Visually she was stunning, the kind of body that drew one to sin, a light skinned Egyptian copper that you might describe as between Turkish Rosewater and Evening Vanilla. Because while I did help in the Revolt, fighting alongside others who sought to break the chains of the antediluvians, I left because I saw our leader diablerize the Lasombra antediluvian instead of destroying him, and I disagreed with that. You don't actually hate the Antediluvians. Or what they represent. You don't really care how likely or valid the prophecy of Gehenna is. Because even if it's fake, the Antediluvians are so much stronger than you that it scares you. Even the Methuselah are like gods to the children that make up the overwhelming majority of vamps. You could find an Antediluvian that was the kindest, most pure of all vampires, but because they are so old and their blood is so potent, most vamps would want them dead because their very existence is an existential threat to you. And even if one could be perfectly sure of this ancient's tranquility, most would still want it slain for the second reason. Your first few nights you think you're king of the world, all powerful. Then you realize that there are older, more powerful vampires. And so most of us take the easy way out and blame age, or generation, or whatever the fuck rather than contend with the ugly truth that really we're the same flawed, shitty people we were in life, just with a few extra powers and a few extra weaknesses. A group of shovelheads went in an abandoned factory and when I was sent to check on them when nothing happened all were dead in various positions. One looked to have been beaten to death by something big, another had his head ripped off, two more were impaled upon massive icicles and the final one was encased in ice but when touched shattered like glass. Shotguns are far too close range for Werewolves in my opinion. If I have to shoot one, I would prefer to do it from 100 meters away at least. Buckshot loses its effectiveness quite rapidly past 40 yards. High caliber rifle is my weapon of choice, nothing short of .308. Regarding the effectiveness of buckshot, the reason I recommend Shot over Bullet is because you can customize the load in your shells. If you remember, I also emphatically recommend testing those experimental shells—one reason being to determine their effective range. In a proper 12 gauge shotgun, custom shells can be savage like nothing you've seen before.

Now speaking of range, if you look up statistics for gunfights in urban environments, reports from the NYPD, LAPD, and other civilian sources show that the vast majority of encounters happen at close range—typically less than 30 yards.
While there aren’t any statistics for Werewolf-on-Kindred violence, experience tells me that shapeshifting creatures like Werewolves almost always close the distance to strike with their claws. Many of them can even leap out of literal thin air to attack, so range is usually a fleeting luxury in those scenarios.

As for a .45, I am assuming you mean .45 ACP here, being the most common .45 handgun round in the US—If you meant .45LC, however, I would like to apologize and acknowledge that those are a very different story.

While I admire John Moses Browning as much as anyone that knows their Guns, a subsonic cartridge with such a low penetrative power like the .45 ACP might not be the best choice against a Werewolf. Sure, it’s a heavy bullet, but its famed “stopping power” won’t do much to stop a nearly three-meter-tall furry killing machine.

I personally carry an ancestral nickel plated 1911 that carried my great x2 grandfather through WW1, my great grandfather through Normandy in WW2, my grandfather through the jungles of Vietnam, and my uncle in the GWOT. I can appreciate your position. Firstly I would preface that any long gun, shotgun or rifle is not going to be a good choice for on the spot werewolf defense simply on the grounds of accessibility. If it is your night to night carry, you probably won't be lugging around a longer gun on grounds of attracting attention and general unwieldiness. Which limits us to pistols, which in my opinion are not worth the silver unless you have the money to spend and want every possible layer of defense against a sudden lupine. I find those large hunting revolvers generally ludicrous but they may have a fringe use against lupines. At that point you need to rely on your disciplines to escape or turn the tables.

If you know that there are werewolves after you to the point of preparing special shotgun shells however, long guns come back into the equation. And in this case I think distance is an important factor. Hunting the beasts and self defense become one in the same if you survive the initial encounter. If you remain static, you are easy prey for such creatures. This may sound trite, but the weapon most effective against a lupine, or anything depends on the circumstances of the engagement. I prefer to dictate the circumstances of the engagement, and if a werewolf closes the distance on me, I have the right discipline to send it scampering back to a distance. I actually used this method to defend myself against a lupine attacker. So many Kindred think in terms of disciplines or weapons, but when one uses the mundane and the supernatural in concert, that is the path to true power.

Can we agree that if Chelys is the unlucky one who is about to suffer a Lupine attack, that he probably should invest in more than a few silver bullets in his nightly carry?

I do love the 1911 for its historical value and as a very functional weapon for self-defence against most individuals Mortal-sized, but I wouldn't use a normal one against a Werewolf—bailing the fuck out might be a better strategy there, if it's your only means of self-defence. Personally, however, if we're sticking to JMB's brainchildren, I'd prefer the Browing Hi Power over the 1911 specifically because of the higher capacity and improved penetrative power of the 9mm cartridge. But that's a matter of taste and what you’re expecting to deal with, as LBB said.
And, of course, I am talking about your regular, run-of-the-mill 1911s, not a Special Piece like yours.

It's a new year, and the revelation of what went on with Red Regent was a delight to discover while catching up a bit on the happenings here.

This new year was not entirely joyous, though. I encountered a lasombra ripping a kine's head off while feeding this new year's eve, and while I was able to subdue him, the interrogation by my coterie has revealed that he was scoping out the town for the rest of his pack. Assuming they come looking for him, this promises to be an eventful January.

In somewhat related news, the screams of a Lasombra burning in the sunlight are significantly more tortured and fearful than those of other sabbat.

The phrase was gonna be "skepticism *works best* when bla bla bla" but I ran out of space in the first message, and sacrifices had to be made.

We've had a similar experience with Tornadoes.

My childhood hometown was half leveled by a tornado, so after rebuilding the city planted trees everywhere.

One year a tornado touches down heads for us. It hits a single story warehouse that used to be the icehouse before ice became a DIY project. It was low enough and steep enough that the tornado rode the roof up, got launched into the sky, and because of all the trees, couldn't touch down again.

Oh yeah, you could see the old icehouse from the front porch of our home.

So ths tornado goes right over our neighborhood. They really do sound like trains, btw. I was terrified thinking the house was going to be smashed and bury me and my family and crush us all I threw up.

I still remember when they called the all clear over the radio. The whole neighborhood came slowly out their front doors, looking around, expecting devastation. But no. A strip of our neighbors siding was in our yard, but that was it. The night was so bright, so clear, so...clean. I can't really describe it.

But the next time the sirens blew, I was on the front porch with my dad anf grandpa while mom and grandma were down in thr basement. Grandpa gave me swig of his beer.

Frankly, I don't think I'll ever go back there. If his ghost is hanging around I don't want him to see me like this.
