.
anyone used Pocket Lands? There's an old version which is just a document with rolling tables, but also a new version involving cards that need to be purchased separately (although you can find them for free if you know where to look har har).I like that it's quite setting agnostic and have been considering using them for solo, but I think hexes are better than squares for maps, and I just like the idea of drawing my own cards rather than printing them.So I guess I'll be homebrewing some abomination based on that travel system but involving drawing the hex tiles by hand in cards.
>>94733221Ultimate Toolbox, The Book of Lost Tables, Tome of Adventure Design?
>>94736839>>94735521Very, very nice books.I was mostly doing yes/no questions but stuff like this helps lots.
Zozer dropped a new edition of Clash of Steel that comes with solo rules.
>>94728872That does look very good.>>94732883I played in a 3.5 isekai game back when 3.5 was the current newest edition. It might be a bit cliche but I had a damn good time. If I did isekai I’d pull out 3.5 again and play some silly class like archivist.
>>94732883It's been fun so far, if a little slow (short sessions). I've escaped an abandoned tower (easy), met some half-orc merchants (friendly), and made my way to a dwarven town (illegitimate ruler) built into the walls of a canyon. Currently looking for work to earn money, avoid conscription into the town's militia, and figure out what to do about this whole "Demon King" situation.
>>94728872Nice. Can you provide the prompt?
>>94747798Good morning sir.No, it's my prompt I made it sir. 40$ in gift cards and I will share it please do the needful.stylized Female tarot card, "XIII" written on the top, "Gwyndolyne" is written, Gwyndolyne tarot card, colored, gracious brunette lady with her hand raised up, holy spell, gentle and pure, armor made of metal and lace, dress with metal and silk, leather bootsAs you can see, it ignores a lot of the description elements, but it's workable enough.
>>94750777Just imagine, it could *not* ignore those description elements if you actually drew it instead of going directly to the slop machine.
>>94751206Consider these counter arguments:>I can't draw>I don't care enough to learn to draw, am more into writing>I like the way it adds details on it's own, since I can just build them into the storyFor example, am using pic related for gwyndolyne as the combination of armor and cloth, along with the exposed thighs, really show how little she cares for utility compared to looks.
>>94751285>really show how little she cares for utility compared to looksWell, that's every female character played by a male human lmao.
>>94751285>not an argument, anyone can learn>not an argument, you clearly care about having """art""" or you wouldn't generate slop>not an argument, the only thing slop will give you for ideas that the actual art it's copying doesn't is "six+ fingers per hand" and "melted details"I'll consider counter arguments when you make one. Until then, fuck off to /slop/.
>>94751285>For example, am using pic related for gwyndolyne as the combination of armor and cloth, along with the exposed thighs, really show how little she cares for utility compared to looks.real historical people were often depicted with "impractical but cool" embellished clothes in paintings and sculptures. Or had ceremonial outfits. You don't need to her a retard who unironically goes adventuring wearing stupidly unsuitable clothes due to fashion.Of course you'll do it anyway and make a point of how impractical it is once she first meets bandits/orcs/any other generic rapist
>>94751294>>94751365It's fine. It still counts as half plate.
>>94751365>Of course you'll do it anyway and make a point of how impractical it is once she first meets bandits/orcs/any other generic rapistDamn right>>94751294>Well, that's every female character played by a male human lmaoThere are non-human male players? Damn your tables must be fun.
>>94751498finding players is hard, sometimes I have to settle for playing with subhumans
>>94751498>There are non-human male players? Anon doesn't have an older brother.
>See a wargame system for playing Necromancers doing Necromancer shit>Get hype as fuck to try it out>Read the rules>They're complete shitCome the fuck on. Why can't there, just once, be good rules for such shenannigans.
>>94753502Deth Wizards? What rules did you hate about it?I don't remember much other that it being edgier Frostgrave (then again there are millions of frostgrave supplements, but a big part of them is just "just use the rules that seem fun to you ;)" ).
>>94753583I despise faction based wargames where you're forced into a selection of pre-made archetypes.I'm disgusted on a spiritual level by 'Max model caps'And I have nothing but contempt for half-assed campaign mechanics, to the point where even one of my favourite systems earns itself a black mark by not having more robust options in that area.
>>94753583>>94754940I've played Deth Wizards co-op with my wife many times. It's a fun game if a bit easy. I've started adding more models to the heroes' sides to make it harder.
RPGs that use playing cards? I know Savage Worlds and Aces & Eights, and I'll be trying out Suited, but is there anything else to recommend?
>>94759478World VS Hero
>>94759478Lichdom, The Merchant
>>94759663I've also been wanting a new system to cover any genre, so this covers that too.>>94760364And these look cool. I'll check out the new MM&D for Lichdom. Thanks a lot, guys
Well. That took a lot. I blew thrpugh another like, 50 pages of a note book captain's log-ing just riding down a turbolift, talking, and preparing for their cground combat holdeck training. The command crew showing theyre not above it all, by doing the same training as the crew, security's version of the kobayashi maru.I havent decided who they're going to be attacked by. So far they're getting rained on in a jungle, they're maco's, trying to "extract under fire" to the shuttlepods and they've just been shot at.I am kinda thinking about making it ferengi. Or orions. But if i just do kilngons, boring.
It would be cool if we came up with a symbol to represent solo roleplay. Maybe a hand rolling dice logo.
