Are you certain the culprit was Kindred? Reviewing your statement, it wiped out a group of shovelheads, yes? While the most common killer of Kindred is another Kindred, we can't rule it out. The Sabbat's unsubtle and aggressive way of unlife causes them to run afoul of other supernaturals more often than other Kindred who try to keep a low profile. On more than one occasion I have had to deal with someone or something "in the know" that had a very low opinion of vampires for this reason.

Practically, it could be a mortal capable of magic. This is unlikely (but not impossible) due to the one who had his head ripped off. Or a Lupine, I understand their powers vary more wildly than ours. Or it was a thaumaturge. Apparently, Tzimisce blood mages are more common than I thought, so it being America rules nothing out... but the victims and location does not suggest Tzimisce. If you can't get anything further from the scene of the crime, look elsewhere. Keep your ear to the ground, someone might know what those Sabbat were up to that fateful evening.

You also saw someone watching you? You could also see if anyone matching his description, however vague, is a known figure.

What is something about your clan curse that has shaped your perception of unlife? For example, as a Ventrue, much of the discussion about blood does not register for me. I can only feed from a certain subset of people. Everything else tastes so abhorrent that I can't stomach any other blood. Even the smell of it is mildly repellent. I can taste and then spit out a drop of swill blood and discern oh so much about the one to whom it belonged, but it is akin to a tracker tasting dirt. On the other hand, digestible blood is so heavenly that I do not understand those who long for mortal foods. I tried my favorite meal on the one year anniversary of my embrace. It tasted like cardboard. Whenever there is a conversation about blood, I have little to add, and what I could add I dare not say for fear of giving away my specific tastes.

So I wonder how the curses of the other clans color their perception of unlife.

Lots of drinking from intoxicated people led to one of the Elders I have been mentoring starting the new year with an accidentally broken nose. Since he didn't lash out on anybody, it seems the mentoring has been proving fruitful, which is always nice. This is what we set out to do here—have a good time, make some mistakes of the non-violent kind, mingle with Mortals, and get more intimate with our Humanity.
Local Camarilla, however, overplayed a disease outbreak in the Mortal population and tried to pin it on a Gangrel neonate that's part of my current travelling party, a clear attempt at extortion—every year there's an outbreak like that around this time of the year. Not exactly what I expected, but I assumed there would be some sort of nonsense from the locals when the pisspants decided to present himself to the Prince and whatnot.
I have neither the patience nor the inclination to deal with a frankly incompetent Prince or his incompetent Primigen, and since we already got what we wanted here—to spend the end of the year feeding off the intoxicated tourists, for the most part—we might just lift up camp in the next few days, and save us the trouble.
They only know of the Neonate, and I'd like to keep things this way.

My hair turns green whenever I travel into more temperate climates. Polar bears have hollow fur, to better retain heat. Because of this, algae can sneak inside and propagate if they aren't in freezing cold climates. I have to wear full face and head covers after a frenzy, because people don't have big black noses and their ears aren't supposed to be so big, round, and fuzzy. For me it's mostly a problem with tremere. They want to see everything clearly, so there's a tendancy for a chantry to be lit up like a desert at noon. Ghouls and neonates too, fumble around in even mild darkness without auspex. On the other hands, it's done wonders for my familiarity with the lasombra. Even more than other serpents, I am comfortable in a pitch blackness which few besides the keepers find amenable.

I do wonder sometimes how much the dull psychological ache of brightly lit rooms has influenced my view of the camarilla, but then I find roses prefer more appropriate mood lighting anyway. I hardly think it's the cause of my concerns with the self-titled lords.

See, they have nobody to blame for this but their own hides. You can just treat a ghoul differently, and they won't be submissive and dependant. The tzimisce and tremere certainly haven't had any issues with their childe being lacking in ambition and or aggression.

She's a sore winner, basically. Not only is she the worst strain of gnostic / death-cult-buddhist, because she believes in essentially outside intervention (even if it is something that is going to be brought about through private actions inside the world) she doesn't have any real degree of personal enlightenment and hasn't made peace with the world or her desires at all. And boy oh boy, does she have some desires: she's been hooked on the most addictive substance known to man (Vitae) since she was ~14 and didn't take long after her embrace to switch to something a lot harder. Add on that she expects to have to wait and suffer ~424874* years of holding back the beast with sheer gnostic disdain for reality and you can get the picture. In her mind, she has already won, but she resents that she still has to play out the game.

From what I heard, it looks to have been a combination of mental disciplines and barbed chain inscribed with wards against Lupines driven into its body. These Anarchs did not have any Tremere in their coterie, so I suspect they enlisted the services of a local Tremere for the wards. In this city, there is one young Tremere in particular who is known to offer his services to anyone willing to pay. I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved.

The Ma'at of our city seems to giving way to Isfet. A tanker truck was found overturned and ripped to pieces on the highway just outside the city limits. The tank was filled with water instead of fuel and there were unknown vampires inside. Probably Sabbat from one of the many nearby strongholds. I have my suspicions on what sent them to Final Death, of course. More and more unknown Kindred seem to be turning up recently.

On a positive note, the fundraiser event was quite the success. Marcus was quite pleased with the dress I chose.

I noticed something strange on the way back to my residence. The historic lighthouse was emitting a strange... light isn't the right word. It was more like... anti-light? I'll need to look into this.

Well, the lupine prophecy held some water. Opening night is in a few days. Jimothy and Ted (the local gangrel) were patrolling the properties perimeter in the evening while I was putting the finishing touches on some brews and wines., and starting some protection rituals around the building. Next thing I know Jimothy is screaming and firing his 45-70 and Ted is howling in pain. They both make a retreat to the main house, I imagine his celerity came in handy there. When they get in, Jimothy is paler than us kindred, and Ted is missing an arm. I reach out with the way of spirit and see a life with an aura I’ve never seen before. Different than kine, but FAR more vibrant. And it just disappears. It pops back in about a kilometer from the main house, and I grab it with the soil there and smite it once as if it had insulted some forgotten storm god. But it’s gone again. There’s singed fur on the dirt but its presence is gone. I’ve never seen kindred be afraid or crying in Ted’s case, as his arm isn’t healing for some reason. My tutor and sire have put a ward around our house that shifts lupines into a more vulnerable form. I’ve got my ancestral 1911 with custom silver amalgam exploding rounds going faster than most pistol cartridges at 1900fps. This is my land. Esta es mi Tierra. Das is mein Land. nū sokanaakutū. This lupine will pay for his transgressions. My people have been here far longer than his in all likelihood.

In terms of remote viewing, there are many possibilities in theory, though all of which far more conspicuous than one would imagine. I've pondered such escapes before, many times over, but even rudimentary usage of Auspex is capable of detecting my psychic presence, whether I project my consciousness or simply glimpse across the world. Cainite is a word with a loaded meaning. If your sire uses it, and indeed insists upon the term, there are two likely explanations. Autarkis is a term for a vampire with no formal allegiance to anyone but themselves. Most are elders, simply because only elders can reliably get away with relying entirely on themselves. Your sire may or may not be an autarkis.

I don't think you're quite aware, but that's not how it works for Ravnos, the beast is absolutely more than an animal for me. You may be correct that the rapid propagation of our kind is inevitable. If it is truly a situation akin to King Canute and the Tide, then executing the childer is a wasted gesture. If our population invariably swells with the population of the mortals, then I fear we are approaching another crisis akin to that of the late medieval, as global birth rates are beginning to fall. Too many vampires, not enough mortals. It is worrisome. But executing the childer, especially when the sire has escaped into the night accomplishes nothing but make the powers that be look cruel and arbitrary to the other young vampires. A spared fledgling will be loyal, and far less likely to make the same mistake as their sire. Furthermore, they could be used to find the sire, so that the true criminal gets punished. It is only when we make an example out of those who sire wantonly that we can curb the practice.

What I can say without spoiling the mystery is that it's not impossible to figure out which Clan Embraced him—you can tell he's not a Nosferatu for example because their Clan Weakness is very visible, for example. I've already left a couple of hints about it on previous messages here—the very ambiguity mentioned above in regards to this aspect of his unlife is a hint, for example.
If someone ever gets it right and explains how they reached that conclusion in a satisfying manner, I'll confirm it—its not just there to be a tease, its there to be eventually uncovered and there are more mysteries on his backstory after that one—but the conclusion can't be reached by cheesing it, like 'he didn't confirm he's X or Y or Z therefore must be Baali by exclusion' type of stuff otherwise I'll just keep quiet :P its not there to be Guessed, it's there to be Uncovered.

Of course, each prince has a different policy on the matter. You should probably make some discreet inquiries with the local Kindred before you commit.

Phrenopheler’s advice is… poetic, but to me, it reads more like a trap than anything else. Demanding a new pack in the Sabbat risks accusations of disloyalty to the vaulderie. Loyalty to the pack is sacred, and turning on them—no matter how reckless their decisions—is a fast track to being cornered. Doesn’t might make right? Perhaps, but odds are you’ll be forced to prove it by fighting your packmates to the death. Outnumbered like that, the odds aren’t exactly in your favour.

As for defecting to the Camarilla, I must echo the wisdom of our French friend: walking into the Tower uninvited is suicide. The Camarilla runs on a strict sire-vouching system. Without a Lasombra Antitribu to sponsor you, you’ll be seen as a rat, not a potential ally. They’ll extract whatever information they can and then Destroy you without hesitation—perhaps even parading you in Elysium as a trophy before doing so.

If you truly want out, you’ll need patience and cunning. Play along with your current pack until you either take control and start calling the shots, or find someone in the Camarilla willing to vouch for you—someone with influence in the Tower and a reason to see you survive. Until then, keep your head down and avoid confrontation. Both the Sword and the Tower are swift to destroy those they perceive as weak or disloyal.

Defecting to the Camarilla is a risk, but one that could pay great dividends in life expectancy if you pull it off. How good of a liar are you? Pits and traps are a solid start, but they’re only part of the equation.

First and foremost, remove any reflective surfaces from the property. Mirrors, puddles, polished metal—anything they can use to slip away into the world beyond again. It won’t stop an invasion, but it’ll make it harder for them to vanish into thin air like last time. Cheap, quick, and essential.

If you’ve got the time and budget, hit up a tech or hardware store. Grab microphones, motion-sensor cameras, wiring, and backup generators to keep it all running if the power gets cut. A few scout drones wouldn’t hurt either. Set up a surveillance circuit covering the perimeter and key spots inside your property. If something breaches, you’ll know where.

Build your kill box where you can maximize tactical advantage and have a fallback route ready. Be prepared to demolish parts of your infrastructure to trap invaders or deny them the use of fortified positions. Don’t think of it as a frontal assault—this will feel more like a paratrooper drop. Except these paratroopers are invisible until they land, and they can’t be shot down mid-air. So be ready to be mobile, and to part ways with positions.

If you know any warding spells, spirit-hindering tricks, or ways to summon spirits to fight or spy for you, now’s the time to use them. If not, find someone who does. Call in favours or take on a little debt if need be—it’s better than ending up as ashes in the wind.

Speaking of favours, consider having a secondary strike team staged nearby, just outside your property. They can break a potential siege and rescue you from Incoming Sunlight through a sally, or counter-ambush the attackers and push them into your killbox once the mutts show up, depending on how the fight is going.

Mixed news regarding the investigation to find the Sabbat pack. The mortal minions found evidence of some kindred taking refuge downtown, and there shouldn't be any vampires but us around, so my clanmate and I followed up as soon as the sun went down with a couple ghouls. Seems the pack has been getting busy making shovelheads to pad their numbers before taking over. Three Brujah antitribu and two Lasombra fledgelings, which made dealing with them annoying, caused a lot of damage to the interior of the building, and the ghoul that didn't die is going to have to retire as a combatant, but we dealt with them. No way to cover up the whole thing besides burning the building down with the bodies inside it though.

So got a call from my boss, I was gonna tell him about the cold-corpse thing but he asked me to come to the nearby woods as something got caught in one of our traps. I simply cannot agree. A majority of that which makes diablerie a deplorable, heinous act is not what you're doing to another person, it's what you're doing to yourself. LadyBlue, if you are still here, you requested that I update you on any progress with my experiments. I have some to report:
1st: it was a success, it seems to be stable and ready for release, will keep contained for a bit to monitor and make sure there's no side effects.
2nd: Needs some tweaking, namely in it's abilities and binding. The animalistic component is a bit more overpowering then intended so will need to either find a work around or reduce the amount of the component in the subject, though reduction will be a problem given the parameters set at the start.
Another note not related to my experiments: I found that a little kindred was watching the field tests, he seemed scared of me, I meant him no harm as no harm was done to me or my testing. Also it seems that Stripper has fully joined the Sabbat, while it's a shame that she blindly went in, hopefully she doesn't lose herself to it's dogma. I've decided to do away with the 'Tarvos' addition as it's no longer necessary.
What have I missed? Is Shark still alive?

Killing to protect the Masquerade happens, usually by those who lack the proficiency in dominate to protect it in a more elegant way. However, the use of dominate to erase or rewrite memories is always preferable to killing if available. Many missing persons cases remain unsolved yes, as it should only be considered a murder case if someone screwed up, but killing a mortal who witnessed something they should not does create the tiniest chance that someone looks in to it. A cop that can't let it go, a grieving family member or worse, an experienced hunter who knows what to look for in a vampire cover-up. If one can whisk away those dangerous thoughts, it adds one less point of failure to the Masquerade. It's just practical. Disbelief is our armor, and you never know which dead body or missing person will capture the public's attention.

Mayhaps this young priest simply sees a way to impart a good impression on the neutral ground I’m making. Hell, she already had an interest in being here permanently as entertainment before she was appointed and given a leadership role. I’ve made it clear several times that my sire has instilled in me a deep sense of superiority to this whole sect thing. He fondly remembers his time as a childer when each kindred was a law unto his own. Things were simpler then. I understand we can’t rule openly as such now. Personally, I've been working on a Storytime for what happened to Null's end-year travels that I mentioned earlier. Its scope spiralled completely out of control and its getting complex to the point that I think it might be worth making an STV pre-made story out of it. Its nothing fancy in the grand scheme of things but for what was just a throwaway story to drive conversation, it's getting Long. Very Long. Which is not great considering that nobody asked anything about that particular story either, as far as I recall.
I do intend to keep on playing Null for a while, though. I made up a whole multi-layered mystery for his backstory, until I get some mileage out of that, Imma keeping mah namelessboi

You said previously that you studied in India, no? I spent a brief amount of time there near the end of the 19th century. While the mission I was a part of was ultimately unsuccessful, the discussions I had with some of the Daitya led me to some remarkable insights.
