I built and painted a 2k Empire and 2k Tomb Kings list from like Jan 15 - the end of February. Got halfway through painting a Greyjoy ASOIAF army before realizing I didn't need to during that time as well. Took a break for a while after. After that I tried out nmm on a few WoC minis. Made an Empire general on griffon out of the High Elf one, and painted it up for a small online painting competition, but I was really burnt out and didn't really do anything this summer. I converted a few pegasus characters this fall and started working on a Chorf army (goal is all minis have to be conversions or feature heavy greenstuff work). Also got 24 greatswords base coated.
>>
Sorry, question about Warhammer RPG, again.
Skills are flat out upgrades to your stats, right? Why not just upgrades your stats then?
>inb4 but they're cheaper
I don't think it's good enough of a trade-off.
>>
>>94696546
Probably because you want to advance through your career. And yes, they are cheaper. It takes a lot longer to get the EXP to increase your attribute than it takes for you to increase the skill that uses that attribute, meaning you can get a lot more out of the same amount of EXP, when it comes being able to perform that specific tasks.
Yes, attributes increase other skills as well. But see it this way: What does increasing your Weapon Skill by + 5 add if you could increase your Standard Weapon Skill by + 10 instead, when your character will always just use a hand weapon + shield? Your additional increase for polearms doesn't do shit when you aren't using any polearms at all.
>>
>tq
A whole lot. I repainted almost the entirety of my army and then kept painting more regiments and characters, and I played a ton of games too. After three years, I'm so close to having 2000 points of Chaos, even without taking into account my daemon models. One more regiment of warriors, marked by Nurgle this time, and I'll be there. It's been too much fun and I have no intention of stopping, but going from 2000 to 3000 points next year will be difficult. I'm a bit tired of painting warriors and I've already got all the cool metal sorcerers I wanted, so I really don't know what else to collect. Maybe I'll get some marauders, or some more knights. Definitely not a dragon, that's for sure. I absolutely cannot keep collecting old metal character models. I already have too many of them painted and I can only ever use four of them at a time. Regiments! Regiments will be the theme for 2025.
You'll have to forgive the incomplete picture - I still haven't decided on a design for the banner my tzeentch warriors will be carrying. I'm looking forward to next year! Hopefully I'll get to play a lot more games, too.

Why doesn't Karl Franz carry a firearm?

He's got no Grail Knight super strength like Louen, and he isn't a powerful magic user either. It seems odd that he wouldn't bring a gun with him. Heck, I'm sure the Imperial Engineers would be honored to make Karl Franz a repeater handgun or something
>>
>>94697411
Honestly? Youre right,. Basically every empire general, special character and even the knights should have pistols as sidearms.

The empire doesent view firearms as cowardly and is in fact proud of its guns. The empire is full of regular dudes who arent very good at fighting, and the empire is full of guns and pistols.

Why? He could still shoot if the dragon does a breath attack.

>>94697441
Battle magic isnt very good for WoC

Spawn are really fucking slow. And fairly fat. You might have issues using them since you have a fairly wide army thats also going to be faster than them.
I would also give the shaggoth either a ward save or the blackened plate. Swap the hand weapon for a great weapon.

Otherwise the list looks good, nice to see someone kit their chaos lord out properly.

I would say "take a puppet" but its so good that taking it is probably a conscious choice on your end.

Yes, its why theyre generally not primary weapons. But the point of a sidearm isnt to be good on their own, its to be a weapon of last resort/situational viability.

I bought a box of chaos warriors today and spent the evening assembling them. Never bought the kit when I was a kid, but I felt a pleasant nostalgia while I was building the chaos warriors and ranking them up. The smell of plastic glue also enhanced the atmosphere.

Chaos Warriors are such a fun kit to assemble. Extremely easy to magnetize as well, in case you want to pimp them out in the future with new bits.

>>94698277
If you're bringing reality the big flat head of Sigma's hammer is extremely inefficient. Real war hammers had small heads to concentrate the forcs
>>
>>94698254

Yeah, I assembled them with dual hand weapons, which is apparently not the best gear for a unit that is already sub-optimal.
>>
>>94698366
Make them Khorne and you get 3 attacks a dude, which is good for clearing chaff
>>
>>94698366
Rules are temporary, minis are not. What is shit now in terms of performance is barely one errata away from being overpowered and broken.
Still, if you care about WYSIWYG I strongly recommend magnetizing your Warriors. They take 2mm magnets with no issues and it takes like 2-3 minutes to magnetize a Warrior and the weapon options. Warriors' shield are also great to paint and they are perfect for having fun with decals.
>>
>>94698310
Its really more of a maul.

Although the simple "get out of jail free" trick with ghal maraz is that its enchanted, so whatever physical form it might have is largely irrelevant compared to its magical capabilities/can easily be justified by them.

The larger surface? It actually needs that because the magical d3 wounds effect is transmitted that way.
>>
>>94698366
>which is apparently not the best gear for a unit that is already sub-optimal.
Correct, but at the same time its also one FaQ away from insanity (ensorcelled weapons now apply to all weapons, rather than just hand weapons).

Dont worry about building for the here and now, focus on the collection you want, the minis will outlast their rules by a whole lot.

The 2004 kit really is nice to assemble. Some people like to say it's bad because of how it's designed, but I like it a lot too. Also, regarding your later post, don't underestimate chaos warriors with additional hand weapons! They may not be very good right now, but they're still useful to have in your collection. Anon, that sounds like something the demon would very much enjoy.

Demons of slaanesh like the extremes, the excesses, a brilliant engineer making a work of art is still up their alley. At best you could get a thoroughly mediocre engineer to do something "okay" but even then its not exactly going to do much beyond maybe bore the demon. And betting on the boredom of an immortal ageless thing is a bad call.

Isn't the chaos warshrine significantly larger than the gigantic chaos spawn? You might be better off using the warshrine for 8th ed and sculpting up your own big ass chaos spawn. It'd be a great way to practice sculpting techniques.

You know I do not mind these crusty models at all. I genuinely love their camp and the spirit of the time.
But if they use them for current year promo, they could at the very least have either:
A, Freshly Painted up these old Models in line with their new models.
B, Taken proper high quality photographs of existing models from some 20 year old display.

Hi guys! After a couple of years of hiatus I decided to get back into plastic crack.
My local store has got a very big scene for TOW (possibly surpassing 40k, or so I've heard), Since I've always wanted to play WHFB, but could only play a game a year, or something like that, I've decided that it's time to finally get a proppa WAAAGH going. I'm not super familiar with the rules, but I'm pretty sure ai have a decent idea of the basics. I made this list, what do you think of It?

++ Characters [577 pts] ++
Orc Warboss [300 pts]
(Hand weapon, Heavy armour, Shield, General, Boar Chariot, Ogre Blade, Talisman of Protection)

Night Goblin Oddnob [175 pts]
(Hand weapon, Level 4 Wizard, On foot, Arcane Familiar, Waaagh! Magic)

Black Orc Bigboss [102 pts]
(Hand weapon, Full plate armour, Shield, Battle Standard Bearer, On foot)

5 Goblin Spider Rider Mob [65 pts]

5 Goblin Spider Rider Mob [65 pts]
(Hand weapons, Shields, Shortbows)

++ Special Units [438 pts] ++
8 Orc Boar Boy Mob [164 pts]

>>
>>94702543
Looks like a breddy diverse list, not WAAC competitive but nice spread of tools to work with.
>>
Is TOW scaling down to 1000pts well or is it yet another case of GW designing a game that sucks in terms of balance?
>>
>>94702543
I'd replace the Night Goblin's spears with shortbows and give the standard bearer Da Spider Banner
>>
>>94702610
the main thing to look out for would be that the most waacfagging players might spend half his points on one of the unkillable monsters, often leaving the opponent without a real tool to deal with it at those points

avoid that, perhaps on a gentlemanly agreement of not giving ridden monsters magical items or stopping the hero cap at 33%, and you should be mostly good

I'm not really interested in extremely competitive stuff. I'm fine with taking less effective units or loadouts if I like them.
Out of curiosity: what's the most cheesy, sweaty neckbeard-tier stuff that the O&G can muster? I've heard that savage big uns are very strong.

>>94702619
They look very strong, but I don't have many bow-armed gobbos, and I prefer the spears from a looks standpoint.
>>
>>94702678
>what's the most cheesy, sweaty neckbeard-tier stuff that the O&G can muster?

90 night goblin archers with poison banner
>>
>>94702610
I mean, the game in general sucks at balance because like all GW games it attracts a certain breed of WAACfaggotry.

The only good games of TOW to be had are between friends fielding lore accurate forces with over 50% of points spent on core, preferably over 75%.

>>
>>94703297
You only need the one hand for a pistol.
You also seem to have missed the point of a sidearm, which is "in case you dont have access to your primary weapon"
On which note KF should also carry a dagger or maybe a side sword.
The point of a pistol or dagger or whatever isnt "to be a core part of the arsenal" or to be something you use instead of your main weapon, but to have niche usability/minor value in various circumstances while having a low opportunity cost for possessing.

Pistols are small, light, and not very expensive, bringing one (or even two) with you "just in case" is entirely reasonable and something that basically every noble in the empire really ought to be doing, just add a holster to your saddle or whatever. It might do nothing, it might just kill "a dude" or it might save your life in a pinch, you lose nothing for having the option either way.

Its a shame that despite a fairly solid initial roster every subsequent release for cathay in TWW has been absolute dogshit.

You went from this neat chinese empire analogue, with a strong focus on combined arms and armor with solidly grounded units to deal with their relative lack of elite offensive units, to just a monster mash of constructs and a fucking stone gundam. Sad.

Kislevs in the opposite boat. The initial release was overloaded with the "fantastical stuff" (the biggest offender being little grom, which has no purpose being pulled by bears). But the subsequent stuff has mostly been fine thematically, you got some grounded infantry, some cool innawoods monsters and a baba yaga surrogate. And their version of kurt helborg.

If only it were that easy. You'd have to rip the models, then pose them, then figure out which details are modeled into the polygons and which are just texture mats. Then decide which to exaggerate for the sake of being visible at table-distance in miniature without choking up the model with excessive detail like so many fan-made sculpts.

I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just a lot more work than just Rip-->Print

>>94703358
Sadly true. The only thing that makes TWW3 tolerable now is a mod that adds tabletop-like caps to elite and rare units, forcing diversified rosters and preventing one-unit-type doomstacks.

They were basically "human dwarfs", your mobile elements were weak and generally low damage, but you had a lot of cheap armor and durability, and some very powerful ranged options coupled with some very cool lords. They had enough unique stuff doing on in their dynamics while also easily translating to the game and giving the faction a distinct flavor.

Warhammer is Herohammer.
There was a mod called "Realism" Mod (that sadly hasn't been updated in 7 months, so it doesn't work with latest build of the game) that added unit formations, buffed guns while making them take much longer to reload, and gave heroes retinues.
The issue was, some hero retinues were pretty broken. Like Karl when he levels up gets a unit of 6 dudes on Gryphons riding with him.
Or Oxyotl gets a whole unit of chameleon skinks with almost his level of damage from each one.

Seriously though, what's GW's deal with the hobgoblin Gits (or perhaps more specifically, the intern responsible for composing the Legacy rules)?
Iirc, GW only used to have only 3 unique Sneaky Gits selling, back in 4th (6 points per unit, with no minimum requirements, last I'd checked). But now you have to run them with at least 10 models.
And wtf are you supposed to get for them; buy 4 sets of nasty skulkers? buy the BB team, and get the remaining hobgoblins elsewhere?

Painting banners is fun, anon. You can practice on scrap paper as much as you want before actually making your banner. You'll find that a lot of the skills you've learned from painting minis will apply to painting on a flat surface. It's still all about base coating and highlighting and shading, you just have to make all the derails yourself. You can do it, anon, I have faith in you.
>>
>>94703013
Model of the year almost always goes to "the big model."
Never to one that was stylistically the best or which was the best to put together. Almost always "that was biggest, so that was best." If GW made a plastic Reaver titan, and it was the most unadulterated dog shit to build, it would still get model of the year for being big.
Also resin models have never got close to winning until this year (and that's only because they split the categories and the 2 biggest specialist games use a lot of resin kit). If you look at previous model of the year winners and then compare them to Forge World releases of the same year, you realise how fucking monkey brained the community is when it comes to voting for Model of the year.
That said I actually like the look of the Necrolith Dragon model, but I don't know what it's like to build. But I personally think the the Bretonnian lord on Pegasus or Élisse Duchaard should have won

I would say that I would like chaos warriors to get a small change, but seeing as I already run several units of them in my army I wouldn't be following the second half of your instructions.
Instead, I'll say that I would like the mark of tzeentch to be changed. There's a reason people are putting the mark of tzeentch on their level 4 sorcerer and then not taking it on anything else. Witout putting a sorcerer in a unit, the mark is useless. The only semi-viable way to run a tzeentch army is to make a deathstar of cheap marked infantry, as many sorcerers as you can fit in your list and the skull of katam. And even then, it's not even good.

No anon is right, thats ("free from the mortal coil!") literally a bit the dark elves pulled at the start of the malus darkblade books.

To "celebrate a good haul" they had the slaves vote on one of them which would be set free (they ended up voting for some pretty young girl), the girl however ended up begging them to let her beloved go instead. Which they agreed to.
They then revealed that they proceeded to rape the girl until she was begging them to let her go instead of her beloved, then they flayed her. The guy was let go, technically, but in reality this meant "shoved off a boat into a sea full of weird evil mermaids" so he died too. Was given the girls face as a memento.

The point of sport is to play by the rules in some capacity, otherwise theres no meaning to it. So if youre going to fuck with someone by promising them freedom, the goal is to make that freedom a catch in some way, or to make the price of it not worth it. Wasting a slave is worth not being a killjoy/bad sport.
>>

>>
>>94706777
See, I think this is a kneejerk response. Because a lot of that dialogue is purposefully suggestive.

"after my men were spent"
"take their turns"
"she entertained them/I gave her to them"
"she was a gift fit for a prince"

It could just be torture, but the dialogue is very obviously (and purposefully) reminiscent of how someone might talk about sex, because ultimately thats whats being discussed beneath the veneer of the fantasy evil, a bunch of sadistic pirates raped some poor woman because they were bored and could do it.

Dark elves are not dark eldar, theyre not weird and alien with their perversions, theres regular old brothels (full of human slaves) in this series, the dark elves have regular old sex and shit.

>blood cult: the culture
Except its not, especially not in those books.
Dark elves are not dark eldar, where you can say "well they probably dont fuck the slaves because the point is to do hellraiser torture on them because theyre alien soul vampires".
Dark elves are very "normal" evil, and they have very normal sex, both with each other and (as the presence of human slaves in various brothels suggests) with human slaves.

So yes, "someone" is very much equivalent to "some dark elf pirate", because the elves are not some ultimately alien race, detached from human emotions and drives, theyre very much "people but they live for longer and are better at things"

>the dialogue has been purposefully selected to be suggestive
Anything is suggestive after years of /d/ content consumption. Why, that cloud over there looks just like an obese dickgirl, and the piss stain on the pub wall means watersports! Anyone who disagrees is a trolling puritan! You're the one desperately clinging to your ryona/snuff porn fantasy instead of flapping BEFORE you post.
>>
>>94707025
Actually, on that "blood cult" point: actual, genuine devotion to a faith is considered so alien and strange to Malus (the guy in charge in that story) that he selects someone who iirc betrayed him to take a position of power over a genuine zealot on his side, because at least with that person he understands the way they think and considers them "normal".
>>
>>94707036

Uh huh.>>94706971
>>
>>94707082
NTA, but if there wasn't a sexual element to the text why would Malus emphasize the girl's beauty so much?
>>
>>94707160
>taking things out of context
I am very much not. The context is literally "some asshole is leaning into your ear and telling you how your GF let him do anything with her"

So go on, answer, show us there's no innuendo there.
>>
>>94707157
To fuck with the guy he's about to throw overboard and make him suffer more. Again, it's really very simple, delfs are sadist torturers, there's no deeper meaning than that.
>>
>>94707178
And how does rule out rape?
>>
>>94707157
Because he's an asshole and I'm glad he died horribly.
>>
>>94707157
hes just upset by the suggestion of rape, I suspect its an "honor" thing, he wants to protect the dignity of the fictional bretonnian girl from those mean dark elves
>>
>>94707166
And I reiterate, you are making false equivalences. A dark elf aristocrat is not just 'some asshole'. Sex is just about the most wholesome and innocent thing covered by that 'everything' when they are concerned, as well as anything else not involving hooks, knives and other sharp implements.
>>
>>94707185
They have that weird variant of sadism that carries absolutely no sexual element to it you see. Theyre brilliant at compartmentalization, they keep their otherwise decadent life of hedonism and excess and their violent life of tormenting the humans completely detached. .
>>
>>94707185
The burden of proof lies with you. You are making a positive statement that it is in the text, so you have to conclusively prove it. Which you can't, which is why you have to default to shit like 'ACK-CHYUAHLEE, he meant sex because... because... he just did, OKAY?!!'
>>
>>94707205
Good news then, the random lowborn pirates ALSO had a go.

Not to mention that Malus is an outcast failson, whos highborn status is essentially little more than a technicality
>>
>>94707225
>so you have to conclusively prove it
You dont understand innuendo, do you? Technically nothing in the lusty argonian maid is explicitly sexual.
>>
I love rape.
>>
>>94707278
You're as pathetic as that guy who insisted that Stoker was horny for Wilde. Your only 'argument' is conjecture, existing solely within your pornsick brain. That's 'trust me bro' level you're operating on.
>>94707273
The ones carrying the same hooks, wicked blades and collections of ears and fingers as their bosses?
>>
>>94707300
I'm sure N'Kari did not rape Aenerion's first wife
>>
>>94707306
Of course anon, only the truly lost could see anything inappropriate with:

"Certainly not, kind sir! I am here but to clean your chambers.

Is that all you have come here for, little one? My chambers?

I have no idea what it is you imply, master. I am but a poor Argonian maid.

So you are, my dumpling. And a good one at that. Such strong legs and shapely tail.

You embarrass me, sir!

Fear not. You are safe here with me.

I must finish my cleaning, sir. The mistress will have my head if I do not!

Cleaning, eh? I have something for you. Here, polish my spear.

But it is huge! It could take me all night!

Plenty of time, my sweet. Plenty of time."

Innuendo doesent exist, there is no suggestive dialogue.
>>
>>94707082
You need to stop. Your tantrum doesn't have anything to do with the thread and how upset it's made you isn't the website's problem.
>>
>>94707336
And that completely unrelated text has to have any bearing on our interpretation of this >>94706691 one because? The genres and tone of the works are far too different to draw any comparison.
>>
I got a necrosphinx. It comes with a tomb king so I have a tomb king too. Got no skeletons though.
>>
>>94707349
Every argument you made regarding "well theres no explicit mention of sex stop projecting" applies equally to both texts. Try again.
>>
>>94707350
>Got no skeletons though
there's one inside you anon
>>
>necrodragon got 1st place in the old world miniature ranking
i'm a massive TKfag and this still feels wrong
>>
Am I just getting very unlucky, or are chaos warriors with additional hand weapons way better than chaos warriors with halberds? I'm testing them against each other (alternating which unit gets the charge) and while I understand that isn't the most effective and generalizable testing environment, my additional hand weapon warriors are consistently annihilating my halberd warriors. Is this normal?
>>
>>94707376
TLAM is literal in universe smut, and yet its innuendo is barely less subtle than the one in the malus darkblade book. So go on, find a way to suggest "well, this one has clear innuendo while the other one is clearly just wholesome torture!"
>>
>>94707392
I don't get it, must the mini of the year be a new release or can you vote for absolutely anything? If it's the former, I can see how that happened, considering that the only alternatives would be fugly foot knights with pizza pan axes and some lords/paladins.
>>
>>94707396
Additional hand weapons are generally a better choice against similar numbers of infantry. Everything's working as intended.
>>
>>94707488
When I can get a game in next year, what should I be sending my 10 halberd warriors at? Monsters?
>>
>>94707495
Run some tests against different unit types (cav, armoured cav, monstrous inf, monsters) and decide what you feel most comfortable with.
>>
What do they do all day?

Also, if Fire is banned in Athel Loren, how do they cook food?
>>
>>94707600
Fire isn't banned, cutting down live trees for firewood is. They're only allowed to use deadwood that falls down on its own.
>>
>>94707620
Isn't deadwood usually all rotten and damp, basically impossible to burn if you can't dry it up over fire first (which requires wood)?
>>
>>94707675
No, it's only damp if it spent some time on the ground, usually in a wet spot like a creek bank. Usually you can find a good amount of nice dry sticks and branches if it hasn't been raining.
>source: camping and hiking experience
>>
>>94707709
But enough to (literally) fuel a civilization?
>>
>>94707716
Magical woods are a weird place with some dimensional fuckery going on. There's a lot of trees. Much more than have any business existing within the space occupied by Loren.
>>
>>94706863
Nothing moves men to action like getting cucked. It's literally the worst thing you can do to a man
>>
>>94707782
Idk, having needles driven under your nails is worse, from what I heard. Or being disfigured. You know, the list goes on, and on, and on.
>>
>>94707835
I mean someone could go full chimp and literally emasculate a man by ripping his dick off, but I was more going for "worst thing you could do to a man without straight-up killing/disabling him" which wouldn't make for much of a story. Cucking is humiliating and agonizing but not debilitating, allowing for the victim to seek retribution and kick off a story.
>>
>>94707916
That's still far from the worst. Murdering someone's family and friends and then somehow sending the sole survivor a message claiming responsibility (and possibly explaining why you did it) is closer to what I would call absolute worst without direct physical harm.

Around halfway(?) done with Lord (King?) Ajtes. Still need to decide on a title for him.

The brass and bone turned out pretty well imo. For once it feels like my shitty photography is making a model look worse rather than better.
>>
>>94707931
>implying "myehehe I killed your father" is worse than literally ripping someone's dick off and mauling them
Maybe if they raped and tortured everyone to death but again that just comes back to cucking

And a photo from the spraying booth, where stuff looks too bright.

For the axe im thinking a molten metal effect maybe? Either that or a more normal metal weapon with some blood splatter. Or maybe I could try make it out of obsidian with red runes?

Good call to whoever suggested a bone mask btw.
>>
On the topic of cuckoldry never forget Ariel cucked Orion with the man, the myth, the LEGEND Gaston de Galliard. And she made sure Orion knew it, too.

Im not sure I understand, but no, I just did it bone. I didnt try any other schemes.
I considered doing the skull on his belt with the same brass as the trim and painted it with the !warplock bronze I used, but I figured making it bone would add some nice visual "balancing" so I painted over that
>>
>>94707980
Kek, surprised I didn't make that connection. Yeah that's just about the worst thing you could do to someone

>>
>>94706691
This may be a retarded question but why ARE the Delves so edgy? Weren't they just regular elves who thought Malekith was the rightful ruler? Or was every single one part of that one murderrape cult and suppressing their urge to cut off a lesser race's face after subjecting them to varying tortures? Last I recall Mengil Manflayer was considered a crazy motherfucker and not your average Druchii. Compare:
>malekith is the true phoenix king
>no
>reee civil war
To:
>malekith is the true phoenix king, also we also love to torture and murder things so much we want a day where some bitches run around and kill whoever the fuck they want (we have been like this for centuries)
>the fuck, get out
>reee civil war
Feels more like 40k Deldar-lite flanderization instead of Khaine angst overdose.
>>
>>94708570
Morathi dabbling in dark magic and pleasure cults from the beginning, Khaine being their only deity since they're constantly fighting a succession war and Asuryan snubbed them, elves being racist as fuck ubermensch, and Naggaroth being an inhospitable shithole inhabited by nothing but evil monsters that can only be domesticated through extreme cruelty and malice = Nazi elves
>>
>>94708570
Centuries of war-related psychological trauma. Elven pride doesn't let them break and turn into alcoholic veteran bums, so they go the other way and become psychos that enjoy hurting people. It didn't even start because of the civil war, the original chaos invasion was the point where they became so fucked. That's why the helf part of Nagarythe is also full of edgy terrorist fanatics, edgy generational PTSD types, and other types like that.

Warhammer is dead. Any lore you read past 6th (maybe 7th) edition is written before being sanitised by GW. It is written with the aim of promoting the brand and protecting the IP. Long gone are the days when the writers had creative freedom and would world-build drawing on their own personal interests in history, mythology and the esoteric. Modern Warhammer worldbuilding is done by "Warhammer nerds", they use the Warhammer world as their source of inspiration, and, of course, must be polished by GW first to be in line with their marketing goals. It's painful to read modern Warcom articles about WHF ("TOW") lore; it's so painfully detached from the personal creativity that shaped Warhammer and made it the amazing setting that enchanted us all.

RIP
