I generally just walk away from the table if a rift resolves. It's not an impressive play but they always feel so good after it gets them the win
Can someone explain to me why Alela is so highly ranked? Is it her goad mechanic that makes her good in EDH? Or the fact that blue usually casts spells off-turn anyway and you can extract extra value from that?
>>94798276You just stand up and walk off, leaving your cards on the table? That's weird
>>94798223Outside of the suggestions you mention, you don't. But you can still find some ways to balance it out a bit. Used this recently to copy it and force the blue player to rebuild like everyone else.

>>94798312>good>one of the strongest mechanics in commanderVery funny
>>94798328Tegwyll is shit because you want your stuff to be dying. >>94798556anything that forces the game into a state where one player has clearly won but won't actually win for another 5 turns
>>94798393>attack the person who has a way outthe fuck? he would just cast cyclonic rift the second he feels like he's under pressure and bounce all three players boards.
>>94798556None of those? Do you even understand salt? Here are 4 better options:>a) Someone misplaying on purpose to kingmake someone else.>b) Resolving scrambleverse or theives auction more than once.>c) Some bumpkin playing a nondeterministic combo deck they've never practiced or goldfished (goddamn I hate you so much nadu)>d) a stranger who is a heavy smoker shuffling your deck and when you get it back, half your cards are upside down and dank.
>>94798561That's when you scoop anon. Part of being a good magic player is playing to your outs, and if you have none, you can pack it in out of mutual respect.
What's an actual fun Doragon commander? Doesn't have to be tribal and Niv mizzet is not fun imo
>>94798393>Attack the blue players when they have 7 mana upLiterally what he wants you to do. Good job.
>>94798609works most of the time, but occasionally you get groups where the 2 other players don't realize the game is over and get upset at you for scooping
>>94798599>>a) Someone misplaying on purpose to kingmake someone else.Absolute saltiest I ever got was a white player giving the dimir player an out by preventing combat damage against him after I swung out on him when he had his combo assembled. I was so absolutely flabbergasted I told him it doesn't resolve until he can explain why he just did something so retarded and he just went "well you'll kill me next turn" and then the dimir player used his turn to go infinite and kill us both. The white player insisted this was somehow the right play even tho he had a Boros charm and plenty of creatures to stop me from going sideways at him
>>94798647>>94798563God you guys are bad at magic. If he's rifting in response to you swinging or whatever, he's not doing it in a way that makes you discard down to handsize, and rift is nothing more than a tempo play that leaves them tapped out while other players rebuild their boards.
I really wish my Orc tribal "precon" was here. I accidentally shipped the cards to my parents house and now its chaos as they are receiving like 50 things in the mail.I am considering going to the LGS today for the first time. Its a bit of a drive but not too bad. There might be closer places. Finding a place that has a good commander group is daunting.Im not sure what decks I should bring. Red Death is probably too overtuned to just show up and pubstomp people with. Burakos probably as well is very fine tuned but maybe more "fair" if I take out Opposition Agent. I dont want to run the 4th Doctor deck but it probably is my fairest deck aside from the dragon precon I have
How cringe is it that I don't play to win, but instead just play to become an overwhelming threat that needs to be answered by the table. I don't usually win, but I love making games into a 3 I 2v1 situation and going down swinging.
>>94798678Sure thing bud.
>>94798686I always play to win but I’m satisfied with a game if my deck gets to perform well.It doesn’t seem weird to me at all.
>>94798368>They can just tap one of the many many reasons goad is not good. You're likely either goading things that want to attack anyways or things that can just avoid itYeah but the point is they're not attacking you
Goad is good in EDH. Like with most things, it has diminishing returns. But you can either force an opponent to attack with a dork if they have no way to tap it or force their voltron to not hit you, etc. Having some goad support is not bad.
>>94798691I get it, you dont really play, but a rift with poor timing is much worse than a rift in the endstep before his turn, or to specifically fuck over one guy.
>>94798686I play to make sure everyone else at the table has a worse time

The rest is irrelevant but yes a critical mass of creatures is definitely a wincon. Im curious, what is the blue player winning with after his rift if not combat damage...? >>94799167rift can be used to you know, prevent your massive board from ramming into him, even if he's using combo
I heard you were having a problem with Cyclonic Rift?
>>94799167>yes a critical mass of creatures is definitely a winconNo. A wincon is a specific boardstate with specific conditions. >what is the blue player winning with after his rift if not combat damage...?Any variety of things. He may not win at all. In fact, he may need to remove an enchantment, creature, and artifact that are preventing him from comboing out, and 7cmc in monoblue is a reasonable rate for such utility. He may even be doing it for tempo reasons to prevent people from advancing beyond his capabilities for removal. He might even be trying to fight a problematic card when it needs to be recast but lacks answers for when it's resolved. Dont be daft.

The reason I'm making this point is that if you're at a level of play where these things arent considered, you should not be evaluating a card's suitability for bans.

I cast Bribery, Fury Stormed it, got Sakashima and three other clones, Sakashima was Krark. the guy played a lot of clones, blink and whatever. I ended up hitting his Quasiduplicate and it returned to his hand, so I just reused it over and over to get more Crabominations. It wasn't as bad, so we could somewhat shortcut it, and everyone accepted that the natural end result would be me exiling their decks, hands and bins.
>>94799549R is the best equipment color and U is the best artifact color. Runechanter's Pike is one of the best equipments in the game. Ur has unblockable like crazy. Think on it dude.
>>94799490Probably a spellslinger deck it turns every shitty equipment like this into a mana rock for 1 usually but there are even some 0 cost ones
>>94799573White is the best equipment colour because it often draws cards, has stoneforge mystic, and some extremely powerful white-only equipment, like Godsend. Red is second. There are a million things you can do that buff creatures, and in an equipment decks your priority should be equipment with protection because the initial investment is very large to get it equipped, outside of new very specific cards that recognize this limitation. This is why the swords of x and y are so popular. Same with Kaldra. I just wanted to hear your opinion so I could learn something I may have been overlooking.

>>94799585But that equipment is trash. >>94799847>>94799866I was going to say something like this. If you like your deck so much that you don't want to cut a single card, then you obviously have a good deck list, so write down your deck list. Don't think of yourself as cutting cards from that list, that list is eternal and will always have the same cards on it that it does now. Think of it like you're trying to build a rival-deck to show up the first deck, then you can strip out everything but the frame and rebuild it with the mindset that it's a new deck.

>>94800393Well sure, people discuss deckbuilding on /tg/ and the assumption is that they want to keep adding new cards to make their deck more powerful, but of course you don't have to do that. I'd suggest keeping your old decks and using them against newer players, they'll be using better cards but with bad deckbuilding so it's sort of fair.In any event, having the old deck list written down means you can always go back to it as long as you keep the cards, the newer versions of the deck might not work as well as you think but they also may just be less fun, and if so then that's reason enough to go back to the old list.
>>94801139why did this spike in price? I got mine for nothing but now it's twenty bucks

It's especially good with things like Pitiless Plunderer, Baeloth Barrityl, Species Specialist, sac outlets, or really anything that capitalizes on goad/sacrifice/creature entry/death because you'll get 3 cycles of triggers before you even have to pay the CUpkeep once. I got mine for like 8 bucks and it's been on a steady rise since.
>>94801146It's reserve list
